    Title: Now and Forever
Subtitle: Somewhere a Band Is Playing & Leviathan '99
    Author: Ray Bradbury
    Narrator: Paul Hecht

    Publisher's Summary:
A journalist bearing terrible news leaps from a still-moving train into a small town of wonderful, impossible secrets....
The doomed crew of a starship follows their blind, mad captain on a quest into deepest space to joust with destiny, eternity, and God himself....
Now and Forever is a bold new work from an incomparable artist whose stories have reshaped America's literary landscape. Two bewitching novellas - each distinctly different yet uniquely Bradbury - demonstrate the breathtaking range of his undimmed talent and the irrepressible vitality of the mind, spirit, and heart of America's preeminent storyteller.

    Superb Bradbury
Ray Bradburyâs Now and Forever contains two novellas: Somewhere a Band is Playing and Leviathan â99.
Somewhere a Band is Playing is about a writer finding himself in a small town in the Arizona desert. Almost nobody has died in over 100 years, but all remain youthful. Reading this story is like caressing velvet: it is soft and compelling. Bradbury at his best.
Leviathan â99 is Herman Melvilleâs Moby Dick transferred to outer space. The Leviathan is a massive comet that may collide with Earth and the rocket ship captain, years previously blinded by the comet, is determined to prevent the occurrence even if it kills him and all his crew. The storyâs interest is peaked with the knowledge that Bradbury wrote the screen play for the 1956 movie Moby Dick starting Gregory Peck. An excellent adaptation of a classic to another time and place.
You can't go wrong with Bradbury!
Bradbury is always a joy to read. He paints pictures with his words, and is always very cleverly didactic. Keeps you so busy with his left hand (plot, characters, story development) that you don't see what he's doing with his right, until the very end, when the moral instruction becomes clear. So unlike Classic Star Trek episodes, where the moral instruction is rudely obvious and in your face.
    Bradbury's Magic at Work
I love Ray Bradbury. Without hesitation I can say he's my favorite author. And stories like "Somewhere A Band Is Playing" and "Leviathan '99" are the reason why. While Ray's particular brand of flowing, poetical prose can be a little ham handed at times, its often beautiful and part of the magic of reading his tales. I definitely recommend this novel to Bradbury fans and fans of fantasy and science fiction.
    Breath of fresh, relaxing Air...
I bought this primarily for my wife because she was whining that she really liked the Air Supply song "The Great Pioneer" and hadn't been able to find the CD that is was on for many years. I did a quick search and after almost buying the wrong album, stumbled on this 2-CD combo of Now and Forever and Air Supply. Turns out the song she wanted was on the Air Supply album and not Now and Forever as she thought, but no matter.
Once we received the set and threw it into our CD transport, we were simply taken aback at how awesome the songs sounded. Yes, not all of the songs were necessarily big hits, but nearly all of them were at least pleasant and we were very impressed by the sound quality overall. I still don't know if the digital remastering is primarily responsible for this result, but compared to our 1990s vintage greatest hits CD there was no comparison.

    Publisher's Summary:
When the posthuman Next suddenly reappear in a solar system that banished them, humans are threatened. Their reactions vary from disgust and anger to yearning to live forever like the powerful Next, who are casually building a new city out of starships in the heart of the rewilded planet Lym. The first families of Lym must deal with invasion while they grapple with their own inner fears.
Ranger Charlie Windar is desperate to save his beloved planet. The Next are building strange cities he never imagined, and other humans who want to destroy the Next are his worst enemies.
Ambassador Nona Hall strives to forge links between the powerful station she's from, the Diamond Deep, and the people of Lym. The formidable merchant Gunnar Ellensson appears to be up to no good, and as usual his motivations are suspect. Why is he sending ships to Lym, and what does he intend to do with them when he arrives?
The Shining Revolution threatens to undo everything by attacking the Next on Lym, and their desire to eradicate the posthumans is greater than their desire to save humanity's home. It is entirely possible that they will draw the wrath of the Next onto all of humanity.
In the meantime the Next's motives remain inscrutable. Why are they here at all? What do they want? Why are they interested in the ancient past of a planet that has been ravaged and rebuilt at least once?

    A good wrap up
I found this series by accident , and am glad for it. A lot of cool ideas and perspectives are thrown your way without a lot of handholding or definitive answers.
Fun Read, An interesting idea to explore
Fun Read, An interesting idea to explore. I will be looking for other books from Brenda Cooper. This makes reference to folks in her earlier stories which I will be looking for.
    A Book to Remember
Actually, all four books in the series presented an incredible view of a possible near future that kept my interest.
    Very compelling
Cooper likes to keep humanity in here science fiction along with interesting ideas.
Cooper misses the mark with "Spear of Light"
Brenda Cooper has had her ups and downs in her eight-novel career, and sadly âSpear of Lightâ (Pyr, 400 pages, $18) falls short of her best. âSpear of Lightâ is set in the same time and universe as her three previous novels, which concern humans and transhumans (advanced artificial intelligences (robots) that began as human beings) in a galactic setting.
The Next, as the transhumans are known, are seen as a threat to human beings by many, while at the same time, many humans volunteer for the painful and sometimes fatal process of becoming Next. Thereâs political intrigue, violence, romance and after four novels, a carefully developed society, but âSpear of Lightâ (which may be the end of The Glittering Edge series, but may not) just doesnât click. Thereâs a major reveal at the end which comes pretty much out of nowhere, solving a puzzle that seemed secondary to the main themes, but otherwise the book simply ends rather than concludes.
All in all, the four novels based in this society are all over the map. For example, one is a thinly disguised version of Eva Peronâs life which has little to do with the themes explored in âThe Edge of Darkâ and âSpear of Light,â which are a long way from âDiamond Deep,â the first book.

    a fresh view
As a voracious reader of apocalyptic prose, I found Spared a new and exciting view of the inevitable! Most of my time reading was seemingly on the edge of my chair, awaiting new and terrifying events! I especially enjoyed the "fleshing out" of each character, each with his or her individual story, as well as their story as part of the whole. An excellent read!
    At first wasn't sure
At first wasn't sure about the book but the more I got into it I could not put it down now on to book 2
    Boring
Couldn't finish it. Too boring. Hard to keep a couple of the characters straight. It was just not exciting enough.
    A must read!
Awesome read! I enjoyed this story immensely. Loved getting to know the characters. Love love love.

The beginning of a good series
This is a good action, adventure sci-fi story. You can relate to the characters. The characters are well developed. The story moves along at a good pace. Although it is not stated, it appears that this is just the beginning of a good series. I will definitely buy the next book when it comes out.

    Title: Murder in "Utopia"
    Author: Bryan Perkins

    Language: English
    Release date: 04-18-16
    Publisher: Onyxis Stone Press
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 9 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
For this novella, my main goal was to produce a work that was at the same time absurdist and decidedly literary. I think I've succeeded in both aspects.
The story takes place almost entirely inside a priest's confessional office. Chapters alternate between a psychiatrist giving her confessions to the priest and the confessions of the very patients mentioned by the psychiatrist in her sessions. Every sentence that is written in the past tense is spoken aloud to the priest or by her, and every sentence that is written in the present tense is one of the priest's thoughts or an action she experiences.
I think you can see why Murder in "Utopia" may be a confusing experience the first time through. There are no quotation marks to set off dialogue; the tense of the writing changes based on whether the words are spoken or experienced; and, to top it all off, no names are mentioned for any of the characters - each is referred to only by his or her occupation or the pronouns her, she, etc.
But fear not, dear listeners. Continue on despite any confusion. Confusion is part of the experience. And by the end, I think you may realize that you've found more clarity than you thought possible in such a jumbled, messy "utopia".

    Twisted and captivating
Love the presentation of psychiatrist and confessional as well as the links between the tales. Enjoyable with a few good twists. The future police reminded me a bit of demolition man cops but with guns. Will look for more by this author and narrator. I received this book from the author narrator or publisher for free via audiobookboom in exchange for an unbiased review.
    Wow
HOLY CRAP this was such a confusing, weird, and interesting short story. Im not even sure how I can explain it without sounding like jsoiudriefjiweohfafjsdoifjsi. When I thought I knew what was going on that changed and I was left perplexed once again.
Bryan Perkins told a tale of a priest and psychiatrist telling each other about the stories that each of them heard from their clients. The first part of this story I was completely confusing and I really had no idea what was going on. By the last half I understood what was happening, but then the very end gave a twist and left me saying WTF.
Julie Hoverson was an excellent choice for this story. The pacing was fast and her voice was clear. She brought this story to life.
Everyone was living in Utopia and by the sounds of it they were not all that happy. People were committing murder all around. In the end this was an okay story. I think it might go on the list to rereadhoping that the second time around I might understand more.
This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
    What an excellent surprise.
I had never heard of this author and knew only that it was written in an unusual style and that the story takes place in a post-capitalist world where automation had pretty much freed everyone up from work, and that the author is a socialist. Compelling, but I didn't know what to expect. Getting used to the style took some effort, but it was well worth it and the unusual writing style is not gratuitous or indulgent.

    Great listen
Very engaging story and I did not read book one but was able to jump in the story and know it was not necessary but a great benefit to the story. I will read book one:
    Found
Jumping right back into the midst of this chaotic tale, Simone Pond does well to welcome a new character: Grace, the daughter to Ava and Joseph as a young adult. In this story, she is the main character and is the perfect combo of her parents with her independent nature like her mother and her leadership qualities like her father. Her upbringing and personality help her find herself in the midst of saving her mother and discovering the terror hidden in the mainframe.
The story was not as detailed and jumped from scene to scene a bit to quickly for my taste. I enjoy Pond's imagination and wanted to live in the story longer.
Returning narrator, Sarah Zimmerman, does well to keep this story at a steady pace and keeps the listener engaged with her easy going voice.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and am happy this is not the end to the series. I look forward to listening to the next book in this saga.
This audiobook was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
A teen trying to break free of her parents
What did you like best about this story?
The world has changed for the better, but there is still a feel of separation between the Insiders and the Outsiders. It's been said it'll take a few generations before the divide is completely washed away. The world is building on the outside of the city as well as in the city with the walls gone. We get to see this through Grace as she has big plans for herself at the Academy, in Silicon Valley.
We see Silicon Valley with the creation of the world now. It's a blend of old world before Repatterning and new with the technology. When Grace goes on a tour, we get a history of the Repatterning and what happened in the first book along with prequel. Also giving us a view of the city. We even learn of a forgotten city center, Emerald Mountain (which I believe is what is depicted on the cover). When Grace learns of the old city center, she becomes curious of it. Wanting to know if there are people inside, and saving them. But the city is protected by the natives there.
We get to meet a potential love interest for Grace early in the book. Lucas seems so sweet and a great balance for her. We see a few friends, and not so close friends, of Grace as she goes to the Academy and then on her mission to save her mother.
Which character as performed by Sarah Zimmerman was your favorite?
Sarah returns to voice the second book in this series. I like listening to her voice.

    Progeny
What was one of the most memorable moments of Progeny?
I listened to the audiobook and at at first it seemed like the narrator was very monotone. Then as the story went on I realized that the characters were supposed to sound monotone and speak very technically because they were robots. Once I came to this realization the story became much more interesting.
    Excellent short!
Very cool short story about machines discovering their origins of being created by an organic life form that had to flee their planet. I'm hoping the author has more to come in this series!
    How to shock an AI
The 4 laws of conformity have maintained a functional society for generations: 1) Continue making units; 2) Protect all units already made; 3) Expand the knowledge base; and 4) Maintain variation in thought. Helen strives to follow the last 2 laws in her scientific studies.
I quite enjoyed this tale of non-organic beings and their well-organized society. Helen and Lorenzo often join Eve and Roberto for dinner and discussion. Helen is a bit fascinated by the local DNA-based life forms, but the topic is considered a bit gauche. Nevertheless, Helen and her lab assistants (Ivan and Lorraine) want to continue their observations.
What Helen and her assistants discover is rather disturbing to not only herself, but to her society. It was pretty cool how the author had the main character discovering this long-forgotten truth and how her immediate friends and colleagues react. Its akin to when humans started accepting that the Sun, and not Earth, was the center of the solar system. Ive read Perreaults SIMPOC books, but this is my favorite of his works so far. Definitely some food for thought there. What if a society developed so far and forgot their origins, only to discover them later?
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author at no cost in exchange for an honest review.
Narration: Christopher M. Allport did a good job narrating this book. His female voices were believable and his story-telling style was straight forward, letting me sink into the tale without being hung up on vocal theatrics.
    Sci fi in pure form
If you want action, this book isn't for you. Fast paced, not for you. If you want an old school pure science sci fi take, then this is for you. The narrator did well, the story was well written but just not for me. I received this audiobook from the author narrator or publisher for free via audiobookblast in exchange for an unbiased review
    Outstanding!
Where does Progeny rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    One of the best.
What other book might you compare Progeny to and why?
    Interstellar
Have you listened to any of Christopher M. Allports other performances before? How does this one compare?
    Excellent.

    Horrific editing!!!
    Any additional comments?
I'm only a couple of hours into this book and am greatly enjoying it. EXCEPT that the editor has done a horrific job. As with a few other books on Audible, there is NO pause between scenes. You have to listen extremely carefully and not let your attention flag for a nano-second, else you miss that you're in a new scene and ... things suddenly don't make sense. I REALLY wish Audible would stop promoting books with this editing style. Don't know if I'll finish the book or return it.
That said, everything else about this listen is a definite four stars, and I may upgrade to five after finishing -- if I can get past the editing snafu.
Hey, Audible staff, are you listening??????
Please note that my three-stars for performance are related to the editing. I find the narrator most enjoyable; does a very nice job.
    Simple but effective.
The plot line is classic and the authors writing is moderate. There are no unseen events, however, entertaining nonetheless.
The narrator fits the characters and environment.

    Publisher's Summary:
The final novel in the exciting Zombie Dawn trilogy that follows the outbreak of a deadly worldwide zombie plague. This epic finale concludes the story 10 years on from Zombie Dawn Outbreak.
Very few communities remain, and those left are the hardiest and most resolute. This book tells of the final bloody fight for survival that will determine the future of mankind.
Across the globe the final bastions of humanity hang on by a thread. In Europe the last great fortified town is besieged by the largest zombie horde that has been seen since the outbreak. Every last weapon and round of ammunition is used in a battle of epic proportions that can only end in total defeat for one side.
In the United States, after being forced from their homes many years before, the survivors of the town of Babylon lead a nomadic lifestyle and have reached Mexico. With only a small number remaining and little more than their horses and hand weapons, the bedraggled group go in search of water. With little hope or morale left, they fight for every second of life.
In the Southern Hemisphere the Flotilla has fought and struggled for 10 years, but it is now time for them to settle down. After making contact with a new community, they decide to risk it all in one last gamble. As the fleet leaves on their final voyage, they receive terrible news. The island, their last best hope for survival, is under a massive attack by the walking dead. Only quick and decisive action can save the day and give them the future they have worked so many years for.

    Dear God! Will anyone survive?
Here we are 10 years after the zombie outbreak took place. Survival is getting harder and harder as supplies are drying up. Our survivors are constantly pursued by the hoards. They are relentless and nearly unstoppable. As I was reading this final tale, I was in a state of shock seeing what the characters were going thru. The Thomas brothers have done a great job showing the reader that you do not want a zombie outbreak to happen. The good times are far and few between for our bands of survivors. This book will shock the reader as it progresses to the final chapter. I do not want to spoil it so I will just say this. I prep for this type of thing. I know, its crazy. But I wouldd not want this scenario to go down like they have presented it. Death, isolation, hunger, and dread are the only constants in this world that they have presented. I am so glad that I got these books. Give them a read, you will not regret it. This book has a lot of shocking turns that will make you feel for these people.
Zombie Dawn Apocalypse (Zombie Dawn Trilogy)
Good book and good story with a great action sequence. Characters are well thought out and sequence of events is riveting.
Hey, I am writing a few year's of revies. This stuff is tedious, so give me a break.

    Zombie Dawn Apocalypse
I liked this book and the series. Each one is too short though and need to be fleshed our a bit.
