On Sunday, December 31st, I was thrilled to have been invited back down to Portland, Oregon, to play a New Year’s Eve 2024 Trance Party at Opaline Nightclub, for the 2nd year in a row!! Opaline is a neat, kind of intimate little club in the heart of the NW “Old Town” district of downtown Portland, and it was a total blast to be down there again spinning some Trance with my old DJ buddies from yesteryear; Zoxy, Scott Vorel, and Tim Clang, guys from the old “Mission Trance” days when I had a once-a-month residency at the “Whiskey Bar” in Portland for a few years, over a decade ago.. Whiskey Bar has sadly since closed down during COVID, and ironically, I had to walk by the boarded up building where it once was, to get to Opaline, I could still feel the energy and almost hear the Oonz Oonz Oonz coming out of there like the old days, a lot of fond memories and ghosts from a better time emanating from within. As soon as I found out that my set time was from 12am to 1am, starting right after the New Year’s Champaign Toast at Midnight, I immediately knew that I needed to kick off the set with the CLASSIC “Moonlight Party” by Fonzerelli, to get a bit of that early nostalgic Tiesto “In Search of Sunrise” vibe, and to set up the total party mood to keep people dancing and on the dance floor. From there, I just decided to keep it all Classics, and played a smattering of some of my very favorite tracks, ranging from 2005 to 2016, but mostly centered around the early 20-teens, to align with that magical era when I was playing the Mission Trance at the Whiskey Bar in Portland and Foundation in Seattle, when there were SOOOOO many incredible Progressive Trance tracks coming out back then. Anyway, the DJ coming on after me took some extra time coming up to the DJ booth so I got to sneak in a few extra tracks past my 1-hour time slot, and also I ratcheted it up to some Uplifting Trance at the end, which was fun. Also, this set was RECORDED LIVE directly from the mixer at the club, and unfortunately the first track got cut off on the recording a bit.. Oh well.. On Saturday, December 23rd, I was honored to be the direct opening support for on of my all-time Fave Trance artists, Hungarian DJ/record producer, early pioneer in Trance, and beloved ANJUNA superstar, Levente Márton, better known by his stage name, SUNNY LAX. This was my 4th time opening for Levente, for which I sometimes have to pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming haha… For this particular show I was asked if I wanted the gig, and I heart-breakingly had to decline the offer because it was the day before Christmas Eve, and I was traveling to Portland, OR, that weekend to spend the Christmas holiday with my family. But thankfully, the promoter checked back one more time after I had time to think about it, so I cut my Portland trip a day short and did the show anyway. I am really glad that I did, because that night was truly a magical experience. First of all, Levente is such a dear, sweet guy and he always remembers me and gives me a big hug when he comes on stage, and he’s just such a laid back, gool dude, and so fun and inspirational for me to watch perform live. And secondly, the crowd that night was just amazing – I was worried that it might be a slow night because of the holiday weekend, but Sunny always brings them in like moths to the flame, and the club was packed with so many cool, happy people, truly in the holiday spirit and Anjunafam vibes were definitely flowing freely!! I had a lot of fun playing this set, and the tracks just seemed to flow together, with some incredible, m spine-tingly new releases, as well as a couple brand new remixes of HUGE classics, like the Ginchy Mix of Reflekt’s “Need To Feel Loved”, and the brand-new Nitrous Oxide remix of Mirco De Govia “Voller Sterne”, which the original is one of my favorite tracks of all-time. Anyway, as usual, I hope that you enjoy the set as much as I loved playing it, and keep your eye our for a new Progressive demo mix that I’ve been teasing for quite a while, as well as my set from the New Years party at Opaline in Portland, which I just returned home from today, such a blast!! On Saturday, November 18th, I was honored to be the primary support for rising star Irish Trance DJ/Producer, BILLY GILLIES, at Ora Nightclub in Seattle. It seems I have been on a roll opening for Uplifting Trance and Techno Headliners lately, which has been super fun because it allows me to tap into the higher BPM's (up to 138) which are fairly far-and-few-between opportunities for opening DJ's.. Uplifting Trance is one of my favorite genre's of electronic dance music, and what got me into Trance in the first place. I was particularly excited about this one because Billy Gillies has definitely been on my radar for the past year or so , after having first heard a set by him on the "Trance Sanctuary" monthly podcast, which follows all the big DJ's and newer, relevant names rising in the scene in the big Trance Clubs in the UK. I was super excited about his tracks and remixes, and became a fan instantly. This set was so much fun, and I got to spin for the first time with an O.G. Seattle DJ who's been around for long before I showed up in the Seattle DJ scene, Kazan. I was able to squeeze in 13 tracks into this one, which is packed from beginning to end with amazingly euphoric bangers, spiced up with a couple classics from yesteryear which still send chills down my spine to this day; the Odonbat Remix of Karybde & Scylla's "Distorted Reality", and the timeless Temple One remix of "Things That Happen" by Will Holland, such an amazing track. The audience of Trance fans at this show was super fun to play for, and Billy Gillies showed up with a huge entourage of friends and fans that had followed him from playing three sets at Dreamstate down in LA just a few days before. Billy was a super friendly and humble guy, and it was a real honor to meet him and hand the decks off to this amazingly talented guy. This will likely be my last headliner opening show for the year, but I do have NYE show lined up in Portland, which should be a lot of fun, and I hope to have another Progressive House demo mix finished before Christmas, so keep your eye out for those! Hey guys, sorry for the long delay, but just uploaded my set from back on October 6th, opening for GANESH, a Trance and Techno OG West Coast DJ/Producer and very early adopter to the LA Trance Rave scene in the 90’s. This was a real treat to be able open for such a well-known “semi-local” pioneer and influencer on the underground Ravey Techno/Trance sounds, and a staple DJ on the festival line-up’s like Dreamstate. I got to hand off the decks to Ganesh, whom was a super nice, humble, and intellectual guy, and a literal “mad scientist” when it came to mixing haha; it was mesmerizing and inspirational watching his hands expertly fly around all the effects as he wove his magical dark techno beats. My newish DJ buddy, Bryan Keyes, newcomer to the Seattle Trance scene from Alaska, opened the club and threw down an awesome set as well. I always love these opportunities to open for these 140+ BPM DJ’s because it allows me to play up to 138 BMP Trance, which isn’t common for openers to be able to play that fast, but one of my favorite genre’s and what originally lured me into Trance in the first place, uplifting 138 BPM Trance bangers!! I lucked out because I wanted to have a bit of a classic Trance element to this set because of Ganesh’s tenure in the scene, and there just happened to be several hot new remixes recently released of some uber-classic sounds, like the Emery vs Brisky Remix of Nu NRG’s “Dreamland”, Maria Healy’s remix of BT’s “Godspeed”, and Cosmic Boys’ new remix of the timeless “Café Del Mar” by Energy 52, which I kicked the set off with.. Plus, so many other great recently released tracks, and Ganesh let me spin one final track past my set time while he got set up, so I was able to squeeze 13 tracks into this bad boy. Hey guys, this is the latest iteration of my Progressive demo set series, called "October Prog". I aspire to have this be a monthly podcast release, doesn't always work out that way with work and other "life" things that get in the way time-wise, not to mention that I am extremely picky about track selection for these sets, which can sometimes be hit-or-miss. However, I am very happy with the way this one turned out, and there are SO many great tracks on this mix. I just recently went to Japan on vacation for 10 days and was hoping to get this one done before I left. I recorded a version of it however it wasn't quite ready, but I listened to it a ton while in Japan, and as soon as I got back, I made some changes, even swapped out a few tracks with some new gems that released while I was abroad, and ended up with this. I'll have my Uplifting Trance opening set from the GANESH show uploaded next, and I'll also be opening for Irish Trance DJ/Producer, Billy Gillies, on November 17th at Ora, which I am really excited about. Anyway, this mix has pretty much been on constant rotation for my daily playlist, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I had fun recording it!! BTW, the photo is one I took during my Japan trip, from a botanical garden in Kobe called “Herb Garden” which was this really neat place that you had to take a gondola ride up to and then hike down the long trails of flowers and herbs. On Friday, September 22nd, I was honored to open for rising ASOT & Anjuna star, Dutch Trance and Progressive artist, Laura Van Dam. This show was called “Vivid Presents a Vue Takeover feat. Laura Van Dam with DEPTH & Friends”, so it was at a new Seattle club for me that I hadn’t ever been to before, and it was amazing!! This was also my very first time playing for Vivid Presents, so it was a super great honor for me to be the primary opener spot and hand off the decks to Laura herself!! On top of everything else, it was Laura’s birthday too, so it was a party. As mentioned, this was my first time at Vue Lounge, and the club was packed, even when I showed up at 9:30pm, and by the time I went on there was such a magical Trance Fam vibe going on, so many smiling faces and people dancing, arms in the air. They had the DJ booth kind of right there on the dance floor, so you were right there with the people, which was an interesting and invigorating experience to be out in the open like that. Vue had three stages going on, what a neat venue with a totally different vibe at each room, but amazing DJ’s at each with different varieties of hard techno and electro house. Laura was super humble and sweet and it was such an honor to meet and hand the decks off her, and her set was totally fun to dance to. It was also fun to share this adventure with my two fellow opener DJ buddies, Isabel Rose and Bryan Kyes, who also played some killer supporting Trance sets. I was really happy with the way this set turned out and there were so many great prog-trance tracks that just released from some of my main go-to Trance Fave producers, such as Dan Stone, Nitrous Oxide, David Broaders, Kyau & Albert, Darren Tate, Aimoon, and more.. I was like a kid in a candy shop and I was able to cram 14 tracks into 1 hour haha. Such a cool night, thank you so much to Vivid for having me out to spin some Trance!!! This is "Part 2" B2B opening set from Friday, July 7th, where I was incredibly honored to be on the opening roster for a UK Trance Legend, JOHN ASKEW, at Ora Seattle!!! Once again, I was able to join my dear buddy from Portland, Zoxy, behind the decks for a B2B ("back-to-back") set, and we had the distinct honor of handing off the decks to John Askew, whom both Zoxy and I had been a fan of since the very early days of Trance in the 90’s. I am calling this set “Part 2” because I had already played for an hour before this with another great DJ buddy of mine, Eric Weber, a.k.a. WEB for an unplanned B2B set to open the club. We were filling in for another DJ who was not feeling well that night unfortunately, but it was a unique opportunity to play for 2 hours and kick off the night with a cool progressive set with Eric, then ratchet it all the way up to 138 BPM’s to get the club heated up for John Askew, which was a lot of fun. It was an amazing evening of incredible music, and the crowd of Trance fans there to see John Askew was SO much fun to play for.. For this one, Zoxy and I played a mixture of some brand-new releases, as well as a few older, more vintage Trance Choones from yesteryear, and I even busted out “Call The Galaxy Taxi” by Plastic Angel, such a classic from the early 2000’s that sounded SOOO awesome on the club sound system, and we had the dance floor jumping up and down a few times. Anyway, incredible night, and once again, being able to hand off to John Askew was a true honor. On Friday, July 7th, I was beyond honored to be on the opening roster for a UK Trance pioneer who’s been making a waves in the club industry since the early 90’s underground rave scene in England, and has held residencies at some of the world's most influential clubs such as The Gallery, Cream, and Ministry of Sound, JOHN ASKEW, at Ora, Seattle!!! My dear DJ buddy from Portland, Deejay Zoxy, was visiting us in Seattle and I was booked to do a B2B set with him to hand off to this legend John Askew, and the opener/opener was another good buddy of mine, the fabulous Mike Honcho (a.k.a. Mikel Bralley). Unfortunately, Mikel was under the weather that night, so I ended up doing another last-minute and fully unplanned B2B set to open the club, this time with yet ANOTHER dear DJ buddy of mine and also the promoter at the club, Eric Weber, a.k.a. WEB. So instead of playing an hour set, I was up there for 2 hours before John Askew came out on stage and delivered a blistering set of main floor Uplifting Trance to blow the roof off for a packed club. It was such a fun evening of awesome music, and the crowd was amazing that night!! I decided to break this up into the two individual B2B sets, starting with this one with WEB, and I should have my B2B with Zoxy up here pretty soon as well. For this one, Eric and I hung in the deeper progressive house zone while the club filled up, and we have a mixture of some pretty brand-new releases and remixes, as well as a selection older, more vintage proggy choones from yesteryear. Anyway, had a total blast, and being able to hand off the decks to Mr. Askew himself was a true “Bucket Lister” for me haha. Hey guys, Happy July!! Can’t believe it’s already practically mid-summer already.. Well, as sure as the world keeps turning, I keep acquiring more and more music and messing around with it on the decks, and if I don’t happen to luck out and get a club gig opening for an artist that matches well with the sets I am working on at the time, I’ll just create a “demo set” and record it on my gear in my home studio to get this lovely music out there for people to enjoy! So once again, I have a brand-new demo mix of some chill and mesmerizing, mostly progressive and organic house, maybe a few tracks bordering on a little more progressive trancey sounds, but this was intended to be a deep and chillax mix to sit back and soak in some sun, hopefully with an amazing view and an icy cocktail haha.. This is mostly new stuff, which I try to always use brand new material on each mix (unless I am doing a classics mix of course haha) but I did bring back three tracks that I’ve played previously, two in recent live gigs, and one from a demo I did quite a while back that’s never left my mind, because, to me, this is about as perfect of a set I can ever aspire to do as far as the amazing tracks that are on it, and I wanted to immortalize these three tracks that I still seek out to listen to because I love them so much, namely, the catchy "Don’t Forget the Parachute” by Not Now Please, PROFF's magical "Light Magic”, and the eternally mesmerizing “Alya” by Maiga, all on one demo mix to enjoy together. But I literally LOVE every track on this set, and I hope you do too. The very last track, A.M.R.’s “Got A Feeling”, I really lucked out with because he played it on a recent Monstercat/Silk Music Showcase and he said it wasn’t going to be released until his artist album towards the end of the summer, but it just magically appeared in Beatport right when I was finalizing my playlist for this set, so I snagged it and snuck it in at as the last track. Hey guys! Well, I’ve been working in the background on this next iteration of the “White Label” Classic Trance series, number 5, for the past month or so, and every time I record another one of these I worry whether I’ll have enough good material that will continue to motivate me to keep mixing these, and once again I re-reminded myself that there’s no shortage of amazing tracks that were produced pre 2010-ish, which is where I wanted to draw the line to keep this more about “classic” and “yesteryear” theme for the series. In fact, out of the 15 tracks on this mix I had to narrow that down from about 60 tracks that I still have left in the hopper from my original scan through my collection of the older stuff. Really happy with the way this one turned out, and I re-reminded myself about some of the hidden gems that I’ve totally forgotten about, like the Photon Project Remix of Andain’s “Beautiful Things”, that’s from 2003!!! I wouldn’t have been surprised if that was a brand new release, what an incredible remix of that track and from TWENTY years ago, and most people probably never even heard it. I also got to mix up a “dream team” list of some of my all-time FAVE vintage instrumental Uplifting Trance tracks, all back-to-back, like “Desert Eagle, “Northern Lights”, “Chime”, and “Aurora”, all on one mix, it’s almost TOO much Trance goodness in one mix, but I did it anyway.. I hope you’ll forgive me haha. I almost fainted from the adrenaline rush while playing those tracks together, such incredible memories and amazingly spine-tingly tracks, not to mention so many others, “Velvet Morning”, “Hold On To Me”, “Bass Society”, “Air for Life”, and I’ll never forget hearing Paul Oakenfold playing “Nice Guys Finish Last” but at a much faster speed, and was amazed that it was actually an amazing Trance track when played faster… And all the way from 1999, the iconic Fragma, and of course, “Gamemaster”, with the timeless famale vocal that helps me so vividly imagine our beautiful planet Earth a million years ago, so pure and untainted by mankind, so much awesomeness… Anyway, I’ll shut up an let you listen, and BTW, I will be opening for one of the artists on this mix, JOHN ASKEW, in July, so really looking forward to that one, definitely a bucket-lister for me haha.
