For this week’s episode, it is considerably shorter than usual due to technical difficulties but nonetheless Eden, Nic and Sope bring the same vim, hilarity and knowledge that you’ve come to expect. Kicking off the news this week is Taylor Swift’s decision to re-record her entire back catalogue as a way of combatting Scooter Braun profiting off her masters. Sope in particular ponders whether this will actually do anything in the grand scheme of things. Next up, the boys delve deep into the ongoing and continued fallout from Jay Z’s partnership with the NFL, breaking down the latest reactions from Cardi B, Freddie Gibbs, Dame Dash and Colin Kapernick’s attorney. In what seems to be an occurrence of no research or vetting, the boys confusingly wonder why Rihanna will be honouring Shaun King at her next Diamond Ball Charity Event. Rounding off the news is the announcement that Stormzy and Maya Jama have broken up and the allegations that a Jorja Smith affair was the catalyst.

For the first episode of Season 3, the boys share their thoughts on Alex From Glasto’s debut single and the implications of having a respected platform for Black British music like GRM Daily premiering the track. Sope and Nic reflect on their time at the 2019 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans and recount their experiences watching legendary acts like Mary J. Blige, New Edition and Missy Elliott in addition to newer acts like Lucky Daye and Normani. In light of Mel B’s comments that Jessie J is “overrated”, the boys put their two pence on the sentiment that the UK allegedly failed Jessie J’s career. Arguably the biggest topic of the week, Eden leads a discussion on ASAP Rocky officially being charged with aggravated assault and the complicated issue as to whether black people should be rallying for him in light of his problematic views on police brutality and black women. Rounding things off is the boys evaluating why Tyler, The Creator deserved to beat DJ Khaled to the number one spot on Billboard.

Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans!
For this week’s episode, Jay Z’s controversial freestyle about gentrification kicks off the news segment. Eden, Nic and Sope consider whether the backlash is coming from a place of misplaced semantics or is it promoting the idea that black people should mirror the behaviours of white supremacist capitalists (00:21:48). Once again, Chris Brown has involved himself in drama after lashing out at the band CHVRCHES after criticising Marshmello for working with (00:52:15). This then leads to lengthy debate about Chris Brown’s overall career trajectory as the boys weigh up whether Chris has the ability to make a quality album in 2019 and more importantly if he even has quality albums in his discography at the moment (01:05:42). Next up is Remy Ma’s current legal woes in the wake of the news that she turned herself into the police after allegedly violating her probation by assaulting another woman (01:29:30). Concluding the episode is a short and sweet review of the 2019 Billboard Music Awards where Nic has a few choice words for one Taylor Swift and in true Sope form, he praises Mariah Carey for being honoured with the Icon Award (01:40:00).
