1st book is a slow story line
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It was a good way to pass the time on a road trip. Story line was very slow and juveniele. Had I been actually reading this as a book, I probably would have put it down and never picked it back up.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The character being 17, was made out to be more like a 14yr old girl rather than a young woman.
Would you be willing to try another one of Susannah Joness performances?
I'm not a fan of Susannah Jones
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    maybe
Twilight - only with Angels instead of vampires
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Mostly boredom.
    Any additional comments?
The first hour and half was spent listening to the main character cry and be horny. Her parents had just died, so the horribly written sorrow was at least realistic. The next 5 listening hours were a series of the main character breaking into tears for OTHER reasons, and being horny.
    Overbearingly juvenile and predictable
Plot could've been good but I found the author jumped into the romance way too quickly and overbearingly; made the whole story predictable and juvenile. Made for a very corny read, had me rolling my eyes way too often. I liked the (small) back story on Emma's parents and wished the author would have worked on developing the characters a little more and sharing more of their back story instead of jumping right into the romance before we even got to know anything about them besides the way they looked. Felt like the story was being rushed.
    Too Quick..
What would have made Hidden Wings better?
If it didn't move so fast. The love was all the sudden there with no time to develop.
What could Cameo Renae have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Given room rather than speed through things.
What three words best describe Susannah Joness voice?
    Good?
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Disapointment
    Any additional comments?
Don't rush through the book... I wish I could get my money back
Great Performance but choppy story line
The narrator really took you there! But I wish the story was written better. Still, going to have to get the next book!

    Publisher's Summary:
One man will transcend death to seek vengeance. One woman will transform herself to gain power. And no one will emerge unscathed....
Thorvald Spear wakes in a hospital to find he's been brought back from the dead. What's more, he died in a human vs. alien war that ended a century ago. Spear had been trapped on a world surrounded by hostile Prador forces, but Penny Royal, the AI inside the rescue ship sent to provide backup, turned rogue, annihilating friendly forces in a frenzy of destruction and killing Spear. One hundred years later the AI is still on the loose, and Spear vows for revenge at any cost.
Isobel Satomi ran a successful crime syndicate, but after competitors attacked she needed power and protection. Negotiating with Penny Royal, she got more than she bargained for: Turning part-AI herself gave Isobel frightening power, but the upgrades hid a horrifying secret, and the dark AI triggered a transformation that has been turning her into something far from human.
Spear hires Isobel to track Penny Royal across worlds to its last known whereabouts. But he cheats her in the process and quickly finds himself in her crosshairs. As Isobel continues to evolve into a monstrous predator, it's clear her rage will eventually win out over reason. Will Spear finish his hunt before he himself becomes the hunted?
Dark Intelligence is the explosive first novel in a brand new trilogy from military SF master Neal Asher and a new chapter in his epic Polity universe.

Lots of space battles, violent aliens, bloody AIs
Neal Asher and his Polity series has been floating around for a while, but I had read mixed reviews and was never overly interested. However, the first book in his latest series was another Audible sale, so generally willing to give a new space opera a chance, I went ahead and downloaded it.
Dark Intelligence is a rather grimdark space opera full of big ideas: deadly AIs, planet-busting spaceships, ancient alien civilizations, destructive weapons, obsessive protagonists and antagonists, and massive amounts of grotesque violence. It's a bit like the Expanse series with more gore (and the Expanse series is not exactly light on gore), or something by Peter F. Hamilton or Alastair Reynolds but bloodier and darker. (Neal Asher, it turns out, is also a British SF author. They do seem to be fonder of modern-day retellings of Lensmen-level space epics that have kind of gone out of style in the US.)
Thorvald Spear wakes up after being "dead" for a hundred years. His last memory was of being a soldier who'd been captured by a nasty alien race called the Prador, who were at war with the human Polity. Asher's previous books in the Polity series covered the war against the Prador, and there are many references to events and characters that evidently appeared there first. I didn't find it too hard to figure out what's going on, since the Prador are standard-issue genocidal Bug-Eyed Monsters who torture and eat their enemies. In the tradition of such alien enemies from the Kzinti to the Gorn, they got their asses kicked by mankind and thereby became slightly more civilized.
Thorvald's grievance is not against his old enemy the Prador - it's against a "black AI" that controlled a Polity destroyer that turned on his side on the planet where he was fighting the Prador.

    The Chosen
Didn't like as much as other stories by the author...story felt forced...narration was good...was so...so.
    Good Story Bad Ending
This is yet another good story were the ending just pulls everything apart. sigh...
Overall this is a good book.
Their are alot of great moment both heartwarming and gut busting.
The Characters are well rounded and smoothly developed.
The pacing is smooth never felling to fast nor to slow.
The narration is by far the best part about this audiobook with Andrew McFerrin bringing the story and characters to life.
The ending is however were everything goes from pretty good to that "but if that is so than why did such and such happen" realm.
I can't say I would recommend this audiobook but at the same time I can't say just skip it.
If you can take to whole "good-story bad-ending" I would say give this a try.
    That's how it ends...really???...really???
This story started so well and I was really into it at first. This book was a new take on the Adam & Eve story. That part was ok. Meeting other biblical figures in modern present day incarnations. That part was ok too. The big buildup to the final BIG choice. That part was ok as well, not an unheard of tool in storytelling. The ending however left me shaking my head because, nooooo that can't really be how this ends. It wasn't even about the actual choice that was made but more about how quickly it came about. It was so rushed and simplified, almost as if a time limit was expiring and he had to just get SOMETHING on paper.
It was ok right up tell the end
The for most of the book I thought the story was ok. It was interesting to see the world from Adam's point of view (again sort of) so for 95% of the book I was going along thinking this book is ok I'll keep going just to see how it ends but the ending was so so so bad all I could think was that's 5 hours of my life I'm never going to get back! People spoiler alert he picks the dark side.

"If Jena knew anything from growing up in a town full of shapeshifters, it was this: Everything changed."
From Elizabeth Hunter, author of the best-selling Elemental Mysteries, comes the first novel in the new Cambio Springs Mysteries, Shifting Dreams.
Somedays Jena Crowe just can't get a break. Work at her diner never ends, her two boys are bundles of energy, and she's pretty sure her oldest is about to shift into something furry or feathery. Added to that, changes seem to be coming to the tiny town of Cambio Springs, big changes that not everyone in the isolated town of shapeshifters is thrilled about. Caleb Gilbert was looking for change, and the quiet desert town seemed just the ticket for a more peaceful life. He never counted on violence finding him, nor could he have predicted just how crazy his new life would become. When murder rocks their small community, Caleb and Jena will have to work together. And when the new Chief of Police isnt put off by any of her usual defenses, Jena may be faced with the most frightening change of all: lowering the defenses around her carefully guarded heart.

    Once Again, Hunter's UniqueTalent Shines
It is difficult for me to be objective about Elizabeth Hunter's books. I am not a huge fan of her primary genre - sci-fi fantasy. But the genre is the last thing I am thinking about when I am buried in the midst of one of her books. I can become so engrossed and wrapped up in them, it is difficult for me to point to the one thing that sets her books apart. Her characters are always well developed and sympathetic (even the bad guys), her plot is logically laid out, but not overly predictable, her prose flows smoothly and her books are always well-edited.
Shifting Dreams was no exception. I read this in ebook format several months ago, before it became available on Audible. I was so impressed with her Elemental World series I wanted to read everything she had ever written. I liked it so much the first time I was eager to listen to it as soon as the audiobook was available. The plot revolves around a quirky little southwestern town with a "magical" spring - drinking from it gives some people and their offspring the ability to shape-shift. Rather than focusing on the mechanics of how that actually works, she focuses on the inter-relationships in a town that is full of eccentric and unique characters, with the least of their eccentricities being the ability to shift into another creature. And by allowing her characters to shift into several different species, many of which don't co-exist well in the wild, she adds another layer of complexity to the inter-relationship difficulties. She doesn't capitalize on this aspect too much in the first book, but seems to be laying a foundation.
The characters at the center of the story are sympathetic, each coming to the relationship slightly damaged with considerable baggage. The kids weren't too cute or too annoying, but seemed pretty realistic - at least as realistic as the plot would allow.
The narrator did a good job. My only criticism is that she wasn't Dina Pearlman. Just like the voice of Molly Harper will always be Amanda Ronconi to my ears, Elizabeth Hunter now speaks to me in Dina Pearlman's voice.
There are a couple of ebook novellas that provide some background to the series that I recommend reading.

    The Way
    Any additional comments?
This series follows a reluctant shaman, named Joanne Walkingstick, as she stumbles along the four paths to enlightenment saving the world along the way. The protagonist has a hilarious inner voice which will keep the reader smiling as s/he explores adventures with the Wild Hunt and more. Great writing; great reading. This is the final installment. Even though this isn't the best book in the series, this is a great series.
fantastic ending to a great series
I loved, loved, loved this series and this book was the perfect end. There just aren't words to describe it.
    great book, involved read
i liked the book overall. it had some slow parts bit overall was good. always nice when good wins and bad creates havoc.
like the female hetro overall and I will probably read the other books now also.
I was worried that because it was a harlaquin book it would be sappy romance...but it was just the right blend of action, drama, and romance.
It's a lot to take in.
Wow! There was just so many things that happened. No one was safe. This was a great ending to this series.
    Coming of age!
Joanne Walker along with her cast of characters is one of my favorite paranormal series. With that being said, this was one of the most difficult books for me to comprehend and stick with. There are new entities, new shaman techniques and disciplines, and both new and old characters making an appearance. While Walker is learning and dealing with both enhanced and completely new abilities; in a sense the reader or listener is also. Regardless, this is an exciting tale of Walker coming of age in her shamanic profession, cleaning up some old scores, and establishing her place in the paranormal world. I may have to go back to listen to it again!

Not bad, needed a better narrator. Original story and clever characters. This is one of my favorite authors. Check out Emperor Mullusk and Monster by the same guy.
    A.Lee is my man
I Loved it. Amazing characters and well preformed. I would recommend to anyone who loves to laugh.
    Was not my favorite
Although a big fan and have even met the author, I just felt the story was lacking. And the main character tries so hard that she looses you with her personality. And the conflict at the end is just there for conflict sake. He has alot better books to read and listen to.
    Star crossed lovers
I enjoyed this story of star crossed lovers. Our main character is a witch born under a curse cast by an evil wizard. The curse was cast to affect a future descendent. The curse was evident her birth. Because of this she was not named by her parents. She has a curse that should result in an evil character. The problem is that she is basically a good person. Our Nameless Witch's character develops well. As she discovers the true extent of her evil curse, she struggles to remain good. A man enters her life forcing her to examine her life, goals, hopes and dreams microscopically. This story is kinda predictable. But it is written well. There is humor mixed in with the sadness. I enjoyed Ann Marie Lee's narration. My biggest complaint was that the story got a little too long in parts.
The least enjoyable A Lee Martinez book.
What disappointed you about A Nameless Witch?
The story was slow moving and lacked substance and humor. I'm a big fan of his other work but this one misses the mark. I was also disappointed that this book appeared to be a new book from the author, but was really an old book with a new recording. Martinez has definitely grown as an author since this book and I highly suggest checking out his other stuff.

The narrator was superb! She voiced the book perfectly and met my high expectations easily. I recommend this audiobook highly!
good story but Annoying audio quality
I really enjoyed listening to this story but the auto quality was subpar. every time the reader would speak you could hear a audio tape in the background so you can hear background noises which I found on distracting from the storyline
    Quite a fascinating read!
Tittle: Miss Mable's School for Girls
    Format: Audiobook
    Author: Katie Cross
    Narrated by: Becca Ballenger
    Shelf: Fantasy, Magic, Young-Adult, Witches
Miss Mable's School for Girls is the first book of the Network series written by author Katie Cross. I listened to an audiobook of this narrated by Becca Ballenger.
I dont really do witches or for that fact anything paranormal. The last book I read in this genre was probably Twilight in 2010. But omg. This was good. The writing was very simple yet interesting. The novel revealed it's secret quite consistently and keeped me hooked through out story. It's like, Katie Cross opened a whole new genre for me. And I mean it.
    Pros: 1. Well written.
    2. Plus it is very well woven and compact.
    3. It is an interesting read. Keeps you hooked throughout.
    4. There is magic.
Cons: 1. There certainly could have been more action. More magic.
    2. The supporting characters seemed pretty useless. No one except Mable had any important role to play. It would have been so much better if Lida or Camile had important roles to play. Or maybe Celia or Scarlet for the fact.
And yes, the narration was wonderful. I must say Becca Ballenger is a brilliant voice actress.
The next book in this series is Antebullum Awakening. Can't wait to find out what happens next and hoping to get more of the magic and the thrill.
Magic School + Curse + Looming War
This was a delightful start to a magical series. It follows in some well known magical footsteps reminiscent of Harry Potter, but differences that clearly make it unique. Magic school for girls, a curse and a looming war add to the plot and the only thing that kept me (personally) from loving it was the ability to see where the story was heading before we got there. Nonetheless, will definitely keep the series on my radar and have already picked up the prequel.
The narrator brought this story home for me and made it come alive. Will love hearing Becca's voice in future additions.
    Loved this story.

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
A prophetic and experimental masterpiece by J. G. Ballard, the acclaimed author of Crash and Super-Cannes. This edition features explanatory notes from the author.
The irrational, all-pervading violence of the modern world is the subject of this extraordinary tour de force. The central characters dreams are haunted by images of John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, dead astronauts and car-crash victims as he traverses the screaming wastes of nervous breakdown.
Seeking his sanity, he casts himself in a number of roles: H-bomber pilot, presidential assassin, crash victim, psychopath. Finally, through the black, perverse magic of violence he transcends his psychic turmoil to find the key to a bizarre new sexuality.
    J. G. Ballard was born in 1930 in Shanghai, where his father was a businessman. After internment in a civilian prison camp, he and his family returned to England in 1946.
He published his first novel, The Drowned World, in 1961. His 1984 best seller Empire of the Sun won the Guardian Fiction Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. It was later filmed by Steven Spielberg. His memoir Miracles of Life was published in 2008. J. G. Ballard died in 2009.

    Ballard's extreme experiment - bizarre & brilliant
I had no idea how this would work as an audiobook, as it has had several incarnations in print, including annotated and heavily illustrated editions, but I thought it worked remarkably well. This is apparently the 'annotated' version - the author's commentary is incorporated in the form of endnotes at the end of each 'chapter' (in my opinion, a much better way to deal with annotations than trying to work them into the narrative at the point at which they appear in the written text). However, this audio version only has two of the four 'appendices' or 'found texts' that were added to the book in later years.
I was critical of William Gaminara's narration of Ballard's 'Hello America', but I thought his narration of this intentionally disorienting and disjointed text, which is more collage than narrative, was excellent. With one very minor exception, any accents are subtle and his narration is clear and well paced, which assists with the focus that is needed to follow this text.
If you are coming to this book for the first time, understand that this is a deliberately disturbing text. It's a surrealist exercise, challenging in form and in substance: it explores themes that are perverse, pornographic, violent and confronting. It is non-linear, intentionally repetitive and, to a certain extent, has dated (with its particular references to events and personalities of the decade in which it was written, not all of whom may be familiar). However, one of its most powerful aspects is its critique of violence and the media spectacle, a theme that remains (sadly) relevant.
I personally found it extremely difficult to get into the first 'chapter' (I can't remember if I had the same issue reading the hard copy text). If you have similar difficulties, remember that each 'chapter' was originally published as a stand-alone story, and it is possible to read the chapters in an alternative order.

Wlodek, Head of the Vampire Council, in an effort to solidify vampire/werewolf relations, allows Lissa to provide protection for the Grand Master during his yearly travels across the U.S. The only vampire ever named Pack, Lissa is permitted to work with the Grand Master without supervision from others of her kind.
Things become complicated and then downright deadly as old enemies reemerge. Intent on exacting revenge for a failed coup against the Grand Master, rogue werewolves join with new and perilous allies. Now, Lissa must find a way not only to keep the werewolf race alive, but the vampires as well.

    Great story, equally great narrator
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, i have read this whole series on kindle and it's even better to listen to it on audible. I like the main character and her story flows very quickly. I just want to know when the rest of her series will be out on audible. Because this book ended in quite a cliff hanger
What did you like best about this story?
Watching how the main character evolves and adapts to circumstances way beyond her control
What about Traci Odoms performance did you like?
When a book has a good narrator I am never really aware of them. That's how good Traci is
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    The last paragraph !
    Any additional comments?
Anyone interested in a good series with vampires, other supernatural characters, a strong female lead and a little romance mixed in will like this series.
    WHAT AN ENDING!!!

I don't know! I haven't read the print version, but I am super upset all the books are not available on audible yet!!!!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Passage?
    The Cliff Hanger!
    Which scene was your favorite?
idk, I think the book was all good! I am just ready for all the other books to be on audible and am so impatient!!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This whole book was moving!! I feel so conflicted regarding Lissa's situation. Everything she goes though is super rough!
    Any additional comments?
PLEASE Hurry and Get the other books to this series!
Please more books for this series!
What made the experience of listening to Blood Passage the most enjoyable?
The voice. And it's not some teenager discovering vampires. She is a really woman with a life's experience.
What does Traci Odom bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Great character voices. Draws you in.

    Publisher's Summary:
There are reasons we fear the night. Now he's trying to stop them.
Three months have passed since the fateful encounter in New York City that ended with the disappearance of Bill Ryder - gamer, geek, and legendary vampire. Now he's back - reawakened halfway across the globe with no allies, clothing, or clue as to how he got there. The only thing he's certain of is that his captors plan to use him for their own nefarious ends and don't care how much blood they spill in the process.
Escape might be the least of his worries, though. Civilization teeters on the brink of chaos. Mythical beasts, once thought the stuff of fantasy, are breaking through the veil, intent on waging war against mankind. At their forefront stands an ancient evil, the last remnant of a people thought long dead, and it's about to cut a swath of destruction through the world not seen since biblical times.
Bill's only chance is to reclaim his life, reconcile with his friends, and muster every bit of attitude he can - because if he fails, Hell on Earth will become far more than just a corny saying.

Good, but mainly a transition story
This is the 5th book in the Tome of Bill series. Getting right to the point, if you liked the previous books in this series you will like this one as well. If you did not like the previous books then why the heck have you continued this far into the series?
The story is interesting and the humor is good. There is a bit of character development but not too much which is good as this series is supposed to be light and I'd hate to lose the fun and humor as the series progresses. Some of the character actions don't make great sense, then again stupid actions are Bill's trademark.
Really I would have given this book 4 stars except that the conclusion of the story is sort of weak and it really is more of a setup for later stories than a true stand alone novel. I hate stories that are left hanging. It's one thing to have a meta-plot but quite another to leave the reader feeling like the story was not adequately resolved.
The narrarator is good. He does one of the best smart-alec voices I have heard. He doesn't have the greatest range but his ability to bring out the humor more than makes up for other shortcomings. The problem with this one is the audio quality wasn't as good as the previous books. You could definitely could hear different volume levels as they switched tracks which is annoying and makes you turn your mp3 player up and down a good bit
Other than that this is another fun and enjoyable book in the series. I am looking forward to the next one, but definitely hope for a better ending to the next book..
Read Sunset Strip before this one! Great Book
Sunset Strip is in this series but is the book to read before this one. Still really enjoying the series!
    Bill continues to please
Bill the vampire remains a hero you reluctantly love. And you can rest assured his adventures continue to play out enticingly in this latest volume. This is more of the quirky, dorky, and desperately fun stuff we've seen all through the series. The action, plot, and supporting cast do not disappoint.
Mister Fetherolf continues to be the absolutely perfect voice for Bill; and his skill with sarcastic dialogue always lends just the right edge.
