Great insight into a public figure

The book gives much insight into the life as well as some of the aspects of the business life of Warren Buffett. It shows his very flawed life, his tumultuous relationship with his wife. He may be rich, but there are many aspects of his life many would never trade for his wealth. If you liked Steve Jobs Official biography, you will very much like this as well.The story of how he started getting involved in investing, is inspiring, and perhaps much good ideas can be used to develop our children in developing a sensible mindset. A candid review of his life. An entertaining read. You will end up having much sympathy and praise for Buffett after this read, and perhaps a better love of your own life.

Only for die-hard Buffet fans.

I've no doubt that the book is a well researched and reasonably accurate description of Warren Buffet's life, but ultimately it failed to entertain me and doesn't have sufficient detail to illuminate that much of the method behind his investment choices.

At least this version is mercifully abridged from the enormous length of the book upon which it's based. Only for die-hard Buffet fans.

Pretty decent, performed reasonably

A quite interesting story, performed reasonably well. As with a lot of biographies, it's a little sycophantic, only really touching on tragedy towards the end. Average amount of detail regarding the different large details he put in over time. More interesting however, if you're into finance or business.

Amazing a must read or listen on Audio

Absolutely loved it, very inspiring and educational. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested into stocks.

Book or Cliff Notes?

The old adage, "You get what you pay for," could easily use this biography of Henry Ford as an explicit example. I read the enitre thing, the section dedicated to the life of Ford, in less than an hour. That part of the book constituted approximately seventy-five percent of its content. The remainder, page after page of references and alternative sources of more information on Henry Ford, made up the remaining twenty-five percent.

Perhaps I wasn't observent enough when I purchsed my Kindle edition. Somewhere in the description it may have said that this "book" was the sparest of outlines. My intent was to settle in for a good long, in-depth read about an exceptional man in the history of the automobile industry. Instead of a four-course meal for the mind, I got a glimpse at the menu, without even being seated.

Henry Ford - One of the men who made America

I purchased this book for my Kindle and felt that it it gave an adequate description of one of the game changers in the United States as well as the world at large. The way that he changed the life of the common man to have mobility and move around as well as his changes to the way that goods (automobile) were manufactured were revolutionary for the time. Whether you like or hate the man there can be no question that he changed the world forever. I encourage everyone to learn about Henry Ford. I intend to purchase or find an even more detailed reading of his life and accomplishments.

A nice overview of the man

This "book" is only one chapter of a previous book by the same author!!!

Not really worth buying... Just get the earlier book by Daniel Alef. "The road well travelled, a history of the American automobile pioneers " and you will find this as a chapter word for word! It certainly does not cover the story of these two extraordinary brothers in any depth at all!

Much appreciated factual information, well researched and written.

An amazing story of two brothers and their incredible contributions to the early automobile industry. There probably would be no Ford Motor Company today, without the genius of these pioneers. The landscape of the industry would be very different today had the brothers not succumbed to the flu pandemic in 1920.

A business bio from a back seat perspective

Although this book follows the typical business biography format (e.g. I was born here, I did this, I accomplished that) it stands above many others in that Caan comes across as a sincere, grounded, like-able guy and offers some insight into his motivations, hopes and worries. His willingness explore the conflict between his own aspirations and those of his father is refreshing and make his story personal. For much of the book the story is not rushed and you gain some real perspective on his experience but the exceptions to that are significant. The most notable examples are the lack of detail dedicated to his two most break-through and career changing events. Sure, once somebody has achieved success and wealth it is interesting to learn how they think and what they do when they are on top of their game, but more focus on the defining moments that lead to the success would have taken this book from pretty good to a must read. He could have chosen to let the reader experience the leap of faith that every first time entrepreneur takes while sharing the set backs as well the first taste of success. Instead of doing that Caan goes from a 19 year old high school drop out who stumbles into a recruiting job to the manager in charge at the flag ship location of one of Brittans most renown recruiting companies in about 1 page. He repeats this mistake in the section about opening his first business. Here, the time between using a personal credit card to fund the start up of his clothing store and realizing enough profit to purchase an outrageous home and open a second location seem to pass with just a brief mention about learning the difference between capital and cash flow. All said, this is a good read especially for entrepreneurs hoping to find motivation in the story of a self-made gazillonaire.

Excellent book

It's weird that a business book could be so personal and emotional. I found his life just fascinating and full of good business lessons.

the best book of the year

I am a 8 years audible fan. The book was recommended through the algorithm of what I should like. I purchased it and i was so pleasantly surprised. James Caan career and life story as of today is so well written, the audio is fabulous. He does a fantastic job at story telling. I didn't even know of him prior to this book. the book is entertaining, educating, stimulating.

Buyer Beware: Not an English language book

I downloaded this book thinking that I will be hearing a book in English language about Ambani only to discover that the book is read in a non-English language. Unless you are a fluent Indian language speaker, don't waste your money. Message to Audible: since you are now selling non-English language books, kindly highlight the language of each Audible book so that long time Audible customers (6 yrs) like myself don't get disappointed.

Edmund McIlhenny decided he could make a pepper sauce as good as Marsh's pepper sauce

I have very little to add to the many reviews that have been written. This is a fascinating book to read how a six square island that a local Indian tribe considered taboo and would not go on Petit Anse the name of the Island. Then Elizabeth Triett moved on the island followed by John Marsh who moved his slaves from Baltimore. Edmond McIlhenny was a financial lender who bought the island from Elizabeth Triett saved some seed from imported Mexican Tabasco peppers and began growing peppers on the island. Edmund McIlhenny decided he could make a pepper sauce as good as Marsh's pepper sauce. Marsh had died and left no recipe a few years back. Edmund used slaves to grow the peppers and to pick the fruit until the Civil War. Edmund dug a hole and six feet down hit a solid block of salt that was endless. This was a blessing since salt is used in making Tabasco sauce, and he sold the extra salt that was mined. The Northern army came and took over the salt mine and Edmund left and returned after the war. He rebuilt his Tabasco plant and hired former slaves to grow his peppers and did an excellent marketing job of selling his Tabasco sauce. The book brings the reader up until recent time. It is indeed an interesting read.

A lukewarm tale of a Hot Sauce

Tabasco is made from Mexican peppers. The creator of the hot sauce seems in doubt but Mr. Mcilhenny , a banker from Baltimore saw the possibilities in the fiery sauce. New Orleans was the perfect place to develop it -seafood lovers liked it right away. The history of how the Mcilhenny's expanded the hot sauce nationally and then around the world is interesting. The inspired idea to market Tabasco as a premium product helped it capture more than sixty per cent of the market. Profits followed.

The founder decreed that his all descendants would share in Tabasco's success. As a result a family member has run the business since the 1870s with one exception. The activities of the Mcilhennys are reported by the author and don't reflect well on some members of the family. Ultimately the writer comes to view the insular uncharitable legacy of the family as the defining quality of the clan.

There are now over two hundred owners of the Tabasco firm. How much longer the world's biggest hot sauce company can remain independent and family owned is an open question. There are compelling interludes in the book but not enough to make the tale memorable.

Very good read.

Bought this book years ago and just came across it again while... you guessed it.... looking at Tabasco sauces and products.
