DJ Gotek

On Sat, May 25th, I was honored to be able to take part in another very special Tribute night at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, OR, along with my good DJ buddies from PDX, Zoxy, Tim Clang, Rubin Sarafinchan, and Danny Davoodi, this time honoring the beloved electonic sounds of the legendary Trance pIoneer & DJ/Record Producer, Armin van Buuren, along wIth the Dutch Trance label, “Armada Music”, that so many associate with Armin, and lastly the “Armind” label, with the little Armind angel as its trademark, founded by Armin van Buuren himself, who selects the best and most original tunes and artists, often instant classics or glorious future favorites, and Armin chose Armind as the home of all his own productions as well. This was a SUCH a fun night and an eve dedicated to so many of our favorite tracks and releases by Armin and all the other amazing artists that Armin helped discover and propel into notoriety by signing them to his labels and featuring them on ASOT (A State of Trance) over the span of many, many years. I had a SO MUCH fun putting this set together and got to play so many of my recent favorites as well as truly classic Trance choons, some dating back to the early 2000’s all to such an amazing crowd of Trance fans and friends...what a night!!! As an added bonus when I recorded this set I played my entire playlist that I showed up to the club with and “hoped” to play, but was limited to just one hour so wasn’t able to play as many of the tracks I had wanted, but on this recording I lovingly played every one of them so there are a few extras 138 BPM classics at the end, and I had a total blast playing them, some of these tracks actually brought tears to my eyes. On Sat, May 4th, I was honored to be on the opening roster, along with my good friend and DJ buddy, Eric Weber, a.k.a. DJ WEB, for world-renown Norse Trancer, Champion of AvB, ØRJAN NILSEN. This show was actually supposed to happen a few months ago but it was cancelled due to a crazy snow storm we had here in the NW, but thankfully Ørjan was willing to come back and spin his Trance Magic for Seattle, and WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!! So much fun to meet this crazy charismatic character and see the crowd react to his punchy Trance vibes; we had a full house that night and it was so much fun to open with tons of sweaty hugs and high fives, I just love those kinds of nights.. Anyway, I was first-up so tried to start with a nice mellow and heart-felt vibe and built it up in BPM to some more Trancey stuff towards the end. Hope you like the set, and looking forward to seeing some of you on May 25th in Portland for the Armada Tribute show at Whiskey Bar which should be pretty nuts, and then the following Friday, May 31st, at The Underground where I’ll be opening for Super8 & Tab, goIng to be purely mental, insane eve right there, dont miss out, fun couple weeks ahead!! ..And if not, those sets will be posted here soon, I promise. On Saturday, April 13th, I was honored to be on the opening line-up for one of the true pioneers in Trance from the early days, Dutch Trance producer duo, 4 STRINGS, at Ora Nightclub in Seattle. Jan de Vos is the front man for 4 Strings and is such a totally laid back, humble, and nice guy, and the sets he plays are crammed full of the most treasured classics and anthems that bring back so many fond memories from the late 90’s and beyond when I first started listening to Trance, it can be quite an emotional voyage in sound through the decades, and Jan is the master. I am lucky enough to have opened for 4 Strings twice now, the first time was down in Portland a few years ago, and both experiences were similar in the fact that the most loyal and awesome Trance fans come out to see him play and were such a great audience to play for. For this set (I was first on) I had an hour so I wanted to start off with a more ethereal and dreamy vibe and work into some more uplifting and classic Trance stuff towards the end for the hand-off to Randall Glenn, the other opener along with me, but the club had some sound issues and the music started about 12 minutes late so my set was cut short by about 3 tracks unfortunately. I was pretty bummed by that but still had a great time playing and got a few classics in there in spite of it all. I hope you enjoy the set. -Mark

On Saturday, April 6th, I was honored to be invited to play a 1-hour guest set for "ZAPPED" at The Underground, the *unofficial* LASERFACE after-party, with Johnny Monsoon, FFM, and several other well-known local Seattle Trance/Progressive DJ’s. This is the 2nd after-party I’ve played at Underground, the first of which was after a BLISS Trance festival about 3 years ago, and it was so incredibly fun, got to throw down some 138 on a super late night/early morning set and the club was absolutely packed… So as you might imagine I was super excited to be able to do it again and this time it was even more insane, the club was sold out for the after-party and as soon as Laserface got out at WaMu Theater it was packed like sardines, and that was right when I was playing, so it was totally off the hook!!! There were rumors abound of who might show up after Laserface and sure enough everyone was absolutely thrilled when the heart of the Laserface show, namely Trance celebs Craig Connelly, Gareth Emery, and Emma Hewitt walked in and played cameo walk-on sets. Needless to say it was a totally insane eve, I didn’t quite manage to work up to 138 but 135 isn’t too bad in my book.. :P Hope you enjoy the set!! –Mark a.k.a. Gotek

On Friday, January 25th, 2019, I was honored to be on the opening roster, along with MarQ and Backmans, for a legend in the Uplifting and Psy Trance industry, all the way from Dublin, Ireland, BRYAN KEARNEY, at The Underground, Seattle. The KEARNAGE show set a new record for the short amount of time it took to sell out, and was such an incredible night filled with the most positive energy and the smiling faces and hands in the air of so many Seattle Trance fans, truly a night I will never forget. It was a super tough day for me personally, because my best friend from childhood had passed away earlier that day from terminal illness, but I was glad that I was able to rally and make it to the show and get up on the stage and play this beautiful and healing music I love so much, and there were so many hugs and wonderful people to help me make it through the night. I played one of my fave vocal trance tracks in recent times, Elypsis feat. Fenna Day, “Who You Are”, because it reminded me of my friend Kent; Godspeed to you my friend. First mix of 2019!! This set stemmed from a practice session on the New Years Day holiday this week which turned into a recording that was a keeper, as I was experimenting with a bunch of 138 BPM Trance tracks that I have been diligently collecting over the holiday months, and it was just one of those days where everything fell together pretty close to perfectly on the first try, so decided to keep the recording, and also seemed to be appropriate that I kick off 2019 with a Hi-NRG and Uplifting Trance set!! The title of this mix was inspired by a recent trip to Kona on the main island of Hawaii over the Christmas break, and a truly exhilarating helicopter ride I took over the pristine beaches with aqua blue water and the vast barren volcanic landscapes, like an exotic, beautiful and untouched alien world, so I am calling this one “Beauty from Above” and it is crammed full of brand new Uplifting Trance as well as kicked it off with a classic from yesteryear, the incredible Broning remix of “Phobia” by Suncatcher, Mihai M, & Starshifters, one of my very FAVE tracks ever, and also an insane remix of an ultimate classic vocal Trance CHOON, “Waiting Here For You” by The Thrillseekers, featuring the angelic voice of ARUNA. Lastly, stay tuned for some new sets coming soon as I will be opening for Trance legends BRYAN KEARNEY in a few weeks, and ORJAN NILSEN in early Feb, so lots of great things in the hopper coming at us, plus lots of other demo ideas floating around in my brain, going to be a good 2019!! Had some new, super Hi-NRG 138-140 BPM Trance burning a hole in my pocket so decided to bust out a special demo mix for the Holiday Season; recorded this last week the day before Thanksgiving so I could have some good driving music for my trip down to Portland from Seattle to visit my family for the Holiday, only meant as a practice “rough draft” session but I liked how it turned out so kept the original take.. This mix is mostly new releases but it also includes two incredible recent remixes of classics that I loved, the Lightform remix of Lost Tribe's “Gamemaster” which brings back SO great many memories from the late 90’s, and the crescendo of the mix, Perry O'Neil’s classic “Wave Force”, South Of The Stars Extended Remix, which I heard Ferry Tayle play on a live set a short while back and it totally blew my mind. Also included the new Ben Nicky Remix of Alex M.O.R.P.H.’s “Sunset Boulevard”, one of my favorite vocal trance tracks in recent years, and lots of other incredible new tracks from many of my fave usual suspect powerhouses for euphoric 138 BPM Trance; Ronski Speed, Nitrous Oxide, Will Atkinson, Ultimate, etc, even a hot new collab between PvD and Alex M.O.R.P.H... On Saturday, Nov 10th, 2018, I was honored to be a guest DJ for a very special ANJUNABEATS TRIBUTE NIGHT at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, OR, where all the tracks played by the DJ’s were either on the Anjunabeats or Anjunadeep labels, or at the very least had something recognizably to do with Above & Beyond, ABGT, etc. What made this night so truly special (for me), aside from being able to play an entire set of ANJUNA magic, and the fact that the club was totally PACKED from barely 20 minutes from doors opening with the most wonderful crowd of Anjuna fans who were SO fun to play for, was that we had some of the biggest names in the NW Trance and Progressive DJ scene on the roster for the night, JOHNNY MONSOON, EVAN ALEXANDER, and DJ ZOXY, so it was pretty over the top for the amount of fun we all had spinning together, tons of laughs & Tom Foolery, all the smiling faces in the crowd, and hands in the air, truly a night that I will never forget. For this set I really tried to stick to the classics and played many of my favorite Anjuna tracks from yesteryear that bring back so many great memories, but also threaded a few newer releases in there as well, including the opening track of the mix, which I first heard played by James Grant and Jody Wisternoff on 2nd “Anjunadeep” day of ABGT # 250 in the Columbia Gorge, their remix of Pola & Bryson - Cinematic Fireball, such a beautiful track that sends shivers down my spine each time I hear it, but I love every selection in this mix, and hope you do too.. On Saturday, Nov 3rd, I was honored to be an opener, along with my buddy Johnny Monsoon, for one of Podium's top 100 DJs of 2017 and 2018 (#70) and Markus Schulz's breakout DJ of 2018, Stuart Turner of ARKHAM KNIGHTS, at Ora, Seattle!!! This was this Trance Star's Seattle debut appearance and it was so much fun to be the opener for this show, Stuart was a super nice guy and a bunch of his fans showed up to hear his dark Tech Trance style and he showed up to deliver with a blazing performance! For this set I paired up with one of my favorite Seattle DJ’s, a well known NW Trance DJ icon from the early days, Johnny Monsoon, and our set was recorded straight from the mixer at the club. John and I didn’t do any pre-show planning or rehearsing for this other than agreeing on a BPM range and a feel for the tracks we wanted to play to set the mood, so this recording is what organically evolved out of that, 100% figuring it out as we went, and the crowd was totally awesome whole time we played. Always have a fun time spinning with Johnny Monsoon, and looking forward to the next time. This set turned out to be a 1-hour and 48 minute journey through sound that progresses nicely from a moody progressive start into a driving Trance finish with a few interludes with some more euphoric and uplifting Trance thrown in there. On Friday, October 26th, I was honored to be on the opening roster at The Underground, Seattle, for one of my all-time favorite Trance producers visiting us all the way from Germany, ALEX M.O.R.P.H.!!! On top of that, it has been such an amazing honor and fun experience to have opened for Alex three separate times over the past several years, at different clubs in Seattle each time, and it’s always so great to see this amazingly funny and witty guy who just knows how to control the crowd so well and weave these magical journeys in sound that are truly soul-healing, and take it into the stratosphere. The crowd that night was so amazing, and this show went until after 4am as the after-hours party took off with people coming from the Halloween Freaknight rave down the street. It was also another fun opportunity and adventure to share the stage with my good buddy from Portland, Zoxy, and also Shane Neel from Seattle, who both played amazing sets.
