Everly must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to learn her biological identity - and deal with the unanticipated consequences of her decisions.

One of my favorites this year
In this story Everly is a biochemist in futuristic America. She was dropped at the cube as a baby and hasn't a clue about her family. Her best friend turns up pregnant which is against the rules. In this futuristic world the cube takes and keeps the babies. They, along with Everly's friend Wick escape the cube and take off into the world.
The world building was awesome. A great combination of author imagination and reality. The setting is Jacksonvill FL to Atlanta GA. As a Jacksonville resident for 20 years I applaud the author with her realistic yet futuristic descriptions of the area. I even wonder if she's from the area.
Every page is filled with action. In this world she created the Pragmatists run the country after a horrible flu killed most the population. The worst problem now are horrible locusts who travel in huge hoards and gobble all the vegetation. That's why the dome was created. As a biochemist Everly is developing a virus to destroy the locusts until she gets side-tracked and escapes tge cube finding so much more about the world than she knew. It's worse than she thought and danger lurks everywhere.
    Great Story!
Great characters in a post apocalyptic world. Their story is interesting with lots of action and twists. Im looking forward to the next one.
    Couldn't connect with characters
The book was well written, the story clear. I just couldnt connect with the characters. Im not sure if it was the author or the voice actor, but most of the characters felt generic, little detail given. The only emotional moment that I really felt was toward the end, when one main character dis-owned another. Beyond that, it hearkened to The Handmaids Tale in story, while feeling like any typical YA dystopia. More of an adventurous journey, there were no story elements or twists I did not see coming, few sci-fi/future elements that felt new or fresh.
    Really good start to series
    Any additional comments?
Really good start to a series. I was looking forward to this book and was not disappointed at all. The story starts off a little slow but within a few chapters it really takes off and is constantly moving with plenty of suspense, action and intrigue.

    Influence
I was given an Audible copy of this book by the narrator/author/publisher & chose to review it.
First of all, the narration was great! It was easy to listen to the book & keep track of the characters because of the different inflections that the narrator used. Without the talent of the narrator, this would have been a much less enjoyable book.
Maybe I am becoming a little jaded because of all of the dystopian YA books that I have read, but this book didn't really have anything new to offer. A bunch of kids with superhuman ability decides to take down the evil government. Throw in some unknown relatives & violence & you have just another dystopian tale. Even the name of the group is unoriginal: The Resistance.
We are never told what led to the different factions, how they came to power, or anything else about the cause of the evil. Not a bad book, but nothing really exciting.
    Great dystopian read
Would you consider the audio edition of Influence to be better than the print version?
I loved both. It's great to have the characters in your head come to life in the audio.
What other book might you compare Influence to and why?
Influence is similar to many other dystopian novels like Hunger Games, Divergent and Legend.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Not sure if I had a favorite scene but I loved the interactions between Amanda and Kaylin.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
If you could manipulate the reality of others, would you?
    Any additional comments?
Loved Influence and I highly recommend both the audio and print versions.
    Very nice story
Influenced has very interesting themes such as mine control, influencing people to do what you want.

    Great for a read aloud!
Even before I read Behar's entry in the back of the book that reveals that this is based on a real experience in Behar's life, I thought, "Wow! I love the way this story is written." The child in this story is a recent immigrant from Cuba. Behar wrote the book just like an intelligent recent immigrant would tell her story. I love the writing style of this story so much. I love the story itself. I love the lessons learned from the story. Just a beautiful, beautiful story.
Sweet story, less than stellar writing...
A lovely story, though the first person present tense narration slows the pace immensely. This is billed as the author's first book for a younger audience, and it shows. She seems to talk down a bit to her audience, forgetting that young adults have complex tastes and appreciate a well-written sentence.
Overall, I liked the story, but the writing could be better.

An exciting book for pre-teens and teens that they will enjoy
This book is written for pre-teens and teens, probably from age nine or ten upward. They will enjoy the book because of Richards' ability to develop interesting and fast moving plots with twists and turns, his aggressive writing style, and his skill in portraying characters with whom readers can identify easily. There are two intersecting plots. One focuses on two arms dealers, vicious killers, who want to get possession of a new weapon developed by the US government called "The Devil's Sword," because of its potency. They are certain that they can sell the weapon to rogue nations, such as Iran and North Korea, or even China, and get billions of dollars. They discover where the weapon is located, hire mercenaries to assist them, and rush to snatch it.
The second plot focuses on twelve-year-old Kevin, two years earlier. He is repeatedly harassed and mocked by his two older brothers because he still hasn't grown as tall as them and is not interested, as they are, in sports. But Kevin discovers fencing, takes lessons, and becomes very skilled in the sport. He meets two friends, a boy his own age and a girl a year older. Both are very good fencers, but not as good as Kevin. All three kids are very smart and are able to think and act quickly and decisively. Kevin also has skills in using Internet war games. Two years later, when Kevin is age 14, the two plots intersect and Kevin and his two pals' lives explode into an exciting drama.
Each of the chapters is introduced by a clever and true statement about war and struggles by important people, such as Winston Churchill. Publicity associated with the book states that many youngsters read the book, enjoyed it, and had difficulty putting it down. I believe that this publicity is telling the truth and I recommend the book for youngsters.

Improved so much since the first one
When I first listened to Red Queen I was 50/50 on the story but decided to keep listening to see where it ended up and honestly, I went from sorta hate listening to adoring this series. The acting, pace and characterisation improved ten fold, each character felt like new world views not just the same internal chatter inside a new skin like some books have. Im so glad I was able to continue on with the series and wish I have the next one to devour.
    Great Story!
The storyline was amazing and even some parts made me cry terribly. Loving this! Definitely something great to buy. Can't wait for the next book!
Love Amanda Dolan. Didn't need the others
I know this book was split into more than one characters perspective however, every time the person who narrated for Cameron it just made me want to skip! So droll and drawn out no wonder the book is 14hrs long compared to others in the series averaging at 9hrs!
Other than that great story and much praise for Amanda who narrates for mare (and does great accents to let you know who's speaking) and with great emotion and excitement, whoop. Can't wait for the next book
    wonderfully named
the continued saga is a wonderful and twisting narrative. characters are compelling. The change in the way the story is told has been jarring but splitting it between the 3 main driving characters does work well.
    Dull
honestly the first two thirds of this book are a chore, next to nothing happens and it's incredibly dull. it ends well but I don't think that it really makes up from the first two thirds slog

absolutely love the book ! Amanda Hocking has great stories. although the narration on this seemed a little dry to me almost like Siri was narrating it. she put a lot of emotion in the other characters voice except for the main one.

The Mother-Daughter Book Club says bon voyage to Concord and bonjour to France!
It's a dream come true for Megan, who's jet-setting to Paris for Fashion Week with Gigi. Meanwhile, back in Concord, Mrs. Wong decides to run for mayor, so Emma and Stewart team up to make her campaign a success. Jess and Cassidy are also hoping for victories - Jess in the a cappella finals with the MadriGals, and Cassidy in the national hockey championships with her teammates. In the midst of it all, the girls - along with their Wyoming pen pals, who drop in for a visit over spring break - dive into Charlotte Brontë's classic Jane Eyre. A great touch-base on Jane Eyre for Girls Aged 9-13yrs
The Mother-Daughter Book Club is back and this time they are reading "Jane Eyre" and it seems that a few of them definitely have some lessons to learn from Jane Eyre and a few other stories they have been reading or are exposed to. In Wish You Were Eyre , we discover that Becca has got a job working at Megan's grandmother Gigi's shop "Pies and Prejudice" , Megan is off to Paris and has been given the opportunity to cover the Fashion Week show due to her blog, Emma is having boyfriend problems as her boyfriend Stewart seems more occupied with newcomer Sophie who is from France and staying with Megan , Jess has been accused of cheating which means that she could lose not only her spot in the Accapella groud MardiGals but also her scholarship and Cassidy is taking her team to the champisonships but also has boyfriend problems as her eye his drawn to someone other than Zach. With lots happening including marriages, nasty girls, new babies and friendship problems it looks like the girls will have to join forces in overcoming any obstacles thrown in their way and like Jane - That's Eyre not Austen they must grow a backbone and find the courage to stand up for what they believe is right and needs to be said. The Mother-Daughter Book Club series , though is quite a lengthy read is aimed at girls aged 9-13years but is quite enjoyable as they find themselves relating the stories not only to themselves these days but they also get to learn neat facts and bond over the books.
This series is also good for the 13+ who love reading renditions of classics and just want to have some fun downtime to read and not have to worry too much about the content and detail of the storyline.
    Satisfying Series
I really enjoyed the entire series by Heather Vogel Frederick. Having raised all sons, it was good to have a contemporary look into the life of teen-aged girls. Each book wove a quality piece of fiction from another era into the story, and the girls' lives paralleled the lives of the characters from that book in some way. As you can see from the title, this book focused on Jane Eyre.

have a very good story line with a nice bit of
Both this and the second book in the series (The Adventurer's Guide to Dragons and why they keep biting me), have a very good story line with a nice bit of, "Hmm, I did not expect that, " as far as -The Why- the characters find themselves in the situations they get themselves into. The science fiction twists mixed into the story of magic was a refreshing difference from your usual wizards / magic / dragons books, that keeps our hero's on their toes, so not only must they battle those trying to use magic to stop them, but a lost science as well.
    Great adventure!
It's so great to find a fantasy adventure with a girl as the main character! Not only that, but there's touches of scientific inventions throughout that gives this a touch of science fantasy without going into steampunk or science fiction. Well-developed characters, fun adventure, and a great read overall. Can't wait for the next one in the series!
    Fast paced - great story

    1. Toxic friendships. People grow apart when their lives go different directions and friendships in high school are interesting. When you are there you think how can you ever live life without the friends you have in that moment?
    2. Jill's character. It was interesting to see her struggle with what was reality vs images she made up based on information she had heard. The brain is a complex thing and Cook does a phenomenal job of showing how it works.
    3. The ending. The last quote was icing on the cake!
    Really good fast read!
    Amazing
This book is a great book! The book leaves you interested and intrigued chapter after chapter!
    Great
First half of the book was good, but I dont like the ending. Still a great book
Didn't live up to the hype
This book was listed as a mystery thriller and yeah it was a mystery but not so much a thriller. It's about two besties who get in a car accident abroad and one ends up dead. The other is suspected of murder but has no memory of the events leading up to or right after the accident. The story itself was pretty good and moved along at a steady pace. By the middle I had a good idea of the girls friendship dynamic and had basically figured out the gist of what had happened. I'm a fan of books that involve memory loss and piecing the past together but the overall plot in this wasn't as exciting as I had expected. Maybe it's because the book was pretty hyped up before I read it. Oh well. The main character Jill was kind of bland. I didn't connect with her. I found myself more just wanting to find out what happened than actually caring about the outcome for her. At least it was a quick listen.
    My opinion...
Story was good, but not great, I love mysteries& even ya mysteries, but when this ended...I was like what?! I even double checked my chapter list to make sure. It was getting really good, I was very into to it & then poof! It was over. I'm not sure I even know what really happened. It's not a bad story at all, just wish it hadn't ended so quickly, I feel like there was more to tell. The performance was great, lots of characters & believable accents, just feel a little cheated at the end.
