    Publisher's Summary:
Parallel universes sometimes collide and overlap to share a tiny sliver of space called a mixing zone. Anyone or anything caught in a mixing zone has about a 50-50 chance of remaining in their original location when the universes pull apart. Most beings throughout the universes are aware of this occasional phenomenon, but people on Earth - not so much.
Certainly not Mark and Blackie. Mark and Blackie are brothers, and Wayne is Mark's best friend and the bass player in their band. Buster, the lead singer, signed them to a gig at a small establishment on Hell-Otis Highway and they thought getting paid to play would be the highlight of their day. It should have been. But when they rushed to load the Nomad after their gig, they didn't have any idea the green tinted light bathing them in the parking lot was more than just an impending hail storm.
That little sliver of tinted space changed everything. When the overlapping universes pulled apart, the green tinted light disappeared, and so did Mark, Blackie, Wayne, Amelia, and a 1957 Nomad station wagon full of music equipment. There was no more bar (including Buster), no more Hell-Otis highway or parking lot. Celestial context put them smack dab in the middle of a high plain on Alphus Nebulum.
You might think this had to be the highlight of their week. Maybe not. They had no idea they would soon be arrested, jailed, become escapees, meet some of the most interesting beings in all the galaxies, have soldiers point very large guns at them and miraculously escape. And that was just day one and two. Wayne expressed an uncomfortable feeling that things were going to get weird - bass players are sometimes remarkably clairvoyant - although weird might have been a bit of an understatement.

Pure Sci-Fi Adventure With Jumps To Parallel Universes and Imaginative Characters
This review is on Jump Starting the Universe by John David Buchanan. This is the first book I have read by this author.
This story had me jumping all over the universe before I even understood what âbudgingâ means. Of course, budging refers to parallel planes of existence that tend to âbudgeâ up against each other and allow one to crossover to another parallel universe. This happens all the time and most people donât even see it.
The characters in this story find out firsthand what happens when parallel planes of existence crossover and they get caught inside the two planes. The main characters, Mark, Blackie and Wayne, are all members of a band on their way to their first paid gig in a 1957 Chevy Nomad station wagon where the final member of the band, Buster, is waiting for them.
The band plays to a small crowd in the bar and they meet another character named Amelia who decides to help the band pack away their musical instruments in the parking lot. Then it happens. Storm clouds appear that look different than normal, mostly greenish in color, and the budge occurs. Everyone except Buster is instantly transported to the other side of the parallel planes. They are no longer on Earth, or Terra Bulga as Earth is known by everyone else in the universe. The group is now in Alphus Nebulum 42.689 light years away. How do they know this? Because the stars are wrong as Amelia points out and she is correct.
This is where the story takes an imaginative leap in plot twists, back stories and creative license.

    Amazing sci-fi adventure!
Would you listen to The Last Marine in the Galaxy again? Why?
I loved the story line of the humans and the aliens coming together. it is something that finally does not have a negative view on all extraterrestrial beings! The narration made the story easy to follow and engaging. Would highly recommend to any sci-fi fans!!!
    worst narration ever
I love military scifi... but undifferentiated monotone narration made it impossible to follow the story.

    Five star read!!!
This is a fast paced book that you will have trouble putting down, at least I know that I did. The concept for the book is excellent. The characters were well developed and very likable. The narration was nearly perfect. I can not say enough good things about this book! Just buy and read it you will not be sorry. I was provided this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review
    Good if a bit rough
I did really enjoy this book, but the writing felt a bit rough to me. The character development was good though. I liked the characters a lot. They story was quite unique but I was completely baffled as to where the author was going with the story, and the end felt a tad rushed. All that aside I did enjoy this book.
The narrator gave a wonderful performance.
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
    Chilling Concept
Would you consider the audio edition of Days' End to be better than the print version?
I think I might have enjoyed this book better in print only because it would have drawn out the suspense for me.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked the mother giving birth. I felt empathy for her.
    Any additional comments?
This book was gifted to me by the author with the understanding that I post an honest and unbiased review.
    Days End

    3.5 stars
While the story is creative and entertaining it took me a long time to get into it. The story grabs you from the start with "This was to be his last day on earth". Then basically slows down and slowly builds back up again. The story switches back and forth in the beginning in a confusing/choppy kind of way, because your not sure what is going on or who the players are. Which works great in many stories but just felt off for me in this story. Once the story gets going though it is a very entertaining, interesting, engaging and enjoyable listen. Plenty of twists and turns to keep the story moving.
The story has a little bit of everything romance, mystery, religion, politics, science and more.
A little less detail in some areas would have been better.
Kevin Gallagher does a good job with the narration. This is the first time I have heard him narrate a book. Pleasant voice, smooth even pace and clearly spoken. Really good character voices.

Day by day The Fever grew stronger, surging across boundaries in its relentless assault on humanity. The news pouring out across the airwaves turned more shocking by the hour. Hospitals had started closing their doors. The dead and dying littered the landscape.
The tiny group stranded on Portsmouth Island listened as the horror unfolded. They had nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide. The struggle to survive had taken on a new meaning. The Fever promised an eventual death. Something else had come to The Island though, something wicked and hungry.
As if life wasn't complicated enough, a stranger arrived in an odd little boat and brought with him both hope and fear. No one knew the man was sick. No one knew he had a fever.
To save him, William Hill would have to violate the travel ban. To save himself, he would have to face down an indescribable evil.

A good fantasy-ish read with good roots in reality!
This review is for all 5 parts to the story. I really enjoyed how the story flowed. About the only thing I didn't care for was how exaggerated the part was about the cop that pulls him over. Unless he shows up in The Rock and has a major role, there was too much time spent on that arc of the story in my opinion. Now the rest of the story however, is a great read. I really enjoyed how real the story was. A good example is when he tells about the shotgun only holding 3 rounds because there was a plug in it to reduce magazine capacity. Granted, most tactical versions (at least in my state) don't come with them, but it is a realistic aspect that I really appreciate because all too often you have the heroes that never run out of ammo, and that really annoys me as a true second amendment enthusiast. I really related to the character as well because my step dad is a tinkerer, not to the extreme that Wil-ee-ums dad is, but I too learned from a young age to tinker, do projects, and put together random things to create something useful. I'm eagerly awaiting The Rock. On the author's website, he mentions that he's working with an agent or getting an agent so who knows when the next installment will be available....and I'm hoping it won't have some crazy price because I'm really put off by expensive ebooks, as you can't share with friends, sell or trade them after you read them...but that's off topic. Read all 5 installments of The Island, they are well worth the $1.98 you pay for the last 2 parts.
Hand in there it is a good read
To this point I have really enjoyed this opening series. This descriptions of the island and events are very detailed, if not, according to the author accurate, characters are interesting. The main character is sort of an anti-hero who responds well to being put in a hot spot. The community and environment feels almost familiar as you move thru the books. The action when it comes is fast and at times fairly gruesome but somehow fiiting with the overall mystery which itself peaks the readers interest. Definitely worth a read.
The Island - Part 3 by Michael Stark
It only gets better and better. I keep wondering how this breath taking Monet of words are going to play out in the end. Hmmm, I wonder yet know I can't even fathom how Stark is going to finish this literary work of art.

Four people uncover a secret that has the power to shake the foundation of faith as we know it.
Reverend Joshua Barker feels that it is his duty to bring the Word to the oppressed beings on alien worlds, to teach them to repent their sins and cherish the teachings of the Good Book. It's a noble ambition...until he discovers something that challenges his understanding of everything he believes.
Barker's heretical discovery is buried for centuries, until Anita Inkle digs it up and rekindles her sense of hope. Thomas, her husband, will grasp at any straw if it will save his dying wife, even a straw that may have unseen consequences affecting not merely Anita, but every member of the race.
It remains for Gar Matthews, a professional iconoclast, a man with a mission to poke holes in every outrageous claim and story that comes his way, to uncover a truth that no one ever suspected, and to give a very special meaning to it.
Each of the four will be forever affected by the secret - as will every sentient being in the galaxy.

"Nobody spins a yarn better than Mike Resnick." (Orson Scott Card, New York Times best-selling author of Enders Game)
    Members Reviews:
An Excellent Additional to the Birthright Series
This is another of the smaller novels Resnick has written of late, fleshing out some aspect of his "Birthright" universe.
This book tells three interrelated and evolving tales regarding the discovery of a very Christ-like figure on an alien world. The reverend who discovers this is at first very skeptical and then very intrigued...could it be that there's more to Christianity than there seems to be?
The second story picks up a few hundred years after the first, as the information uncovered by the reverend finally reaches the more civilized worlds. There a producer looking for information for a TV special on religion stumbles over this data, and almost immediately seems to be the subject of a conspiracy to suppress his finds -- or worse.
The third story seems to pick up not too long after the second, where the information of this strange Christ-like figure found on multiple worlds comes to the attention of a modern day radio/internet jockey. He is VERY intrigued to discover that this seems to be on many worlds, and takes a private ship out to investigate.
I really enjoyed this book, though not as much as the longer Michael Resnick books. The idea is similar to the one he explored in his novel "Dark Lady", and I suspect over time we'll see him explore other similar aspects of Mankind's beliefs. Oddly this book seems to be part of some series called "The Stellar Guild", though it seems fairly standalone and the others certainly aren't necessary to understand or enjoy this one. I don't know if I'll pick up the others or not.
HIGHLY recommended for any fan of Resnick or somebody who likes a little "different" take on a science fiction novel.
    INCI
This book is part of a series co-authored by published writers mentoring unpublished authors. In this case, the known author wrote the second part of the book, which was predictable and not nearly as good as the beginning written by his mentoree. She should have done the whole job, herself. It would have been a better book.
Both a fun and interesting read!
Given the authors, the quality of the plot/story line is quite good.

A great cyber-thriller some of the personal and societal impacts of the implants, how implants could help people with serious injuries and how they grow to cope with it - and the drama of one's past coming back to haunt them. Good narration.
    Human and Cyberpunk Themes
What made the experience of listening to Dangerous Metal the most enjoyable?
The story and the Narrator were both compelling.
What did you like best about this story?
It deals with Cyberpunk themes, and Eva move to self empowerment through technology and people. It is not my usual read, but is was very enjoyable.
    Awesomeness of awesome
This is one of my favorite stories ever. It's enthralling and you never know what's coming. I want a second book it was that good :)
A great cyberthriller from a new athor
If you could sum up Dangerous Metal in three words, what would they be?
    Cyberpunk, Thriller, Dramatic
What did you like best about this story?
It's a great modern cyberthriller that gives focus on how the new technology has a direct personal impact on the protagonist, and how it doesn't define her, but lets her define who she is.
What does Mariah Avix bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The narration is excellent and very easy to listen to. Mariah has a fantastic voice for audiobooks
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The story can be a roller coaster and make you gasp at the antagonist's actions and gall. A great look at how someone handles their implants and continues to integrate back with her life.
    Any additional comments?
    LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!
    Dangerous indeed!
I got this book in exchange for an honest opinion, and it didn't disappoint. It's not my usual kind of sci if, but it is Cyberpunk and very interesting. The world building and character depth is great.
The technology in here was really well thought out. I enjoyed the explanations and the journey that happens for the MC.
Earnie, what a horrid, horrid man. Had my skin crawling. There were so many nice twists and turns within this story that it kept me guessing. I really could identify with Eva. She's an amazing character.
I enjoyed the narration, although I have to admit it seemed to be read a little on the slow side. I wasn't sure if it was just me, but it's obviously the natural cadence of the narrator who is actually the author too. Wow, wish I could narrate my own work, extra kudos for trying. The voice is nice to listen to and the production is good. I did want the ending to be a little more satisfying, but I'm thinking there might be more from this world, so the odd question I can cope with not getting a resolution.
In all this is a great story and narration, well worth checking out. And I'll be looking for more stories from Mariah :)

An intense story, that's worth your time
you could really picture the character and it had me entertained all the way to the end.
    Heart breaking and Humble
What I really like about this book is that McFadden knows the story she wants to tell. The dialect has a really immersive effect, and the story and world and characters and revealed in a slow, compelling snowball that crashes to a heart wrenching ending. Props to the narrator for nailing the protagonists voice perfectly.

Ed is an amazingly talented author
This book is a refreshing read, or in my case, listen. the concept and plot are really unique, and I enjoyed every minute of the book. There is none of the dreaded word fluff, every single word was needed, precise tight writing and extremely easy to get pulled in, I could not turn off the book, and listened until 230 am. just a wonderful nook, grab it!
    I really enjoyed it.
I am obligated to say I received this book in exchange for an unbiased review, that being said; I really enjoyed the story. while it was a bit disjointed at times, and an occasional rapid point of view change can be disorienting. Overall it was a very well developed story.
    Prometheus Stumbles. Gosney does not.
    Any additional comments?
I like books with a lot of depth... books that make you think and get a little better if you come around for a second pass. I'm willing to be patient with an author if I feel like they're going to deliver in the end. This book started a little slow for me, but Ed Gosney delivered in the end. This is the story of a man who is forced into a difficult situation... a man that has to do things he doesn't want to do in order to protect his family. I tend not to read a lot of scifi, but this one has just enough psychological Dreamworld elements to keep me interested. And the characters are the strongest part. Give it a try, and be patient if it seems to start a little slow. It's worth it.
    It has some interesting parts
The premise is intriguing , but the telling of the story is drawn out, confusing, and illogical at times. It is also a bit "religious" at times for my taste. The narration is fairly monotone with no pauses when the narrator/perspective changes. This makes the story even harder to follow as you jump unexpectedly between 5-7 different story lines. Although parts of the story are quite interesting and original, I'm not sure this one was worth the large amount of time it took to read it.

Mars Journey: Call to Action, Book 1 is the first novella in best-selling author Bill Hargenrader's epic science fiction action and adventure thriller series set in the near future.
The Mars Journey series delves into the science, technology, drive, and determination of the human spirit to come together to overcome our greatest challenges, explore space, and become the first martians to colonize the Red Planet.
    Members Reviews:
    The Journey to Mars begins
An absolutely excellent book about about the journey to Mars, which of course begins on Earth. We are introduced to characters that are smart and dedicated and not afraid to dream, but must overcome obstacles including government agencies and shadowy characters. This book is an insanely quick read as there is no fat in at all. You will be ordering the next book when you reach the end of this one.
    Survival or progress
The spirit of competition, even with yourself, is a powerful motivator. However, in a team, overcoming the initial enertia is quite a devil before building up momentum. When dealing with the human species the notion of motivation of such is daunting indeed.
It is on this level that the Mars Journey: Call to Action operates in the vision of Bill Hargenrader.
It generates a sense of awe and enthusiasm in me when considering the challenges posed by this author by mouth of Brent, a astronaut who drifted rudderless after the death of his wife...that is until he realised what is really at stake.
The drama is real, the characters crystallizing into larger than life figures. There is that indefinable sense of looming personality clashes and major confrontations as already suspense and excitement builds into what promises to be a a big series indeed.
Wow! Bring it on. I'll be there!
    The Start of Something Good
Most science fiction fans will find that the beginning of this tale is an exercise in preaching to the choir, albeit a necessary sermon for winning the hearts and minds of folks less inclined to favor space travel. But after addressing the practical economic and political objections to mounting a Mars mission, it quickly advances to a rollicking plot involving international intrigue and shadow government conspiracies. At the center of the story is a broken and dispirited man with an unconventionally brilliant mind, sort of a Sherlock Holmes-style character whose vice of choice is alcohol rather than cocaine (although that makes perfect sense in light of the fact that he is fighting deep soul-crushing depression instead of mere intellectual boredom). The enticing cliffhanger ending of Book 1 makes it a sure bet I'll be reading Book 2, Book 3, and wherever else the story leads!
Finally, where space science fiction really begins or is it really fiction?
Hargenrader has set the stage for a great sci-fi series with Mars Journey: Call to Action. His main character, Brent, is about as real as they come. A hard charging astronaut that could be one of many that have served our country with NASA. His character development has been outstanding with Brent leading the rescue to the space station, then losing his beloved wife to a mysterious auto accident.
