The song this week is entitled "Merseybeat Memories" and reminds us of the contribution Liverpool made to the world of music back in the day....the song was the B side of a vinyl 45 which I was commissioned to write for the Merseyside tourism dept...the A side being Beatle City.....it sold very well in the tourist centres and to my knowledge was the first record to be released on a council label (my idea) ....We have been overdosed with the Donald Trump saga.....I must say it is very entertaining but makes you wonder about the result of the whole thing....Hillary or Donald?....what a choice.....I have never seen such an ugly exchange between two so called world leaders...it was like watching a movie...except you couldn't make that up.....the U.S.A. has definitely lost its way. ....I do enjoy Strictly Come Dancing....purely for the spectacle of talented fit young men and beautifully sculpted ladies gliding around the dance floor to the sound of a great band....all going well until the press get hold of it....alleging it's "rigged" and it's "racist" because the first two out of the competition were black.....it's beyond me why someone always has to put a downer on things .... probably stems from ITV who are struggling for viewers for the X Factor garbage......and Will Young has thrown his dummy out of the pram and walked out....so he won't be getting his full fee....now he only gets 5 grand......joke or what? ...On the racist theme....which always only seems to go one way....I read an article about my mate Jimmy Krankie (aka Janette Tough)...who was cast as a Chinese woman in the Ab Fab film...with Jenny Saunders and Joanna Lumley.....this American journalist was "disgusted" at the portrayal of a Chinese person with yellow skin and speaking in a weird voice....oh dear....some people should get over themselves...IT'S COMEDY!!!....get a life.......I know Janette well and the last thing she is is racist....fandabidozi. ....forget the soldiers risking their lives for the country...and the paramedics who save lives etc etc....they obviously don't deserve to be awarded or even knighted...unlike SIR Rod Stewart.....what is the world coming to....Rod the Mod....who I think gargles with sand...for his contribution to music.....isn't he just doing a JOB?...a knight of the realm?....Sir Van Morrisson...Sir Mick Jagger...etc...maybe I'm missing something but what have they done other than make money for themselves?....hey ho...that's what makes Britain grate. ...finally, we pay tribute to the wonderful character acting of Jean Alexander who played Hilda Ogden in the series Coronation Street.

The song I have sent you this week is from a DVD I made about a place you will know well...Hilbre Island which lies off the north western tip of the Wirral Peninsula.....it is about 2 miles out and can be visited at low tide....it is magnificent and there is a colony of seals close by....I virtually wrote all the lyrics to this song while spending a few hours out there....you can sit and one way you have the Welsh coast and the other way you have the northern and western coasts of Wirral....wonderful....nowhere else I'D rather be. Saw a nice piece of news regarding the Great North Run....there's a young band called Little Comet and their drummer has major heart problems and requires a lot of medical help...the rest of the band did the run while playing their guitars to raise money for awareness to his problem....now THAT'S mates for you.....however this news obviously wasn't as important as the BBC losing the Great British Bake-off to channel 4.....I can't think of ANYTHING I could care less about....and this was NATIONAL news!!....it's pathetic...I've never watched the programme and incidentally Paul Hollywood went to my school (which explains a lot). I have to laugh at the "advert" the BBC have put out....telling people they mustn't forget that when their kids go to university and stream programmes on to their computers they need to pay for a TV licence....so listen up all you students -when you see someone approaching you through the smoke from your spliffs and you are just about to down your 6th pint...make sure you have your licence money ready....good luck with that one BBC.....mind you the beeb need the money otherwise they wouldn't be able to pay the likes of G ary Linacre and Graham Norton a million a year....so come on...PAY UP!!! .I've just discovered the ideal job....become a member of the House of Lords.....you walk in in the morning...have a 10 minute sleep...then walk out again....picking up your £300 on the way out....5 day week - £1500......78 grand a year...good value eh?...almost as good value as the HS2 rail link which is now costing 90 BILLION....and rising.....that would give EVERY person on this planet15 quid...EVERY person...and for a train line nobody wants....forget those poor souls who are starving....we need to save half an hour on our journeys from London to Birmingham...and the bloke in charge of this disgrace ...he is on 750 grand a year has been offered a better job with Rolls Royce which he has accepted..so he's O.K.......I'm SO pleased. They are thinking of making sexist remarks a HATE crime....so no more whistling at your ladies in the street...or light hearted banter....you might upset those poor females with their skirts a few inches below their backsides and their blouses about as low as they will go....I think a lot of the female population need to get over themselves....seems to me they make a huge effort to look attractive then moan when fellas enjoy looking at them......there is no excuse for rape or for embarrassing girls but most of them are quite happy to have a laugh with blokes.....on the "Lorraine" programme in the morning the women are all going on about Poldark taking his shirt ofand fanning themselves with a competition to find the most attractive blokes in underpants....maybe we should all insist on THEM being arrested for outright sexism?....oh no sorry....it only applies one way.

The song this week is one I wrote back in the day for an organisation called The Friends Of The Ferries....who,as the name suggests,are supporters of our famous ferry service....each year they have a Mersey Cruise which takes you up and down the Mersey and through the dock complex....the song is called Dockland Beauty and describes the sights as you travel through the docks...I also made a DVD of the cruise and this song is featured on it....they still sell the DVD at their various outlets. Prince Harry has suggested awarding all soldiers who put their lives at risk for their country....I couldn't agree more...how about handing out C.B.E.s and knighthoods to someone who actually DOES something for the country instead of SIR Richard Branson...SIR Jimmy Savile...SIR Rolph Harris....and all the government fat cats in their mansions....nice one Harry !!! There has been a lot of publicity regarding drownings on some of our popular beaches...the lack of beach patrols has taken some of the blame but what is needed is more education regarding tides.....when you live in a coastal area you tend to respect the water but a lot of people from inland areas travel to beaches during nice weather and have little idea of the dangers.....warning posters describing the dangers should be on every beach...and perhaps a bit of education on TV? I watched with some disbelief the "training" for when we eventually land on Mars...this was in Hawaii (I think) where future spacemen live in a big tent in their space suits....is it me or is someone havin' a laugh?....and how much is this waste of time costing?....I once had the pleasure of having a pint with Patrick Moore who convinced me to get a telescope and look at the stars ... which I did....but they looked the same...only bigger....my astrological career lasted about 15 minutes. I have been watching repeats of Hi-Di-Hi....and it is still so funny....it really stands the test of time...then again all GOOD comedies do...then I was unfortunate enough to watch the re-make of Are You Being Served...it was as bad as it gets....really bad...in fact pretty unbearable.....the original was good but with the new versions of the characters and the constant canned laughter it was abysmal...and guess what this one was written by the same bloke who writes the script for Benidorm...which explains everything....someone should have a word with Mr.Litton and tell him he aint funny....but he'll probably end up with a knighthood.

.The song I have sent you this week is one of my many local songs about the wonderful area in which I live…which you know well…so you will be able to visualise what I am singing about…it is simply called “If” and points out what you are missing if you aint been there. It’s a track from one of my DVDs so there are pictures to go with it….I think you will enjoy the lyrics. 2.The news this week is about major tax dodgers and our wonderful P.M. has been dragged into it…and totally denies any wrongdoing. What makes me laugh is all this is treated as something NEW….wow!!...all these billionaires don’t give a monkeys about us…now there’s a surprise!!….the problems of the world could be solved by half a dozen of these greedy selfish you-know-whats…wheels within wheels…simple as that…they all look after each other and throw the odd crumb to us lot. 3.On the sporting scene it was good to hear that Nick Blackwell is recovering from his fight with Chris Eubank Junior.I saw the fight which should have been stopped a lot earlier…I feel the problem was they were holding out that Blackwell was “indestructible” which is never the case…I feel sorry for Eubank who was obviously upset… And those big hard tough rugby players are in the news…one of them called another “Gypsy Boy”…OOOOH MATRON……screams of “RACIST”…so now the nanny state has expanded into rugby…they’ll be providing the front row of the scrum with handbags next…it’s pathetic. 4.On the showbiz front I thought we were going to have a break from Ant and Dec now their Saturday show has finished…no chance…they are straight back on Britains Got Talent (which definitely does not apply to them)….perhaps instead of “Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway”….they could have a new programme “Takeaway Ant & Dec”. And The Rolling Stones have got an exhibition of their life on the road…the amazing thing is they have never changed…perhaps it’s because they always looked like they were in their seventies…you gotta love ‘em though….it’s only rock and roll but we love it. 5.Recently received a leaflet through my door extolling the virtues of remaining in the EU…..then I watch the news…and apparently EVERYONE has had one….to the cost of 7.5 million pounds. Is it me or are they having a laugh…if it was April 1st I would understand…..so 7.5 million pounds on paper that most people will throw in the bin….come back Henry the 8th and throw the lot of them in the Tower!!! On a bright note to finish… The Cheshire Cats are about to present a nice cheque to the Claire House Hospice on Wirral….who NEED the money to care for sick kids…money raised by our weekly jam sessions where local musicians give their time FREE….nice to work amongst decent folk….check out our website www.thecheshirecats.co.uk
