She's bewitched by the voodoo spirit of an abandoned house in the rainforest and discovers that she's as much a danger to herself as the island's bad guys are. it gets better... No spoilers
after listening to the first 2 chapters i went back to look at the other reviews to decide if it was worth finishing. the narration and the story line were painful, but i agree with the other reviewers that the story does get better making it easy to overlook that as you get into the book. the heroine made me cringe early in but she did redeem herself. i will probably look into the second book in the series.
    Save yourself
What disappointed you about Saving Grace?
Ashley Ulery is a HORRIBLE reader. Her reading is so bad I couldn't get through the first chapter. This might be a good book, but I'll never find out because I am so turned off by Ulery's attempt at reading it. I LOVE audiobooks and have heard hundreds of them. This is the worst EVER.
What could Pamela Fagan Hutchins have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She could have selected a professional reader (actor, perhaps). Lorelei King is one of my favorites.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her reading was so distracting I couldn't even "hear" the book.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    I don't know... I couldn't get past chapter 1. It was awful.
    Any additional comments?
    Thank you for asking.
    Enjoyed
Story was good overall. My only problem with the audio was that it skipped several times. Not sure if this is normal with audio books.
Hopefully next book won't have this same problem.
Was just the kind of story I was looking for.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    Yes
What did you like best about this story?
The fact that it was based in a tropical climate with a lot of mysterious things going on.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narrator did an outstanding job but there was some type of audio noise in the background that was a little annoying.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    No
    Any additional comments?
I will be moving on to the 2nd book in the series. Already downloaded the 3rd too.
    The narration detracted from story
Would you be willing to try another book from Pamela Fagan Hutchins? Why or why not?
Maybe if the narrator was different.
How could the performance have been better?
The narration was distracting. Her attempt at accents was especially bad. The NY/NJ one was about the worst I've ever heard.
    Any additional comments?
The story wasn't fabulous but it wasn't awful either.

    Title: Dyeing Wishes
Subtitle: A Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery, Book 2
    Author: Molly MacRae
    Narrator: Emily Durante
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 30 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-02-13
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 173 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Always up for trying something new, Kath and her friends from the fiber and needlework group TGIF - Thank Goodness It's Fiber - are visiting Cloud Hollow Farm for the day to learn the fine art of dyeing. With spring in the air, the friends head out to greet the sheep. But the sheep are more interested in something else - two bodies spread under a tall tree. And one of those bodies is someone they know.
Kath's friends nudge her to investigate, and no one is more adamant than Geneva, the ghost who loves to play assistant sleuth. But when Kath discovers another murder cut from the same cloth, she's more determined than ever to hang a roving killer out to dry.
    Members Reviews:
    Good enough, but ...
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It is too short, for one thing. And the ghostly character is taking too long to develop. I mean, we are too books in now, and we barely have enough information to even begin to speculate about who she was, how she died, and why she remained in the world. Give us more about her, so she is not just a nuisance.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was too abrupt, with not many clues sprinkled in to lead us there. It is rare for me to fail to "solve" a mystery, and when I can't, it is normally because I missed a point that I can quickly recall. This one just felt too convenient, too pat.
Have you listened to any of Emily Durantes other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have only listened to her performance of the other Haunted Yarn Shop book, and since it is basically the same characters, I don't have a good feel for her. She did a great job with these book, though, so I would expect her to do well with other books dealing with down home country folk. I can't really imagine her doing a midwest or New England based book, but I could be wrong.
Was Dyeing Wishes worth the listening time?
I have listened to both of Molly MacRae's Haunted Yarn Shop mysteries, and I have enjoyed both. They are worth the listening time, especially since I listen quite often at work while doing some mindless, repetitive tasks that don't require a lot of attention. Some of the more intense books don't work well for this type of listening. I will listen to the next book in the series when it is available, and I expect to enjoy it.
    Murder/ suicide or double murder?
In Dyeing Wishes by Molly MacRae, the TGIF (Thank Goodness Its Fiber) club takes a field trip to Cloud Hollow Farm to learn the skills of dying wool. Debbie, the farms owner, goes out to show all the baby lambs to Kath, who has inherited her grandmothers store, Weavers Cat, and thus is a new full-time resident of Blue Plum. But when the two women get to the sheep, they find the body of a man cradling a woman, both shot dead and with a gun lying next to the mans body in an apparent murder/suicide. Recognizing the bodies in horror, Debbie identifies the man as Will, a local environmentalist activist who went into hiding in the mountains two years earlier after being accused of murder. But it is the woman whose death brings shock to Debbie, as Shannon is the daughter of Bonnie, one of the members of the TGIF group.

    Publisher's Summary:
Black Friday - the official opening of the Holiday Shopping Season - and Patrice Marcum is stuck in the middle of her local superstore with a crying infant, a near hysterical desire to just abandon the diapers and milk she desperately needs, and the snowstorm of the century dumping a half-foot of snow on the parking lot outside. She needs a miracle.
The little old lady seemed sweet, but there was no way Patrice was going to leave three-month old Jeremy with a stranger. She looked outside at the snow-covered parking lot and saw yet another distressed shopper's cart topple over in the drifts. The old lady sensed her distress and volunteered to call a store employee to help watch over Jeremy while Patrice got her car.
The older gentleman, wearing a store badge with the name Ron, seemed too good to be true. What could be safer? Less than five minutes later, after brushing the snow off the van and driving across the crowded and snow-packed parking lot, Patrice pulls up in front of the store. Jeremy is not there. Pushing back panic, she rushes into the store and looks around. Jeremy is not inside either. She pushes through the line at Customer Service, the associate calls Ron on the intercom, and issues a Code Adam. When Ron appears and he's only seventeen years old, Patrice realizes the worst. Oh God! They've taken my baby!
Mary O'Reilly, Private Investigator, is decorating her office for the holiday season when the newly installed bell over her door jingles. She looks over to see a six year-old boy standing next to her desk. His name is Joey Marcum and he wants to hire Mary to find his baby brother.
Mary nodded. "Okay, Joey, but I'll want to work with the police on this one. Do you have any problems with that?"
Joey paused. "No, I guess you can talk to them."
    "That'll be helpful."
"But you can't tell my mom you're working for me," he said, "Promise?"
    "Yes, I promise."
Joey shrugged. "I don't think she'd understand, seeing that I'm dead, you know."
    Members Reviews:
    Great read
If you ever enjoyed the TV shows ghost whisper & medium then you will enjoy this book. Mary the main character has the ability to see ghosts and to help people pass into the next realm. This story introduce an angle who she had never experience before to help her solve a mystery. There are actually three stories told in this book Intwined and totally interesting. Murder mystery and romance.
    Good Tidings
Narrator does better singing than performing. Some cheesy parts. Overall not bad. Giving it one more shot in the series before I give up on it.
    Cute
Would you try another book from Terri Reid and/or Erin Spencer?
I would possibly read another book by Terri. I didn't really enjoy Erin's narrating.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I like thinks that are paranormal but this was too cutesy.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Voices just okay. Too many she said he said.
Do you think Good Tidings needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I am sure it already does.
    Any additional comments?
Kinda predictable so that made it a bit slow.
Intriguing premise but over sweet in spots
I enjoyed this book and now must read the next one.

Keeping secrets, telling lies, they require the same skill. Both become a habit, almost an addiction, thats hard to break even with the people closest to you, out of the business. For example, they say never trust a woman who tells you her age; if she cant keep that secret, she cant keep yours. Im 59.
You have never met an (ex) FBI agent like Brigid Quinn Brigids career - the disappearance and presumed murder of her young protégée, Jessica. Floyd knows things about that terrible night that were never made public, and offers to lead the cops to Jessica's body in return for a plea bargain. It should finally be the end of a dark chapter in Brigids life. Exceptthe new FBI agent on the case, Laura Coleman, thinks the confession is fake, and Brigid finds she cannot walk away from violence and retribution after all, no matter what the cost.
With a fiercely original and compelling voice, Becky Masterman's Rage Against the Dying marks the heart-stopping debut of a brilliant new thriller writer.
    Members Reviews:
I hope there are more of these on the way!
Where does Rage Against the Dying rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I have listened to many, many audiobooks and this is easily in the top ten.
What did you like best about this story?
The protagonist is a strong, quirky retired FBI agent who is (gasp) over fifty. Like many of us who are over fifty she has a vibrant life (in every facet) with meaningful work, interesting friends and a strong loving relationship with her husband. She is physically strong and capable and allows herself to really connect with the families of the victims of the crimes she has investigated. This is a richly nuanced character, complex and wryly funny.
    Which scene was your favorite?
It would be very hard to describe without giving away an essential plot element but involves a decision she comes to regret and the internal dialogue which is funny, frightening and full of pathos.
The narrator of this book could not be better. She fully captures the character with her laconic observations.
This charater ranks right up there with other strong female protagonists from authors such as Navada Barr and Sue Grafton.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
If you're tired of vampires, zombies and tennyboppers here's the film for you. A thinking person's action movie!
    Any additional comments?
I sincerely hope Ms Masterson has other books coming. Now that I've made friends with Brigid I want to see and hear more of her.
Mystery and love story for adults
    Any additional comments?
This was a terrific listen! Crime story interesting but not too gory. Story revolves around three female FBI agents, two of whom you really get to know and appreciate, especially with their flaws on display as well as their strengths. The other one is dead unfortunately. As 60+ reader I was moved by sharing some of the same historical memories as the protagonist. But what really distinguished this book for me was the depiction of the later in life marriage of the senior agent which did not overshadow the crime story but gave it a bittersweet resonance.

    Publisher's Summary:
In New York Times best-selling author Denise Swansons "slightly zany" new mystery series, Devereaux Sinclair loves running her old-fashioned store in her small Missouri hometown. If only murder didnt keep landing on her doorstep.
Devs five-and-dime may be doing well, but her love life is in turmoil. Shes torn between Deputy U.S. Marshal Jake Del Vecchio, who is on an undercover assignment, and her ex-beau Noah Underwood, the local doctor from a high-society family. So she welcomes the distraction when Elise Whitmore offers her a great deal on antique chocolate molds that would be perfect for her Easter gift baskets. But do the molds actually belong to Elises soon-to-be ex-husband? In buying them, has Dev committed a felony?
When Elise is found shot to death, the mystery deepens - and Devs good friend Boone, who discovered the body, is taken into custody. With the help of her best buds, Dev must clear Boones name and find the real killer. Good thing that when it comes to amateur sleuths, they broke the mold with Dev Sinclair.

    Addictive series
Why does every book have to have a love triangle? I really like Dev and Jake and don't want to have doubts about the relationship and like Noah!
This book puts Dev in the middle of another murder mystery, some girls have all the luck! This time she is looking to clear Boone when his client is murdered. So much intrigue!!
This time we get a split narrative between Dev and dishy Doc Noah. Dang it I did not want to like him!! But he is now winning brownie points with me! I still prefer sexy as all get out bad boy Jake!
Once again the steam is relegated to a few hot kisses. We never seem to get past making out. Sigh!
The mystery is once again really intriguing and not an easy solve. I love all the twists and turns! This is easily my new fave mystery series!! Wonderfully paced and not a dull moment to be found!
Once again Maia Guest does a superb job of narrating. I love her characterizations and she really makes the story sing!
    Entertainment
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    Yes. Quirky and fast paced
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gran. Full of acid and spice.
What does Maia Guest bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Lots of life !!!!! Painted a picture of all characters
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Both.
    Any additional comments?
Great listen. Well narrated. Very visual to the mind. 10/10
Another sweet mystery by Denise Swanson
If you could sum up Nickled-and-Dimed to Death in three words, what would they be?
    Fun, Romantic, mystery
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I figured out the killer fairly quickly, but still enjoyed the story.
Which character as performed by Maia Guest was your favorite?
    Dev
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
While trying to decide which man is for her, Dev must solve a murder to save her BFF from a murder charge.
    Good read
I liked the story line and was surprised by the ending. It kept me interested.
    Pretty Good
This is a pretty good cozy mystery with well developed characters and an entertaining mystery. I look forward to the next one.

When someone steals the files from Martas office, Eve must immerse herself in Roarkes world of big business to figure out whos cruel and callous enough to hire a hit on an innocent woman. And as the killers violent streak starts to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait.
    Members Reviews:
    My favorite series in audiobook!
Perfect performance by Susan Erickson as she bring us the story in this In Death story. She makes Eve Dallas come to life with her superb narration. Highly recommend every book in this series. A+
There are much better out there.
It might be because I got the abridged but this book did it hold my interest as others. It was my first time with an abridged JDRobb and I won't do it again. I missed the bantering between Dallas and Peabody and Rouke and Dallas relationship.
    Too short
What disappointed you about Calculated in Death?
The story was too short and not filled with the usual richness of sideline characters that I am used to enjoying with this particular writer. I never buy abridged novels for this same reason. It seems like there is always something missing.
What could J. D. Robb have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Increased the story to include more interesting characters. More mystery as I figured this one out15 minutes into the book.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator was one I am very used to hearing with JD Robb.
What character would you cut from Calculated in Death?
I would add characters and depth and mystery. Not take away from the characters all ready there. I just expected more . I won't be purchasing these mini books any more. Really not worth the price or a credit. Short and lacking is not always better.
    Any additional comments?
I will try not to purchase anymore books of this nature that have such a short duration. Something has to be left out time wise. I wonder how well this story could have run with more time and effort towards twists and plots.
    In Death series
    another great story by j.d.Robb

I'm lying on my back, soaked with sweat from the hair on my head to the soles of my feet. My hands and feet won't stop shaking. Some will say that I'm not really here. Some will say I'm delusional. Some will say that I don t even exist. But who are they? I'm the one buried in a grave.
My name is Christy Snow. I'm 17. I'm about to die.
    So who are you?
In a return to the kind of storytelling that made Black, Showdown and Three unforgettable, Ted Dekker drags that question into the light with this modern day parable about how we see ourselves. Humming with intensity and blindsided twists, Eyes Wide Open is raw adrenaline from the first page to the last pure escapism packed with inescapable truth. Not all is as it seems. Or is it? Strap yourself in for the ride of your life. Literally.

Horrendous story - makes me angry I wasted money
I kept waiting for this story to evolve. The psychological thrill just set me on edge (and not in a good way). I pushed through it hoping it was for a good reason and that the plot would become clear - it never really did. When the book FINALLY ended, it made me feel as though I just wasted time for a fantasy that was just plain stupid.
    BORING!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narration was poor. The narrator was okay, but the volume went up and down, started and stopped, like there was a lot of background static.
What could Ted Dekker have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Just not have written it. Sorry, Ted.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Kind of irritated that I wasted a credit.
    Tedious.....
Tedious plot.....unbelievable at times......many twists, not resulting in progression of story line......disappointing turn of events......did not capture attention long enough to make it interesting to discover a conclusion.......
    Great start..........weak finish
What did you love best about Eyes Wide Open?
The first half of the book has a person on the edge of their seat. You can feel the emotions of the characters.
Would you recommend Eyes Wide Open to your friends? Why or why not?
I would reccomend with the hesitation that the end is a little disappointing.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Good story, narration drags
I would like to have read this book instead of listening to it. I usually love Dekker's thrill rides. The narration seems rushed, repetitive (almost sing-song at times), unengageda hindrance to classic Dekker suspense.
If youre a Dekker fan, this 1 is closer to the juvenile series style, similar to the Lost Books saga; & as always, connected to the larger adventure. ;) The spiritual twist becomes clearer as the story progresses, so just enjoy the ride. It provides a good message for youth & adults, especially for those who are not happy with self.
    Thanks again, Ted.
    Blessings~

    Frequent Listener
Just finished this listen on the way home from work Friday. Went back on line to down load a couple of the S.B. series I haven't listened to yet. Read the reviews by many, pretty surprised by the feedback. For those who listen to a lot of books, Tony does one of the best jobs of any of the narraters I listen to. Seperation of the characters is difficult, Tony does a great job with this. As far as the Barrington series go, I listen because they are fun, only slightly racy and entertaining. Maybe not great literature, but they can make you laugh, keep you in some suspense and bring you in to like the characters. What more should you ask for in a series meant to entertain, not think.
I Love Tony Roberts as a Narrator!
If you could sum up Collateral Damage in three words, what would they be?
I Love the Entire Stone Barrington Series
What does Tony Roberts bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I love how he separates the characters voices. I can appreciate a Narrator who does this because I have been listening to a lot of audio books lately and he is the only one who does a great job at this. For those of you who disagree (because I've been surprised by how many people dislike Roberts) Please suggest good Narrators so that I can listen to those books for comparison. Without that, Tony Roberts is the best I have heard.
    Any additional comments?
This series is good, its entertaining fiction that does what a good book should do. Take me away from reality.
    Slow.
I always enjoy Stuart Woods books, until now. This book is slow. No feeling and it was hard to remember who was who. Did he run out of ideas? Should have stopped at book 24.

What made the experience of listening to Collateral Damage the most enjoyable?
The series has shown growth and depth. The author has been able to keep my attention for the entire series, when is the next book coming
What other book might you compare Collateral Damage to and why?
I guess you can compare to each book of the series..they have grown with each new book. Great job Stuart Woods
Which character as performed by Tony Roberts was your favorite?
    Stone Barrington
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    no one moment..the whole book
    Any additional comments?
the series says it all..keep writing them
    Getting it done
A well written story that keeps you engaged. Stone and Holly got it done with a lot of help. Wish the real world worked the same way.

    Publisher's Summary:
Holland Taylor is comfortable in interrogation rooms. For years the cold, dark cells of the St. Paul Police Department homicide squad were his turf, and with the help of his partner he wrung confessions out of countless killers. But that was long ago. Tonight Taylor is on the other side of the desk. Tonight he is the suspect.
Taylor's career in the department ended after his wife and daughter were killed in a drunk driving accident. The culprit, John Brown, was sentenced to a measly six years for vehicular manslaughter, and Taylor vowed bloody vengeance in front of open court. After a few months of freedom, Brown is shot dead, and Taylor, now a private investigator, is called in as the obvious suspect.
The death turns out to be linked to Taylor's current case, involving state representative and gubernatorial candidate Carol Catherine Monroe, who is being blackmailed by an old boyfriend. He didn't kill John Brown, but he will find out who did even if it means tearing the Twin Cities apart from the inside out.
    Critic Reviews:
"A surprisingly accomplished first novel with a likable everyman protagonist and a clever plot." (Booklist)
"An intriguing, darkly pessimistic take on American politics and media." (Publishers Weekly)
"As long as authors like David Housewright build first novels as good as Edgar-winner Penance, readers will come." (The Armchair Detective)
