Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans!

While Eden, Nic and Sope continue enjoying their downtime in the lead up to Season 2 they’ve decided to answer some listener questions. Firstly they’re asked for their thoughts on online platforms such as COLORS, NPR’s Tiny Desk and Mahogany Sessions and how they compare to traditional mediums of promotion (00:01:01). The boys then have a deep think about the artists who have aided in expanding their musical tastes in regards to different genres and artists they otherwise would never have listened to (00:07:58). Lastly as the industry and public surveys Normani’s rising star, the guys discuss whether there is still a need for artist development in the age of streaming and short attention spans (00:14:44).

Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans!
For the final episode of the shows inaugural season, Eden, Nic and Sope reflect on how their favourite moments throughout the past 14 episodes. Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans!
For the penultimate episode of season 1, the news winds down and the boys follow accordingly, allowing for more free-flowing and tangential conversation. Radio 1’s poaching of Rickie, Melvin and Charlie from Kiss FM and what this means for diversity in broadcasting starts off the news agenda (00:40:00). The entirety of the Soul Train Awards is discussed in detail with Sope, Eden and Nic kicking things off with the soul cypher segment (00:44:50). Sope passionately preaches about the need to keep award shows like Soul Train alive as he verifies why Faith Evans and Erykah Badu deserved to be honoured for their indelible contributions to R&B (00:53:58). Once again, the boys share their mutual excitement and befuddlement when breaking down some of the acts that were nominated and won awards (58:53). Randomly this leads to a fiery dialogue about whether is correct to term Childish Gambino as a singer or rapper (01:04:26).

Welcome back to Don’t Alert the Stans!
For today’s episode, the conversation is more streamlined to focus on many of the controversial and worrying news that took place in the last week. With the possibility of an XXXTentacion fictionalised series apparently on the way, the boys ponder on the media’s obsession with glorifying abusers (00:47:30). Justine Skye’s implicit confirmation that Sheck Wes was the man behind her recent domestic violence situation is raised as the latter continues to have his breakout moment (00:55:25). Much to Eden and Nic’s happiness, Tekashi 6ix Nine has been arrested and is facing life imprisonment (01:04:42). The boys discuss why his punishment will set a good example to artists similar to him. Puzzled and confused, the boys seek to find an answer for where Wiley’s recent attacks at Skepta and Dizzee Rascal have come from (01:15:16).
