On Saturday, April 30th, 2022, I was honored to be on the opening roster to perform a B2B (back-to-back) set, paired up with my long-time Seattle DJ friend, the lovely Janice Chae, a.k.a. J-NOTE, for none other than one of the true Godfathers of the Trance scene, legendary UK Trance artist and record producer, PAUL OAKENFOLD. Truth be known, it was Paul Oakenfold that originally sent me spiraling into the world of Trance, from which I never have emerged again, in 1998 when I first heard his album “Tranceport” at Disney World in Orlando, FL. That album blew my mind and it sent me into this mad frenzy to find more and more of this music called Trance, which led me down the rabbit hole to other artists over the next few years like Tiesto, Mirco de Govia, Ronski Speed, Kyau & Albert, NuNRG, Andy Moor, Mike Shiver, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Gate, and eventually Above & Beyond, ANJUNA, etc, but that whole journey for me had a definitive starting point, “the Big Bang” as it were, and for me that was Paul Oakenfold… So, this show really felt like a going the full circle for me, and was just a really amazing night. It was also my good friend Eric Weber’s birthday, and he DJ’d an amazing all-classics Birthday set right after us, so it was truly a night to remember, and the club was totally packed with Trance fans and had an incredible energy to play to. Janice and I didn’t rehearse this set, we just set rough guidelines for general BPM and feel, and to try to have tracks that were easier to mix into, but what you hear on this set is what we figured out organically as we played through our 70-minute time slot. It was a total blast, and getting to “open for” and actually meet Paul Oakenfold was a definite bucket list item checked off for me. What a night!! On Friday, April 1st, I was beyond humbled and honored to be the single opening DJ for a world-class Trancer from the Netherlands, who’s been a pioneer and influencer on the Uplifting Trance genre for nearly 20 years, one whom I’ve been a huge fan of since the early 2000’s, MENNO DE JONG. Menno intended to do his “Farewell Tour” before the pandemic hit, and he had to postpone it until now, but this is basically his last tour around the globe and he’s going to be trying to spend more time with his family and focus on other interests. Seattle was his first stop on the US leg of his tour, and it was such a “bucket-lister” for me to be able to play this show and hand off the decks to this legend. I tried to put together a euphoric, vibey set for this one and build it into a Trancey finish, and basically had to rework the entire set twice to fit the hot new Sound Quelle remix of Audien’s ”One Last Dance” in there (sort of seemed appropriate for the Menno farewell tour), but I really liked how this one turned out, and it was awesome seeing the dancefloor fill and people dancing and cheering during the set. I really hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed playing it, and wishing the very best of luck to Menno and his future adventures in life, the global Trance scene is eternally grateful to this guy!! On January 29th, 2022, I was honored to be on the opening roster for UK Trance legend and true pioneer from the very early days of Trance music, JOHN OO FLEMING, at Ora Nightclub, Seattle. This was another one of those "Pinch me, am I dreaming?" moments for me haha, as I have been a fan of JOOF since way back at the beginning when I first started to discover this world of Trance and Progressive, so it was such a thrill to be able to warm up the CDJ's for this incredibly talented individual, whom has truly stood the test of time, and has contributed so much to the Trance scene over the past couple decades. Anyway, it's been a while for me, with COVID going around I haven't been going out to many shows, and haven't had an opportunity to play live since the Sunny LAX show back in October. So, on top of the thrill of seeing John OO perform live for the first time ever, it was just so great to see so many familiar, smiling faces and friends having a good time on the dancefloor, and to finally start feeling alive again. I loaded this set up with some gems that I have been listening to and collecting over the past few months, and it was such a fun set to play. On Friday, October 29th, 2021, I was incredibly honored to be the direct opener for one of my all-time FAVE Anjuabeats artists, Hungarian Trance music and Progressive House producer, Levente Márton, better known by his stage name, SUNNY LAX, for his stop-over in Seattle on his North American tour. This was Halloween weekend so it was so much fun playing to an audience all dressed up in the Halloween costumes, and to see all the amazing Anjunafam support and love for our special guest that night. This was my second time opening for Levente, and it’s just hard to describe what a genuinely friendly, humorous, and sweet guy he is, so impressed by him, not to mention an incredibly talented and influential artist who’s been cranking out some of the world's best Trance for the past 15 years.. On Saturday, September 18th, 2021, I was incredibly honored to open for a couple of my long-time top favorites and two incredibly talented individuals who’s songs have been featured in so many of my sets; rising star Canadian progressive house DJ/producer, Derek Silvester, a.k.a.. DEZZA, and French electronic dance music prodigy, David Ciekanski, better known by his stage name, MATT FAX, who basically began writing music at the age of 13 and encountered early success with support from renowned DJs and artists around the world, such as Depeche Mode, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery. On top of everything else, while I was playing my set, which by the way was the first set played on Ora’s newly installed EAW sound system, which sounded absolutely incredible, one of the first people out on the dance floor watching the set was this tall dude wearing an Anjuna t-shirt, whom I later discovered was none other than Devon Ausman, otherwise known as HAUSMAN, another one of my all-time favorites whom had driven all the way from Boise, ID, to see the show, and whom I got to meet and talk to after my set. It was so incredible to meet these guys, and talk to them about their music, ask them questions and learn about their backgrounds, that was such a thrill for me. I was truly in the presence of Progressive/Trance greatness. On Friday, August 22nd, I was honored to take part in what turned out to be an incredibly fun private party weekend event up in Bellingham, WA; the "High Vibes Weekend-er", put on by this arts and wellness organization called Evergreen Flow Events. This sort of rave-esque party took place literally way out in the untamed countryside, outside the college town of Bellingham, on the grounds of this amazing private compound, and people camped and enjoyed a variety of outdoor music and activities throughout the weekend. This included DJ’s at night in a really cool outbuilding that was equipped with a massive, club-quality sound system, club lighting, and even lasers and a fog machine, plus lots great people dancing in their eclectic costumes, having fun. The closest thing I could compare it to would be a Burning Man “burner”-type event, if you're familiar, the whole outside and camp grounds was lit up with ambient neon-lit art pieces and an assortment of decorative lights hanging from trees and tents, it was really quite magical looking at night. I wasn’t really sure what to expect as this was my first time to this annual event, and up in that area in general, but I ended up being really thankful that I took the chance to be a part of this thing, and I met a lot of really interesting, artistic, talented, cool people, and was inspired by a lot of great DJ’s & awesome electronic dance music. My set time was Midnight-1pm and I was asked to kind of “bring it” with some more bangin' prime-time Trance, and this is the set I ended up with, which fortunately, people really seemed to love.. On Friday, August 19th, I was incredibly honored to be on the opening roster for Canadian Anjunadeep rising star, SIMON DOTY, at Q Nightclub in Seattle. This was such a fun show, and ironically just the weekend before I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the only opener for Cosmic Gate on a Seattle DJ boat cruise around Lake Washington called “Sunset Session on the HIYU”, and the two Simon Doty tracks I played during that set were probably my favorite in the whole mix, so Simon was already on my radar as being one of my favorite new up-and-coming DJ/producers out there, and to hand off the decks to him was a total blast and honor, super nice and humble guy, and his set was incredibly mesmerizing, so much so that most everyone stayed until the very end on a Thursday night, me included! I shared the decks with a couple other great DJ’s that night, Oxymoron (a.k.a. Alex Henkens, a good buddy of mine and a great producer in his own right, formerly known as FFM), and Tommy T. It was my first time playing at Q Nightclub, located in Capital Hill, Seattle, a beautiful, large club with an amazing sound system, and the crowd that night was super amazing and supportive, fun to play to, and as usual, yet another unforgettable evening.. I knew Simon plays at around 123-125-ish, so I played a really down-tempo and ethereal deep progressive set and it seemed to resonate with he audience that evening, which was awesome. On Saturday, August 14th, THIS was a big one for me….. I was beyond honored to find out, just one week before this event, which I already had purchased tickets for, that I would be the opening DJ for world-renown German Trance legend, Nic Chagall of COSMIC GATE, on the “Sunset Sessions on the HIYU” DJ Cruise, Saturday, August 14th, 2021. I am pretty much speechless about this one, almost impossible to describe this amazing day, but also it was a really cool "full circle" for me because Cosmic Gate was my very first opener show in Seattle on May 11th, 2013, at club a called Foundation, just a few years after I moved up here, so it was such an honor to be able to share the decks with Cosmic Gate again after all these years. This show sold out in 3 minutes, so unfortunately there were a lot of people who wanted to go that couldn’t, but for those whom were able to attend, it was such a perfect NW summer day out on the beautiful Lake Washington and Elliott Bay, with such a special group of amazing friends and Trance Family that attended, the euphoric vibes were through the roof....truly a magical experience that I will never forget.. Originally, I was told I would be playing from 4:30-5:30pm, then it was off to the Cosmos, but my set got lengthened by over 20 minutes, so by the time I handed the decks off to Nic the cruise was well underway, and it was such a thrill seeing all the people dancing and having a great time to my set. I’m still kind of walking on clouds from that day, it really seemed like it was just a dream, just a bunch beautiful smiling faces, high fives, pats on the back, sweaty hugs, and a blur of amazing music and beautiful water scenery. Brand new!! On Thursday, July 29th, I was invited to spin a guest set alongside my good DJ buddy, Chris Paape, at Suite Lounge in Bellevue, WA. If you’ve been listening to my sets for a while, you may recognize Chris’s name because Chris had this kind of legendary party every year, the “Chris Paape Cabana Party” which was held at the boat house at his condo on Lake Sammamish, with this crazy amazing view of the lake and all the DJ gear out on the deck facing the water, and it was an all-day party with a bunch of Seattle’s fave local Trance/Progressive DJ’s spinning house and progressive in late July; it was always such an amazing time, and I was SO fortunate to have been able to spin at this event several times over the years. Unfortunately, Chris has moved away and those parties ended 4 years ago, but recently everyone on Facebook was reminiscing about how much they missed these parties. Out of the blue, Chris contacted me and said he was in town, and arranged for us to spin a deep progressive set at this cool, sexy little cocktail lounge in the heart of Bellevue, and it was short notice, but I made it work, and we had such a fun time with a small group of friends that showed up and the rest of the people who were just randomly lucky enough to have been there that night to hear 2.5 hours of this amazing music. I was really happy that this happened because this was probably the exact set I would have played at Chris’s Cabana party, had there been one this year… Anyway, we did a B2B set, 3 on, 3 off, but the next day I recorded all my tracks into one set in the exact order that I played them in, and this is it. Brand New!! On Saturday, July 17th, I finally got around to recording a new Hi-NRG, Uplifting 138 BPM Trance demo mix that's been on my mind for a while, and it was so much fun to finally be able to spin it live. This was a one-time play through, no rehearsing, just did my best to arrange the tracks harmonically and according to energy build, had to do a couple key hops to make it work, nothing too drastic, and this is what I ended up with. I am always paying attention to and buying Uplifting/138, mostly just to listen to, as this is the Trance genre that first really hooked me and got me listening to Trance back in the late 90's, and I've never looked back. Of course I mostly only get to play much slower Progressive tracks in the clubs, but this is my guilty pleasure that I'll forever have a weak spot in my heart for.. Uplifting 138. I got to feature a lot of amazing, fresh new Uplifting Trance from some of my FAVE go-to Trance artists such as Temple One, Dan Stone, Ronski Speed, Will Atkinson, Suncatcher, and even snuck in a lovely, classic old fave CHOON of mine from 2007, "Morning Light" by Nitrous Oxide; still gives me chills down my spine after all these years haha..
