Genres: Arts & Entertainment, Celebrity Bios
    Publisher's Summary:
After a decade starring for the St. Louis Cardinals, Albert Pujols is already compared with names in the highest reaches of baseballs pantheon: Ruth, Gehrig, Aaron, Mays. Slugging his way toward the Hall of Fame, Pujols has raised the games standard for greatness almost beyond any statistical measure. But the standard by which Pujols measures himself has less to do with baseball performance than with honoring God and exemplifying his faith for the millions who follow him. From his birthplace in the Dominican Republic to his high-school days in Kansas City, from a single season in the minor leagues to the World Series and nine All-Star Games, Pujols has developed his immense talents on the baseball diamond, all the while focusing his directionand the direction of his familywith the belief that a greater purpose is behind every achievement.
Authors Scott Lamb and Tim Ellsworth spare no tale of this growing baseball legend, all the while accentuating the unseen hand of divine providence that has shaped the man Albert Pujols has become. Its a story that will inspire, and a reminder of the human quality behind superhuman achievement. A storystill in the makingof allowing Gods strength to guide one mans path to be the best his game has ever seen.

    Christian First, Baseball Second
Every young athlete would benefit from this great work. Not because it shows the glory of one man's journey through life but because it shows that not matter how many accolades, awards, notoriety, or money one receives, it is the establishment of a true relationship with Jesus Christ that will propel one to the top.
The authors do a great job in detailing his humble starts in a small shack in the Dominican Republic to a very successful foundation designed not for the glory of Albert, but the glory of God and what he wants Albert to do with his life. Many times we will get caught up with the numbers he constantly pounds out each year and think to ourselves, "Wow, I wish I could do that." but like a yo-yo Albert pulls you back to his foundation; a relationship with God. Albert and his wife Dede constantly remind everyone that winning the MVP or the World Series is just a stat. It does not define tehm but rather helps them in their quest of helping others as their savior did.
I found myself rethinking my own commitment to Jesus. I fail miserably in that area compared to Albert and his family. But after reading the book I didn'tt just learn about the Baseball player Albert Pujols, I learned about the man Albert Pujols and if I was in a room discussing my weak faith, I believe he would pull me aside and tell me it's never too late to start again. Jeff let's pray together.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a book packed with statistics and achievements for one player's career, this is for you. But more important if you are looking for a book which truly shows how God and Jesus Christ can work in your life, this is a must read. Albert mentions it a few times when asked about being inducted into the Hall of Fame after he hangs up his cleats, he would gladly accept the honor but more important the real Hall of Fame he is seeking is the one his Lord is preparing for him.
    For Christians and Baseball Fans!
Albert Pujols is a phenom. 10 years into his career he has already broken the 400 mark in homers, he has driven in more than 1200 runs and has maintained a batting average of .331.

    Publisher's Summary:
Number-one New York Times best-selling author/filmmaker Ian Halperin exposes astonishing secrets about this mystifying figure, who became the worlds biggest entertainer!
In late December 2008, Ian Halperin told the world that Michael Jackson had only six months to live. His investigation into Jackson`s failing health made headlines around the globe. Six months and a day later, the King of Pop was dead.
It was greed that killed Michael Jackson. Friends and associates paint a tragic picture of the last years and days of his life, as Jackson made desperate attempts to prepare for a planned concert series at London's 02 Arena in July 2009. These shows would have earned millions for the singer and his entourage, but he could never have completed them, not mentally and not physically. Michael knew it, and his advisers knew it. Anyone who caught even a fleeting glimpse of the frail 50-year-old hiding beneath the costumes and cosmetics would have understood that the London tour was madness. Why did it happen this way?
After an intense five-year investigation, New York Times best-selling author Ian Halperin uncovers the real story of Michael Jacksons final years, a suspenseful and surprising thriller. Halperin strips away Michaels masks and gets to the truth! This investigation separates the sad truth from the multilayered lies and media distortions, as the world says goodbye to the King of Pop.
    Critic Reviews:
"Halperin comes to the story determined to hold to the truth, no matter where it leads him." (
    The Times of London)

    A wonderful insight
A fantastic insight into the crazy world of Michael Jackson!! Enjoyable read and would read again!
    Pure sensationalism.
Very disappointed. The author is a self confessed paparazzo and tabloid journalist, cashing in on the sensational and fictitious aspects of Jacksons life. He concludes with one final redeeming sentence: "It is time we put our suspicions to bed, and focus on the music".

    Title: Paul McCartney
    Author: Alan Clayson

    Release date: 10-28-10
    Publisher: Music Sales Corporation

Genres: Arts & Entertainment, Celebrity Bios
    Publisher's Summary:
When the most successful pop group in the world, The Beatles, disbanded in 1970, its four members went off to spearhead radically different projects, and none was more successful than Paul McCartney. Since those early days of freedom, McCartney has established himself as one of the most creative artists of his generation and a British show-business treasure.
Celebrating his four decades of unparalleled success, this abridged version of Paul McCartney is a multi-faceted account of one of the world's most fascinating musicians.
    Members Reviews:
    One Star
Trash. Disjointed and negative. Stay away macca fans.
    A contractual obligation
The author explains at the start of the book that he was obliged to write it as part of a contractual agreement to deliver seperat books on each of the fab four. He clearly has no empathy with McCartney and treats him as a run of the mill songwriter and performer with a knack for commerical success. The problem is that this renders any subsequent analysis half hearted and also leads him to write far more about McCartney collaboraters such as Denny Laine than of McCartney himself. So we never get under the skin of the artist nor come any closer to understanding the creative tension and impact of his music. I can only reccommend for the completist who wants to get a reference to secondary Macca sources.
    Paul McCartney by Alan Clayson
Is there any possibility of giving this book zero stars? What a
tedious and most forgettable read! I completely agree with the previous
customer comment; this book has more to do with the business peripheral
to Paul, not Paul. But in addition to that, Alan Clayson's writing style is
    absolutely torturous.
The entire book is composed of weak, endless, one-sentence paragraphs
that meander across perhaps five subjects, adding clause upon wandering
clause, dropping name over unknown name. By the end, you have no clue
what in the world you have just read. I had to read and re-read it
until I could decipher the text's meaning. Alan, do yourself a favor
and brush-up on your basic writing skills.
I learned more about Paul in one 45 minute interview with Larry King
than from this effort by Clayson. This book, unfortunately, is a
complete waste of time, and makes Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago"
feel like a light and happy read.

    Publisher's Summary:
Born in London, the young Peter moved to Northamptonshire where his father was a chauffeur and butler at the local manor house. Always a show-off, when he joined the local ladies for pantomime, it was hard to get him off stage. From early appearances at the Bristol Old Vic, Peter worked as an actor in the late 1970s and 1980s, starring in television comedies including Rising Damp, Only When I Laugh, Rumpole of the Bailey, The Bounder and Perfect Scoundrels. He has starred in The Prisoner, Space: 1999, Survivor, and The Avengers and played a key role in one of the most seminal films of the 1960s, Antonioni's Blowup. However it wasn't until the mid-1980s, when he co-starred with Penelope Keith in To the Manor Born, that he became a household name.
Funny, candid and warming in equal measure, Ask Me if I'm Happy is the very personal story of this inspiring and quintessentially British actor.

    Publisher's Summary:
Artistic profile of one of the 20th century's great choreographers. The literature on Balanchine is vast, but it is primarily biographical. Balanchine Variations is the first book to concentrate on the ballets themselves, providing critical analysis and detailed descriptions of what the dancers actually do.
Beginning with Apollo (1928), Balanchine's first extant work, and ending with one of his last ballets, Ballo della Regina (1978), Nancy Goldner offers detailed insights into more than 20 individual ballets. Based on lectures given across the United States, under the auspices of the Balanchine Foundation, they are intended to illuminate his art.
Goldner discusses the history of each ballet, places each in the context of Balanchine's life and sensibility. She also addresses his taste in music and whether his style can be considered particularly American.
The ballets Balanchine choreographed for the New York City Ballet are danced by companies around the world, and this innovative book is sure to become an indispensable guide to dancers and spectators alike. (Balanchine is a registered trademark of the George Balanchine Trust. The book is published by University Press of Florida.)
    Critic Reviews:
"Immensely - that's how much I enjoyed the walks through twenty-two of Balanchine's ballets on which Nancy Goldner took me! I look forward to strolling with her again whenever I'm about to go see one of her Balanchine ballets." (George Jackson)
"For the lay audience, this is an excellent introduction to watching Balanchine (and by extension ballet) guided by a thoughtful and articulate guide. For students of dance and balletomanes, it delves into details of craft, history and performance in a manner that elucidates as well as it entertains." (Rose Ann Thom)

To her millions of fans, Molly Ringwald will forever be 16. As the endearing and witty star of the beloved John Hughes classics Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink, Molly defined teenage angst, love, and heartbreak. Members Reviews:
    Not What I was Expecting
What I Loved: Molly narrated her own book and I think this works for this book. She has a good reading voice.
What I Liked: This book covers everything from dinner parties to lipstick. I can't think of a topic that she did not cover. In that aspect, this book delivered on it's promise to give you advice on how to handle anything. I also enjoyed when she threw in antidotes about her life over the years. Those little stories were the best part of the book.
What I thought was So-So/Didn't Like: I really wanted to love this book but most of it was "eh". I am not sure that most of her advice is good for everyday people. It is probably because I am not a fashionita. I do figure that I am not the main target audience for this book. It just seemed a little out of reach for most normal people.
Why I gave it a 2: I will admit that this is one of those books that will probably get ratings from bad to good because it really is more of a personal type of book. The advice either appeals to you or not. I love Molly Ringwald and feel like this book will appeal to other people. It just didn't work for me.
Who I would recommend it too: Anyone who likes non-fiction advice books on beauty, travel, wine, and cooking.
    Love Molly!
Would you consider the audio edition of Getting the Pretty Back to be better than the print version?
I did like having Molly Ringwald narrate the story. It was great to hear it exactly as she meant it to be heard.
What did you like best about this story?
Many of the stories were very relatable to my life.
What does Molly Ringwald bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Her tone and inflection truly meant that you heard the story from her perspective.

    Title: Paul and Me

    Narrator: A. E. Hotchner
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 19 mins

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 21 votes
Genres: Arts & Entertainment, Celebrity Bios
    Publisher's Summary:
Best-selling author A. E. Hotchner's intimate account of his 52-year friendship with his pal Paul Newman.
Here, Hotchner presents a complicated, unpredictable, fun-loving, talented man, and takes the listener along on their adventures. The pair traveled extensively, skippered a succession of bizarre boats, confounded the business world, scored triumphs on the stage, and sustained their friendship through good times and bad. Most notably, they started Newman's Own as a prank and watched it morph into a major enterprise that has given its $260 million in profit to charities, including the Hole in the Wall Camps worldwide, dedicated to helping thousands of children with life-threatening illnesses.
This is the story of an unusual bond and a tribute to the acclaimed actor who gave to the world as much as the world gave him.
    Members Reviews:
    The Color of Friendship
A.E. Hotchner's memoir of Paul Newman is an eloquent tribute to the man and artist, written with grace, modesty, and wit. Decades ago, Hotchner wrote "Papa Hemingway," one of my all-time favorite memoirs. While Papa Hemingway traced an ominous arc--you knew Hemingway was headed for self-destruction-- Paul and Me follows an almost joyous trajectory, from Newmans ascent in Hollywood to his unlikely successes as champion race car driver, food icon, and philanthropist. (The glaring exception is the tragic death of Newmans son, Scott.)
The book is packed with anecdotes that portray Newman as feisty, fun-loving, and complex. As he did with Hemingway, Hotchner personifies for Newman both Sancho Panza (the sidekick) and Boswell (the memorist). But he goes them one betterhe plays a vital role in helping Newman turn popcorn dreams into business and philanthropy realities.
Although Hotchner never states it, his friendship seems to represent an anchor to Newmans sail--a needed stabling influence. Its easy to think how lucky Hotchner has been to pal around with Hemingway and Newman, but one ends Paul and Me thinking this as wellhow lucky they were to have him as a friend.
Great book on Paul Newman's personal life
I enjoyed listening to this book, and was fascinated with their close relationship. The author reading it made it more personal, although his voice was sometimes distracting. A great audiobook on how Newman's Own and the Whole in the Wall camp was created.
    Endearing story
A nice follow-up to "Paul Newman - A Life". A true tribute by a very close friend.
