    Good Book--Horrible Kindle Editing
The title of this review pretty much says what I have to say about this book at this point. I'm enjoying it, even though I don't usually like books written several decades ago. But this Kindle edition has horrible editing errors--words left out, misspellings...in some places it is hard to understand what the book is trying to say, even working within the context of the sentence/paragraph. So, to sum it up, I think that many people from children to adults will enjoy this book...but NOT in the Kindle edition.
    Poor formatting ruins this read
This review has nothing to do with the story itself, but rather with the Kindle edition, which is riddled with errors, typos, and poor formatting. My nine-year-old daughter devoured Mallory Towers and eagerly moved on to the St Clare's series, but instead of losing herself in Blyton's fictional world, she keeps coming through to show me this or that error. Talk about a jarring read. What a pity.
    Errors and typos
I love Enid Blytons and grew up reading this series, so this review is not a commentary on the book itself. It's more a review of the quality of the e-book. There were typos through the series, and not small ones. Sentences and even entire paragraphs were repeated at random intervals, while some ended abruptly. Words were substituted erroneously. I'm annoyed as I bought the entire series and found errors in every single book.
    Scanned quality needs improvement.
I was excited about the digital format. However, it is difficult to read because the sentences seem to run together. There are some typos in vol. 1 - 4. In vol. 4 there are quite a few of "I" in between the sentences.
    great!!
Wonderful childhood memories....wish we have more writers like Enid blyton, Hans Christian Andersen, brothers Grimm , and others writers from the sixties...

What an amazing MG fantasy series!
Where to begin with this book, except to say that I have enjoyed this series immensely. I know some of you are looking at this and saying UGH, Middle Grade Fantasy but this is so much more than your run of the mill Middle Grade anything. This book will have you completely enamored with the world and the characters, even down to the heroic, lovable, gigantic bat Hades.
Dream Magic is the second book in the Shadow Magic series and is a fantastic addition to the Shadow Magic realm. I am absolutely lost enthralled with this world and these characters. Lily's strength, her wit, her desire to do what is right for her land and people. She's a 13 year old girl thrust into an almost impossible situation but she faces each new challenge with her head held high and the knowledge that while she may fumble things every now and again she is doing all she can to be everything her people need. She is putting aside her childhood to lead and to lead with grace, honor, and dignity...or at least as much of all that as a 13 year old girl can. Thorn...oh Thorn, he is the epitome of a hero. He comes from nothing (though I have to wonder how true that will be in the end), he is brave, he is a bit brash, he is daring and more than occasionally reckless. He jokes of things like honor and station but he continually proves his honorable traits by caring for a land that is not his home, a people that do not always acknowledge his worth, and saving time and time again those that are well above his 'station' in life because he cares.
I love Lily and Thorn together as well, they are clearly still children yet we watch them battle with more than monster, we see them battle with growing 'teenage' feelings and Joshua writes it in such a way that while it is simple looks, jokes that aren't really as much of a joke as the parties might want the other to believe, and deep concern for each other. The friendship and possible budding 'relationship' between Lily and Thorn is not a huge part of the book and yet it is, it's this little teaser that readers will love because we so want these two to be happy and in the end we want them to be happy together.

  • The Nearly Calamitous Taming of PZ Audiobook by Martha Ritter

Title: The Nearly Calamitous Taming of PZ
Subtitle: A Laboratory Dog's Search for Love
    Author: Martha Ritter
    Narrator: Martha Ritter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-24-17
    Publisher: Bradley Street Press
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
A charming, classic adventure tale about the scary, crazy, and heart-thumpingly joyful plunge into connecting with others.
A foxhound has spent her life behind bars, known only by the PZ-5934 tattoo in her ear. In this story, inspired by the life of a real lab dog, PZ knows nothing but a laboratory cage. She has never even seen the sun. But a super-powered diva ladybug named Dottie changes all that.
The unlikely pair undertake a hilarious and adventurous road trip through civilization and finally find a home with Olivia, a restless, solitary girl who has secrets of her own. Unexpected adventures await the dog, the girl, and the ladybug as a shocking, hidden part of their town reveals itself and everyone must sort out when to trust and when to battle.
The Nearly Calamitous Taming of PZ, lyrical and approachable, has both humor and heart. Although intended for children eight through 12, its classic unfolding and off-beat characters tickle the fancy of adults as well. It is both an adventure story and a tale with many layers - about overcoming obstacles, mining experience for what matters, and doing what is necessary, though not always desirable, for friendship. Ultimately, it is about the joy of a hard-won connection.
Taming of PZ is a fresh, poignant, wise, and sometimes downright wacky book.
"Not since Kafka has an insect risen to this level of artistic genius." (Dottie)

    Just Amazing
This was a truly wonderful and inspiring book. How someone as beautiful as PZ could overcome the obstacles and makes friends.
This book to me is about good coming from bad, over coming fears and learning to trust. Life is constantly filled will changes and this is highly recommended. My 11 year old loved it as do I!
A New Dimension to a Wonderful Novel
I am a lover of this novel, and was curious about listening to the audiobook version of a story I already loved. I wasn't disappointed: the sound quality is terrific, the character's voices are fun and engaging, and the story moves along quickly, the aural equivalent of a page-turner. All of the characters' voices are read by the author, from the diva lady bug to the frightened, hesitant sound of PZ herself. I especially loved hearing the voice of PZ, the laboratory dog who is the protagonist of the novel, who upon first reading the novel stayed with me for a long, long time.
In short, for those who want to engage with a story they love already, or for those who want to be introduced to something new, I'd highly recommend this audiobook. PZ is something, and someone, very, very special.

An incredible new adventure story for fans of Narnia and Wolves of the Beyond!
Ever since Spencer Plain's parents disappeared, he's been staying in Bearhaven - a secret city where bears talk, go to school, develop secret technology, and plan missions to rescue others who need help.
Spencer's been planning, too. He's in training as an operative with the Bear Guard so that he's ready to go help rescue his parents. They've been captured by Pam, who runs an illegal ring of rare animal trading and has been training an army of bears under his control. The Plains are being held at the Hidden Rock Zoo, which is Pam's formidable fortresslike base.
Spencer and the team will have to sneak in, find his parents in the maze of the zoo, and make their escape. Or at least that's the plan. But when it starts to go wrong and Spencer and Aldo are cut off from the rest of the team, it will take some fast thinking, some serious stealth, and a lot of teamwork to get everyone out safe!

An absolute classic from Diana Wynne Jones
I love Diana Wynne Jones, and the complete Dalemark Quartet, so I was delighted when this came out. The narrator does a competent job, although I am not sure about the bits when he sings. The fact that it is unabridged was a massive bonus!
