Fun story, but audio may not be the best medium

Went looking for another Cherie Priest book set in the real world and was excited to find this one is set in Seattle, a city I know pretty well. Priest gives us an excellent tour of the city and had me thinking I had actually seen signs of Princess X in my own adventures around town. I wish this book had gotten more notice locally, especially from the local comic con and rather significant comic book scene. It would be fun to do this as a book club selection with Girl Scouts or some similar group. It's a wonderful YA book for mid-adolescent age but also fun to read as an adult.

That said, this book is probably best experienced in visual form, as the story shifts from novel to graphic novel. The narration is fine with the novel characters but the comic book characters are overacted and irritating. The narrator just doesn't have the vocal range for those parts of the book, which are almost painful to listen to. Casting a separate narrator for those voices may have been a better choice.

Even with the sometimes irritating narration, I was sad when the story ended. I really love these characters! I hope Cherie Priest writes more of these sorts of fantasy thrillers set in real places; she's got an amazing sense of place.

I loved the great adventure that May and Patrick took to save the princess! It was a good book!

I loved the book it's amazing I even want to read it again I comprehended so well it's fun existing and scary. I did not like the fact it said a couple things wrong. Other then that it was awesome!

Gripping, hilarious and sad. It cannot be skipped. You will love this story. I could not turn it off.

Wow, I really enjoyed this book!

Would you listen to Denton Little's Deathdate again? Why?

Yes. The story line was great. The concept is based a little on that movie "Logan's Run" from the 80s. It has some pretty funny and light moments in it. Although the story is about a 17 year old, I thought it appealed to readers of all ages and I am over 50.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Denton and his best friend. This two are just quite funny together along with the sister Veronica. Oh and also the grandpa has some great lines.

What does Lance Rubin bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Lance did a great job reading his own book. He knew how he wanted his characters to sound and just where in their talking to each other to emphasize a point.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I thought the book was so good that I recommended to my husband that he should listen to it too and he will.

Any additional comments?

Only that if you are like murder/fantasy mysteries like I do (Dean Koontz, Jo Nesbo, James Butcher, Charlaine Harris) then this will be a good different direction book to try.

Funny, well-written story with sub-par audio

The novel was funny and engaging. The audio, performed by the book's author, left a little to be desired. There is no voice distinction between characters, not to mention, he reads in a bit of a monotone.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, as did my early teen children.

Angel is about to experience betrayal of the worst kind. And this time, it's not entirely my fault. Shocker.

Could not listen

Buyer Beware! Please, please, please listen to the sample before buying! This review in no way has anything to do with the actual story. The narrator's voice/vocal interpretation immediately took me out of the story. It in no way reminded me of our fun, bad ass but lovable demon boy. It seemed all demon and all creepy. I hope the digital is better.

Love the series, but...

I'm all for the book being from his point of view but this narrator was HORRIBLE!! If I weren't already into the series I wouldn't have made it through! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if a man reads the next one pick anyone but this guy!

Love the story not the narrator

I really wish they wouldn't keep changing the narrators. it sounds better when a female narrates it. this guy drag it out for hours. the story was good I love the whole storyline but the narrator made it terrible

Disappointing, and really creepy narrator

I loved the previous books, but I had to force myself to finish this one. First of all, the guy's voice was super creepy and scary, and I had to get the Kindle version instead. I tried the audible several times, but couldn't stand it. This is not how I pictured Chase sounding! Check out the preview before you get it.

Other than that, there wasn't the same attraction between Chase and Angel, and I didn't really like hearing the story from Chase's point of view. The ending was not satisfying. It's meant to be a cliffhanger, but it left me glad that it was over and not caring about reading the final book (though I probably will eventually, and hope it's more like the previous books).

Getting a little long...

Still love chase, but feel the story is getting a little too long. Loved the narrator of the previous books, but this guys voice scared the crap out of me!

Reading in Spanish was off

The story was fine but I was really distracted by the fact that the reader did not know how to read some of the words in Spanish. Not sure if it was intentional but it was bad.

A rich, thoughtful book

Gabi, A Girl in Pieces is a stunning book, full of humor, personality, and tenderness. Framed as a journal kept by Gabi, a young Mexican-American woman with a passion for poetry, the story follows her life during her senior year of high school. Gabi struggles with her identity, her sense of self, her feelings about her body, about boys, about sex and about the complex relationships she has with her family and friendsand she explores them all through poetry. Many difficult things happen during the school year (some of which warrant trigger warnings, which Ill place under a spoiler at the bottom of this review), and at times this lovely book is wrenchingly sad, full of Gabis grief and anger, but its balanced by her hopefulness, her wry humor, and unbridled enthusiasm for the things she lovespoetry, and mouthwatering descriptions of food.

I listened to the audiobook of Gabi, A Girl in Pieces, and I thought that the narration by Kyla Garcia was fantastic, emotional and engaging.

Coming of Age Latina

Triste pero la verdad. The sadness of growing up with the superstitions of elders and the hard roles girls are thrust into this book was part heartache and part joyful giggling friendship. Worth a read especially si hablas Español.

Beautiful!

Genuine and authentic teen tale! Gabi tells her story through daily diary entries throughout her senior year. The audio delivery adds even more to an already wonderful tale!

love these books

another great book by Ellen hopkins I couldn't stop listening to this book at work!

very Well written

I loved this story. At first the narrators voice was monotonous but I warmed up to it The ending made me cry

She did it again

Ellen Hopkins is the first author I have ever had the pleasure of discovering. I found her book, crank, a long time ago. Back when it was her only book. It was the first time I read a book cover to cover in one day. I couldn't get enough. Years later, I discovered she wrote a few more. Glass (the sequel) and Burned. I of course bought both. Then Impulse. Tricks. Identical. Each and every time I am sucked in, unable to do anything but read her books. I am refreshed that someone can have so much insight on life and what really happens in the world. Ellen Hopkins has a gift. She was born to write these novels. And after 3 years of not reading a book, I listened to this novel. I was immediately sucked in. The only thing I didn't like was the reader on this book. He is very hard to listen to. His tone is quite weird and isn't what i picture for her novels. But perhaps that is just my own perception. Even so, i was up. I was down. I was speaking back to the characters. I was completely wrapped up in this story. Anytime I could listen, I was listening. I highly recommend this book, and other books written by this author, to anyone. I would of course tell those with very sensitive triggers to read the basic plot of each of her stories to make sure they don't inadvertently hear a story they can't emotionally handle. Ellen does not hold back. Prepare yourself to become these characters. Prepare for a reading experience you have never had before. It changes your life and perspective. I give it a 10 star out of 5.

There is not one book written by Ellen Hopkins that isn't inspiring and breath taking. Absolutely great!!

The narrator's voice can be sing-songy at times.

Great read overall! Had a great twist and a point of view we don't hear often.

For Music Lovers and Outsiders

There are so many great. quotable moments in this book, as main character Elise struggles with finding her identity and trying to learn the social language that she just can't interpret.

The book is a little dark, and deals with themes of suicide and bullying. While listening to this book I kept thinking of Stephen King's quote about not trusting anyone who says they loved high school. I do believe that the things that make you interesting as an adult can be the thing that made you a target of ridicule in school.

I loved how real Elise was, how complicated and oblivious she could be, and how she could be confident and fearless in some aspects of her life, while completely inept and scared in others areas. Her actions sometimes had me shaking my head, but I loved her.

This Song Will Save Your Life is a rare YA book in the fact that Elise's parents play a big role, and you can see the way their parenting would result in who Elise is.

I would definitely recommend this book to readers of all ages (especially if you're a lover of music and have Cure and Joy Division in your own playlist).

Loved the narration, which I felt captured Elise perfectly.

Can't really imagine who I would recommend this book too. I think anyone who can relate to the sad, boring, pathetic protagonist would probably be depressed to tears reading about her life.

If she somehow gets a personality transplant and acquires a sense of humor, then yes.

Shining Depths; Unfortunate Shallows...

The Publisher's Summary pretty much covers what the entire book is about. Laurel chooses those who died utterly tragic deaths, summing up how she feels about her sister, May's, death.

When Dellaira writes of Laurel's communion with the dead, the book really shines. It reads like the most tragic poetry there is. When she flows into the day to day life of Laurel, things falter a bit. It's the same thing that most YA is about: friendship, fitting in, first love, the angst of knowing you're different, knowing you may love people that society frowns upon. There's a remarkable lack of depth in the day-to-day.

Julia Whelan really knocks it out of the park, though--as she ALWAYS does. It's a decent enough listen, rather engaging. Just don't expect knock your socks off prose/story... until you hit the bits of poetry within.

The only thing worse than a waste of money is a waste of time.

"Love Letters to the Dead" is worth the time, but honestly? Not worth the whole credit. Daily Deal or Credit Bundle...

Good, Sulky Listen

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I liked the sulky, angsty feel of this book. It pulled me in and matched my mood when I wanted to listen to something deeper and more serious. I love how Laurel's search of herself via writing through the diary really allowed her to work things out with herself towards the end of the listen.

I like how you get to know the main character. I found myself cry at times because I really connected to her and felt her pain

I loved the animation she gave. Not only did she just read the words but she did a great job as getting the emotion as well.

the storyline may have been okay, but it is all for nothing! you have no idea what happens with anybody! unless you want to be completely outraged at the ending, do not read it!

another great book by Ellen Hopkins! This is probably the 8th or 9th book of hers that I have read, and she has yet to let me down!

Never lets me down!

I loved this book. I'm happy to hear the other side of Triangles from the kids point of view. There needs to be another!

I really enjoyed Ellen Hopkins books when I was in high school and I fell out of interest when I got older. However, I read her two books that are more directed towards adults, "collateral" and "triangle" and it made me remember what an amazing author she is. I originally wasn't going to read this book because I was pretty over the whole "teen drama" however, after reading the description I realized that it was the sequel to "triangle" it was the

Kids point of view instead of the mothers. So well written and heart felt. This was truly a good listen. I recommend this for every!
