  • Dress Rehearsals by Madison Godfrey

    Title: Dress Rehearsals
    Author: Madison Godfrey
    Narrator: Madison Godfrey
    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 2 hours 38 minutes
    Release date: March 1, 2023
    Genres: Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
A memoir made of poetry, Dress Rehearsals documents a decade of performing womanhood in a non-binary body. Dress Rehearsals is a raw and beautiful exploration of what it means to be feminine. Beginning with teenage yearning, these poems both celebrate and grieve Madison's sexual awakening as they transition into the glittering femme fatale. Navigating first love, menstruation, chronic illness, sex and patriarchal power dynamics, Dress Rehearsals is a coming-of-age story that has never been told - a decade of performing womanhood in an elaborate and shifting costume. This collection is a unique and transformative experience and, with its careful balance of dark humour and warmth, a queer celebration of gender.

  • The Day-Breakers by Michael Fraser

    Title: The Day-Breakers
    Author: Michael Fraser
    Narrator: Michael Fraser
    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 1 hour 17 minutes
    Release date: February 28, 2023
    Genres: Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
Saturated with locutions lifted from the late 19th century, The Day-Breakers deeply conceives of what African Canadian soldiers experienced before, during, and in the immediate aftermath of the American Civil War. “It is not wise to waste the life / Against a stubborn will. / Yet would we die as some have done. / Beating a way for the rising sun” wrote Arna Bontemps. In The Day-Breakers, poet Michael Fraser imagines the selflessness of Black soldiers who fought for the Union during the American Civil War, of whom hundreds were African-Canadian, fighting for the freedom of their brethren and the dawning of a new day. Brilliantly capturing the rhythms of their voices and the era in which they lived and fought, Fraser’s The Day-Breakers is an homage to their sacrifice and an unforgettable act of reclamation: the restoration of a language, and a powerful new perspective on Black history and experience.

WINNER OF THE 2022 PULITZER PRIZE IN POETRY WINNER OF THE 2021 NATIONAL BOOK CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD FOR POETRY WINNER OF THE 2022 PEN/VOELCKER AWARD FOR POETRY COLLECTION WINNER OF THE 2021 LOS ANGELES TIMES BOOK PRIZE FOR POETRY A resplendent life in sonnets from the author of Four-Legged Girl, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize 'The sonnet, like poverty, teaches you what you can do / without,' Diane Seuss writes in this brilliant, candid work, her most personal collection to date. These poems tell the story of a life at risk of spilling over the edge of the page, from Seuss's working-class childhood in rural Michigan to the dangerous allures of New York City and back again. With sheer virtuosity, Seuss moves nimbly across thought and time, poetry and punk, AIDS and addiction, Christ and motherhood, showing us what we can do, what we can do without, and what we offer to one another when we have nothing left to spare. Like a series of cels on a filmstrip, frank: sonnets captures the magnitude of a life lived honestly, a restless search for some kind of 'beauty or relief.' Seuss is at the height of her powers, devastatingly astute, austere, and—in a word—frank.

    Publisher's Summary:

  • Classical Poetry of Japan by Basil Hall Chamberlain

    Title: Classical Poetry of Japan
    Author: Basil Hall Chamberlain
    Narrator: Denis Daly, Sarah Bacaller
    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 1 hour 37 minutes
    Release date: February 21, 2023
    Genres: Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
This collection of Japanese poetry was compiled and translated into English from an anthology known as The Collection of Myriad Leaves, and from a number of other anthologies made by imperial decree between the tenth and fifteenth centuries. This period has come to be considered the golden age of Japanese literature. In those days, the cultivation of verse was especially considered the privilege of the princely and aristocratic. A poem written by a man of obscure rank was sometimes included in the royal collections, but the name of the author was omitted as a matter of course. The distinctive qualities of classic Japanese poetry are undoubtedly due to the air in which it flourished. The verse is never religious, and sometimes is even immoral, but it is always suffused with a certain hue of courtliness, even gentleness. The language is of the most refined delicacy; the thought is never boorish or rude. There is a sense of self-collectedness also found in the poetry of France and Italy during the Renaissance, and of England during the reign of Queen Anne. These examples of Japanese poetry exhibit the most exquisite polish, allied with an avoidance of every shocking or perturbing theme; they combine the enduring lustre of a precious metal with the tenuity of gold-leaf. The more vivid emotions of grief and love, as well as the horrors of war, are either avoided or referred to by elegant periphrasis. These ancient anthologies have often been drawn upon as inspiration for poets of more recent times.

    Publisher's Summary:
Move from a transactional experience with God to a transformational friendship with Him through prayer.   How can time with God be a source of peace in a loud and distracting world? In Beholding, spiritual director and poet Strahan Coleman invites readers to discover the joy of being with God, not just working for Him. As they inhabit the art of resting in God’s presence, prayer becomes not only a place of seeking, but becoming.   Beholding calls Christians to understand how:    - Prayer is so much more than spoken conversation between us and God; it’s a way of existing together.  - Beholding God in prayer is profoundly connected to beholding and dignifying others. - Embracing prayer practices from different Christian traditions digs a deep well of peace in the soul. - Our everyday ordinary lives can become the meeting place for God through silence, solitude, community, creation, and hospitality.

    Format: Unabridged Audiobook
    Length: 0 hours 57 minutes
    Release date: February 3, 2023
    Genres: Poetry
    Publisher's Summary:
Erre ad most újabb alkalmat a Benső beszéd: hangminta címő hangoskönyv, melynek szövegeit a kolozsvári születéső, kiváló színmővész, Szilágyi Enikő tolmácsolja. Podonyi Hedvig szerkesztő
