It has been a while since the last episode....but that does not mean we have not been doing anything!
No, this is not a catch-up episode that goes over everything we, at the Institute of Canine Psychotherapy, have been doing, but...
it certainly makes a great segway into this episode.
The new trend in "dog training" - Do Nothing! Where did this come from and what does it look like in practice?
And if humans can (or cannot) "do nothing", is this beneficial for our dogs? Would our dogs do the same?
Can dogs "do nothing"? Well, dogs actually are doing something when they are doing nothing... at least when we recognize and encourage (not simply "allow") processing and decision-making.
Let's do something about doing nothing....

First off! I apologize for the dead air space, I am using a different recording platform that apparently does not like my taste in music :-) And, as you cat lovers can relate to, I had to attend to my cat's needs. :-)
This episode explores the term "Treat Motivated" referencing common scientific studies to determine what this really means and if the focus on treat motivation means the study is missing some very important information about our dogs!
Secondly, I use the example of a client of a student in the CCBT Diploma Program at the Institute of Canine Psychotherapy to discuss the challenges in using Conditioning Methods with dogs that are not "treat motivated"
And, finally, is "treat motivated" an advantage when adopting a dog?
