EPISODE 239: The Month of Dan concludes with a return to the world of Gundam with the first movie brought to the franchise, 1981's MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM 1.

With a show that wasn't doing well, what do you do? Well, maybe combining episodes into a 3-part movie series will do the trick. That's what Mobile Suit Gundam did in the early 80's to save a new franchise from going under? Did it work? I mean, I feel that's a pretty easy question to answer. But, does this introduction of Gundam still hold up 45 years later. Dan and his son Victor are going to teach Parker a thing or two, this week on the DISSECT THAT FILM PODCAST.

The Month of Dan continues with Dan's first MONTH OF ACTION pick, 1995's GUNSMITH CATS.

From the pages of the hit Manga, to the small screen as a 4-part series then combined OVA, this is as close to an American action movie that you'll get from the world of anime. From the American muscle car, to the fact firearms are a major play, government corruption and foreign assassins', how does this not play into the month designated for ACTION! Is it underappreciated in the vast world of anime?

Over 100 years ago, a classic novel was turned into a film that would become the footnote to the world of adventure films, the art of stop-motion animation and the wonder of filmmaking as a whole. Ripped straight out of the pages of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel to the screen full of classic silent era acting and legendary effects by Willis O'Brien, what more can you say about this classic?
