Best of the Station Series, I liked all of them...

If you like Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr, and are into this Genre, this is for you. Noirish and rich in details. Not a Vince Flynn shootem up, action packed novel and not everyones thing though.

Loved my first read, loved listening to it even more!

This is such a fantastic debut. Mary Robinette Kowal's narration truly brings this book to life. So far this has been my favorite 2017 release!

This book is both relevant and electric.

Gorgeous at every turn, Donnelly' writing shines under the ministrations of Mary Robinette Kowal. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves debauchery, deco and deviousness.

A Remarkable German on Our Side

This is second book of the Black Orchestra series and every bit the equal of its predecessor. Kurt Mueller turns himself in to British authorities, risking his life doing so. Having escaped Germany with false papers, he would be tried as a spy or incarcerated for the remainder of the war. But knowing he was uniquely qualified to damage the Nazis he meant to persuade the British to use him as a spy.

The British warily agree to send him on a rescue mission, but early on its clear someone there wants him to fail. It's a great game of cat and mouse. He is aided again by division within the Germans which he understands more than any other.

The writing is wonderful and the narration matches it.

Fun sequel to The Black Orchestra

This was a fun sequel to The Black Orchestra! Lots of high adventure and tense twists and turns. It was a faster pace with less nuances than the first but a first rate spy romp to the last! Buy it!!

A reunion of old friends

If you are a long standing reader of the Sean Dillon series, this book was merely a light visit to the characters we have come to know over the years. Kind of like a visit to family at the holidays - enjoyable but not of any depth. The plot construction was noticeably devoid of the depth we have come to appreciate. If you are considering visiting the team at Holland Park please start with a previous volume.

terrible addition to the series

Can't truly explain how bad this book was. Very disappointing addition to the series. Nothing happens! Characters endlessly repeat their back stories. Skip this one.

Disappointing Sequel

After listening to all of the other books in the series, this one is very disappointing. The plot nor characters are very well developed, with the writer just seeming to go through the motions by moving quickly from one scene to the next and repeating the same phrases throughout.

Everything has gotten so formulaic

A game I now play when a new character is introduced is live or die? villian, her or or bystander? This is nothing like Thunder Point.

The Keystone Cops ultimately beat ISIS

Jack Higgins books are normally extraordinary. Well researched, carefully plotted and filled with twists and turns. Even the Sean Dillon series is one where each next book is eagerly awaited.

Until now.

"The Midnight Bell" doesn't toll for thee or for a good book either.

It's almost a Keystone Cops meet ISIS. The secret army bumbles its way through one thing after another that even the most green spy would figure out. The dialogue is really weak, but the most annoying aspect of the novel is the ISIS antagonist on his barge in the Parisian Seine.

ISIS or Al Queda, it's never clear which, seems to be able to get anybody's unlisted satellite phone and make untraceable calls.

Just end it

I wish the author would've killed off the main characters of the series would come to a close. This is the last book I listen to from the author.

Not nearly as good as previous books.

Three were far too many inconsistencies, plot holes and gloss overs. The entire story seemed rushed.

Just ok.

Story was predictable and lacked any depth. Would not recommend.

Jay Snyder is always a great narrator.

Read like a B movie... Predictable and no depth

Hardly a terror. just cliche. nothing more than one liners, shallow charters and irrelevant details...

Not the best of the series.

This was a series that started out great but with each episode had lacked more and more depth. Hope it picks up again because I really liked it in the beginning.

painful - Thank God it's over

The story could be told in about 2 hours vice 10. The beginning was interesting and engaging - all went downhill from there. Too many unimportant details and the number and frequency of analogies were ad nauseum.

Blatantly obvious that a woman wrote the story - some of the dialogue spoken by the men were utterly ridiculous and added an element of unbelievability to the already droning - long drawn out story. We actually couldn't stand another word after the climax and stopped short of the ending.

All I can say is Thank God it's over.

Disappointing

I have waited so long to come out. It was not worth the wait. This is such a disappointment. Peri spend most of the book screeching at people. Her comments are "I told you dont call me, don't say that or a threat to do them bodily harm" The best is"I will not let you get in my mind'

It reads like the author threw dices to decided which man Peri was going to like, love, hate or be in different to, it changed within minutes. Every man in the book is concern about her welfare and she can kick everyones ass.

There is more time spent on the highway picking up or dropping of drugs. She is so impulsive with her decisions. She has a strong character, instead of getting off the drug, so starts injecting herself. One minute she cannot stand Jack and the next she needs him to help. She knows he wants to get in her pants so she ends up bitching at him.

The best time is when Micheal goes psycho on his boss. He would take him to the brink of death and then drafted. The next best scene was when Peri was kicking ass in the first park of the book. I really wanted to like this book. There are a couple of new characters that I liked. I am a fan of Kim Harrison. But this falls way short from her usual stuff.

I only gave it 2 stars because they at least had drafts that were good.

Story is Hard to follow

I really enjoyed Kim Harrison's Hollows series but Peri Reed is just a little hard to follow.

A little better than the first

I had a difficult time liking the first book in this new series and only tried this second installment because I loved Harrison's previous series. Though I like the basic idea of drafting that underpins the new series, I don't much care for the actual story lines or the main characters.

In this follow up Peri is a bit more sympathetic and likeable, but I do get really sick of her rhapsodizing about how much she loves/misses expensive cars and clothes and such. And an adrenaline addiction isn't inherently more interesting than any other addiction just because it includes car chases and fight scenes. There needs to be more substance to this chronicle.

With the introduction of LB and his crew, this story became a bit more interesting, but most of the secondary characters are pretty flat, frequently inconsistent, or very predictable.
