Publisher's Summary:
Have you ever been bullied? Ever been abused? Ever self-harmed? Contemplated or attempted suicide? Have you lost a loved one to suicide? Do you feel alone? Do you feel there is no one out there who understands what you are going through? You are wrong.
Are You Laughing Now is a frank and honest look at bullying, abuse, self-harm, and suicide. Written from the perspective of a victim or sufferer, it explores the emotions, fears, and confusion associated with these issues. It allows those who are suffering to see that they are not alone and that someone truly does understand. It also helps those who have never suffered to realize and better understand the damage these issues can cause.
Members Reviews:
Should be mandatory reading in high school English class
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I am a high school teacher. Every day I hear and see students struggling to express the feelings contained in this poetry. The overriding feeling I hear is one of isolation. No one understands. No one cares.
But this author understands. He cares enough to bare the agony of adolescent angst and the sheer grief of being a bully's victim in raw, ragged poetry that tears at the soul.
As a teacher, I would like to see this poetry added to a freshman-level curriculum, along with the Shakespeare. I think it would do the kids a world of good to read poems they can understand about feelings they can relate to. It might lead into all kinds of healthy expression. Writing, journaling, poetry slams, and eventually a greater sense that no one is alone. Everyone feels this way. Perhaps, if we can break down the walls of shame and isolation, fewer tragedies will take place.
Thank you, Jaden Whittall, for providing this little piece of your soul to the public. I hope it helps someone. I'm going to recommend it.
