    TO RECORD OR NOT?

Keith couldn't come into the studio to record this week's episode of Dont Get Me Started due to a heavy chest and throat infection. But with some exciting news of two new podcast streams that the boys have started, Keith said let's do it over the phone. He's self-isolating out in the countryside but feeling forty percent better so he stepped up to give it a shot. It's a bit rough at times with his wheezes and sneezes but the effervescent spirit these two share still came shining through. Plus Keith announced his new podcast stream 'Surf Town' while Lee shared the news of his new stream titled 'Noosa Now'. Both these two new podcasts can be found under the Dont Get Me Started banner but will soon branch out to stand-alone under their own titles. One of the first Noosa Now episodes can be found here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3okPon1NztpF2oQLOpSVHB and the first Surf Town episode found here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3bi23umPAKY7WwuDl1lB9G

MARRIAGE, IS IT STILL RELEVANT - OR NOT?

For many, marriage is the ultimate public declaration that they are no longer available for dating or "playing the field." It's a binding commitment. Some people though feel that a committed relationship doesn't have to be so formal and often say that marriage is just a piece of paper. Marriage is of course much more than both these positions. There are implications, responsibilities, and many benefits, and challenges, that may not seem so obvious at first. Marriages are by nature a declaration that the union will be a long one - if not permanent. And with that joint growth comes productivity, accumulation and, in the majority of cases, children. Still, as each generation considers itself to be modern. society's norms are often challenged and today it's no different. Is marriage really the basic unit of society, and is marriage truly necessary to hold the fabric of society together? What is wrong with an emphasis on individual pursuits? Do couples have to produce children? Can't these positions be valid, and play a part in defining a new modern world? Good questions indeed.

DOES LIFE HAVE TO HAVE A PURPOSE - YES OR NO?

Although humans can be seen as part of the animal kingdom, there is something that intrinsically separates us from the non-human species. Just what that is might be hard to define, leaving it open to all variations of opinions and views. One thing that does appear to be particular to humans is their sense of ethics, morals and what might be right or wrong - which suggests their reasoning is loaded with values. Hence the question, "Does life have to have a purpose?" That is with an emphasis on the word HAVE. Which more or less denotes some sort of lofty purpose, or noble intention that we SHOULD pay heed to and act upon. But should we? Lee seems to think so - Keith not so sure. It's a big question that has most likely been asked since Adam was a boy. Never being two guys to shy away from the big stuff, they get right into this one.

    MEN'S LONELINESS

A recent article released by SBS, one of our government-run television channels here in Australia, reports that one in four Australian men do not have a close circle of friends and suffer from loneliness. The news article points out that it is not just an internal problem but now a serious health problem, akin to smoking fifteen cigarettes a day. Both Keith and Lee were shocked to read about this. Having just been reminded of the importance of their own friendship and recently posting a podcast on the positive value of having a good mate, they opened their microphones to discuss this alarming trend. As always they hope that, if there might be any take-ways from such discussions that are relevant to any listeners, then they do the best for themselves in acting upon it.

TIME AWAY FROM YOUR PARTNER - OR NOT?

A line in the great music group Chicago's hit, "Hard To Say Sorry" reads: 'Everybody needs a little time away, I heard her say, from each other ... even lovers need a holiday, far away, from each other.' But do they? Is such a move selfish, a neglect of commitment or a liberation and much-needed me-time to refuel the tank. In an, at times, free-ranging chat Keith and Lee discuss the pros and the cons of such a move in a relationship. And along the way unearth a few surprises - and questions, not just concerning their views, but about themselves.

    Sarah Sinclair    Real Estate Agent

Sarah Sinclair comes into the DGMS (Dont Get Me Started) studio to chat about the Nossa and surrounding district's real estate market. As an agent with considerable local selling experience, she shares first-hand insights into the character of the Noosa housing market. Sarah has also worked in real estate overseas, which makes for interesting points in relation to Noosa, as does what she shares about the local market specifically. Particularly about the recent price surge - and how that has impacted Noosa, "Noosa-style homes" and buyer's preferences. The conservation ranged from the importance of listening to customers, the future of the local market, its characteristics and trends to seeing houses as homes or as assets - and how that may come more into play in the future.

    MATES and FRIENDS

A mate generally means, for many cultures, someone you partner up with to share life - and mainly to do so for a lifetime. Of course, there are variations of that coupling but in Australia, the term mate signifies a very close, non-sexual relationship - almost like being joined to a sibling. To be a mate down here in Oz means you are more than a friend. To use an American term, a mate is a special buddy. It's also a general term used in a greeting such as, "G/day mate - how you goin'?" As being a mate is so respected, something of that respect is passed on in that greeting - even to a stranger. For Lee, the Englishman (Pom), calling someone mate in England does not quite hold the same reverence. So to hear his perspective of Aussie mateship, now he lives in Australia, is quite refreshing. But what of friends, is there a difference? And what about Femship, can a guy be a mate with a woman without intimacy? ... And do Australian women have mates? It's an interesting topic and boys get right into it.
