When delicious baked goods become lethal, a trail of poetry leads to a sweet-toothed killer.
Don't taste it. Don't share it. Just throw it away. If you try my bakery pie. You won't live to see another day.
The Amish Artisan Village of Middlebury, Indiana, might be the last place you would ever expect to find a murderer, but Amber has been managing the Village for decades, and there's nothing she hasn't seen. Or so she thought.
When poetic notes begin appearing around the bakery, warning that some of the pies have been poisoned, Amber is as confused as she is concerned. Who poisons pies? And more to the point, who leaves poems of warning after they've done it? When Amber decides to help the police track down the sweet-toothed saboteur, she enlists the young Hannah Troyer for another round of Amish-style detective work. Meanwhile an attractive, older Englischer is preying on the single women of the Village, dating several of them at a time and generally alarming everyone who cares about the Amish girls' hearts. It's going to be a long summer in Middlebury. Can Amber and Hannah help the police before the Poison Poet strikes a target? Both women will need to draw on their faith to preserve the peaceful community they've built in Middlebury and protect the hearts and health of the girls who work in the Amish Artisan Village.

Amish Mystery and Veteran with PTSD
Clean and faith filled, Murder Freshly Baked, takes place in a small Amish Village in Indiana . . . the people of the town and the Amish mix and mingle, caring about one another, and working alongside each other, filled with artisans of all sorts, tourists and Englischers come and go, drawn to the cozy country inn, Amish cooking and handmade wares. . . I was especially drawn to Preston, the soldier, returned from Afghanistan, and suffering from PTSD, who had been living on the streets and was taken in to become a maintenance man for the village . . . when notes and supposedly poisoned pies start showing up at Amber's bakery, Amber and her young Amish friend, Hannah team up to try to find the culprit . . . an easy listen, despite the crime involved . . . stories of quilting, hard work, family and healing . . . my kind of book . . .
    Three and a half stars
Murder Freshly Baked was more of a romance than mystery. I enjoyed the story and the characters, but, after a while the romantic part of the story became the focus. At that point I had to skip ahead a lot because the story was annoying.

    Eeek...methinks not!
What a disappointment. Book #6 was very exciting, ending with a surprise; then there was a long wait for #7. The possibilities were endless...so why did this book feel like a "placeholder" for the real thing? First of all, there was a lot of backstory. If you haven't read #1-6, start there. Anyone who hasn't read #1-6 won't "get" all of the dynamics, so why bore your loyal fans with what they already know? Second, most of things that did happen in this book were entirely predictable. (I won't spoil this for other readers, but I'm betting many will feel the same.) Finally, the underlying mystery wasn't very interesting or personal and the mystery that I DID want to delve into was barely examined until the very end, pretty much leaving me in the same place I was at the end of Book #6. I'll also add that I roll my eyes every time Peter Ashford comes into the scene. LOL.
    I'm Done
This is my last book in the series. Carlotta and Wesley continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. I'm through.
    Different reader!!!
What is with the reader being changed. The original books had a women with a southern accent who was awesome. This reader was bad the male voices were nasally. Would I buy it again no.
    Good book
Loved the story but I didn't like the narrarator. She pronounced words incorrectly therefore I had a hard time understanding some things she was saying
    Horrible Narrator!
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I have been following the Body Movers series since it started, and I have loved each one, so when 7 Brides for Bodies came out, I was so excited. That excitement soon turned to frustration and disappointment, however, once I started listening. I absolutely LOVED Cassandra Campbell's narration. I feel like she did such a good job as Carlotta, I could really picture her in my mind. I understand that change takes some getting used to, but Maureen Jones really did a horrible job. I could get over not having the same Carlotta "voice," but I feel like she really missed the mark on it all. I don't feel like she got any of the inflections, her voices for the other characters, especially Peter were equally horrible, but the absolute worse thing for me was her constant mispronunciation of words. Who mispronounces "garage?" I understand that different people have different accents, and part of Cassandra Campbell's charm as Carlotta was the slight southern accent, which worked really well since this takes place in Atlanta.

Defending an innocent young man, defense attorney Paul Madriani uncovers a morass of corruption and greed that leads to the highest levels of political power in this electrifying tale of suspense from New York Times best-selling author Steve Martini.
One of the most successful lawyers in the country, Olinda Serna, is a master at managing money as well as her influential clients. After years of fierce combat in the political trenches, Serna knows all the dirty secrets, where the bodies are buried, and how deeply they are stacked. When she's killed in a roadside crash in the high desert of Southern California, powerful heads in Washington begin to panic, worried that their secrets may not be safe anymore.
Alex Ives, a friend of Paul Madriani's daughter, is accused of vehicular manslaughter in Serna's death. Ives claims he had only one drink on the night of the accident, yet he can't remember anything between the time he left for a party north of San Diego and the moment he woke up in a hospital the next morning. He's still dazed and a little bruised but also obviously very afraid. After all, a woman is dead, and he's sure he didn't kill her.
To save an innocent young man's life, the brilliant defense attorney must uncover everything he can about Serna and her clients no matter how unsavory - a search that will lead him into a vortex of corruption and, at its center, a devious killer poised to strike again.

    Where is the Legal Thriller??
I have followed Steve Martini for decades and use to run to the store when a new Paul Madriani novel was released. Martini has written so many intriguing and satisfying legal thrillers. Even though Martini still has a way with words, the plots of the last several books have changed the genre from legal thriller to more of an espionage / government-backed assassin type genre.
This genre change may interest others, but I found the plot too far-fetched and just not compelling. I did listen until the end, but wished I had quit earlier. I plan to listen to the early books again. I recommend those to you.
    Filler
I usually like Martini's writting but this story is mostly filler. Page after page describing things that lend no value to the plot.
    Intense but complicated plot
I always enjoy Martini books, but this one seemed a little complicated to me. Several storylines were given, and all of them did not seem to be resolved - at least in my view! maybe he will follow up another plot in the next book.
    The punt
Good listen but went sideways unnecessarily sometimes
    Worth a listen though .
    Performance was real good.
Needlessly complicated, but an excellent story!
It's not a legal thriller, although the protagonists are lawyers. It's really about government corruption, crooked politicians. And there is international intrigue.

    Narrator Change
I'm not a fan of the new narrator. The old narrator really brought Rose's character to life.
Much better than the 3rd book
Things start to heat up, Rose is acting more like a woman than a girl, and I just wish she didn't ramble on so much in her head...but you know what you're getting into after the first book. Glad not to have the smoker voice reading anymore! Rose sounds like a 24-year-old, rather than the 54-year-old, whom was narrating the last three books!
    Just keeps getting better!
What made the experience of listening to Thirty-One and a Half Regrets the most enjoyable?
I love the new lady doing the reading...Shannon McManus does a great job...she gets all the voices in the right tone and rhythm. Better than reading the book actually...which I have done!
Who was your favorite character and why?
As ever Rose! I feel with her...I cry with her...I want to slap someone for her...I want her for a friend!
What does Shannon McManus bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She does a great job. She brings the right emotions and tones to everyone's voice! You really feel as well as hear all the emotion and energy! I have read the book...and this really was better...and even though I know the story Shannon has me on the emotional edge as though I don't know what will happen.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh yes...wish my life was where I could do that!
    Any additional comments?
Please keep Shannon doing the audibles for all the Rose and NK books. And please do the whole series on audible....I don't want to have to wait for the audible as I wait for Denise to write the next book.
    Why the new narrator?!
Changing a narrator four books into a series wasn't a good move. Not to mention that this new narrator's "performance" falls flat. The voice doesn't seem to differentiate enough between characters and the tone of the narrator really has an impact on how we perceive the main character. Rose changes as a result of how this narrator reads compared to the first tgree books. Such a disappointment.
    very good read.
I can't put down the series, very addictive, can't wait to see what happens next.

    Members Reviews:
    B rating overall...
    My Review:
    Overall.... 4.0
    Performance... 4.5
    Story.... 3.5
I've enjoyed all of this series on audiobook because Laura Faye Smith does an incredible job with J.J. and Jack. I love both these characters and what they each bring to the table in their romantic relationship and their working relationship.
But this book had a few issues...
Note: the cover and story description on this book is TOTALLY wrong. Yes, J.J. and Jack are on the cusp of their wedding, but nothing about the corpse on the cover or the body in the rose garden in the description is right. It's like Liliana Hart wrote an entirely different book, scrapped it, and then rushed to come up with this version. Really odd.
While I thought the suspense was well-done overall (I knew where it was leading for who did it, but couldn't figure out how all the details fit together), it needed more at the end. I had to stop listening to the audio with 15 minutes left and was sure the audiobook wasn't going to be complete (I've had that happen once before) because there was no way to wrap everything up in that amount of time. It was wrapped up, but it wasn't done to the level that I've come to expect from Liliana Hart's novels.
There was a black moment in the novel that seemed to be just thrown in there because that's the way you're supposed to write a book...that's the formula. But it was completely out of the blue, didn't even make sense, and then was resolved with hardly any effort. WTF?
Despite all of these issues, I did still enjoy listening to this audiobook. Like I said before, Laura Faye Smith does brilliant narration. There were sweet moments between J.J. and several of the characters and watching her struggle to balance her job and her prep for the wedding was entertaining as always.
But I understand this is supposed to be the final main book in the series. What about J.J.'s father? What was on those flash drives? There's some discussion of that between her and Ben, but it's not complete. Matilda got fried in the crash....were the flash drives fried too? That tiny epilogue for the wedding...I needed MORE. :( I'm just sad that it feels like Liliana Hart rushed this one to publish when it wasn't quite ready yet....especially if it's the final book.
    Pretty good mystery!
Liliana Hart is one of those authors who writes romance novels as well as mystery/thrillers. Even with the mystery/thrillers there is a strong element of romance novels, but they are also good mysteries. Her mysteries are offbeat, light, and fun and her protagonists are a bit crazy. Hart is also one of the real success stories in self publishing.

A Geek's Worst Nightmare: Going Back to High School
High school is not something I ever wanted to do over - it was awful the first time around. So why do I have to go back as part of a new undercover assignment? Because the universe loves playing jokes on me, obviously.
I've been ordered to go all 21 Jump Street and track down the students who are breaking into the computer system, changing grades, and causing all kinds of havoc. Although I'm not thrilled about my new gig, at least it gives me something to do other than worry over the fact that I now have a boyfriend. And no freaking idea what to get him for Christmas. Or it did give me something else to worry about until I stumbled across a more sinister threat.
I was shocked to find distinct traces of a group of international hackers inside the network. Why would dangerous cyber mercenaries be interested in a high school in the middle of Washington, DC? What exactly have I gotten myself into?

    Another great installment!
This is one of only a few series where I can listen to an entire book in one day and sometimes stay up late to do so. Other than Lexi seeming a bit free in sharing info with children at some points and my thinking shes daft relationally I loved the progression in her social skills and particularly that slash and Basia were sidelined and seeing more of her work and chemistry with Elvis. I was a little sad over the ending but because I think things are so obvious Im hoping this series is written in such a way that things will fall into the place I think they should clearly be.
    Great audio book
Loved this story, one of my favorites in the series. Lexi is evolving as is Elvis and Slash is awesome. Loved the kids in this story. Kristen Watson Heintz is a marvelous narrator.
    Great book!
I love Lexi, Elvis and Slash! Every story in the series just gets better and better. Watching Lexi's social skills grow and how she calculates solving mysteries is "prime."

Hated for his cruel and vicious nature, ruling his family with an iron hand from his sickbed, tyrannical patriarch Adam Penhallow is found murdered the day before his birthday. His entire family had assembled for his birthday celebration, and every one of them had the ways and means to commit the crime. As accusations and suspicion turn in one direction and then another, the claws and backstabbing come out, and no one is exempt from the coming implosion.

"Sharp, clear and witty." (The New Yorker)
"Rarely have we seen humour and mystery so perfectly blended." (The New York Times)
    Members Reviews:
    Not typical of Georgette Heyer
If you love Georgette Heyer for her cheerfully witty repartee and nice cosy plots, don't expect either of those here. If you like edgy, psychological melodrama and don't mind outmoded social conventions and politically incorrect attitudes, you may find this an interesting take on how just about every variety of the emotionally scarred, pushed to the limit, might have reacted "back in the day". Most of the conflict has to do with what is and isn't acceptable behavior for members of various social classes. (Keep in mind that this was written in the early 1940s: we might hope that no one is outraged today when the son of a wealthy family wants to marry one of the maids, but does anyone honestly believe that we have come that far?) "What evil lurks in the hearts of men?" The immortal question of the roughly contemporaneous radio drama "The Shadow" expresses the theme, though we would add, "and from whence cometh that evil?"
Penhallow is not so much a mystery as a novel about a dysfunctional family on a rapid slide into disaster. The nasty tone is set by the opening words: "Jimmy the Bastard", repeated throughout as though it was his given name. The puzzle for the reader to solve is which of the many thoroughly detestable suspects we would most like to see hang for the inevitable murder (which doesn't take place until two-thirds of the way in), and who we would most enjoy seeing get away with it.
Penhallow is the tyrannical patriarch of a huge brood of vipers. If any character ever needed killing, this is he. Almost every other character has good reason to do him in, but while any one of them might well be capable of murder, no one seems quite ready to step in to do the deed. Much of the book consists of unpleasant exchanges between ever-revolving combinations from among Penhallow, his numerous offspring and in-laws, servants, and wife number two. Some of the nastiness is rather delicious, but enough is enough and too much quickly becomes tedious. It would have been better if Heyer had dropped a few of the siblings and brought the delightful sister Charmaine home earlier.
I have long been a great fan of Georgette Heyer, ever since my 8th grade English teacher recommended The Grand Sophy. The historical romances are a pleasant tidbit for my dedicated Jane Austen tastes, but what my cosy side truly adores is her mysteries. When Audible began adding them, I jumped on the chance to re-visit Inspectors Hannasyde and Hemmingway, and resolved to listen my way through the entire Heyer list.

    Entrancing
This is a short Christmas novella featuring J. A. Janes Ali Reynolds. Ali and B are getting married in Las Vegas over Christmas holidays. Alis grandson rescues a miniature dachshund that someone tossed out of a car but Ali is not ready for a dog as she will be leaving on her honeymoon. Ali and family leaves no stone unturned in searching for the dogs owner.
The fast pace story accomplished having a wedding without having to deal with it as a full novel and it is a cute story for dog lovers as well. I understand the little dachshund is one of Jances own dogs and she decided to write a story featuring it. Alisen Fraser narrated the book.
    Big disappointment from this author
What did you like best about A Last Goodbye? What did you like least?
I thought it would be a mystery from this author. Instead it is a melodramatic story about a woman and a dog
Would you ever listen to anything by J.A. Jance again?
Yes, because I know this author does write good mysteries
What does Alison Fraser bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    nothing much
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    no
    Marraige by dog.
This little short story was a nice easy read. I like the way the author gets the two subjects in the book to blend so well. You can't help but cry when they walk away from Bella's owner. A good book.

Donna Postel is Raine, and did a wonderful job as usual. The story had many twists and turns, made me laugh and want to cry. I highly recommend this book!

    Author is incredible!
I LOVE this author AND the narrator. This book keeps you in the proverbial edge of your seat, and demonstrates powerful lessons - multiple lessons.
I should have reviewed former titles more thoroughly; but, any reader will know this author is solid!
I am fussy about narrators; I've heard this one before - she is superb. Excellent work.
There is no recommendation high enough to give these two.
