    A great confidence buster
Kathy Archer's book on Mastering Confidence guides you through the process of retraining your mind with her inner guidance cycle. when I began reading the book I immediately had to deal with my own fears and insecurities.
It was so helpful to me as I worked through the book and exercises that Kathy has also shared in my struggles and was able to provide personal examples and situations that I have also experienced in my life.
The book takes you on a journey to learn who you are and why you value certain things in your life that I found interesting.
Very encouraging and positive. I find that it is so relevant to me that now I want to go back and re-read the book and work on the exercises at a slower pace.
I recommend this book to everyone.

    Helpful, but nothing groundbreaking
Good content, but some sections were unnecessary or repetitive (such as the section on technology). The role-playing was helpful, especially when the same situation was approached from different points of view, but sometimes the author busy left it to the reader to finish the role playing which didn't really work.

Title: Lead Right for Your Company's Type
Subtitle: How to Connect Your Culture with Your Customer Promise
    Author: William E. Schneider
    Narrator: Tom Parks
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-29-17
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
From turf wars to low morale, most companies attempt to cure what ails them with the latest management fad - and fail. They are treating the symptoms while ignoring the true problem.
Success starts with knowing the kind of business you're really in. Lead Right for Your Company's Type argues that every enterprise falls into one of four categories as dictated by their customer promise: customized (e.g. ad agency), predictable and dependable (e.g utility company), benevolent (e.g. educational institution), and best in class (e.g. high-tech company like Apple). When leadership practices fit the customer promise and company type, the organization thrives. But apply the wrong practices and the mismatch pulls the enterprise apart. Example after example exposes the fallout:
Insightful and practical, the book's proven tools and five-step process will help you diagnose your organization's ills - and stop them at their source.
    Members Reviews:
This book is a valuable addition to the library of any mindful executive, manager, or organization development professional.
For those who would better understand how to deliver on their organization's customer promise, this is a book that will offer examples based on experience and insights earned over thirty-five years (E.g., The book also includes an appendix of validated assessment tools that have been used by over fifty-seven enterprises). Through the shared examples, the author explains how the customer promise is a "determiner" for both culture and the right leadership approach. A major insight revealed through the examples and diagnostics is how, over time, culture takes form by what is required to deliver on the customer promise for the given type of enterprise. According to the author, the term culture should not be confused with a compilation of peoples' values. Rather, the differences in types of culture and enterprise are critical to clearly understand when leaders go about setting direction, gathering commitment, and building business capability. The author discusses the four basic types of enterprise, defining in detail the customer promise for each one as well as their dynamic and evolving nature. I highly recommend this book. Dan Guenther
    Great Book
I rarely write reviews, but this book is exceptional and so packed with useful information and insight for business owners (or anyone contemplating starting a business) I wanted to share my thoughts. The premise is pretty simple -- different types of businesses require different leadership approaches and management skills. And while that makes intuitive sense to most business owners, it's easy to overlook. In fact, most business management and leadership books skip right past this looking for a one-size-fits-all leadership approach. The author does a superb job of drilling down into the different types of businesses and exploring what leadership approaches and management skills are most effective. It's very well written, with a wonderful blend of theory, practical application, and interesting examples. I own a business and have read many books on leadership and management topics. This is one of the few that really delivers value and provided me with some concrete ideas for improving our operations and my approach to leadership within our organization.
There is great value in understanding your business type.

  • Equal but Different: Women Leaders' Life Stories Audiobook by Judy Dlamini

Title: Equal but Different: Women Leaders' Life Stories
Subtitle: Overcoming Race, Gender & Social Class
    Author: Judy Dlamini
    Narrator: Malika Ndlovu
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 17 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-10-17
    Publisher: Audioshelf
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
"My interest in this area of study is based on my strong belief that people are born equal but different. It is a belief that equity across gender, race, social class and sexual orientation will be attained in my lifetime."
Equal but Different is based on my doctoral thesis, which investigated the intersection of race, gender, and social class in women leaders' career progression. The women leaders came up with strategies for gender transformation at leadership level. The audiobook presents life stories of women leaders in South Africa and abroad and men who believe in gender equality and have contributed toward this goal. The common thread across the life stories of women who contributed to the audiobook are:
This audiobook is relevant for people across gender, race, and social class who want advice on personal strategies and tactics to succeed; leaders who want to be inclusive, with an empowerment agenda for minorities; mentors across gender; and corporate and government leaders who are committed to transformation.
    Critic Reviews:
"Equal but Different arrives at a very critical juncture in the continuing conversation about the status of women in leadership. The stories of struggles, resilience, and triumph shared by the women in this book reinforce my hope that South Africa will be the nation that offers the world a lesson on how to create a truly equal society. But, as all the women in the book state, it will take structural interventions from all sectors of society as well as leadership from all members of society." (Professor Stella M Nkomo - Outstanding Woman Scientist Award Recipient & A-Rated Researcher)
"Equal but Different reminds us that the journey of every woman began long before her birth. The statistics of marginalized women provide evidence for the intersection of race, class, and socialization. This alongside the narratives provide evidence of lived experiences in a society that is stratified on a multitude of levels. The greatest that Dlamini gives to all women is the way in which she captured the reality of what it means to be equal but different in a post-apartheid society." (Dr Mariam Seedat Khan, VP, Clinical Sociology Programmes, University of Kwazulu Natal)
"The book's brilliance is that while it is based on a doctoral thesis and tackles a complex issue, it is much more than a dry, academic treatise but an eye-opening exposition that describes the issue from many different women leaders' perspectives. The inspirational narratives of the professional journeys of Dr. Dlamini and that of the women leaders she interviewed can be used as a practical tool to inspire the youth, especially young women and girls, and as an activist's manual or workbook for the advancement of gender equality in all spheres of life for the good of our country, continent and the entire globe." (Mazwi Xaba, editor, Sunday Tribune)
