The Colorado Avalanche did call to inquire about the possibility of acquiring Jack Eichel in a trade, but when Buffalo said they would not retain any salary those talks ended. Vegas swooped in and landed the superstar and now the Avalanche have to be asking themselves did they miss an opportunity?

Will Eichel going to Vegas, a team many think will be the Avs top contender to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, force the Avs to make a similar move at some point during the season?

The Avs can take a wait and see approach on a few accounts. Because Eichel won't be back for a few months, they can see where both teams stand later in the season and gauge if it is worth making such a move, and they can gauge who Eichel is out on the ice following major surgery. Definitely something to watch as the season goes on.
