Read It and Roughhouse

Among the Llama Llama board books, this was far and away my son's favorite. He started showing an interest in particular books at around nine or ten months, and the physical actions described in this book made it very fun for us to read. The first page, for instance, is "hop". So I would "hop" my son on my lap, much to his squealing delight. Even before he was talking, he quickly learned to recognize the words and pictures of this book, and would clap when we turned to the "clap" page. He often wanted to read it several times in a row, and eventually we wore out our first copy and had to replace it. We wore out a board book. Really.

As with the other Dewdney books, the rhymes are cute and catchy, making it easy to catch and keep your little one's attention. The simplicity of the words makes it a good choice for early readers, but if your tot is a bit advanced on the language front, consider one of the hardcover Llama Llama books (longer, more complex words).

ending each time with a hug just like in the book

We checked this out at the public library, and my 5 month old son went crazy for it! I knew I had to buy it. We read it two or three times a day, ending each time with a hug just like in the book. When he is old enough to make the "tap," "clap," etc. movements, I think he will really enjoy that. Sturdy product; great price; simple words; predictable rhyme; easy to handle size--all make this perfect for baby and toddler.

My granddaughter LOVES this book. We do the actions together, my favorite is the big hug I get at the end when it says "big hug now"! She loves all the Llama Llama books (she is turning two years old) and I buy them for her when they become available. But this is probably her pick.

Yay for llama llama! We love these books and have so many of them! Theyâre so cute and some have great lessons to them. I highly recommend buying them

I purchased this book based on my daughter's reaction to other Llama Llama books. She absolutely loves them! The books are just about right as far as length for my three year old. They are able to hold her attention for the entire duration of the book. They are also fun and easy to read. We are just as satisfied with this book as we are the others.

pretty good

This was pretty good, well worth listening to. However, some key stories were left out, like Odin losing his eye and the death of Balder, both of which are important in the mythology. At times the production is a little melodramatic, but I am glad I got it.

Awesome Performance

Loved it. Narrator made this book even better than it already would have been on it's own if I'd have read it from it's pages. I've listened to 3 audio books of Norse mythology and this has been my favorite so far.

Great, reminds me of my childhood.

This is a fantastic audiobook, brilliant narration and equally great stories.

I used to have this audiobook on tape when I was younger and this brings back all the memories of long car journeys listening to the mischief of Loki and the other gods all trying to make things better.

Highly recommended, especially as an introduction to norse myths for young children.

Too Short but as Charming as the Other Books

I'm torn about how to review this book. I adore Stephen Fry's narration, and we all have loved the Paddington stories. I'd particularly recommend the other two that are available on Audible. I realize this comment may be unfair, but I didn't notice how short this one was when I bought it. The other two audios are over 2 hours long and this is like 13 minutes. So I wanted to warn any prospective purchasers who thought this was volume 3 of a wonderful series.

On the other hand, anyone who loves children's books on audio needs to listen to Paddington as read by Fry. I would just recommend the other 2 recordings.

A short story

Little better than a chapter from one of the other Paddington books. You are done with this before you really know that it's ending. Basically, Paddington and the Browns go to a community sports event with things from bicycle racing to knitting competitions (it's a British thing). As per the usual Paddington style, he makes a mess of things but wins out in the end. My biggest reason for marking this down both overall and the story is that it feels rushed like there are vignettes of things and the segues between the events aren't there. Then it's the almost full price of a book for what should be only short story. Still if you like Paddington stories and your family likes it, it's worth it to round out the collection that it currently available.
