    Publisher's Summary:
Oliver Stone and the Camel Club return in #1 bestselling author David Baldacci's most stunning adventure yet.
An attack on the heart of power . . .
In sight of the White House . . .
    At a place known as . . .
    Hell's Corner.
John Carr, aka Oliver Stone-once the most skilled assassin his country ever had-stands in Lafayette Park in front of the White House, perhaps for the last time. The president has personally requested that Stone serve his country again on a high-risk, covert mission. Though he's fought for decades to leave his past career behind, Stone has no choice but to say yes.
Then Stone's mission changes drastically before it even begins. It's the night of a state dinner honoring the British prime minister. As he watches the prime minister's motorcade leave the White House that evening, a bomb is detonated in Lafayette Park, an apparent terrorist attack against both leaders. It's in the chaotic aftermath that Stone takes on a new, more urgent assignment: find those responsible for the bombing.
British MI-6 agent Mary Chapman becomes Stone's partner in the search for the unknown attackers. But their opponents are elusive, capable, and increasingly lethal; worst of all, it seems that the park bombing may just have been the opening salvo in their plan. With nowhere else to turn, Stone enlists the help of the only people he knows he can trust: the Camel Club. Yet that may be a big mistake.
In the shadowy worlds of politics and intelligence, there is no one you can really trust. Nothing is really what it seems to be. And Hell's Corner truly lives up to its name. This may be Oliver Stone's and the Camel Club's last stand.

    John Carr at it again
If you are a fan of the Camel Club series, you will not be dissapointed with this book!
    Worst Baldacci ever
I was so disappointed. Story is uneven, unbelievable and characters poorly drawn. The use of multiple voices was very distracting.
    Did someone else write this?
    Riviting
What made the experience of listening to Hell's Corner the most enjoyable?
This is my second David Baldacci book and it was very captivating. The Camel Club is a great group of patriots
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Oliver Stone
What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The voices bring the characters to life with emphasis I probably wouldn't get by just reading it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was sad while at the same time satisfying.
    It's a Twister
Just as you think you have the story figured out, Baldacci inserts another twist. I kept thinking the end was near, then something else would happen. I think this book had more twists than any I have read by him. It was great.
    Dissapointed
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I was dissapointed by this book. I have listened to the first three in the series and really enjoyed them. This book became predictable and programatic. I hope the follow up has more integrity and reintroduces the reader to the esprit de corps of the Camel Club.

    Title: Old Boys
    Author: Charles McCarry
    Narrator: Stefan Rudnicki
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 4 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-20-10
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 48 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
Charles McCarry is considered by many to be the master of world-class spy fiction, garnering praise from peers and critics alike for his riveting novels. Christopher Buckley wrote that McCarry is not only one of the best writers in America but one of the most important. He dazzles, from epigraph to epilogue, and the Los Angeles Times hailed his work as first rate, in the tradition of the best espionage fiction, John Buchan to Eric Ambler and John le Carré.
In this magnificent novel, Charles McCarry returns to the world of his legendary character Paul Christopherthe savvy intelligence agent as skilled at choosing a fine wine as he is at tradecraft, at once sophisticated and dangerous, and no stranger to the world of dirty tricks.
Now Paul Christopher has mysteriously disappeared. Months pass and a memorial service is held for him in Washington. But a group of his retired colleagues - the Old Boys from the Outfit - refuse to believe Christopher is dead. Led by Christophers cousin Horace, the Old Boys embark on a thrilling worldwide search for the master spy and an ancient scroll that may reveal an unspeakably dangerous truth.
Charles McCarry is the author of 10 critically acclaimed novels and nine nonfiction books. He is a former editor at large of National Geographic and has contributed dozens of articles, short stories, and poems to leading national magazines. His op-ed pieces and other essays have appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. For 10 years he served under deep cover as a CIA operations officer.
    Critic Reviews:
Old Boys is like the best parts of ten John le Carré novels all put together. (Time)
Old Boys is, at heart, a lament for a dying generation of American spies, an elegy for the human twilight, Cocoon with a cloak and dagger. (Washington Post)
McCarry's latest is an old-fashioned, rollicking adventure that beats Ludlum and Cussler at their own gameTremendous fun. (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    A great and haunting book
I just read the Old Boys a second time, and it is as fresh as the first time. Great reader, inventive plot, and a sadness that it was not twice as long. A memorable piece of fiction, written by a master.
    Couldn't Finish It
Would you try another book from Charles McCarry and/or Stefan Rudnicki?
I might consider another from this author but Mr Rudnicki's voice overwhems the storyline.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I just erased Old Boys from my Kindle and downloaded Scarecrow by Matthew Reilly.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator's voice distracted me from the plot. I had to go back a few times.
What character would you cut from Old Boys?
    Contrived plot and characterization
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who had not read The Last Supper would enjoy it more than I did.
What could Charles McCarry have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The Last Supper by this author is one of my all-time favorite novels. Although drawn as dramatically original characters, the people were believable and thoroughly engaging. The character of Laurie, the mother, was among the most attractive and interesting. Old Boys, however, took this character beyond the bounds of any reasonableness, and I was thoroughly irritated by her role in Old Boys.

    Very thought provoking and entertaining!
This book takes you behind the scenes into the evil workings of Iran and radical Islamic Terrorist. It helps to bring into focus the reason why terrorist desire to bring the world into complete chaos, and their ultimate purpose to encourage the return of the 12th Imam. The author does a great job of entertaining while educating the reader on the subject at hand.
    Captivating, Provoking, an IPod Turner
I'm biased entering the download. Former missionary in a Muslim country. I get what few "get" in a PC environment about Islam's sense of world order. Also an author with a critical eye for others' works, the kind I wish I had for mine. Ten-hour trip to see the grandkids. We started the story and the trip. Both entwined, along with our personal history...and our fears about the little-known agenda of virtually all Muslim clerics. Potty breaks and meal stops shortened indicate how Rosenberg AND Lane captured us in the story.
OK, to substance. Mostly realistic dialog. Leaps necessary in the half-length version left moments of impractical tracking in realism in the CIA side of the story. Excellent, sometimes surprising, sub-plots with a nice weave together at the end. Knowledge of Koran, Islam, and the miopic focus of many of their followers is thoughtfully, accurately developed. All told, however, this listen would not have been the IPod page-turner without Lane's amazing crew of voices (surely those were not the inflections, tones, voices and genders of one man!). Josephson and Lane have us looking for the sequel in time for the trip home.
    Excellent Listen!
I really enjoyed this version of the book. The narrator was very good and the story line intense. Can't wait to listen to the sequel!
Rosenberg at his best! very informative and and
exciting Need more descriptive detail about charACTERS' CHLOTHING AND COUNTRYSIDE SO READERS CAN VISUALIZE SCENE IN IMAGINATION
    Powerfully intrancing
A story you can't forget or stop thinking about. Lots of questions to explore with book club members.

    Title: Call for the Dead
    Author: John le Carré
    Narrator: Michael Jayston
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 44 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-12-10
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 50 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
An unabridged reading by Michael Jayston of John le Carrés first novel, which introduced his most famous character, George Smiley.
Smiley is one of the most brilliantly realised characters in British fiction. Bespectacled, tubby, eternally middle-aged, and deceptively ordinary, he has a mind like a steel trap and is said to possess the cunning of Satan and the conscience of a virgin.
This novel, set in London in the late 1950s, finds Smiley engaged in the humdrum job of security vetting. But when a Foreign Office civil servant commits suicide after an apparently unproblematic interview, Smiley is baffled. Refusing to believe that Fennan shot himself soon after making a cup of cocoa and asking the exchange to telephone him in the morning, Smiley decides to investigate only to uncover a murderous conspiracy with its roots in his own secret wartime past.
    Members Reviews:
    Well read, good book
Great book and well read. Michael Jayston is a great reader and lends himself to the characters.
Book is interesting and often times dramatic.
    A refreshing change
First venture into the world of George Smiley, good to start at the very inception of his character.
The 4 * is because despite the narrator being amiable there was at times difficulty in distinguishing which character was speaking. You have to really 'listen' intently to the narrative to follow the plot. Perhaps because of the style of narration I found myself rewinding the story quite a bit on numerous occasions. This said, I did enjoy the story and am happily listening to the next installment read by the same chap. I've tuned into him now!
George Smiley - not quite sure what to make of him yet, he reminds me a bit of C J Sansoms Shardlake character; beguiling but with an underlying intrigue, I like him, I hope that he develops as a character throughout the books, that we get to know more about him.
The length of the story is just right, I generally enjoy 20hr plus novels but it has been quite refreshing to partake of this short book.
    Recommended - yes
An easy listen - not necessarily and certainly not for when you are tired.
    Engrossing from beginning to end
Meeting George Smiley again after a number of years is like running into a dear old friend. A friend who you take at face value with all his foibles because time has taught you he will not let you down. Le Carre draws you into the tale from the very beginning and then there's no stopping .
A book that launched a career
This 1961 novel was Le Carres first. It was an instant success and introduced the literary world to George Smiley. It contrasted starkly with the action packed, ruthless, gun totting macho heroes found in James Bond stories. Instead, it portrayed spies as bureaucratic types with academic rather than physical prowess. Smileys world is often mundane, even boring, but also peppered with flashes of inspiration and luck. Similarly, his colleagues are not drawn from an elite SAS team, but seem to have all the normal foibles of normal people. If Flemings Bond was a hare then LeCarres counterpart of Smiley was definitely a tortoise.
On the face of it, Le Carres first book does not sound as if it would compete with well established best-selling Ian Fleming and that is the point, it doesnt. In spite of both authors writing about secret agents they are from very different stables. What Le Carre does is to provide an insight into a different kind of spy from Bond.

    Publisher's Summary:
In House Rules, two foiled terrorist attacks and a law targeting Muslim Americans send Joe DeMarco on a dangerous mission among mobsters, meth dealers, and the Washington political elite.
First there was the bomb meant for the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel; then a private plane headed straight for the White House is shot down. An atmosphere of fear and panic overruns the country, and when a senator proposes to run extensive background checks on all Muslims and deport any who arent citizens, his bill gains surprising traction.
    Critic Reviews:
Full of insider information, this novel reinforces Lawson's place in the upper rank of Washington thriller specialists. (Publishers Weekly)
Lawson fleshes out his characters while developing a plausible and increasingly tense plot. Just enough uncertainty in the satisfying conclusion hints that another series entry is likely. Highly recommended. (Library Journal)
A pleasantly relaxed thriller well suited to leftish political junkies. (Kirkus Reviews)

    Terrorist's from US and non-US
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The time spent listening to this book was an okay listen. The narrator did not do a very good job as far as my evaluation. The narration seemed to slow down the book. I had a difficult time listening to the book but I did finish. It's the third book in the Joe DeMarco Thriller series and I had listened to the first two. Therefore, I wanted to continue listening to the series in the order established.
If youve listened to books by Mike Lawson before, how does this one compare?
Yes, I have listened to books by Mike Lawson before. I read the previous two books in the series. Scott Brick was the narrator for those books and Joe Barrett narrated the third book. I would have enjoyed the book more if the narrator had stayed the same. However, the fast pace, action and excitement in House Rules was not evident as it was in the previous two books. The story didn't contain enough suspense for me.
What didnt you like about Joe Barretts performance?
Joe Barrett's performance was not good. His interpretation of the character's did not provide a voice that was character appropriate. He attempted to provide different accents for the character's. However, these accents were not consistent. Joe Barrett did not make his narration exciting. Thus, the story as narrated by Joe Barrett was dull. His interpretation of a female voice was lacking. Overall, my theory is that if Scott Brick had narrated this book, I would have given the book a better rating.
Could you see House Rules being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No, I don't think House Rules should be made into a movie or a TV series.
    Any additional comments?
The remainder of the books in the series are narrated by Joe Barrett. I will try the fourth book but I'm not going to put it as the next book I purchase. Maybe the narrator will improve with the next book, I surely hope so. I do agree with the author that terrorism is a fact in the world of today. I have read various books concerning terrorism and maybe that has slanted my view on the quality of this book. There was no text in the book that emulated any necessary research. Terrorism is as terrorism is, was what I took away from reading this book. I am not being fair and I don't judge the author.

"Christopher Reich is the master of the espionage thriller for the 21st century." (Clive Cussler)
    Members Reviews:
A Great Series...Can't wait for the next one
These comments are intended to encompass all three of the books in the series (of which this is the third). Dr. Ransom and his wife Emma have contributed to my walking regime and have turned me into a long distance freak as I cant shut off the iPod when I am into their exciting narratives. I tend to really "get into" a book, if it is riveting. Any one of the three in this series so far qualify as very riveting. Others have described this as the "driveway effect," for me it is the "walk an additional mile" effect. The narration is appropriate and contributes to the enjoyment. I would recommend starting with the first book "Rules of Deception" and working through the three in order....then wait impatiently for number four to appear...(Please hurry Mr. Reich).
    3 for 3 for Reich
Reich returns with another fine effort. His character of Ransom, a surgeon with a less than perfect past, continues to remain fresh. The plot is well developed and Reich has taken his time bringing his protagonist along from aid doc to spy. The story is well paced and carries the listener along quite pleasantly. As far as espionage goes, this is meat and potatoes fare. Reich should plan on resolving the relationship between Jonathan and Emma soon or the dynamic will get stale.
    Good book.
I love the book. Paul Michael has to be the best narrator I know. I do alot of driving. His characters just bring the book to life. It's hard to let go, it seems I just get sucked in.
    Kept my interest
This is the second book I've read by this author, and I look forward to the next one. Kept my interest and the plot was good. Didn't dwell too long on any one point, as many novels do. Pacing was just right.
    Entertaining
Christopher Reich again turns in an exciting, intelligent thriller. The Emma/Jonathon storyline continues to develop, and hopefully the author won't run that too thin in future editions. An entertaining read.

"Ferguson and Dillon function much like Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin: Ferguson is the at-home brain...a la Wolfe, and Dillon is a violent, coldhearted version of Archie. Smiley is a supporting character in this one, but no matter. Simon Russell Beale is still terrific as Smiley and so is Ian McDarwid as LeClerc. It's a great story of probable Circus stitch up of moldering Whitehall agency, exploiting a Polish emigre hero from WWII in the process.

When Bourne is ambushed and badly wounded, he fakes his death and goes into hiding. In safety, he takes on a new identity, and begins a mission to find out who tried to assassinate him.
Jason begins to question who he really is, how much of him is tied up in the Bourne identity, and what he would become if that was suddenly taken away from him.
Meanwhile, an American passenger airliner is shot down over Egypt by what seems to be an Iranian missile. A massive global investigative team is assembled to get at the truth of the situation before it can all escalate into an international scandal. Jason Bourne's search for the man who shot him intersects with the search for the people or the group that brought down the airliner, which leads Bourne into one of the most deadly and challenging situations in his entire life.
With the threat of a new world war brewing, Bourne finds himself in a race against time to uncover the truth and find the person behind his assault, all the while being stalked by his unknown nemesis.

I bought "The Bourne Betrayal' without realizing it was written by Eric Lustbader. When I did realize it, I was so disappointed because I couldn't imagine a "new" writer doing the series justice. It took me YEARS to finally read it. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! Upon finishing it, I immediately went to the Kindle store and bought all of the books between Ludlum's last and "The Bourne Betrayal". I've enjoyed every one. My only complaint is the author's repeated use of "d'you" no matter the nationality of the character speaking. I find it very distracting if the character is anything other than American and it kind of throws me out of the story while I go back to see who was speaking.
    Great story, lots of action
They found a great person to fulfill Roberts outlines and stories and he does a fantastic job to keep you wanting to finish it. Great writer and highly recommend
    Ho Hum
If you like fantastic or too fantastic, then read on. Consistancy of character is lost as Jason Bourne and the supporting cast lose their identities established by Ludlum. Whilst reading I sensed that I had to familiarise myself with a new set of characters, who are behaving out of 'character'. Past loyalties are conveniently forgotten and some of the historic links are tenuous. Eric should have just created a new 'hero', who unlike the original Jason, gets beaten to a pulp in most encounters and somehow manages to fend off evil with a quick box to the ears. Ludlum erred on the side of realism - von Luststraberbaderem wants us to take many leaps of faith in one chapter. 3 stars because contemporary conflicts are woven into the backdrop - else two stars would be a bonus. A potentially good yarn spoilt by pandering to a potential Hollywood script.
    Five Stars
