If you enjoy stories like The King and I, "Aladdin", and 1,001 Arabian Nights, you'll adore this romance between a strong woman who won't give up on her ideals and a man whose kingly responsibilities have precluded true love...until now.
Kismet's Kiss is a two-time Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist and was nominated as Best Fantasy Romance and Best Debut of 2010 by The Romance Reviews.
In the desert realm of Kad, a deadly epidemic strikes the palace of Sultan Kuramos. Only a magical healer from an enemy land has the skill to save his royal household, but Kuramos never imagined the healer would be a woman.
Healer Varene finds her own surprises in Kad. She expects the sultan's arrogance, but not his courage, his selfless care of the ill, or the possibility the epidemic is the hex of a vengeful goddess.
Kuramos's culture condemns Varene's mystical talents. Her presence triggers an insurrection, yet as he and the healer toil for a cure, he loses his heart to her. She falls for him as well, but how can she relinquish her homeland and her principles? He already has a harem...and his family may be cursed.

    underwhelmed
This was the first audio book in a while that I had to force myself to finish. I never managed to get caught up in the story.
    Excellent Listen!
Kismets Kiss takes the best of the romance and fantasy genres and mixes them up into one incredibly unique and entertaining story. Varene, is the royal healer of Teganne, a nation on tenuous terms with the land of Kadwhere Kuramos is the Sultanand when these two meet cultures clash while feelings begrudgingly grow.
To me the essence of a fantasy novel lies in its world building, a carefully constructed world is something easily recognized and appreciated. I will say I didnt expect that from Kismets Kiss, and Im currently shaming myself for writing this off as just another romance. The world building is woven into the fabric of the story itself, and I actually really loved finding out new tidbits about the countries of Kad and Teganne as well as the intricacies of their cultures. And with those cultures comes culture clashes, which play a big role in both the ruling of Kad and the relationship that Kuramos and Varene have together. Political aspects are discussed, and not brushed off as light topics, but instead become actual topics that the character think upon and discuss. I will say the timeline is a short one, oddly short actually, but the pacing of the story actually offsets it quite well and you dont even realize it really until someone says how much time has passed.
Varene and Kuramos has a very interesting dynamic, because from the very beginning their differences are the wall between them. Kuramos has six wives, and this becomes a constant point of tension for Varene who has never entertained the idea of anything other than monogamy. But their head butting isnt just contained to the moral ambiguity of their relationship, they frequently are forced to stop and think about their own belief systems and political differences. They challenge each other on these things, and it makes their relationship stronger but more importantly these issues dont fall by the way side simply because they grow to love each other but stay a point of interest through out the entire novel. Now add in the amazing group of side characters, and you have a complete win.

CJ's father, Charles Webber, had been a real bastard all her life. And when her mom died he'd told her that without Becky there to make him acknowledge CJ as his daughter, he was finished with her and she was never to darken his door again. The slap that bloodied her mouth at her mom's funeral had been more than enough to make his point. So she didn't, not even to come home to his funeral.
Austin Force wanted the property that the prick Webber owned. He wanted it for his pack and the house for his mom to call hers. But Webber dying had him dancing a jig and contacting the lawyer to make an offer. But finding that the man had a daughter and that she was his mate had Austin at his wits end.
Austin didn't want to be impressed by her. He didn't want to like her. He wanted her to obey him, whelp a few pups so she wouldn't be bored and run his house for him. CJ wanted to do as she please which included maybe murdering the Alpha in his sleep. The two of them coming together is wonderfully steamy and sarcastic wit. Austin and CJ will make great alpha's...or will they?

    Good Book
This was a good read/listen and but not the best. I liked the way the author was going with the story but it could have been better. Worth getting though. The lady reading the book did well but that could have been a bit better also but over all I will listen to other books she reads. The part I hated the most was the annoying snipit of music played in between chapters. That was awful and quite . . . distasteful! The book was entertaining though but no more then a 4 star or maybe a 3.5 with that music.
    A nice surprise...
I was a little sceptic when I bought this book, but I found that I really liked it. Mainly because CJ is a real hard-ass and don't take crap from anybody.
This is a good story mixed with a dominant alpha male, romance, action and some hot and sexy scenes.
I think the narrator did an ok job, but not one of my favorite.
If you like shifter stories with dominant alpha males and strong kick-ass females, then you would definitely like this one. This is certainly worth the credit.
    Pretty good
I like the story line and I really liked CJ. The story had a little mystery mixed in with the erotica, a very little mystery. lol A little bit more dedicated to the climax of the mystery would have added more depth to the story, but overall I enjoyed the story.
The recording had an echo at the beginning and there where several places where you could hear Liona Gem swallowing. But I liked her voices, male and female.
    Overall worth it! :)
    Decent story & narrator
Would you consider the audio edition of Force of Nature to be better than the print version?
Maybe, it depends on how critical one is. There is music between the chapters. Nice guitar music, and not long, but slightly annoying.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Force of Nature?
I like the packs Mom, and the "hero" character seriously lacks clues.

I'm afraid it just didn't catch me in it's spell !
Firstly, I hadn't know that this is actually book 2 of the Portal trilogy - book 1 is Mark of the Witch, this is book 2 followed by Blood of the Sorceress (not yet released).
I usually like M.S.'s work but I found this book to be so frustrating, it's one of those listens that'll have you pulling your hair out over whilst screaming "can you really be sooo stupid!" - the female character Lena was always thinking "oh I'm sure I saw it.... but I must have just been dreaming it/hallucinating it/imagining it" over and over again. It started off well - woman (whose also a witch) falls in love/accidentally gets pregnant/doesn't want to share news with boyfriend/runs out on him/meets him again 7 months later after a tragedy/he moves in wanting to bond...... then it goes downhill from there.
The narration didn't help any and I felt like Lena sounded and acted very young, naive and gullible and this could easily be a YA book - no real romance and definitely no sex. It didn't have the feel of an Adult book and it's made me very unsure of any of Ms Shayne's other books.
Worth a credit? In my opinion no, nor the $ if you wanted to buy it and I won't be going back to listen to book 1 nor will I eagerly anticipate book 3's release - so that shows you just how uninterested I am.

    BoringZZZZZZZZZzzzzz....
Would you try another book from P.C. Cast and Gena Showalter and/or Isabelle Gordon and Liz Chastain ?
I love Gena Showalter that's why I got this book, but I don't think this is one of Gena's or P.C. Cast's best work. I regret wasting a credit on such a terrible book.
What could P.C. Cast and Gena Showalter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I'm not sure??? Maybe hit the delete key and try to write it all over again.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Isabelle Gordon and Liz Chastain ?
The narrators are not the problem, they are actually good. It's the story that is the problem here. It's boring, it's missing something... you are left with an empty feeling/wanting more from the story.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    not at all.
    Two Dark ghost stories
What would have made After Moonrise better?
these were very dark stories. Yes some humor dropped in, but the over all editing made it just too Dark. Paranormal story, but oh so dark.
What could P.C. Cast and Gena Showalter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I buy Isabelle Gordon recordings. Her story,Showalter, Ok,but Liz Chastain, AKA ?? was awful. her story, maybe could have be ok if Isabelle read both. Waste of my listening time!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Liz Chastain is an AKA, as I have listen before under another name. Just awful, not sure what it is that she can learn to be better. Her men voices OK, but her female voice just is not good.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
happy endings, but so what, it is at the end so you feel drained and not entertained.

    Hot mess of a heroine
As far as UF goes, this series has been pretty weak. The heroine is a bit of a hot mess despite her ever growing super powers, the mythology is clugy at best, and the books are short on plot. I am not sure that I would say this book even has a complete plot. It sort of ties things up, but not really. Not to mention, that the tiny bit of resolution seems to come out of nowhere.
The relationships are about the same. The first book zoomed head long into romantic triangle and then a love connection, followed by a love disconnection. In this book, the heroine (view spoiler) And what the heck with Jack? (view spoiler)
Why should this surprise me? I mean, the mythology seems to constantly contradict itself. This power is inherited. Well, no its not, it is actually created. But, it is still kind of inherited after all. And, only dragons can do this one thing. Well, dragons, and demented, bigoted super villains. But it is okay, because soon Morgan will have every known special power in the universe. Thank goodness she doesn't have enough brain cells to rub together to make her a serious threat.
Good read, not great but good
this one did not make me want to stay up all night like some others, but it was a good story. A little predictable, but I still liked the story so much and wanted to see what would happen next to the main character that I got the next book in the series. So I would say I was not board and it was a credit well spent.
    Next Step
Kissed by Fire starts off where Kissed by Darkness ended. I suggest readers listen to book 1 first. I like the characters: each with his or her own idiosyncrasies and personality. I like that the story is not predictable. Morgan continues to develop new talents. We learn more about both Morgan's and Kabita's interesting families.
    Really Like This Series
Well written, lots of action and intrigue. Twists and turns keep you guessing right up to the end.
    cheesy but good
Everything was well done and follows the "Kissed by" stories. I liked it and will continue to listen to the others. I also found it cheesy and not appropriate for a younger audience.

    Members Reviews:
    Where's the Logic
The story was well written and it did not confuse me, but I couldn't agree with the logic. It seemed like the main female character was creating most of the trouble and yet she "didn't want trouble". If the main female character wanted the main male character to stay and govern and help her people, why did she allow him to be poisoned by arsenic through over 3/4ths of the book and then she gets upset when he thinks she was the one who did it. She didn't want to marry him so she hid herself with the servants, but she kept doing things to come to his attention. That's the problem with a lot of historical romances. If they are not written with some style and care, they tend to portray the female character as a dramatic ditz with very poor common sense and become bland, overdone, or just annoying.
    Just Daft
Fire Dance is a somewhat silly historical romance - with an emphasis on the romance since the history part is daft. Admittedly, I only made it half way through the Audible narration before the constant eye rolling was about to cause me vision loss. The funny thing is - I don't mind a bit of supernatural elements or alternate universe. But seriously, the plot has to at least be believable and with some modicum of attempt to put history in the historical - or just make it a straight fantasy.
Story: Melisande's sorcerer/lord father has died and the Normans are at the gate. She decides to impersonate a maid in order to avoid a forced marriage to the handsome and just knight Alain de Crency. But Alain needs to wed the daughter of the lord - even as he pursues the beautiful maid - little knowing that her hearsay could destroy all he is building.
So yes, this is a romance and if you don't look too closely at it, you may enjoy it. The dialogue, characters, etc. are all very modernized and clearly we have clean peasant (and knight) syndrome. As well, actions that should get characters beaten, raped, or murdered never seem to happen. About half way through the Audible version of this, I'd had enough with the stupidity of both Alain and Melisande. He was borderline incompetent as a knight (ok, seriously, how hard is it to find one girl of a certain age and description - knowing she is hiding from him - and not figure out it is the woman without calluses, well educated, and who talks back to him?).

    Over...noooo!
Would you consider the audio edition of Beauty Dates the Beast to be better than the print version?
    Didn't try it.
    Any additional comments?
I wasn't going to listen to the book, but everything is a little blah right now, so I gave it a try. The narrator was WONDERFUL and really performed the story (instead of reading it). I got so involved in the story and then it was over. I wouldn't say this is an intense read but a fun summer read. Bathsheba...what a name. The beginning was unpredictable and I didn't know what to think. Specifically, I didn't know who the hero was and who the villan was. Then the story moves into a romance with a murder mystery. It was kind of frustrating when B goes off to save her sister (who acts like a 13 yr old and not a 23 yr old) and didn't take a moment to call and double check that she was actually kidnapped. That is just as irritating as a victim getting into a car and not seeing the bad guy in the back seat in a horor movie. Why didn't you see that coming? Out of the entire book, running off was the most predictable part of the book.I think the ending was left open for a possible sequel which I will most definately get. I love fun reads. And PLEASE KEEP THE NARRATOR! Great production.
Great start to a new paranormal romance series
Midnight Liaisons is a Dating Agency for 'paranormals' and Bathsheba works in the office, that is until a VIP shifter client called Beau phones to complain that his date has cancelled but he desperately needs a woman and he likes the sound of Bathsheba. He won't take no for an answer so she is forced to go on her first date for 6 years with life changing consequences.
I really enjoyed this shape shifter romance novel that has blackmail, murder and interesting likeable and detestable characters. Yes, there were times where you say "don't run, trust him" and her baby sister was very 'needy' but I guess it's all part of the storyline.
Worth the credit? Yea, I'm happy - it was a good listen.
    Really Great Story!
Would you listen to Beauty Dates the Beast again? Why?
Yes, I would listen to Beauty Dates the Beast again. Well put together story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Beauty Dates the Beast?
    Picnic in the snow!
What about Leah Mallach???s performance did you like?
    She did an great job.
    Clich?? and Unimpressive
    Any additional comments?
I had a hard time finishing this book. The author tried to portray the main character Bathsheba as a strong will survivor but her actions didn???t fallow that line at all.

    Good story very credit worthy.
I love Michele Hauf's books and this one is no exception. It had a good storyline - Ridge an Alpha Shifter went to Las Vegas, saved Abigail, a witch, from burning at the stake, they celebrated by getting drunk and ended up getting married by Elvis. Unfortunately, he accidentally shifts into a wolf while consummating the marriage and she freaks out by blasting up the electrical appliances and wounding him in the process.
They don't speak for 12 years then he wants to find a new wife to increase the pack numbers which is dwindling so he finds Abigail to get a divorce. However, she's just received a phone call saying that her 13 year old son has been kidnapped and so she asks for his help in return for a divorce. Love is rekindled during the struggle to get her son back as they learn to trust each other again and some questions are answered.
Good romantic story with action between wolves, vampires and witches. Not a wasted credit.
    Dont waste your time
The story is awful. It's repetitive, there is almost no action. When there is a fight it's glossed over and summed up so that you can't even worry about what's happening to the main characters, because you have no doubt they will make it. It's boring. And it's predictable, obviously the child is his too. He is too dumb to even figure that out, and she keeps it a secret from him. The conversations are corny uninteresting. They just have the same conversation over and over in different ways. Ugh. I'm disgusted with it. If I had to hear that she was a bad witch one more time. I haven't finished the book. Maybe it gets better by the end. But I doubt it. Oh and also. He goes back and for between saying she did geld him and she nearly gelded him. Maybe the author should make up her mind.
Loved the premise, hated the execution
The reviews convinced me to try out this author - and the synopsis cinched it for me. I loved the idea: kidnapped child, desperate mother forced to ask her ex to aid in the rescue. But in listening, I quickly grew impatient while the hero and heroine had romantic, charming moments - too many moments - where the child was not on anybody's mind except mine. Made it through several hours, but finally gave up. Couldn't even finish this book.
    Awful
What disappointed you about The Werewolf's Wife?
This is one of the slowest moving stories I have every listened to. It seemed like the author is filling in events and giving detail when it isn't necessary.
