DJ Gotek

Brand new!! Just uploaded this set that I recorded on the 4th of July, and it’s a combination of emotive, euphoric, summery-vibe tracks that I just loved. This mix was inspired by the joyous feelings we’re experiencing of finally coming out of COVID lock-down, being able to see friends and family and even people’s smiles again (w/o masks), and it just so happened that I went to see my very first DJ show on June 30th, which was also the day that the State of Washington removed most COVID-19 restrictions. To coincide with that ceremonious occasion, we had Anjunadeep rising star, Tom Marshall, a.k.a. MARSH, for the FIRST “Sunset Sessions On the Hiyu” DJ boat cruise since the pandemic began, and also my first show, of any sort whatsoever, since then as well. I am cautiously optimistic that life is returning back to normal, but I can’t imagine a more perfect event to have kicked it off than seeing Marsh play live out on the water in the lovely Puget Sound. I took that draw-bridge picture for the cover art for this mix from that very boat cruise as well! Anyway, I had been working on this demo set for a while and got to play it live at my DJ buddy Eric Weber’s annual DJ BBQ down in Tacoma, which was a blast, and also submitted a version of it for a guest DJ mix for DJ friend in Portland's “PFB Radio” podcast, but I really liked how this set turned out, and I hope you like it too. I know COVID is still here and not everyone is out of the woods yet, so no matter where you're located, just stay positive my friends, make sure to get vaccinated if you haven’t already (if you’re able to), and we’ll all get through this together. Blast from the past here, I have a number of older sets that I never uploaded to Soundcloud for one reason or another, been meaning to upload this one for a while.. As you'll hear this is before I had my voice ID's recorded, and even before my "Gotek" logo was created, so WAY long ago.. :P Anyway, I had the honor of being one of two opening DJ’s for the Seattle stop on the PRYDA FRIENDS North American Tour at USC’s Progression Saturdays, at Foundation Nightclub, Saturday, September 28, 2013. Well first of all, Eric Prydz is a huge inspiration to me and to be able to see two of his top protégés from the Pryda Friends label, Jeremy Olander and Fehr Play spin a FOUR HOUR set in such an intimate setting of a smaller club compared to huge festival settings these guys typically fill up, was like a dream come true. Because they wanted to spin a full four hours it meant that DJ Chronus (Chris Winebarger) and I only had 30 minutes each to kick things off, but I wanted to make my set as memorable as possible because I had a ton of friends that showed up to see me spin which made it extra fun for me, but also went off my usual beaten path of Progressive to spin some sexy brand new Deep House beats, and managed to squeeze 8 tracks in there for a total of 38 minutes. I love every track on this set, and I did something that I don’t ordinarily do and that was to spin three tracks by the same artist, the entire new release by Meramek off the Anjunadeep label because they were all such kick-ass tracks and I couldn’t decide which one to use, so spun them all haha, and truly amazing tracks they are. Anyway, this was a magical evening that I will never forget and the Pryda Friends boys lit up the house for four solid hours of some of the best music I have probably ever heard, much of which wasn't released for a year or more afterwards – what a night it was… Hope you enjoy! –Mark

Seattle Trance Alliance (STA) recently had it’s 5-year Anniversary Stream Party, and I was incredibly honored to be on the DJ line-up for this super fun, 2-day event which aired on Fri/Sat, Feb 19th & 20th. Each night had a unique line-up featuring world-class Trance/Progressive headliners, including Solarstone, Myon, Reorder, and Elevven. It also featured several rising star Northwest breakout artists, such as Dimibo, Emerge, and Magnus. Lastly, we had a veritable “dream team” assembly of local Seattle DJ’s, including Des, Johnny Monsoon, Madlon, MarQ, Ophidia, Solarwind, Sunriser, Web, and me (Gotek)! It was SO much fun getting to record our sets live at The Underground, literally my first time setting foot in an actual club in over a year, and even though we only played to a cold, dark, empty club, it just felt unbelievably awesome to be there again. Hoping it’s a foreshadowing of brighter times ahead in the not-too-distant future, but until then, here’s the set I played that Friday evening on Feb 19th. I made sure to load it up with some beautiful and uplifting new Proggy Trance vibes that will be sure to tug at your heart strings (I hope so anyway haha).. On Friday, December 4th, 2020 I recorded this as a demo set for my long-time DJ buddy, Eric Weber, a.k.a. WEB, who was nice enough to invite me to be the guest DJ on his monthly podcast, "United by Music", December edition. This was kind of a special mix for me because I finally got to play a bunch of amazing tracks I had been listening to all summer and had envisioned trying to make a beach-themed progressive soundscape, and was finally able to make it happen and all the tracks seemed to fall together so beautifully together. As I have done several times in the past, I attached an iPad to my mixer and added some ambient oceanic sounds over the music to further enhance the "beachy vibe", and also added an additional floater track at the very end as kind of an "encore", just because I loved this track so much but it was too slow to mix in, turned out kind of neat and dreamy (I think so anyway haha). Lastly, the cool photo I used for the album art was sent to me by a good friend named Andrea who took this gorgeous picture on a walk on Rialto Beach in the Olympic National park in WA, a super-coool photo and I thought it was perfect for the mix (thank you Andrea!!)!! Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope that 2021 turns out to be a much better, happier, safer, and prosperous year for all of us than 2020 was!! Cheers everyone!!

On Saturday, November 28th, 2020, I was honored to be invited to spin a guest set for the 3rd iteration of the "SIGNAL" live DJ broadcast, this time featuring streams from heavyweight headliners including the likes of Christopher Lawrence, Monoverse, Tempo Guisto, 10 total DJ's for this epic streaming event. It was a total blast to share the airwaves with Seattle local favorites, MarQ, Oxymoron, and Madlon, and we had such an awesome crowd of friends and Trance fans tuned in for the online show, even all the way from Europe, so it was a great mood-lifter from the doldrums of daily life in this pandemic, and a way for people to get together and lift everyone's spirits with the lovely healing power of Trance. On 4th of July Saturday, I finally got around to recording an Uplifting Trance set I've been working on and playing around with for the past few months, so it felt great to dust off the decks after what seemed like eons of disuse during the pandemic and all the endless lonely self-isolation and boredom. I don't know about you guys, but being able to escape into my little world of electronic dance music has definitely been my guiding light that has helped me get through these bleak times. I hope it does for you too, and that's exactly why I am posting this, in hopes that this journey through the uplifting and euphoric sounds of Trance helps someone out there in some way, even if it's only just one person, it would still be worth the effort to me. As usual, for this set I scoured my collection and spent many hours listening to tracks on podcasts and Beatport to refine it down to this list. It also features a classic selection produced by a buddy of mine in the UK who also happens to be my sound technician who sound levels all my mixes and adds the voice ID's, Chris Dececio, also known as Redd Square. This track was produced back in 2012 and still sounds amazing by today's standards, one of my fave tracks on the set for sure. Thought I would entitle this one "Arise" as we all reinvent ourselves and arise from this calamity called COVID-19, like the proverbial phoenix's from the flames haha! On Saturday, March 21st, I was honored to take part in a streaming DJ show called “Quarantine”, which was put on by the North American Trance Alliance and The DJ Sessions. It was streamed live from a rooftop with a commanding view of downtown Seattle on a beautiful sunny day, and in spite of the circumstances, was a lot fun. This was the 2nd iteration in a row of the Quarantine show, the first of which took place the weekend before from the Underground club where we usually play live. As the Quarantine name aptly suggests, it’s a way for some local NW promoters and DJ’s to try to reach out and spread some cheer and happy vibes to a population largely locked-down and “sheltering in place”, awaiting the end of this nightmare known as COVID-19. It was such a surreal feeling to be playing that beautiful music with the healing sounds of Trance & Progressive on a rooftop that should have been packed with dancing people and smiling faces, to only a skeleton crew of sound technicians and the people who made the stream possible.. But we hope that the vibes that we tried to create helped people escape reality for a few hours and brought smiles to their faces anyway. I loaded up this set with a bunch of new euphoric and melodic tracks from my favorite artists and labels (SILK, ANJUNA, ARMADA). I hope you enjoy, and stay safe out there my friends. On Friday, Feb 7th, 2020, I was incredibly honored to be one of two openers for the Anunabeats Worldwide 09 Tour, featuring world-renown British Trance Producer/DJ, Damion Houchen, better known as GENIX. On top of being a HUGE fan of GENIX, having played so many of his tracks in my sets over the past several years, and also having seen him perform live at one of my all-time favorite Trance festivals I have ever been to, ABGT # 250 on the Columbia River Gorge, which was basically a religious experience, this was just one of those “pinch yourself to see if you’re dreaming” moments for me when I found out I was opening for Genix, dream-come-true kind of stuff. As you would probably expect, Genix was the nicest guy ever, so humble and approachable, and he seemed genuinely stoked to be playing at The Underground which is obviously a much smaller venue than this world-class mega DJ was used to playing at, and Seattle really brought its A-game to welcome him to our city with a sold-out show packed with the greatest Anjuna fans who were SO much fun to play for, and their pure unbridled energy really made it a memorable experience for everyone, especially Genix himself. Anyway, I was asked to keep it on the mellow side for this one so tried to put together a heart-felt set with some beautiful melodies and a blend of some more housey and progressive vibes, with just a little bit of Trance towards the end to get the blood pumping. It doesn’t happen every year, but on this past Dec 31st I was incredibly excited to be asked to DJ a NYE party, this time at one of my favorite clubs and essentially where I got my start at DJ’ing shows over 10 years ago, the Whiskey Bar in Portland, Oregon. Portland is always a super fun city to be in for New Year’s Eve; all the clubs are packed all night and as expected the Whiskey Bar was no exception for NYE 2020 and we had a great crowd show up for this extended hours party with 6 DJ’s and a full night of amazing Trance and Progressive from around the globe. For this show I had the closing spot from 1-2am, so I had that rare opportunity to spin the music of the Heavens, 138 BPM Trance, so tried to put together a heart-pumping, euphoric set of spine-tingly Uplifting Trance, and decided to add in some huge classics and some of my personal faves from yesteryear that I hoped people would remember, including 5 or 6 tracks that I have had for many years and always wanted to play live, so it was a total thrill hearing these amazing sounds come over the big PA system and I was probably jumping around on stage as much as the people on the dancefloor haha.. :P It truly was a night to remember, and especially at the end after the club closed and the lights came on when I dropped Above & Beyond’s “Small Moments Like These” for some meaningful and peaceful music for people to exit the club to, this really cool group of people that had been dancing up front all night struck a pose on the dancefloor in an Anjuna-esque gesture (the picture is on the top center of the album art), and I would have to say that was one of the more touching moments of my DJ career so far, truly the epitome of the title of the track, “small moments like these” don’t seem like a big thing, but are really the moments you’ll remember for a lifetime.
