    Episode 6 – 481: Taking Action

    Let’s talk about taking action

Taking Action is a necessary step to moving toward our

desired future state.  We can’t hope or wish things into reality – we must take action.

To take action toward our vision, break things into actionable

items.  By taking the time to create manageable steps, we help ourselves to stay on target to achieve our goals. When we maintain engagement, we have a greater ability to learn and grow along the way.

Taking action necessarily means that we must accept the

failures that area part of  progress. We can learn to glean all that we can from our failures in order to make better decisions in the future. With persistence and focus, we can learn to be resilient
in times of action and change. Persistence is an important part of navigating change, challenges, and new learning.

When taking action on your milestones, be sure to celebrate

your successes and your learning. You can celebrate your achievement of milestones by yourself or with others, however, when we celebrate with others there is a greater level of accountability that can form to benefit us.

So, after you get going on your visioning, start taking action

to move your vision from dream to reality.

    Let’s talk about taking action.

  • Episode 6-480: Visioning

    Episode 6 – 480: Visioning

Let’s talk about envisioning the future

Last week we talked about the concept of change, today I want to talk about taking action for change by means of visioning.

Visioning is the process of creating a clear, concise, mental picture of our desired future. This can be done on an individual level or as a part of a group. It takes intention and focus to provide a clear and detailed picture for your desired future. You’ll need to tap into your inner creativity to envision the details of your future.

Visioning helps us to clarify our purpose, and set a path and goals for our future success.

Another benefit of visioning is that it helps us to develop a positive mindset that can become a a guide for our future actions as we move toward our established goals.

Some techniques, such as journaling, meditating and imaging the future, can be helpful in the visioning process. Picture yourself achieving your goals, as you continue to do this, more clarity will become present and your work toward your goal.

So, I encourage you to take some time to envision your desired future. Give it time to develop the details. By developing a vision, your will be one step closer to taking action that is congruent with your desired future.

Let’s talk about envisioning the future.

    Episode 6 – 479: Change & Clarity

Let’s talk about change, making way for clarity.

Change is a constant that can be feared to our detriment, or

embraced for our good. Within change, there is a great potential for growth.  So change is not something to be resisted but something to harness and use as a catalyst for our growth.

Change and chaos can help us identify clarity. In fact change and

    clarity are closely aligned.

Clarity can act as a guiding force that beings better understanding and vision for a path forward.  When things are clear we can understand what is needed to keep moving forward.

Clarity enables us to understand the reasons behind change, identify opportunities within the challenges, and make informed decisions. .

  • Episode 6 – 477: Managing Change

    Episode 6 – 477: Managing Change

Let’s talk about change being manageable

Though change can be uncomfortable, it is manageable. To

manage things it is important to identify what we are working on.  When managing change, acknowledge how the change is impacting you emotionally and why.
Then understand the things that you would like resolved in order to break down the resolution into more manageable milestones. While we are ultimately responsible for our own change, having a support system that could be friends, family, mentor, therapist, coach, clergyman, doctor or other, can help you to manage the progression of the changes you are trying to make. Finally,
be patient with yourself, as change is really about the process of getting to the desired state.  Change is always happening
    in some form.

Keep in mind that all of us are going through some type of

change, and the more we acknowledge and embrace the change, the more we can use change to our advantage.

  • Episode 6 – 476: Change is Uncomfortable

    Episode 6 – 476: Change is Uncomfortable

Let’s talk about change being uncomfortable

Change can be uncomfortable because it brings a bit of uncertainty.  It’s natural to have fear of the unknown when

we are letting go of what is familiar to face the discomfort of learning new things, of failing in the process of becoming proficient or figuring things out.
However, it’s important to keep a few things in mind.  One is that the discomfort of change is temporary and it can also be a helpful sign that you are in a position to learn or gain proficiency. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is an acronym for F.E.A.R., which his False Expectations Appearing Real.  How we negatively imagine the unfamiliar is never quite the same as the reality that comes to pass.

So, I encourage you to keep in mind that the discomfort of

change is not something to be avoided, but something to recognize as sign that you are stretching and growing.

  • Episode 6 – 475: Change is an Imperative

Episode 6 – 475: Change is an Imperative

Let’s talk about the necessity of change

    Change is an imperative.

Change is the force behind personal and collective growth. Our reality is that most things require some change, even if the basis seems to remain unchanged. Knowledge and experience are change, that when applied allow us to grow and adapt not just for what is, but for what will become.

Though resisting change allows us to cling to what is comfortable and familiar, that resistance can hurt us when it come to

professional growth.  When we are stagnant in our thoughts and perspectives it hinders progress.

Embracing change can help to open the doors to new opportunities, worthwhile challenges that help us to learn and adapt, and propel us forward on a continuous journey of self-discovery and realization of our skills and abilities that are honed over time and with experience.

I encourage you to avoid viewing change as an obstacle but think

about it as an opportunity and catalyst for new growth.

  • 6-474: 80/20 Principle For Communication

Episode 6–474: Applying the 80/20 Principle to Communications

    Let’s talk about 80/20

the 80/20 Principle, also known as the Pareto Principle, says that 80% of outcomes and activity are driven by 20 % of efforts or other happenings.

The 80/20 Principle can be applied to our communication in the areas of content creation and sharing, and also to our general interpersonal interactions.

First we can recognize that 80% of what we communicate is driven by 20% of other elements of learning and knowledge share. So, it is important to have clarity about what is driving the content of our communication and be very intentional regarding what we are intending to communicate.

Next, we can focus in on the how and how much we communicate. We may be in a position to answer questions or to be a part of a panel discussion. In such cases, we may be delivering 80% of the verbal communication. Or we may be the person who is receiving more content in order to apply it or mine the most important points, in which case we may be listening 80% of the time. The point is that we should be mindful that 20% of our communication is what will most influence what drives action to accomplish goals. Additionally, when we are mindful of the 80/20 rule as it applies to interpersonal communication it will help to ensure that we understand others' perspectives and contribute meaningfully to the discussion.

Keep the 80/20 Principle in mind when communicating.

    Episode 6–473: Simply

    Let’s talk about Simplicity

Sometimes we can complicate things that don’t need to be

complicated. When we do complicate things it is not a good use of our energy and effort.  Sometimes it’s best to simplify, so that things can be appreciated and more accessible. When we simplify, we break things down to a state of being that can bring the greatest clarity.  When things are clear it sets the foundation for achieving a greater amount of progress.

There was an acronym of KISS for simplicity, that stood for Keep It Simple, Stupid. It was a reminder to keep things understandable and relatable for the greatest understanding and impact of the

    message.

Since today is Thanksgiving in the United States, I wanted

to provide a simple message of gratitude and thanks.
Thank you for your encouragement of these daily messages and for being a part of the listening audience and this learning
    journey.

Today I also want to encourage you to look for the things in

life that you can have gratitude for and to simply be thankful. Be thankful for all the things that provide you learning opportunities, joys, and even those things that help you to realize the depths and values of your relationships.

When we keep things as simply manageable as possible, we make room for focus and energy on other things in our lives.

    Episode 6–472: Social Editing Skills

Let’s talk about Knowing Your Audience & Taking Cues

In life, it’s important to pay attention.   Social editing

skills, being able to read your audience so that you can interact in a way that your communication or efforts are received as you had intended, is important.

When we communicate it is important that we allow ourselves

the opportunity to check in to see if information is being received  and understood. When we give ourselves this time
to check in, it allows us to make changes. We must also learn that there are times to speak and there are times to listen.  We also need to ascertain the level of detail that is best share or not shared in any given situation. Understanding these aspects of communication can help us with our ability to be better social editors to produce the quality communication that we want people to receive.

So, let me encourage you to always be aware of the what the

audience for your communication needs in order to best utilize what you have to share and give yourself the opportunity to check in on how you messages are being received. The better we communicate with others, the greater positive impact we can have with others.
