  • Divas, Diamonds, & Dollars Podcast: Doing the Best You Can With What You Have

One tends to think the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Chances are, once you take a close look, their “lawn” also has bare patches, weeds, and needs fertilizer. It’s human nature to compare ourselves to others, particularly when we’re in growth mode, or more likely pre-growth mode. If such musings serve to get you off the couch and in motion, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. However, sometimes we may find ourselves mentally asking, what does she have that I don’t have? Once you start thinking someone is better, smarter, prettier, then that’s where we want to pump the brakes. Stop comparing yourself to others. We all start where we are and grow from there. Everyone’s journey is going to be different because we are all unique individuals.

    · The success journey is exactly that, a journey.

    · Don’t compare yourself to others.

    · Stay flexible.

  • Divas, Diamonds, & Dollars: Juneteenth Reflections

Have we truly "... come a long way, Baby"? So much has happened, progress has been made; still, there is so much yet to be done to achieve parity. Hasan Minhaj, in a recent stand-up skit I heard just today, reflected on being a child of immigrant parents. His viewpoint and soundbite clearly demonstrate a key expectation for those of us who were born here, that which should be our due: the audacity of equality.

Every business should have a corporate responsibility plan where they address social issues on at least a quarterly basis. This past year has made diversity, equity, and inclusion the featured eye-opening exposure of history - past, present, and future. Information has been unveiled via mass amounts of data, films, talk shows, and news hour revelations. This podcast will be presented in a reflective format where you, the audience, will consider the salient take-aways while we share this essay on life.

  • Divas Diamonds & Dollars Podcast: Accessible Wealth-Building for the Rest of Us

There has been a lot of unrest of late, and a lot of the conversation has been around the inequity of the wealth distribution in general, but also divided along racial lines. And we know that sometimes it's tough to know which way to turn, figuring things out along the way, afraid to make an expensive mistake, right? have you found yourself asking: what do the rich know that I don't know? • Divas, Diamonds & Dollars Podcast: Stay Curious, My Friends

When you get up in the morning, do you wonder: what can I learn today? Probably not, but think about how excited you would be if you knew the day held new intel, new insights, new solutions, a whole slew of new and wonderful things you didn’t know before? That might inspire you to leap out of bed with anticipation, right?

Do you know what most high achievers have in common? They follow the practice of lifelong learning. It seems almost criminal but once people leave school, the “average person” reads less than two books a year. I know it’s hard to think about studying when life gets all crazy on ya, but with the rapid pace of the world, we’ve got to keep up or get left behind.

What are you reading right now? Nothing? Okay, me either, not right this minute but I am always learning something new. I actually put “training” on my schedule and I'm also taking a leadership class although it’s taking me a wee bit longer than anticipated. Because like you, I am up to my eyebrows with empire building. But we’ve got to fit it in somehow.

If you’ve spent any time with me or read some of my work, you’d know that one of my key principles is Kaizen, which is Japanese for “continuous improvement.” Let’s talk about how to Stay Curious aka The Art of Lifelong Learning.

    1. If you’re listening to this podcast, that must mean you have a curious mind and you’re definitely into “growing and becoming” – because that’s what we’re all about.
    2. Lifelong learning doesn’t necessarily mean you have to enroll in formal education courses. Say what you will about technology, but at least it’s made learning in multi-media formats more accessible for everyone.
    3. Nurture your curiosity and thirst for personal growth through online education platforms like edx.org or coursera.org. These platforms offer the opportunity to audit classes taught by Harvard University and UC Berkeley California and many other higher institutions. The courses are actually free, although if you want the certificate of completion you do need to pay for that. But if you don’t need the certificate, just get the information!
    4. Winning with tech is great, but don’t forget the magic found between the pages of a well-written book.
    5. Push yourself to learn something new every day, for fun and for profit!

    6. Getting Your Life In Order

From our Your Money AND Your Life playlist, join us for a real conversation about making necessary preparations. We are apparently going to live forever, modern-day immortals. Until we're not. don't let your passing be an unnecessary burden to your loved ones. have those difficult conversations now so they don't have to struggle to figure out what to do after your passing.

Some years ago I read that if you have $100k in assets you need to have an estate plan. That's code for if you own a home, you definitely need to have an estate plan. If you have children or other loved ones who would mourn your passing, we recommend you take some time to make plans; today is a great day to get your affairs in order. Don't worry, we are not attorneys so we are definitely not going to take a deep dive into full estate planning. We do, however, want to leave you with some food for thought.

    7. Divas, Diamonds & Dollars Podcast: Pre-Retirement Planning for Women

Do you sometimes wonder if you’ll ever be able to retire? Sometimes it might feel like you’re going to have to work until you just keel over one day. Well, what if it doesn’t have to be that way? If you start thinking and planning now, before you get too far down the road, things just might work out.

Episode Description:  When work gets to be a grind or you just cannot face another day’s commute, we sometimes dream about retiring and traveling or spending time volunteering or other what-ifs of a distant future. People are living longer (until recently that is) and there is a real possibility of outliving one’s money. We’re healthier and better educated and likely to be around for a long time so we’d like to suggest putting some thought into the things we do need to think about and make plans to give ourselves a real chance they might work out!

      For example:

      • What expenses will you need to consider?
      • How’s your health – will you need to cover prescription costs/co-pays?
      • What would you like to do for fun?
      • Do you currently own a home?
      • Do you want to make any modifications?
      • Will you be able to pay off your mortgage?
      • Can you sell the house and use the proceeds for living expenses?
      • Have you heard of affordable housing programs? So many things to consider, right? Let's discuss.

We have a free gift for you, a Pre-Retirement Planner to get you thinking. :)
