Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans!
For this week’s episode Eden and Sope hold down the fort as their third limb Nic is away in Oslo. Kicking off the news this week is Wiley’s latest beef with Drake and Giggs which resurfaced after Drake responded to Wiley calling him a ‘culture vulture’ (00:41:47). Next up, the boys assess whether Nicki Minaj departing from her managing team is the necessary change that is needed to breathe new life into her career (00:54:18). In a worrying and sad twists of events, the boys speak on the rumours that Britney Spears is currently in a mental health facility against her own will and speak in-depth about the stipulations of her conservatorship (01:02:15). Last but not least, Sope and Eden are left alone to finally discuss a major source of their rivalry; Beyoncé. The boys share their thoughts on Beyonce’s Netflix documentary ‘Homecoming’ and their thoughts on where she stands in comparison to Michael Jackson (01:13:12).

Last week was relatively slow one news wise - at least by the boys’ standard. No one was really moved by any of the major topics that buzzed around the music landscape in the last 7 days. Consequently, the episode structure is looser. Before officially kicking off the news section Eden asks Sope and Nic for their thoughts on whether artists in the UK are victims of incorrect genre categorizations (00:47:46). The boys then move onto the announcement that the Jonas Brothers are reuniting for a new album and share their thoughts on the new single ‘Sucker’ (01:08:48). A swift sidetrack sees the boys discuss the short-lived fame of OSH and what they think is next for people like him and Loz (01:16:46). The big elephant in the room is finally addressed as the boys once and for all offer their two pence on R. Kelly’s sexual abuse and child pornography changes (01:21:23). Next up Eden and Nic discuss their wider grievances with Ariana Grande’s persona in the midst of the recent controversy about her headlining Manchester Pride (01:48:55). Leading to a debate of what a ‘stan’ is and means (02:05:04). Lastly, the boys discuss the changing face and shifting connotations associated with performing in Vegas following the announcement that Drake will be hosting his own his residency there later this year (02:08:42).
