The friends you make in medical school are friends for life. Very few people know what that experience entails. For doctors Jill Wener and Marjorie Stiegler their friendship has solidified into a business partnership as well.
Both of them were bitten early on with the entrepreneurial bug and wanted to create more out of the careers that they were focused on. They were still fulfilled but they knew there was more to be done. They put together TransforMD after experiencing different life events that made them pause and re-evaluate their life path.
TransforMD is a community built for women physicians who love their practice but know that the traditional path is not for them. They host retreats and conferences showcasing non-traditional paths that women in medicine can take with their careers. Both Jill and Marjorie have hearts for service and want to impact so many others. This is their way of doing that.
It all comes back to their "why." They want to spread the message that your unique gifts are what elevate your work and your message. You just have to find them. But you don't have to do it alone. We are all in the same boat, we just have different roles to play in elevating women physicians across the globe.
Listen as we talk about life, love, and our passion for helping others. What dreams have you placed on the back burner? Now's the time to bring them forward.

Just because others think your way is wrong, doesn't mean that's true. Dr. Nikhila Schroeder and her husband opened their clinic, Allergenuity Health, with no lack of skepticism coming at them from all sides. They were determined, however, and now they have a loyal customer base and a business that feels right.
Nikhila has been working in the medical field for over a decade and knows that it can be better. She and her husband started Allergenuity Health to change how we approach immunology and workplace practices, and it's working.
Their approach has helped hundreds of patients of all ages experience fewer and fewer symptoms related to allergies. It has not been an easy road, but it has been extremely rewarding.
Listen as she shares some of her beliefs on patient care and the role of medicine in our everyday lives. Additionally, she gives us a deep dive into why she's looking for alternatives to immunology beyond injections and daily pills.
As a chronic allergy sufferer I was extremely excited to get to speak with Nikihla and I definitely learned some things. Listen in and see if you can apply her experience to your life and practice.

[33:40] She speaks about the push back she got from her peers for doing something different from the mainstream.

A true system of medicine is based on a central understanding of creation and where the human being fits into the rest of creation. Our current system of medicine is mainly based on the economic system. This realization is why Dr. Melinda Toney created her Chrysalis Services program to treat the whole human.
Our lives are made up of a series of chrysalis moments where we transform in one way or another into a new version of ourselves. Understanding that our growth and development over time has a huge impact on our health is one of the key components of Dr. Toney's programs.
Listen as we discuss how breath work impacts health and how you can begin to shift your health focus into a more holistic view. So much of our medical system setup is designed to fail us, our patients, and society overall. Dr. Toney is working to fix that.
Grab your freebies from Dr. Toney at her website and then keep listening for your kick of encouragement. Trust me. You don't want to miss the tips and advice we have in store for you this week.

It's time that you get to experience me doing my thing! I love coming onto the podcast and interviewing amazing women, but I wanted to share with you what it's like to work with me. In case you've considered it but coaching seems scary.
Because good coaching is sometimes scary. You have to dig deep and unearth those things that have been whispers in your mind. The whispers could be good or bad but either way you have to confront the things that have been holding you back or holding you down.
Not necessarily a process that is filled with sunshine and rainbows, but it's necessary. So, I've decided to share with you one of my group coaching sessions to give you a feel of what it's like to be coached! I've taken out everyone's names and locations because I fully believe in confidentiality, but you can still see what it means to dig into your blocks.
I hope you enjoy and if you realize that this is what you've been missing, click here and learn more about how we can work together!

The Patreon episodes are poppin! I love supporting you in your role as a female physician… but I also love to support you as women. Which is why I've created the Doctor Me First Patreon Group, to continue the conversation with a whole new perspective.
You can help support this podcast while also getting advice from male physicians, parenting coaches, life coaches, and so many more! I wanted the Patreon group to cover all the things that the podcast doesn't innately cover right now.
I also wanted to give you a taste of what that means. Who better to give you advice than a former lawyer turned stay-at-home mom who regrets none of the minutes of her life? Sarah Argenal has recently written and published a book detailing her struggles and why she thinks our current system is broken.
Stop the 3hr a day commute. Stop telling yourself that you spent the money so you have to spend the time. You wanted to be a professional and no matter your choices… you're STILL a professional.
If you enjoy this episode, take a moment and join the Patreon group. You'll be able listen to Sarah share all of her wisdom there! I hope to see you soon!
"Let's look at who we are right now. What's important to us right now? What are the constraints we have on our lives right now? And start to filter out some of that advice or information that doesn't work and start targeting in on the things that really do help us." – Sarah Argenal
In this episode:
[02:23] Welcome to the show, Sarah!
[02:45] Sarah shares a little about herself and company.
[05:18] Sarah discusses her book and what it is about.

Your ability to feel compassion for yourself is imperative. Why? Because no one else is meant to take care of you but… YOU! If you don't have compassion for yourself, who else will? Dr. Nerissa Bauer is here to chat about burnout and how to circumvent this horrible fate.
You have to love yourself enough to let other people help you. Period. The only way to grow and thrive in any business is to understand what you can and can't do and then to delegate those can'ts.
We are in this age of Covid so we really have to pick and choose what we minted to be passionate about and first and foremost we need to be passionate about self-compassion. Give yourself the grace to succeed or fail during this time. So many of us are working at home with children while trying to support patients. You need to give yourself grace.
Depending on your child's age, they may have every right to help you make decisions within the family. Stop taking everything on your shoulders. Let your children help make decisions and establish themselves as change-makers (with supervision.)
We are all working on this new dynamic. Don't succumb to the negative thoughts that tell you, you aren't enough. You are… you just need to give yourself permission to practice self-compassion.
"Show yourself grace because life is a work in progress." Dr. Nerissa Bauer
In this episode:
[01:18] Welcome to the show, Dr. Bauer!

[11:03] Listen as Errin discusses being in an environment of people who practice self compassion.
[12:40] Dr. Bauer believes that with COVID materialistic things aren't nearly as important as health and connection with people.
[15:37] Errin speaks about how difficult it is to keep the connection with people when you aren't able to be with them.
[17:38] Dr. Bauer's biggest fear when she left academia was getting burned out again.
[20:20] Errin believes that if people ask themselves what they are feeling, why and what can I do about it, burnout would probably not be as prevalent.
[21:18] Dr. Bauer discusses her blog, her family friendly handouts and jump start kits.
[25:23] Dr. Bauer believes you should get your child's input in decisions and changes.

We're doctors. We should be the first to realize and understand that we're dealing with mental health issues and how to treat them right? Wrong. Many times we are struggling with things but because there is no safe space to talk about them, our issues become worse rather than better.
Dr. Lynette Charity has been there and she's not going back. She grew up in the segregated south, watched a car hit and killed her sister, dealt with bullying and posturing, and through it all made her dream of becoming a doctor come true. Why then did she find herself at 60 years old feeling like she'd missed something?
She struggled with depression and anxiety given her history and one day felt like it was all too much. The voices in her head were telling her that she wasn't enough. Not a good enough doctor, parent, wife, daughter, etc., and that she should just end her own pain.
Thankfully her husband found her before she could do anything that would have taken her from this world, but even after that episode, she was scared to continue treatment. There is a stigma around mental health, not just in the medical field, but in general.
Once you've been labeled as mentally unfit, you never go back to being "normal." Listen as Dr. Charity and I discuss her story and why comedy has become the light in her world. She is an amazing storyteller and has a powerful message to share.
If you've felt the niggling of depression or burn out, seek help. Don't stay in a place of darkness out of fear!
In this episode:
[01:26] Welcome back to the show, Dr. Charity!
[02:06] Dr. Charity shares her background in healthcare and why she got fired.
[06:43] Listen, as Dr. Charity speaks about wanting to be a stand-up comedian and how her love of humor got her where she is today.
[08:02] Dr. Charity discusses getting a coach, and the coach suggested that she become a speaker and add humor.
[12:10] Dr. Charity speaks on physician burnout, depression, and suicide.
[14:29] A doctor feels like they need to be perfect, and they can't talk about being depressed or burned out.
[16:30] Dr. Charity discusses a ted talk she did called Heal the Healers; it was about her journey of getting psychiatric help.
[19:05] Errin shares that this is not an unusual story. You are not alone.
[20:12] Listen, as Dr. Charity speaks about when she realized she needed to get help.
[25:02] Dr. Charity shares that she had voices telling her she wasn't a good doctor or mother and that she should die, and she attempted suicide.
[30:34] Listen as Dr. Charity gives advice and says you can't help anyone until you help yourself first.
[32:11] Dr. Charity shares that she is reinventing herself and will start coaching people who want to become speakers.
[33:44] Thank you so much for being on the show!
[34:31] Errin gives the listeners a kick of encouragement.

An epidemic of extreme proportions has hit the world, and it is not Covid-19. The rate of childhood suicide is skyrocketing and the reason behind it is undiagnosed trauma per Dr. Lulu. Depression is not the only reason someone may fall into thoughts of suicide, but trauma is the one common link.
Suicide claims the life of one person every 20 seconds. Why? Is it because of the increase of childhood trauma through events like divorce, death, bullying both in person and electronically? The instances of potential trauma have increased as the world becomes a smaller and smaller place.
This increase in the number of children having thoughts of suicide in the face of trauma means that trauma-informed care is essential in pediatrics. Rather than asking a child or their parents about what is wrong, ask what has happened to them.
A child of divorce is more likely to commit suicide. A child who has been abused is more likely to commit suicide. A child who feels unwanted, neglected, or abandoned is more likely to commit suicide. We need to start asking the right questions at the right time and realize that the words you hear aren't always the emotions being felt.
Dr. Lulu shares her own incredible story and what happened that made her want to dig deeper into this epidemic. She is now an in-demand speaker sharing this message all over the world as well as sharing her knowledge in her books. Listen as Dr. Lulu and I discuss the increase in childhood suicide and what we as physicians can and should be doing to help.
In this episode:
[01:52] Welcome back to the show, Dr. Lulu!
[02:04] Dr. Lulu shares her background when she first met Errin and how she pivoted her career.
[05:06] Dr. Lulu discusses suicide in children and that the roots of suicide being trama.
[06:52] Dr. Lulu asks if mental illness is the reason for suicide why is the use of antidepressants and anti-anxiety medicine is going up but so are suicides?
[08:15] Covid-19 doesn't kill someone every 20 seconds, but suicide does.
[10:03] People don't want to think kids can be traumatized enough to commit suicide.
[11:52] Have you ever asked yourself if the world would be better off with you dead?
[12:54] Suicide is a series of traumatic events. You can't give a person a pill for that.
[14:49] Listen, as Dr. Lulu describes what a trauma-informed provider means to her.
[19:41] Errin tells her residents, I don't care where they come from or where they are going, in this moment, we need them to feel safe.
[20:40] The question isn't what's wrong with you; it's what has happened to you.
[23:13] Dr. Lulu shares her books available now on Amazon.
[29:26] Errin speaks about having conversations with her children about racism while watching Dr. Lulu's videos she did on her book.
