This is becoming a great cozy mystery series!
I have to say that the author is really coming into her own. Still a few weird things that I couldn't understand why she did, but it didn't really interfere with my enjoyment of the book.. except I kept wanting it to be explained!
The mystery was excellent. I didn't figure it out until the author wanted me to do so. I enjoyed the characters much more and thoroughly laughed and smiled when Madame and Clare start investigating together.
You can tell the author is very proud of her New York areas. The descriptions get a little long winded, but doesn't really detract from the story.
    The narrator makes this book!
This series is becoming really fun.
Excellent Mix of Mystery, Coffee History, and Prep
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Recommended to anyone that likes or loves coffee. Love the mix of coffee history and coffee preparation methods and secrets.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Constantly wondering what was going to happen next. Many twists and turns and never quite clear how things might or even could end.
What about Rebecca Gibels performance did you like?
Excellent voices that helped identify characters and build suspense. Ms Gibel made you relate directly with the characters and I found myself wanting to talk out loud to the characters to warn them about what might happen next.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, definitely! Very hard to pause for even a moment. Didn't even watch the news on TV until the book was finished.
    Any additional comments?
Love the series and can't wait until the rest of the books in the series are recorded. Will be on the lookout for more from the author and also more from the narrator.
    Decent
Another good installment. Pretty much like the previous in the series. If you've made it this far you already know what to expect.
Village Blend features new decaf coffee
Part owner and manager of New Yorks The Village Blend coffee house in Greenwich Village, Clare Cosi has called a special meeting of her best baristas. Her ex-husband Matt Allegro and his friend Rick have a new coffee they want them to taste. When she tells them that demand for decaffeinated coffee has risen to 20 percent of their customers, they cant believe so many want the neutered blend. After all, there are only a couple ways to decaffeinate coffee, and they both strip away some of the essence of the bean, leaving it flat. Now Rick is making the Village Blend the exclusive distributor of his new naturally decaffeinated coffee.

When she hears that her younger brother, Danny, has committed suicide, Sayre Lynch relinquishes her vow never to return to Destiny, the small Louisiana town in which she grew up. She plans to leave immediately after the funeral, but soon finds herself drawn into the web cast by Huff Hoyle, her controlling and tyrannical father. Hoyle owns the town's sole industry and runs the lives of everyone who lives there. Her father and older brother, Chris, are as devious as ever with their new partner-in-crime, a disarming lawyer named Beck Merchant. When Sayre is thrown in closer contact with Beck, she senses something more sinister is at play.
As she sets out to learn just what did happen to Danny, Sayre is inextricably drawn into a struggle with striking laborers, her unscrupulous father, and her growing love/hate relationship with Beck - a man with mysteries of his own. A brilliant combination of hard-edged suspense and intense emotion, White Hot is master storyteller Sandra Brown at her very best.

UGH - didn't notice it was abridged....
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
NO - giving up. The abridged version leaves out so much stuff I can't even follow it! Massively huge plot holes. I can't stand abridged versions but I bought this on my iphone and didn't notice - so my bad. If it could be followed it would be ok...but when one character complains about being set up and the key info about incriminating evidence simply wasn't there I couldn't take it any more. Seems like a good story and the narrator was great. I know some people like abridged versions - but if you're going to put them out and charge money for them PLEASE at least make them coherent!
    White Hot - Review
What made the experience of listening to White Hot the most enjoyable?
The story was captivating, suspenseful and kept your interest throughout the entire book. It was thoroughly enjoyable for both my husband and myself.
Have you listened to any of Victor Slezaks other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't believe that I have listened to any other performance by Victor Slezak.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were many times when the story made you laugh but also times when you wanted to cry.
Not Sandra Browns best work, Not her worst either.
This book was pretty good. The shocking ending was great. I never would have guessed it. It's worth a credit. Sayre was tough and never backed down. I liked that about her. I wish there was an unabridged version of this book.
    Good, but not the best
I really love anything Sandra writes but I felt it was a little lacking in depth. Good for a short listen since it was the abridged version ( not sure if I am a fan of that) , but I felt like the characters weren't as developed as her other books and the heroine wasn't as passionate and admirable . I would still recommend this book, but doesn't make the top 5 of SB books!
    great book
Love Sandra Brown!! Keeps you on your toes! Love this book
Have read it over and over

Can they ever have a vacation?
What did you love best about If I Should Die?
I'm not a fan of back-woods thrillers and prefer characters running around in a city but that's just my preference. The story was good but Lucy really needs to stop being so needy. Her character is a little pathetic but I think the narrators voice adds to this. This is the last of Ann Marie Lee for this series which is good.
What other book might you compare If I Should Die to and why?
all the rest of the Lucy Kincaid books
    Which scene was your favorite?
I prefer to not know who the bad guy is but with this book we know. That's just my preference of story writing.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was annoyed by Lucy and sometimes the boyfriend can be a little needy too. I guess that's why they are good for each other.
    If I should die
I liked the storyline it was never boring or too slow. Lucy and Sean need a break lol.
    Just couldn't get into it
I don't know what it was about this book, but I just couldn't get into it. I felt like it took till almost the end of the book before I really knew who was who. I didn't have a single moment of feeling like I just couldn't wait to know who were the bad guys, I just kept going hoping it would get better. I have read a number of Allison Brennan's books and really enjoyed them so I don't know what the problem was with this one.
Keeps you until the very end
Loved this one ! Lucy and Shawn really have a knack of finding trouble and trouble finding them. Worth the listen.
    Narrator
The narrator is waaaayyyy tooooo dramatic. :). But the story was good and I like the Lucy Kincaid story line

    Critic Reviews:
"[W]ith a brilliant strategy, James manages a checkmate." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
Not as good as Bishop, but some high points
The first thing that bothered me was that the author spent way too much time reviewing things that happened in previous books. There are some really neat characters and happenings in this book to make it worthwhile, but it's not a very tidy work. The enigmatic assassin Alexei and his bone gun were the best part. James always adds a dialogue about a moral issue in each of his books, using Tessa as the devil's advocate. This one was about forgiveness, and there was a little too much focus on it, distracting from the story.
    different kind of crime/spy thriller
Even though this is book #5 in the series, this is my second book in the series and second by the author. I enjoyed the first one, "The Bishop", but I wasn't overwhelmed with excitement. So, I chose the book in the series that was highest rated, this one. In the crime/spy action thriller genre the authors must try hard to differentiate their stories from all of the others. This author does it in a different way than most. At the beginning of the book it says the book is recorded by Recorded Book Inspirational so you think there must be some goody two shoes overtones in the story and I'm OK with that. But, for instance, the crimes are heinous and the violence gruesome in this series. Then I don't know that I really understand why the author involves his senior in high school step daughter in the investigation the way he does as in real life I can't believe an FBI agent would or could in any way, shape or form involve a family member the way Tessa gets involved. It almost seems hokey. But, maybe that's where the inspirational part comes into the story as the author uses the daughter and her life events to pontificate somewhat on life and right versus wrong. But this was an easy story to listen to, to stick with. I mostly want to be entertained when I listen to a book and this was definitely entertaining.
    Really enjoyed this one
What did you love best about The Queen?
The twists, the ending(s), the scenery. All good
Who was your favorite character and why?
I like the complexity that is brewing in Raven.
What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His gruffiness. He plays all the characters very well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes!~

    Members Reviews:
    Classic Mystery
Donna Leon never disappoints, Guido Brunetti and his team are back for another case of murder. It is a well constructed murder mystery and this time we see Senorina Ellectra in action. The only disappointment for me was that I missed spending time with the Brunetti family. Other titles by Donna Leon have more of this. I love the family scenes over lunch and dinner.
David Colacci does an excellent job, as usual.
    A sea of Troubles
This Donna Leon book was a great book to listen too! The narrator did a great job. The ending was exciting and the story line did not disappoint the listener.
    Fell apart at the end...
Would you try another book from Donna Leon and/or David Colacci?
Yes, this is the sixth that I've read/listened to and I've really enjoyed all the others.
Would you ever listen to anything by Donna Leon again?
    Yes.
What about David Colaccis performance did you like?
I find he is very good at evoking the Italian imagery and characters with his voice and pronunciation. (Bear in mind I'm not Italian and wouldn't know if it authentic or not; but sounds so to me.)
Do you think A Sea of Troubles needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I know there are many book in this series so I will continue to enjoy it, but if this were the first book I read I would not read any more. It started off very entertaining and near the end got weak and finally, didn't seem to make sense.
    Fun, Servicable Brunetti Mystery
I agree with the reviewer who found Electra's loss of composure out of character. I must strongly disagree with the reviewer who preferred the Crossley narration of another Leon novel. Narrators, like actors, must be cast with great care. A miscalculation can ruin the performance. Such is the case with Leon's Brunetti novels. Colacci's command of the accent and the voice he gives to the recurring characters is brilliant.
Steven Crossley is a fine performer. His narrations of Connie Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog and, appropriately, Jerome's Three Men in a Boat were inspired. However, there is no sense of the Venetian setting in Crossley's narration of Willful Behavior and the mispronunciations (see prior reviews) are a bit ear-grating to listeners of this series. These problems may be down to the direction. However that may be, this listener is of the strong opinion that Colacci is the (far) more preferable narrator for the Brunetti series.
    Not up to Leon's usual
I have always enjoyed Donna Leon's books, but this is short on plot, and an unsuccessful attempt at suspense and sex.

    Title: Strip Jack
    Author: Ian Rankin

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Gold Dagger-winner and best-selling author in the United Kingdom, Ian Rankin crafts absorbing crime novels with solidly drawn characters and first-rate plotting. In Strip Jack, he portrays a shocking murder investigation that exposes the sordid side of Edinburgh politics and society.
Detective John Rebus suspects a set-up when a respected Member of Parliament is caught in a police raid on a brotheland his flamboyant wife suddenly disappears. After the womans badly beaten body shows up, it becomes Rebus job to find the killer. Is the MP really self-destructing as circumstances suggest? Or is a bitter enemy out to get him? Suddenly Rebus finds himself facing off with a cunning killer who holds all the cards. Narrator Samuel Gillies well-paced performance underscores all the tension in this intriguing read.
    Members Reviews:
    Rebus regains early promise
This listen seemed more solid in plot, character and writing than Rebus #2 and #3. Narrator Gillies seems to let Rebus be a little more Scots - but still does not deliver the man from Edinburgh as well as James Macpherson in Knots and Crosses. I find that Rebus starts to "age" well from this point on in the series. I hope Audible keeps adding the later titles!
    Rankin's great
This story gets out there rightaway, and you are into it up to your neck. Everything is fast-moving as usual with Rebus sometimes annoying, as his general character is meant to be. I was right with this reading from begining to end. couldn't put the book down(so to speak).
The narrator is excellent and the surprise but very interesting ending had you guessing all the time. Highly recommended reading. I would love to talk with this author, he must be a hoot!
    Good Rankin
Would you listen to Strip Jack again? Why?
    Maybe
Who was your favorite character and why?
    All interesting
Have you listened to any of Samuel Gilliess other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No, but want to
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Any additional comments?
The Scottish accents make it, well performed and it's good Rankin
Not really the Rebus from the later books.
What did you like about this audiobook?
Not much. I've read all of the Rebus books prior to reading this one which was disappointing.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
I've been reading all the European/British mysteries I can find for years, including Rankin.
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
The information is there, but the plot is uninteresting and it just doesn't sound like the later Rebus I've enjoyed.
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
It was boring. Narrators of other Rebus books were better.
Do you have any additional comments?
Since I've read the other Rebus books, I was excited to find one I'd missed, but was disappointed. I'm enjoying the new series, although I miss Rebus.
Story fine, narration not so fine
Typical Rebus book but the narration missed quite a few of the humorous asides that make this series so much fun.

    Members Reviews:
Parker: a marvelous old friend who makes you happy
Robert B. Parker was one of this country's most prolific authors, in league with Elmore Leonard. Like Leonard, he simply wanted to entertain us, and he succeeded almost every time out. Likewise, Michael Prichard was an amazingly prolific performer (and may still be). And Joe Mantegna is also an incredibly prolific and likable actor and narrator. Choosing between these two narrators is like trying to choose between the best apple pie and the best peach pie: very hard to do. In Sixkill, Parker again puts Spenser in his usual slot: a very tough guy on the outside with a very tender inside. The dialogue is, as always, witty and brief. You start chuckling right out of the gate. Mantegna seems to have a little more trouble with the repetitive "he said, she said" stuff than Prichard. I seem to notice that less when hearing Prichard. Mantegna, OTOH, is a face many of us know from movies and TV, and his voice is that of a friendly guy who might live next door to you, who happens to be one of the best storytellers anywhere. The plot of Sixkill is really just an excuse for Spenser to act, to play the tough guy when he wants to and the tender lover of Susan Silverman when he needs to. Not that the plot is trifling: it is clever and tugs at your heartstrings, in some ways. Sixkill is a huge Indian who once played great football, but then fell down a terrible slide. Spenser takes him on as a project, and between Spenser and the talk-about-tough-but-silent Hawk, they reclaim Sixkill in a way that is very humane and caring. Parker was a genius. Both Prichard and Mantegna make him sound wonderful. I have only tried to listen to one book narrated by David Dukes, and I hated it. Sit down with Parker and have a great time.
    Recommend !
If Mantegna narrated all the Spenser series, I'd buy them all. This was a good story and although I missed Hawk a little - Sixkill made up for it. I bought a few of the series read by others and they weren't just bad, they were terrible. It would be fun to have Mantegna narrate the others..I can't even begin to listen to Rudnicki.
All in all this was a great listen and I was sorry when it ended...Parker will be missed!
    SixKill
So sad this is the last Parker novel and it looks like he was introducing a new character Z. SixKill a Native American from the Cree Nation. Enjoy his tongue-in-cheek dialog with people particularly Susan. The "he said, she said" I am getting use to in his novels. The past of the story is fast. Mantegna does great job with the narration.
    Spenser's Last Bow
What did you love best about Sixkill?
I liked Parker's approach of alternating episodes from the title character's life with narrative chapters in the present, so we get a sense of him organically.

    What?
Excellent book. Her stories are consistently good. I have very sensitive ears and don't get the complaints of sucking and swallowing sounds. Every reader I've listened to makes a few sounds, but this one certainly doesn't make enough to matter. Excellent writer. Excellent reader.
    Very Entertaining
I enjoyed this murder mystery very much. Alexa the DA was professional and very astute. It was my first book by this author. I gained much insight into how much leverage DA's have. I had no idea of the amount of field work they do or are allowed to do. I will be reading more books by this author.
I had no problems with the narrator. She did a very good job. I have listened to other books by this narrator and she is a credible reader.
    Likely to listen!
Where does Likely to Die rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Hmmm...in the top 20%
Who was your favorite character and why?
The rough, tough detective. He just tells it like it is and is always there to rescue Our Heroine.
What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I love her phrasing and ability to do different voices. It makes the story come alive. She rocks! I know that some of the reviews said that she swallows too much...gee...I didn't notice enough of this to bother me.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Witless for the prosecution (sorry...I find the main character somewhat thin...)
    Fairstein fan..
I love this author not only was she a real life DA, but she has an incredible grasp of storytelling the real life day to day without being boring. That being said I usually look forward to Barbara Rosenblat telling the story as she does a great job, and she is the characters for me, but this book fell a little flat. However, I contribute that also to this was one of her first books with the characters. Overall, GREAT story, couldn't wait to listen everyday!
    The First
This is the first but not the last of Linda Fairstein's books that I listen to. I enjoyed the story and am especially hopeful that Ms. Rosenblat is the narrator for all of them.
Also like that they are priced so reasonably.

Eve Duncans mission in life is to bring closure to the families who have experienced the agony of a missing child. As a forensic sculptor, she is able to piece together bones, create a face, and match a name to a child who would have otherwise gone unidentified. Eve is brilliant, driven, and tormented - because her own daughter, Bonnie, was taken from her years ago. Now, with the help of CIA agent Catherine Ling, a startling piece of evidence is uncovered in the quest to find Bonnie, leading to a connection that had been all but buried. Catherine challenges Eve with a name: John Gallo, a man from Eves own past, seemingly raised from the dead, whose whereabouts are unknown. Could Gallo be the missing piece to the puzzle that has haunted Eve for years? Why was he in Atlanta just before Bonnies disappearance? And what kind of darkness was he hiding? With a brilliant narrative that exposes Eve Duncans early life, exploring her history and motivations like no other novel before, Eve reveals long-guarded secrets and is guaranteed to keep Johansen fans holding their breath for more.

Dont waste your time or book credit on this one!
I completely agree with the other reviews, and wish I had waited to read them before I picked up this disappointing book. The narrator's voice was dreadful, the plot unremarkeable, best left on the shelf!
    Rubbish
    What disappointed you about Eve?
The whole story line was rubbish. If it had been a hard cover book, I would have thrown it away.
Has Eve turned you off from other books in this genre?
    No
What didnt you like about Jennifer Van Dycks performance?
I think she did an excellent job with bad material
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Eve?
Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie. Plus the constant asking if whoever, had killed her. I would have knocked her on the head. Eve, that is.
    Awful
"Audible hopes you have enjoyed this book". I DID NOT! Eve is getting dumber with each book and I found myself rolling my eyes over and over at the dumb, dumb antics and the even dumber dialog. I am sick to death of hearing about "her 'Bonnie" and now an entire book that revolves around this over worked subject. And did we really need to spend most of the first half on the crazy, unbelievable teenage sexual relationship? Seriously, thinking she is not going to get pregnant by taking one pill? I cannot believe the shoddy work here. The other reviewer was correct with her comments "what about Joe"? And this is the worst narrator I have heard. As soon as the book started I remembered why I did not want to get another Eve book. She emphasizes the wrong words and frequently each word of a sentence. Her sinister voice is just plain ridiculous. I could barely finish the book and then was sorry I wasted my time with that ending.
I wish I saw the last review
The book is bad, the reading is horrible, don't waste your credit on this book
    Complete disappointment
After "Chasing the night" where Iris finally gave her readers a strong woman that was sexy AND smart, she gives us Eve, the Eve that tries to protect a man that has spent the last 11 books rescuing her from her own stubborn stupidity. She doe it by running away with the father of her dead child.

    Love It!
Would you listen to Big Red Tequila again? Why?
Yes, It was written well and fun. Good story.
    Any additional comments?
I love this author. He reminds me of Robert B Parker. One of my favorites, I will miss his books. I am happy to know I can still listen to books close to his.
    Got this because of narrator
Wanted some mindless listening and the story more than delivered on the mindless but I enjoyed the narrators performance.
    Love Rick Riordan
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Good story and characters, and although this is the first in the series, the books keep getting better.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tres, the lead character, because he is so unconventional. Tai Chi master, PHD from Berkeley, a Texas boy, and a great bartender! Weird, but it works!
What about Tom Stechschultes performance did you like?
His voice is great, and the way he performs the characters
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had a few lol moments.
    Any additional comments?
As stated above, I love Rick Riordan. This is definitely more adult in nature than the Kane Chronicles or the Percy Jackson books. He knows how to write to a target age group/audience, and be relevant to that group.
    Too many characters
What did you like best about Big Red Tequila? What did you like least?
Since I am from San Antonio, I could visualize the places described in the book. There were too many characters and much of the book was spend developing them. This took away from the actual story line.
    Great story!
I grabbed this book because I had listened to some other books by the narrator. Since I enjoyed detective novels and since I'm from Texas I figured this would be a good choice. Like any first book in a series it takes a little bit to get going, but this one isn't too bad. We get into some action right on the outset. Great story!
However like another reviewer has said, sometimes it can be a bit tricky to get over the mispronunciations. For most people they won't notice, but being someone who lives in Texas it seemed to throw me off a bit every time. Otherwise a great listen.
