  • Opening set for RINALY, Ora Nightclub, Seattle, Saturday, May 20th, 2023
On Saturday, May 20th, I was extremely honored to be the primary opener for Japanese DJ and music producer, RINALY, at Ora Nightclub, Seattle. You may have seen Rinaly at one of the giant Trance festivals around the globe, and she has performed in renowned clubs such as Zouk Singapore, Colosseum Jakarta, as well as major international events such as Amsterdam Dance Event, EDC Las Vegas, Japan & China. She’s been producing Trance for the past decade and seen several of her singles hit the top Trance charts on Beatport. Rinaly in fact flew directly from this year’s EDC in Las Vegas to Seattle to play with us at Ora that night, and it was so cool to meet her in person. She was quite humble and sweet (and also very tall!), in fact on my last track I noticed something out of the corner of my eye and she was waiting at the bottom of the DJ booth stairs for me to invite her up, which was hilarious to me and very cute; most headliners just barge their way onto the stage and shove us openers aside. Haha just kidding (mostly) but I thought that was very humble and endearing. Anyway, since Rinaly plays uplifting Trance, 138-140+, the promoter told me I could play up to 136, which we rarely get to play in clubs. So as you’ll soon hear, I took full advantage of that and cranked it up to 136 for most of the set and got to play a lot of my favorite go-to Trance artists, such as Temple One, Ultimate, DJ T.H., and Alex Wright, plus a bunch of other amazingly uplifting tracks, and kicked it off with the brand new Myon remix of JODA’s “Breaking Down the Walls” which I was SOOOO excited to hear on the club sound system , such a crazy awesome track. Anyway, as usual, hope you enjoy the set as much as I did playing it!! Cheers!! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

  • “Summer Prog – May 2023 ” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live May 19th, 2023
On Friday, May 19th, I recorded a demo set of some dreamy, relaxing proggy stuff that I have been listening to and collecting for the past couple months, literally to upload to dropbox so I could listen to it in the backyard BBQ’ing on a beautiful, early summer evening haha, the night before the Rinaly show at Ora, which was last Saturday (AND, a totally awesome time!!! My set should also be uploaded sometime soon). I actually did try to record this once before several weekends before that but I didn’t like a few things about it and cut the recording off midway through, but this time it turned out pretty cool, so I thought I would share. Just a random hodge-podge of beautiful tracks that make me feel a certain special way, kind of happy/sad, but hopeful, and I hope it gives you the same feeling. Cheers!! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

  • “White Label ” a Classic Trance demo mix: 004, recorded live May 13th, 2023
Hey guys, well here it is, # 4 on my Classic Trance series, White Label!! I’ve been working on this one for weeks and finally recorded a take that I liked last Saturday on May 13th, and have been listening to it non-stop ever since haha. I really had to play with the track order on this one, but I think I finally got the right blend of vocal and instrumental uplifting trance, and if you’re a fan of the classics you’ll for sure recognize some of these gems from yesteryear, as well as maybe hear a few that are a little more off the beaten path that you may have missed, like Terradia - Drowning in Dreams, I bought that on MP3 in the mid-2000’s and I don’t believe it’s still available anywhere, was so great to dig that one out and hear it again!! So many of these other tracks I haven’t listened to in 10 or 15 years, so many huge tracks and artists from yesteryear that give me goosebumps still to this day.. It's actually really shocking, the shelf-life on all these songs, especially once I’ve gone out and repurchased them as lossless files, they (to me) sound even better now than they perhaps did back then, they just keep getting better with age. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with the journey to record this set and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed playing it!! I’ll probably be able to make 2-3 more of these before I run out of classics that I am passionate about, so look for those over the following months. And BTW, I will be opening for Japanese rising star Trancer, the lovely, RINALY, this weekend at ORA Nightclub in Seattle, and I will be playing some Uplifting Trance for that one in the low 130's, a bit faster than I usually get to play live, so CAN’T WAIT for that one haha!! Hope to see you there.. Cheers!! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

  • Opening set for SUNNY LAX, Ora Nightclub, Seattle, April 29th, 2023
On, Saturday, April 29th, I was beyond honored to be the primary support for easily one of my all-time favorite Trancers, Anjuna star and true prodigy Trance pioneer from the earlier days, Hungarian DJ/record producer, Levente Márton, better know by his stage name, SUNNY LAX. This is one of those “pinch myself am I dreaming??” moments because this is the 3rd time I’ve been on the opening roster for Sunny Lax, which is 3x more than I could have even hoped for haha, and it’s always such a pleasure to see this genuinely friendly, humble, and sweet fellow again, let alone warm up the decks for him. What an honor!! I was joined by Bryan Kyes on the opening crew, a new edition to the Seattle Trance DJ Fam, and Bryan kicked us off with a classic trance set, and I carried on from there with this, a mixture of euphoric Progressive and Trance, and threw in a little side excursion of some beatsy techno tracks because I was in the mood to hear some driving bass, hope you don’t mind haha!! Anyway, as usual, it was a totally fun night at Ora and the crowd was amazing and the Anjuna Fam love was in the air. Hope you enjoy the set, and also just a heads-up that I am pretty far along on the next iteration of the "White Label Trance Classics" series, # 4, hoping to record it this weekend.. And lastly, I'm excited to be opening for rising Japanese big room Trance star, the absolutely lovely, RINALY, at Ora Nightclub on May 20th, so be looking for that one later this month.. Cheers!! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

  • “White Label” a Classic Trance demo mix: 003, recorded live Apr. 22, 2023
Hey guys!! Well I've been plugging away at this White Label Classic Trance series and managed to finally record a take that I liked last Sunday, so here it is, after something like 15 attempts to record it and endless rearranging and being unsatisfied and going back to the drawing board again and again messing with it haha.. It's always worth the effort though, and I have really appreciated all the nice comments in support of this classics series, as well as it's personally a lot of fun for me to mix this stuff, from back when Trance was still pretty new and raw, and all the memories it conjures up from perhaps a simpler, happier time, for me at least. BTW, I already have White Label 4 almost figured out, and figure I have enough classic trance that I am still passionate about to keep the series going for at least another 3-4 iterations, so if you like this stuff please let me know in the comments, and/or if there are tracks that you miss from yesteryear that you'd like to possibly hear in this series. Really like the way this one turned out, and I hope that you do too!! Until next time, Cheers, and I hope you enjoy the mix!! Mark a.k.a. Gotek PS: I will be the direct opener for Sunny Lax at Ora in Seattle this coming Saturday, so expect to see that set up here sometime soon, can't WAIT!!! =)

  • Zoxy + Gotek B2B opening set for John O’Callahan, Ora, Seattle, Fri, Mar 24th, 2023
On Friday, March 24th, I was super excited and honored to not only be opening for Irish Trance legend and pioneer, JOHN O’CALLAHAN, but also to be back behind the decks doing a B2B set with one of my oldest and dearest Trance DJ buddies, the promoter that offered my very first gig and chance to open for a world-class Trance headliner, (The BLIZZARD, at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, 11 years ago in 2012!!) which made everything else after that possible, for which I will eternally owe him my endless gratitude for making my DJ dreams come true, my dear Serbian buddy, Zoran, better known as ZOXY. What a night, that’s all I can say. The club was packed for John O’Callahan, and it was packed early so even us opener DJ’s had a packed dance floor to play to, and it was so much fun. It is now just a blur of laughing and high-fiving and hugs and a bunch of smiling people with their hands in the air, which is about as good as it gets. Anyway, B2B sets are always fun, and also challenging to try to figure out how to mix in the next track on an unrehearsed set. This one has some amazing tracks and also a few unreleased bootlegs/mashups. I hope you enjoy the set as much as we enjoyed playing it!! Cheers!! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

  • “White Label” a Classic Trance demo mix: 002, recorded live March 5th, 2023
Hey guys, well, I had SO much fun recording the first White Label Classic trance mix, and received a lot of much-appreciated positive feedback on it, that I AM BACK with another Classic Uplifting Trance mix for ya, with White Label 002!! I really dug deep on this one and used even more MP3’s than on the first one because some of this stuff is so rare it’s no longer available to purchase, and/or only released on vinyl. I did my best with sound leveling to make sure the recording volume is consistent from track to track, but some of this still stuff is just so old that it wasn’t great sound quality, hopefully it sounds okay. I had to take several tries at recording this and really had to play with the tracks and placement, but I think I got it right in the end, however I’ll let you be the judges haha. One thing I noticed is I heavily indexed on Ronski Speed on this set, but truth be told it was really Ronski’s sound that I obsessed with in the early years of building interest in Trance, and we have a lot to thank Ronski for in all of his pioneering and influence in this uplifting trance sound in the very early days, some of my very favorite stuff of all-time. Also loaded it up with some other golden oldies and rare gems and I really like the way this one turned out. Hoping you do too, and please LMK in comments etc, if you like this “classics” stuff I’ll keep recording them for you guys.. Cheers, and hope you enjoy the mix! Mark, a.k.a. Gotek

  • Opening set for GENIX, Ora Nightclub, Seattle, Feb 11th, 2023
On Saturday, February 11th, I was honored to be the primary support opening DJ for world-renown Anjuna star, Progressive and Techno UK record producer and DJ, Damion Houchen, better known by his stage name, GENIX. I am lucky enough to have opened for GENIX twice now, the first time was at a club in Seattle called The Underground, which was a super fun little 200-person club and unfortunately is no longer open due to COVID, but this time it was at ORA, which is one of the coolest clubs in Seattle, and the crowd there that night for GENIX was truly something special. I had a ton of friends show up to the show as well so it's always extra fun to play a set and look down from the DJ booth to see a bunch of smiling faces of people you know, that is the best feeling. GENIX was such a sweetheart, and the Anjuna and Trance Fam vibes were so magical that evening. I had kind of an eclectic set that night that bounced around from some more organic sounding house to trance to progressive house to more trance haha, but it all seemed to fall together quite nicely and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it, so I hope that you do too, at least as much as I enjoyed playing it!! Cheers, and hope to see you on the dancefloor sometime soon!! -Mark, a.k.a. GOTEK

  • “White Label” a Classic Trance demo mix: 001, recorded live Feb 13th, 2023
So, I’ve hinted that this mix was coming on my Gotek FB page etc, but I’ve noticed that I’ve been gravitating to my collection of much older, “vintage”, Uplifting Trance tracks (early-to-mid 2000’s, before 2010), many of which I originally purchased on vinyl, some of which were only ever released in vinyl format, back in the day when I would hear something on DI.FM and frantically search the internet for it, when you often times would be paying $15-$30 bucks for a “white label” piece of vinyl to be shipped to you from Europe somewhere, long before the convenience of the Internet and paying $2.50 for immediate gratification to download a lossless file. Back in the days when Trance was still forming, when the tracks were 8-9 minutes long and sounded rawer and more primitive, but still some of the most spine-tingly stuff I have ever heard. Well, a couple of weekends ago I decided to record a classics mix on the CDJ's to listen to later from Dropbox (something I do once in a while for music to listen to in the backyard while I was BBQ’ing, etc). So I went to my music collection and sorted by date, and was frankly surprised how many MP3’s I had that had no date or other metadata because they were so old, so I compiled a list of tracks I hadn’t heard in many years, and this is what I ended up with. Truth be known, I did go back and repurchase many of these tracks in AIFF (lossless) format from Beatport, because some of those ancient MP3’s just didn’t have the sound quality I needed, but there still were several MP3’s used to mix this set from tracks that weren’t available to re-buy as lossless files anywhere online. This mix has been professionally sound-leveled, and preserved in the original WAV format that I recorded it in, for that added punch of sound quality on those extra old files, but I also sort of don't mind the MP3's for the extra emphasis on that "vintage" (slightly crappy) sound quality anyway haha. For me, this mix really brought back a lot of fond memories from a couple decades ago, when Uplifting Trance was much newer and pure, still just coalescing and finding it's place, and the feelings it conjures up are pure magic. I called this one “White Label”, and plan to have a vintage Trance series of the same now. I hope you feel the same way as I do when you hear it, enjoy!! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek PS: I always thought Menno De Jong’s “Intuition (Summer Event '07 Theme)” needed an extra breakdown after he teases you with it then just ends the track haha.. So I added some hot cues ands chopped it up on the CDJ's and added it myself!! So there, Menno!! =)

  • “Introspections” a Deep Progressive demo mix, recorded live Jan 31st, 2023
So, this mix was intended to be an experiment, just to play with some deep progressive and organic house tracks that I have compiling for my next (hopefully) progressive house opening set, which is at this time a primary support spot for GENIX on Feb 11th, which I am very excited about!! Most of these tracks ended up being a bit too mellow for my Genix set, but I did manage to hit “record” on my digital recorder before I played it, just so I could listen to this later while working or driving, etc, my favorite times to listen to more introspective, thought and emotion-provoking music. After I listened to it a few times I realized that this set actually turned out kinda special, the tracks really went well together, so thought I would post it as a demo set anyway, just in case anyone else might enjoy it as well. One thing to call out is the opening track “Last of Us” by Vintage & Morelli, I actually bought a few years ago and believe it or not this is actually a 100 BPM track, which is insanely slow for a DJ set, e.g. usually the very lowest I will go would be in the neighborhood of 118 BPM or so, but I could hear that this track has these amazing qualities that probably would be better consumed at faster BPM’s and I always wanted to experiment with it, like I finally did on this set! I love how it sounds at 116 BPM, the very fastest I could speed it up on my CDJ’s, and it almost has that “Grand Theft Auto 3” opening track vibe (only PC gamers will get that reference haha), so chill and layered with euphoric complexity, albeit the ocean wave sounds towards the end sound quite ridiculous speeded up that fast haha.. oh well.. Oh!! And also, I chopped up the Forty Cats' beauty, "Zen", with hot cues a bit, because I needed to hear that beautiful piano breakdown more than just once haha.. Anyway, thought I would explain some of the background on this one, if anyone even reads these things haha. If you ARE reading this, I hope you enjoy this peaceful set, “Introspections”. Cheers! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek
