this is the 2nd book in the Torrent witches. This a great series. It is funny and there is something always going on. This time it involves murder, ghost. The past meets the present. It seems Harlow and her cousins are always getting into trouble. This book is no exception. i recommend this series if you like good clean funny stories with a touch of paranormal, I received this book free for an honest review. I am glad i have found this series. I hope the rest of the book will be put in audio form.
    Don't miss this one!
murder, witches, humor, romance, suspense, family-dynamics, ghosts, magic
Fascinating read! Sure, it's somewhat lighthearted, romantic, and sleuthy, but there is this whole concept of being in two or more time spaces at once. The publisher's blurb gives the basic clues, and spoilers would be a disservice to both author and reader. You can't regret buying this one!
Natalie Duke does fantastic at audio interpreting, and adds to an already addicting tale.
    A mystical comedy mystery
Overall this second book has more enchanted mystical "witchy" dialogue and plots, in comparison to book 1. Book 1 was mild on the spells & sorcery and heavier on getting to know the quirky characters. So, if you aren't into fantasy or the sort you might want to start at book 1! There were also paranormal stuff going on, but it's done very innocently.
That being said, I feel like I really have grown to like these characters, because they are truly one big quirky family. The dynamics are hysterical, and Aunt Cass even strikes a bit of terror into me! They're a lovable clan, and because of that I didn't mind more of the mystical aspects. I also believe this has to do with the humor and comedy that sets the tone for the whole book. It's all lighthearted and comical, as is seen with Harlow's cat Adams who speaks and has the sassiest attitude!
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review
Strong second book in the series
Would you consider the audio edition of Treasure Witch to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version, but I really enjoyed the audio version of the book. I found Ms. Duke's narration to be entertaining and very well done.
What did you like best about this story?
I especially liked Holly, the little ghost girl. I was really pulling for her to find out what happened and to be able to move on.I
What about Natalie Dukes performance did you like?
Her character voices were well done, you can always tell who's speaking in the book.
    This family cracks me up
What did you love best about Treasure Witch?
    the quirky family
What about Natalie Dukes performance did you like?
    Awesome job
    Any additional comments?
Honestly, I listen to these books because of the family dynamics. The mystery/story is just a side note for me. Keep 'em coming.

July passes into August, and Daisy continues to mourn and not eat or work at her trade as a spiritualist. Although she's in a very unsteady mood, she finally agrees to use the Ouija board for her long-time best customer, Mrs. Pinkerton. During this session, Daisy has her spirit control, Rolly, dispense some harsh truths, something she's never done before. Daisy is appalled, but everyone else is proud of her. Mrs. Pinkerton's son (and Daisy's best pal) Harold Kincaid even offers to take Daisy to Egypt. Daisy doesn't want to go, but her family insists, so she agrees.
Once in Egypt, Daisy and Harold are not only plagued by the heat, but strange things happen to them. Sam Rotondo, who promised Billy he'd watch out for Daisy, hies himself to the Middle East. There, during one of a series of untoward events, Sam gets himself kidnapped in Daisy's stead. Then something even more remarkable happens after Daisy, Harold and several Turkish fellows manage to rescue him.
Neither Daisy nor Sam is quite sure what to make of their relationship once they return to staid and safe Pasadena, California.

    Ancient Spirits
This book was very interesting, humorous and entertaining. The historical facts of the 1920s were interesting. Harold & Sam added extra humor to the storyline. I enjoyed the narrator and all the different voices and expressions she had to relay. It was easy to understand the narrator and sometimes her manner of reading added to the story. This wasn't a murder mystery nor paranormal as I had expected but that just made this an even more interesting audiobook. I definitely will be checking into more books from this author, both ebooks and audiobooks.

    Publisher's Summary:
After 20 years as a political wife, the now-divorced Helen Binney should be able to organize a small event for the local library without breaking a sweat. But she didn't plan on the guest speaker, a controversial celebrity poker player, literally drawing a hand of death. Whose buttons did he push a little too hard? Was it really, as the police believe, the niece of Helen's handsome lawyer/friend, Tate? Getting to the truth would be a lot easier if it weren't for a cranky runaway cat, a group of poker players who put the "fanatic" in fan clubs, and death threats that may or may not be imaginary from an end-of-the-world cult. With the stakes so high, can Helen save Tate's niece without drawing death herself?
    Members Reviews:
A case to stump Helen Binney?
In A Draw of Death by Gin Jones, Helen Binney has kept busy by volunteering for the library. She has started a new speaker program and is kicking it off with a big-name poker player who has just moved to Helens out-of-the-way town in Massachusetts. Vic Risendes has all sorts of crazy requirements, such as purple M&Ms, as a speaker requirement. He has been driving the niece of Helens lawyer friend Tate crazy by constantly changing his mind about the design plans for the mansion he has built and for which Stevie is decorator. But when someone stands up to protest the promotion of gambling, Vic storms out of the library five minutes after arriving.
The next day Helen goes to Vics house to try to rearrange his speech for the library, but Vics staff are confused because sometime during the night their boss locked himself in the poker room and left out a note not to disturb him. Its now mid-afternoon, and he hasnt emerged yet. Just as Helen gets the idea to use the new cameras in the poker room to check if Vic is o.k., through the tablet they spot Tates niece, Stevie, discovering the body of a very dead and bloody Vic.
Realizing that Stevie is now the prime suspect and that she herself has twice now solved murders that the local police have been unable to deal with, Helen decides to inspect the issue for herself. She finds out that someone has tampered with the security system, so all the new equipment hasnt helped. This case proves to be much more difficult than her prior two and Helen has doubts about her ability to solve this one.
One thing I really appreciate about this book is the depiction of Helen as a woman who struggles with the disease of lupus but keeps fighting to live as independently as possible. As someone with my own chronic illnesses, I could clearly identify with the situation of Helen and her challenges. Though I do not have any personal experience with lupus, I could connect to the challenges Helen faces. I appreciate the way Jones depicts chronic illness and the accompanying indignities that patients face. In this book, Helens lupus adds memory and issues thinking, known as lupus fog, clearly to her range of physical problems.
Lisa Valdini narrates the audio edition of the book, as she does for the first two books in the series. She has a gentle voice that acts as a dynamic storyteller. The Audible recording does have some slight background noise every now and then, but it was faint and didnt bother me. I look forward to hearing more books in the series released on audio.
A Draw of Death is an enjoyable book. Its not adventurous and dramatic, but it tells a good story.

Read the first book & then this one :)
I bought this book after I won the first book on Netgalley. The characters sucked me in and story lines were intriguing. I literally read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down because I wanted to find out who killed Delilah and read more about Spence. :)
    A little spoiler below:
Although, I must say, I'm not sure what the point of introducing Bradley Trousdale into the mix in the first book if he wasn't going to be a key player in the second book. Also, it just made her look like a cheater, basically. I didn't care for that aspect. However, that didn't stop me from looking forward to Spence scenes.
I'll be looking at some other work written by this author.
    I liked it
Better than the first one! The characters are fleshed-out better, and the storyline is really good! Love the pets too. Waiting for the next one!
    Good Read
Second book in The Cypress Bay Mysteries. I like Eileen Goudge books and have read almost all of them. This did not disappoint!
    Suspenseful!
A very fun read but with enough twists and turns to leave you wanting to finish the book! I highly recommend this!
    Great read!
Fun book. Great characters with a good story line. My first Eileen Goudge book but I'm planning on getting more.

The night of the benefit arrives, and Westchester's finest show up in droves. But just when it seems the production is going according to plan, Zeb lifts an electric tea kettle, clutches his chest, and falls to the floor in fittingly dramatic fashion. The kettle shorted out and his pacemaker malfunctioned - but it doesn't take long for police to decide that this seemingly random accident was actually cold-blooded murder, making another case for Bernie and Libby.

A lot going on and complicated
This book was really good. It was much more complicated than the previous ones in the series, I think. The plot was much more convoluted and varied. The only problem I have is that one character, in my opinion, defines a word incorrectly. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. There are a few slightly frustrating moments as plot points are hidden and told out of the order in which the characters actually found them out in the process of the plot. They're not hidden very long. I appreciate that this book has chapter demarcations. Chapter demarcations make it so much easier to see how close you are to the end of a chapter or to find a stopping place when you need to do so. If you liked the previous books in the series, I say you should give this one a shot because I don't think you'll be disappointed. Have at it! I can't wait for the next one!

    Enjoyed the series' characters
Well, this series took its time, but it did have a mission and it eventually got there. I enjoyed many of the characters and their dilemmas. It was a cozy feeling series despite the gangster population but it did explore some sadness in peoples lives and how to move on. This book would be a tough first read of the series as it wrapped up the plots in fine soap opera style. Congrats to Temple and Matt as Max fades into the night and we tip our collective hats to Louie!

    Publisher's Summary:
Seattle yoga instructor Kate Davidson often acts more like a champion fighting rooster than the Dalai Lama. When she's not teaching yoga, she spends her time hiding from her creepy landlord and dodging her best friend's relentless matchmaking attempts. Even though her father was a cop, Kate has zero crime fighting aspirations. She has enough trouble keeping her struggling yoga business afloat while trying to live up to yoga's Zen-like expectations.
Then she stumbles over a body in the studio's parking lot.
The police dismiss the murder as drug-related street crime, but Kate knows that George - a homeless alcoholic she had befriended-was no drug dealer. And if the police won't take his murder seriously, she'll just have to solve the crime herself. After all, "Drunk Dies in Drug Deal Gone Bad at Yoga Studio" isn't exactly the free publicity she's been hoping for.
Kate stretches herself and takes on two new challenges. First, solve George's murder. Second, find someone-anyone-willing to adopt his intimidating, horse-sized German shepherd, Bella, before Animal Control sends her to the big dog park in the sky.
But with Bella's time almost up and the murderer hot on her trail, Kate will have to work fast. Or the next time she practices Corpse Pose, it may be for real.

It's about love, dogs, and murder!
If you're a dog person you'll love Bella, if you're a yoga person you'll love Kate, and if you like cozies this one is well worth reading! The amateur sleuth is a bit of a bumbler, but gets the job done. Interesting characters and plot twists make this a fun read!
Anne James is just perfect as narrator!
I requested and received this audio free from the publisher, author, or narrator courtesy of AudioBookBOOM.
    Loved this book!!
I loved this cozy mystery by Tracy Weber! It was great, all around! I recommend this book to lovers of dogs and cozy mysteries! I will be buying more from this author and narrator. I don't want to tell more than the story description already does because I don't want to give anything away, but you will not be let down. It was funny, engaging, and flowed nicely. The storyline was good, and the narrator brought the characters to life. The main character was easy to relate to and reminded me of myself in a number of ways....she even opened my eyes to a couple things in my own life.
Besides the main storyline (the solving of a murder of a homeless man), the author builds a variety of informative topics and themes into the plot that certain readers could benefit from in their daily lives. She does it in such an entertaining way that I didn't realize I was actually learning while listening until I found myself talking about some of them at work! These include:
    Dog Nutrition
    Dog Health
    Dog Behaviors
    Homeless Life
    Yoga
    Friendship
    Love/Dating
    Love/Family Members
I rate this book, the narrator, and the author 5/5 stars. I enjoyed it very much and I think you will feel the same! Thank you!!
    Right up my alley!
What made the experience of listening to Murder Strikes a Pose the most enjoyable?
The fact that it had a dog story line.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
    Yes.

Light Beach Read - Family Centric Mystery
In this story, an unlikable character gets killed and nearly everyone is suspect. I love when authors can take a serious subject such as murder and present it with both the seriousness it deserves and with levity. Author Elaine Macko carries this out with finesse by injecting functional and dysfunction-- all very realistic-- relationship issues in to a rather fun reading/listening experience. Clever quips, quirky relationship toggles, and mutually nulling affects of pitting self-flagellation against self-justification, keep all the backstories bobbing in along with the progression of this "who done it. Macko keeps it a light and fun and packed with family interactions (there's even a pet), thus making a nice contribution to the genre.
Narrator Michelle Babb does a great job with both male and female voices. There is one comment: For all characters, she injects pauses into her flow of speech that seem incongruous to what I would consider the natural flow of speech. I get the impression Babb's broken cadence is an issue of deliberate style rather than an inadvertent flaw. Either way, I found it distracting and, by the time I finally got used to it, I had nearly reached the end of the book.

    Fun Listen
    Any additional comments?
Nailed, An Alex Harris Mystery (The Alex Harris Mysteries Book 8), by Elaine Macko is a light, entertaining cozy mystery. While it doesn't break any new ground in the cozy genre, it is well worth a read, or in my case, a listen. This is a standalone novel. I had not read any of the previous seven books and had no trouble keeping track of the characters, nor did I feel like I was missing important information that may have been in the other books. The book has a very large cast of characters. I gathered many were recurring and others were potential suspects. Ms.

What made the experience of listening to Dead Like Ted the most enjoyable?
It was fun but it just seemed to take off on one tangent then pick up yet another facet of talent of the main character. It felt like flipping through tv channels quickly.
What other book might you compare Dead Like Ted to and why?
I would think the other books in the series are similar.
What about Julie Kellys performance did you like?
    Julie Kelly's narration was fine.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I couldn't get too involved with the characters or story. The premise was good. I had high hopes.
    Any additional comments?
This isn't so much a negative review. Just confusion on my part as to what I felt was lack of focus. I wish I could be more enthusiastic. It might work for many other listeners.

    Great Book!
    Any additional comments?
This is a great book; this is the second book in the Undertaker Mystery series and is written by Kendra Ashe and narrated by Julie Kelly. Jazz is a reaper and her life is full of chaos. She isn't happy about visiting the state penitentiary to reap the soul of a serial killer. Years ago, Theodore Salazar killed two people near the Eastwood River, but that's all over and done with. With the infamous serial killer dead, the city can breathe a sigh of relief. That relief doesn't last long. The morning after Salazar's death, the killings start up again. The police think they are copycat killings, but Jazz knows better. There's a killer on the loose in Eastwood, and it isn't a copycat or Salazar's ghost.
The narrator Julie Kelly did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to in one sitting and I didnt want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book.

    Cute
Acceptable, but nothing special, mostly forgettable. Pretty much like the first. Ok way to spend a few hours while driving.
    Cozy murder mystery
A small town with a lot of suspicious characters makes for a story with lots of suspects.
