Publisher's Summary:
A collection of love poems - Ambrosia - for the soul. This is not a collection of sappy love poetry about how wonderful someone is. Sure, there is some of that, but this collection goes deeper, to all the shades of grey, and touches all the seasons of love. There is poetry about being in love, about loving someone from afar, about losing love, about new love, and about old love. Enjoy these poems in a warm bubble bath or cozied up by the fireplace.

Time to add some new poetry to your bookshelf!
Alice Edwards is a wonderful writer and this is a great book for anyone searching for something new and refreshing beyond the "classics." There are poems about love, love lost, and unrequited love. My personal favorite is, of course, The Love of a Friend. Do yourself a favor and pick this up!
A kaleidoscopic look at love .

The poet subtitled this collection "Poems of Love, Longing, and Romance." I think that captures the variety of voices, styles, and emotions she offers. There was so much here that I could relate to: The initial rush and inevitable disappointment of "My First Kiss". The sweet uncertainty of "Mailed My Heart" (I,um, accidentally mailed my heart / I never meant to send it / It wasn't s'posed to go / But when I mailed that letter / it slipped inside -- ya know?). There's love lost, love found, the tangled mess of loving someone when you're "just friends."
I enjoyed Edwards' use of rhyme--sometimes sing-song and childlike, sometimes more formal and controlled. There are a couple of poetic experiments that impressed me. "Beginnings and Endings" gives a series of short, startling images and then turns each one on its head to illustrate the golden beginning and painful end of a love affair. And "Hopeful Emotion" was created of excerpts taken from THE GREAT GATSBY: (For a while, I lost sight of...love / And then, in Midsummer, I found her again.)
Taken as a whole, AMBROSIA offers a poet's eye-view of love's glorious highs, heart-rending lows, and all the craziness in between.
Well Worth Reading, by anyone who has experienced love, love lost, or not returned, and found it difficult to express.
What I like about this book of love related poetry, is that not only do the poems have depth and meaning, but that like all writing that stands the test of time, it has something for every reader; that many of the poems in this collection, while clearly written based on the author's own experiences and feelings, expressed so well here, will give voice also to similar feelings each reader has experienced, but may not be able to voice as well as this author. It certainly also gives poetic evidence for the validity of the old adage: "Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all."
