    Publisher's Summary:
She turns to the future in a world thats falling apart.
For 16-year-old Tris, the world changes in a heartbeat when she is forced to make a terrible choice. Turning her back on her family, Tris ventures out, alone, determined to find out where she truly belongs.
Shocked by the brutality of her new life, Tris can trust no one. And yet she is drawn to a boy who seems to both threaten and protect her. The hardest choices may yet lie ahead.
A debut novel that will leave you breathless.
    Critic Reviews:
"Though Galvins narration is concentrated on giving Tris the perfect voice, she never neglects the secondary characters. Poignant moments with Triss mother and Four, her leader and love, are subtly nuanced to let listeners hear the terror Tris often hides.... listeners will hold their breath waiting to see if she can survive the day." Good, but rushed at the end.
Bit too rushed at the end. The sudden change in atmosphere is a bit too sharp and fast. But overall good.
    Interesting concept but...
Where does Divergent rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Divergent is actually an interesting book. In particular the concept, however the series overall is extremely disappointing.
Has Divergent turned you off from other books in this genre?
I read the Hunger game series years before this series and this series is lacking in comparison. I enjoyed the concept/idea of this book, but be warned this is a trilogy.
What about Emma Galvins performance did you like?
I enjoyed her reading of the book(s) Pity the series overall is so lacking.
    Any additional comments?
The first book is great. The second book is also pretty good. I hated the third book and not because of it's ending. I just could not finish the book. So for me this series would get 1 star. The only reason I know about "the gasp" ending is because someone it work asked me if that's why I didn't finish it. For anyone who enjoys a good, solid, well written ending to a series this series is not for you.
He said, she said, I said SCREAM
Would you try another book from Veronica Roth and/or Emma Galvin?
Yes I enjoyed reading the book and Emma Galvin is a great narrator
If youve listened to books by Veronica Roth before, how does this one compare?
Ok, honestly I thought I was going to throw my phone to the ground if I heard 'He said' 'I said' 'she said' one more time. It was doing my head in and I some how put up with it throughout the next two books
Did Emma Galvin do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
    Yes, the differences where there
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    Yes
    Easy reading
I purchased this book as I had seen the film, and it did not disappoint.
The screenplay remained true to the book. It was easy to read but descriptive and engrossing. Listed as a book for teenagers, I found it enjoyable in the lack of adult themes. With an open mind, give it a try.
    Fantastic book
Where does Divergent rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
in line with Hunger games and The Host
Have you listened to any of Emma Galvins other performances? How does this one compare?
She is a fantastic narrator, no silly voices
    Any additional comments?
Give it a go, you will soon be enthralled.

Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal. Though she is desperately poor, her life is full of simple pleasures, like playing hopscotch with her best friend from school and having her mother brush her hair by the light of an oil lamp. But when the harsh Himalayan monsoons wash away all that remains of the family's crops, Lakshmi's stepfather says she must leave home and take a job to support her family. He introduces her to a glamorous stranger who tells her she will find her a job as a maid in the city. Glad to be able to help, Lakshmi journeys to India and arrives at "Happiness House" full of hope. But she soon learns the unthinkable truth: she has been sold into prostitution.
An old woman named Mumtaz rules the brothel with cruelty and cunning. She tells Lakshmi that she is trapped there until she can pay off her family's debt - then cheats Lakshmi of her meager earnings so that she can never leave. Lakshmi's life becomes a nightmare from which she cannot escape. Still, she lives by her mother's words - simply to endure is to triumph - and gradually, she forms friendships with the other girls that enable her to survive in this terrifying new world. Then the day comes when she must make a decision - will she risk everything for a chance to reclaim her life?
Written in spare and evocative vignettes, this powerful novel renders a world that is as unimaginable as it is real, and a girl who not only survives but triumphs.
    Critic Reviews:
"Hard-hitting...poignant. The author beautifully balances the harshness of brothel life with the poignant relationships among its residents." (Publishers Weekly Starred Review)

    Perfectly Haunting....
This book is just plain haunting... I got through this book in one sitting... This is undoubtedly going to be one of my favorite books. The book is sad, honest, raw and beautiful at the same time. It becomes one of those books that you do not want to finish because it is so good but find yourself incapable of actually stopping.
While going through the book you have the decision of either steeling yourself or to completely immerse yourself. The book surrounds Lakshmi, a 13 year old girl who goes through just goes through heartbreaking situations. The entire scope of the book lasts just one year but the tragic circumstances that she endured is more than one needs to endure for a lifetime. The writing was haunting in nature and taken from the vantage point as Lakshmi herself makes it even more heart-wrenching. You see as she moves from a hopeful, naive girl to a seemingly broken shell of her former self and then to a downright fighter. The book is gripping throughout and plays heavily on your morality and sense of humanity.
The narration, for me, was superb. The way that the narrator was able to bring across the entire story in such a haunting manner is impressive. She only adds to the mood of the book and leaves you utterly gripped to the novel. 5 Star Narration through and through here.
My name is Lakshmi. I am from Nepal. I am 13.
STORY (fiction) - This is a chilling story of human trafficking which needs to be heard. It is sad, but it's beautifully written and performed. As the summary suggests, Lakshmi's parents are tricked and she is sold into prostitution at the age of 13. The book is short (3:44).

    Back on Course
I came to this series very late, but made up for that this summer by devouring all nine then available in an embarrassingly short time. For those very familiar with the series, take what I write with the knowledge that my favorites were the first, second, fourth, sixth and eighth, and that I ccan only be said to have been disappointed in the ninth. I was so disappointed that I worried about this book as much as I eagerly awaited its release.
Mark of the Golden Dragon with what I considered to be an overly convoluted plot and uneven pacing made me wonder what the rest of the series would hold, particularly with its emphasis on Jacky's nights on the town and involved scheming. This time around though, we have something I think is far more akin to Bonnie Light Horseman, with Jacky hopping from place to place, balancing her attempts to learn what's going on in a given locale and building relationships with the friendly or not so friendly people she meets, particularly every young male in sight. There is also action distributed fairly regularly throughout to keep things lively, and of course, Jacky is cursed with as much bad luck as she's blessed with good. I think Jamie's side-chapters were at their best with Mississippi Jack and Lorelei Lee, where he was actively pursuing her. Having him on his own, while better than watching him go insane, doesn't really add much if you're not overly invested in that aspect of the story aside from wanting it to reach some sort of conclusion. All the same though, it is not so distracting as in the last installment. Also, there is no nautical action in this outing, but a return to running around continental city streets and countryside looking to bring confusion to Napoleon's forces.
Happily, this book continues to deliver the constants that will always make this series a favorite, regardless of the odd turns it might take. The writing is still hilarious, Jacky is still a lovable scoundrel and Katherine Kellgren's performance is simply top notch.
If you were at all hesitant, I urge you to sail on. And if you haven't tried the series before, this installment means you now have one more adventure to look forward to than you did before.
Great, but left me wanting more.
This story was as great as all the previous ones, with one exception. The ending. I felt a little cheated. I think the story should have continued for one more chapter. But it does leave me breathlessly waiting for the next book, as ususal. Katherine Kellgren was awesome, as I have come to expect.
    Jackie Faber rules!
What made the experience of listening to Viva Jacquelina! the most enjoyable?
This series is my all-time favorite audiobooks! Viva Jacquelina continues to wonderful story of Jackie Faber and her many adventures.

Purchased for the narrator, but found it excellent
I grabbed this book after searching for David Tennant. While the narration was wonderful, I was amazed at how moving I found the story to be. There were plenty of times that I found myself smiling or laughing, and in one spot completely bawling.
David Tennant is also quite a talented narrator - I listened to this during a long distance drive, travelling at fast speeds on the open highway, in a car that doesn't have great sound proofing. I never had to fiddle with the volume. David Tennant was able to communicate the full range of the characters emotions with a clear, even tone, that many can't master.
This is a touching, well written story. I'll be looking for more from the author.
    Excellent narration
The narrator brought characters to life beautifully, and added to the richness of the story. I also appreciated the musical interludes between chapters; it allowed for breathing space, giving the listener a break from the tension of the story.
    You will cry
You will cry. It's that simple -- David Tennant will take Annabel Pitcher's words and slowly tear at your heartstrings. Wonderful story, wonderful reader, an amazing listen.
Ordered for the narration, but book is charming
I ordered this book because I love David Tennant's audio performances, and he doesn't disappoint here. I love that he doesn't have different voices for the different characters, but distinguishes them by the changing the quality of his voice. My only niggle was that he used his own Scottish accent rather than using an English one.
The book itself is charming and well written, but I think many of the characters are rather flatly portrayed (although this may be intentional as the narrator is a 10-year old boy). Also, at times the boy seems much younger than 10 years old, to the point where it's a bit unrealistic. Even so, I still like the book because it feels like an honest, simple, and moving depiction of how young people deal with tragedy--of any kind.
In short, well done and certainly worth a listen!
    Moved Beyond Words
A thank you to the author for such a book as this.
If I can edit this later, I will attempt to put the largess of feelings and insight I had from this book

Its suck a good book if you are interested in adventure and exportation you should read it
Another great book in the series
I loved the first book and thought the second was OK. But books 3 and 4 renewed my love for this series! Great story and great performance by the reader.
Great story, good reader, ok background music
Brian's return has a great story, the reader does a good job, but the background music is alright, but a little dramatic, great job overall.
    Another Excellent Installment!
I'm a huge fan of this series! I couldn't stand the "dramatic" music in this audiobook version though. Again...big fan but wow, that music was annoying.
    the woods within
love this book. I can relate to the woods getting in you. nothing like the peace and just utter relax of the woods, even when there is work to do it doesn't feel like work

(Amazon.com review)
"The Lemony Snicket author (writing under his own name) convincingly inhabits the mind of Min, a teenage girl reeling from her first heartbreak. This poignant, bittersweet novel centers on a box of objects infused with memories of her brief, unforgettable love." (Entertainment Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    I hated this book!
What disappointed you about Why We Broke Up?
I was so excited to read this! (well I listened to the audio book) I was seriously disappointed, it was long and boring and just not very good, I wish I hadnt of wasted my money, its about a girl who dates a boy for 1 month and he is a jock she is a weird film girl, like indie or hipster type, anyways, they date. They break up, she is writing to him on why whilst giving back any relic she had saved from her relationship to him.
Its boring, it gets ok toward the end when it hits the climax, which is EXTREMELY PREDICTABLE. I listened to the whole thing thinking it would get better.
The entire thing is like the winey, woah is me first chapter of Twilight.
Would you ever listen to anything by Daniel Handler again?
I dont know if they're like this, then no.
What aspect of Khristine Hvams performance would you have changed?
    she was fine
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
frustrastion, Take all the worst parts of 500 days of summer and make this immature teenagers and BAM you have this book.
    Any additional comments?
wouldn't suggest reading it. I was so excited and it just lacked any redeeming fact for me. :/
    Wasn't for me!
Very boring! Couldn't listen to most of it and fast forwarded. Want my money back :/
    Sound Effects Rock!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. The addition of the sound effects was fantastic.
What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She read the part of a teenaged girl who's recounting a bad break up very well. I also like the voice she used for Ed.
I never thought I would miss high school
This story is in no way even remotely close to my own experience in high school, but Handler has managed to evoke the way things felt and the way kids interact. He has managed to remind me that there were actually good things about high school. That there were good things about teenagers.

Everybody wonders what their Destiny will be. Josh and Emma are about to find out.
    Critic Reviews:
"A clever, timely story that will attract any teen with a Facebook account." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    Fascinating concept, entertaining story
This was weirdly unbelievable, but a lot of fun to listen to. The basic idea is that a boy gives a girl a free AOL CD In 1996 and when she logs on, she finds herself looking at FaceBook 15 years into the future. She sees her own profile and believes that her future self is unhappy so she changes current decisions and then logs on again to see if her future is any better. Her friend Josh likes what his future looks like, so he keeps trying to stop Emma from changing things.
The story was fun and unique. I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite scenes was when they read a Facebook comment that said something like "Looking at the planets....poor Pluto" and Josh says "What the hell happened to Pluto?" Funny.
I bumped off one star for just a couple of quirks that weren't quite right. For example, in 1996, the GUI Internet was a little further developed worldwide than the AOL-only version in the book. The characters acted like the Internet was new. Also, there were a few times when the author led the characters toward unnatural decisions that I had a hard time swallowing. Nothing huge, just like when they realized they could see their futures, rather than diving into everything in the short online time that they had, they suddenly decide "Let's not look anymore today." It wasn't realistic. If you could see into the future and you're not sure if the web page will be there the next time you log on, are you going to just turn it off? It's not a huge thing, but enough that I couldn't justify a full five stars.
I'd definitely recommend the book, even for adults who were around 15 years ago and remember the time period.
    Enjoyable Book!
What did you love best about The Future of Us?
The innovative concept of two teenagers in the 90's accessing Facebook in 2010.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Future of Us?
When Josh first brings over the AOL CD-ROM was such a fun flashback to what so many of us experienced 15 years ago.
    Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was the first time Emma and Josh start to explore Facebook together.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was moved by the scene in which Emma first discovers that Josh is no longer her Facebook friend in 15 years due to actions she has taken trying to change her future.
    Very good
This book kept me very interested. I love how I can relate to it being years ago and current day.
    Very interesting Story
The concept of the story is very predictable and makes common sense. I'm actually surprised I have not seen many books based on Facebook like this. I found the fact that the story takes place in the 90's quite funny. The AOL era, floppy disk, and not everyone having a computer: time was interesting. What I did not like was the ending. You don't know what happened and if anything did come true.

    Disappointing and cliche.
    What disappointed you about Envy?
Outdated references, irritating, choppy dialogue, and improbable plot points.
Would you ever listen to anything by Gregg Olsen again?
Probably not. He wrote from the perspective of a teenage girl, making everyone look stupid, vain and self centered. Also, he tried to describe fashion and tastes which came off outdated and not what a teenager would wear.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her teenagers sounded all the same, nasal valley girls.

Realistic Fiction Doesnt Seem So Real
First, I am a huge fan of YA Fantasy/Supernatural/ Magic stories. I do not read much in the genre of Realistic Fiction. But it seems that the more I do, the less it is a portrayal of real life. Many times everything doesnt work out for the best and that tragic ending really does happen. I dont think Im a pessimistic person, but the realistic YA books seem a little too cheery at the end and , well thats not real. This book is a good story, but again - it all works out in the end . . .

Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life: Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months, shes simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. Thats why Kat isnt surprised when shes asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners. There are only three problems. First, the gem hasnt been seen in public in 30 years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long - and in Kats world, history almost always repeats itself. But its the third problem that makes Kats crew the most nervous, and that is the emerald is cursed.
Kat might be in way over her head, but shes not going down without a fight. After all, she has her best friend - the gorgeous Hale - and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses and realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time - which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules.

    Very fun, as always!
Just a mini-review for UNCOMMON CRIMINALS today! It had been almost four years since I had read HEIST SOCIETY (on audio) before I picked up UNCOMMON CRIMINALS but it wasnt because of disinterest. After four years of waiting, I finally gave up hope that my library was going to get the audiobook because I just really enjoyed Angela Dawes performance so much! I knew I had to keep this one going on audio.
UNCOMMON CRIMINALS was just as much fun as I remember HEIST SOCIETY being! I just love heist books because so many of them often times employ a lot of humor or sarcasm, I think mostly because the characters are just so clever. You really have to be able to outsmart everyone when pulling off a heist and I think that extends a lot into a characters social interactions as well. I feel like UNCOMMON CRIMINALS was a little less humorous and a bit more serious than HEIST SOCIETY since the stakes were raised a bit more, though!
I really enjoyed how the characters relationships started to go a bit deeper as well. Theres always a certain level of trust in a friendship especially when it involves deception and thievery but Kat really starts to amp things up with Hale, whether she intended to or not, and both friendships and familial relationships are really put into the spotlight in this book.
UNCOMMON CRIMINALS is an easy read but still full of so many important moments that any teen (or adult) can relate to. I love the balance of humor along with the severity of a heist and all of the experiences that come along with it. These books are so enjoyable and Im hoping to finish up the series soon! Although now Im hearing book three is not the last book like I thought it was so more adventures for me, I guess!
    Nice bad guys?
Rootin' for the wrong side, but!? Entertaining? Yes! And enjoyed it the second time through!
    Light and pleasant
