Former Brainerd Dispatch publisher Terry McCollough collected his first paycheck at the newspaper in 1959, so he was in the newsroom for some of the historical events he now shares in his daily history column, "This Was Brainerd."
McCollough has an encyclopedic knowledge of many important moments in Brainerd's history, along with the bizarre and amusing tales of some of the city's most interesting characters. In celebration of Brainerd History Week, we sit down with McCollough for a little history lesson.

Ralph Yeager parachuted over Sicily in WWII, and was a mess sergeant during the Battle of the Bulge, among a number of other experiences he had while serving in the Army. We bring you excerpts from his interview on Memorial Day weekend, in honor of the soldiers Yeager served with who lost their lives.
