I enjoyed hearing my son read them aloud
This series made a reader out of my 8yr old! Thank you, David Adler! I enjoyed hearing my son read them aloud. It was the perfect blend of phonetic words and sight words to help him build vocabulary and fluency....I highly recommend it. The plot moves along well. THe characters are likeable and it includes jokes in context to look forward to.
Five Stars
Great book for 3rd graders.
Great for Beginning Readers
These books are great for beginning chapter book readers, especially those who like a little mystery. My daughter did well with and enjoyed these.
Good pre-teen read
Bought this book for my granddaughter, who loves mysteries, and she said she liked it a lot. She has since read other books by this author.
Perfect, Fantastic Books for Children Ages 7-11
I have nothing to do with the Cam mystery book series.... I just have a 9-year old daughter who was struggling to read for a while, then when we found this series, it all came together for her and she hasn't been able to put the books down. Our daughter has been swept off her feet by the Cam Jansen series, which was NOT CREATED FOR ADVANCED ADULT READERS, but for beginning CHILD readers, ages 7-10 or so. What makes this series great is that the lead character, Cam, doesn't have any real special super powers, but uses her brain and photographic memory to solve mysteries. It teaches children how to really obverse what is happening around them, and take small details in, in every moment. This skill, deep observation, will then later come back and help Cam solve very simple mysteries. Cam is not supposed to be overly complex, as these books are for kids who are LEARNING TO READ. Deeply rooted, complicated characters would not serve this series. This series is about putting together very basic little clues and figuring out new words that are related to the theme of the book. We are on book 26 now, and she has devoured books 1-25 at a rate of almost one book every 2-3 days.
Furthermore, I really appreciate the fact that this is an author doesn't make his characters call one another "stupid" or "idiot" or have the characters acting in "grown-up" ways so he can tap into our internet-jaded children these days, who are numbed by sweet, simple characters in sweet, simple stories. I don't want my 7 or 9 year old reading books that are too complex just yet... There is a time and place for everything.
I highly recommend these books for beginning readers who like mysteries, and for parents who appreciate the simple books that don't have sassy, snotty characters that your children will end up imitating around the house.
