Title: How to Meet a Project Deadline with Scrum in 7 Simple Steps for the Business, Agile Project Manager, Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Development Team
    Author: Paul VII
    Narrator: Kevin Kollins

    Publisher: MR P B ASHUN
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
The scrum framework is a simple framework for delivering projects. Although it is targeted towards complex projects, its principles can be used to ensure that any project or task is delivered on time. In scrum, delivering a project "on-time" means that those involved commit to and deliver a set of features by the end of a defined period called a sprint. When the product owner is happy that enough "sprints-worth" of features have been delivered he or she can make a decision to release the product. Delivering on commitments regularly gives confidence that a release is on track.
The challenge in delivering each sprint "on-time" comes from the fact that each team and individual comes with their own characteristics and each sprint comes with its own challenges. Therefore, there is a high degree of unpredictability involved in meeting sprint commitments.

    Publisher's Summary:
Let me whet your appetite for where this book will take you and your business. What I am going to share with you is not mere theory but a real-world approach to take your business to a superior level. This is not new information, but we tend to forget it. So here you'll find a step-by-step blueprint, presented in an attention-getting way, to assist you in implementing the leadership code successfully.
The core message of this book centers around three essential themes: leadership, people, and values. Consider the following in terms of these three themes. Leadership: many CEOs and managers attempt to lead a business instead of leading people. This is a fundamental flaw of business leadership. Effective leaders lead from values and provide a clear vision and mission for the organization. People: organizations that focus first on people have the best results. Companies with high levels of employee engagement are more productive, perform better financially, and boast higher customer and employee retention rates. Values: values define the identity and character of the company. Core values are the primary recruiting, evaluating and retention tools of an organization.
This people-centric, values-focused theme represents the core message of this book. I'm excited to share with you our experiences and stories that illustrate this message and the successful results achieved. Results you, too, can attain! Many good books have been written about leadership, people, and values. This book takes those raw materials and provides you with a strategy for perpetual success. We have broken the "leadership code" and present it here, for you, in this highly practical guide.

Turning commonsense leadership into common practice
There's an old saying something to the effect of, "the only problem with commonsense is that it doesn't result in common practice." Well, AJ Slivinski has solved that problem in The Leadership Code. The book is grounded in theory, practice, and experience. AJ knows of what he writes and writes about what he knows.
AJ is speaking my language when he encourages people-first and values-based leadership. Yet neither of these (people-first or values-based) are a guise for sloppy leadership with no accountability. In The Leadership Code, AJ shows how to create systems that promote excellence and embrace a philosophy of taking care of your people and honoring your values.
On top of that, he shares the tools he uses to accomplish all of this.
My recommendation, buy it, read it, do it.
The Leadership Code by AJ Slivinski---A 'Top 10' professional resource for your business library
The Leadership Code a new publication by author AJ Slivinski; provides a succinct and solid foundational message grounded with strong research and practical first hand experiences. Focusing on the areas of: leadership, people, and values, his message resonates how each of these three areas have a strong interdependence for success in business leadership. The reader acquires very quickly the passion/praise and respect the author has had for himself through his career path whether in an individual contributor role or leader; however more so how he âwalks the talkâ placing his team members first and foremost as the key âingredientâ to success in business.

    Title: The Engaged Leader
Subtitle: A Strategy for Digital Leadership
    Author: Charlene Li
    Narrator: Sean Pratt
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 43 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-27-15
    Publisher: Gildan Media, LLC
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
NYT and WSJ best-selling author Charlene Li guides business leaders deeper than ever before into the uncomfortable and ever-changing terrain of the digital era. Technology has revolutionized the very idea and nature of relationships between leaders and their followers. Yet many leaders remain stuck at arms length from those they lead and serve, relying on specialized teams to interact with customers, on their direct reports to keep tabs on how employees are doing, and on the digital natives in their organization to stay abreast of new technologies.
Now, in The Engaged Leader: A Strategy for Your Digital Transformation, Li helps leaders adapt to the demands and opportunities of digital leadership. To be a true digital leader requires a metamorphosis: You must connect directly by listening, sharing, and engaging using digital technologies. This metamorphosis is not easy, comfortable, or painless - if your palms aren't sweaty or your stomach isn't churning, then you probably aren't really practicing digital leadership.
The Engaged Leader addresses why leaders need to master a new way of developing relationships, which begins by stepping out of traditional hierarchies; how to listen at scale, share to shape, and engage to transform; the art of making this transformative mind shift; and the science of applying the right tools to meet your strategic goals. This transformation is not optional. Those who choose not to make this change will be abandoned for those who inspire people to follow them.
The Engaged Leader provides leaders with the skills and confidence they need to transform their leadership, and in turn, their organizations. The Engaged Leader also provides guidance to institutions - businesses, communities, and schools - on how to develop and nurture digital leadership. It is a must-listen for anyone who values a deeper connection between leaders and those they serve.
    Critic Reviews:
"Charlene Li practices what she teaches in The Engaged Leader: She is a master at listening, sharing, and engaging. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to develop connections that enable innovative ideas to emerge." (Beth Comstock, chief marketing officer, GE)

  • Hidden Strengths Audiobook by Milo Sindell, Thuy Sindell

    Title: Hidden Strengths
Subtitle: Unleashing the Crucial Leadership Skills You Already Have

    Narrator: Caroline Miller
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 16 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-25-15
    Publisher: Berrett-Koehler Publishers
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
Books like StrengthsFinder 2.0 have helped leaders discover their strengths - but they stop there. The Sindells argue that focusing only on your best abilities neglects a vital development opportunity. They show how to identify hidden strengths that can be quickly elevated into full strengths with attention and focus.
Working mainly on your strengths can ultimately make you weaker, they argue. You need to continually add new skills, not rely on what you're already good at. And while most people assume that means they should try to turn their weaknesses into usable skills, the Sindells say that it takes too much time and effort: The ROI just isn't there. It's in the neglected middle skills, neither strengths nor weaknesses, that the most potent development opportunities lie. They're close enough to being strengths that putting your energy there can offer a powerful payoff.
Using assessments, exercises, and case studies, the Sindells help you identify your most promising middle skills and create a plan to turn them into strengths. In today's work environment, not growing and stretching yourself translates into lack of innovation, stagnation, and obsolescence. Relying upon strengths is like relying upon training wheels. At a certain point you need to take them off in order to improve and grow.

    A metamorphosis of sorts
Thuy Sindell, President of Skyline Group's Coaching Division and an Executive Coach, and Milo Sindell is a Managing Partner at Skyline Group International and President of C4X, know their strengths and in this short but intense book they show that they wish to pass that state of mind on to the readers. Thuy's work has resulted in marked skill improvements as well as bottom-line impact. Milo has developed and launched a number of innovative productivity solutions Including cofounding Hit the Ground Running a pioneering employee performance software company in 2006. Together they show how to identify hidden strengths that can be quickly elevated into full strengths with attention and focus.
This book goes beyond most leadership self help books. Instead of focusing on strengths we recognize the Sindells instead help uncover middle (and lower) skills and teach us how to resurrect those hidden talents and skills into major assets.
They offer the four principles of hidden strengths: Leverage Your Traits and Develop Your Skills, The Middle is the Source for Development, Practice Practice Practice, and Always Be Working on Hidden Strengths. In a special chapter on Identifying natural strengths, hidden strengths and weaknesses the spell out 28 skills and group these into four categories: Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading the Organization, and Leading Implementation.
This is a book that is an eye opener in a time when employment is growing more scarce and more is required of each of us to not just survive but excel. A fresh approach to an ever present problem of self-improvement - by simply discovering and unleashing hidden skills within each of us. Grady Harp, May 15

    Brilliant
Opened my eyes to the many cultural and familial influences that can affect how you lead in the middle east. It also gave useful tips and strategies on how you could build effective relationships and trust in the region. The section on honor, shame, patriarchy and collectivism were very insightful, given my indovdiualistic, liberal western upbringing.
Relatable content if you live in the Middle East
I enjoyed the content as I could relate to most of it. The author could have elaborated a bit more in a couple of topics especially describing solutions to some problems encountered in the region.
Not much on Middle East, more on general leading
What disappointed you about 10 Tips for Leading in the Middle East?
It's very generalistic book in regards to Middle East.
Would you ever listen to anything by Dr. Tommy Weir again?
    may be
You didnt love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The book was ok in regards to topic of leading, but I would not put Middle East in the heading, since it provides very general and well-known knowledge on this region and is more focused on leading as such.

    Well-written, insightful, thought-provoking, and usable.
Dr. Johnson's book is well-written, insightful and thought-provoking. Most important, in this short work he provides very useful and applicable suggestions on how to ensure your company doesn't fail for lack of leadership. He uses, after providing brief summaries of, the often-cited general personality traits of the various generations (gen X, millenials, etc.), with a focus on how they relate to a person's proclivity to lead and/or be led. At the minimum, this book will leave you more well informed. Using its insights directly or merely as a stimulus to form your own plan, you have the opportunity to strengthen your company.

    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
There are many books on leadership. What the CEO Really Wants from You is one of the few to address the question that is uppermost in the mind of any manager: What he should be doing to make his or her boss his partner rather than his opponent. We spend most of our lives at work or thinking about it. Starting from a young age, fired by boundless energy and optimism, we launch into our careers sure of our abilities. Yet, things do not always turn out as we expect they would. It is not our abilities alone. The business environment is one of change and ambiguity. It is no easy task for any manager to negotiate the journey to success.
As Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, points out in his foreword, partnerships with others, but above all with your direct boss and organization, are more important than ever before. Not only that, a good boss has an instinct for the right people, and getting them to do better. A good manager, by eliciting his help, helps himself. Few people are better qualified to guide on this journey than R. Gopalakrishnan. He brings 45 years of experience to this subject in some of the most challenging jobs. In this immensely practical book informed by the wisdom he has gleaned over the years, he offers the listener the benefit of all he has learnt, summarized in the four As - Accomplishment, Affability, Advocacy, and Authenticity. This is a book that will be of immense use to any manager, and one that just might bring him the answers it takes years to find - what the CEO really expects from him.

    Amazing stories
Author narrates topics with stories. These stories are easy to remember and worth to remember. Problem is when he is narrating the story we are relating such characters from our life and experience we have dealt with. I would certainly spend some more time to listen to this book again for the characters which he is talking about. Very very informative.
