    Quick Regency Romance
This book is perfect if you enjoy short romantic stories with happy endings. Because the book isn't very long there isn't much time for details but the story is interesting enough to hold attention. There are a couple steamy scenes but I'm not sure it should be in the erotic category as the love scenes were at about the same level as the regular romance category.
The narrator's voice was clear and very pleasant. Overall, I would recommend this book on a day you don't have the time to devote to a longer book. And, the price is reasonable so you don't have to use a credit.
    Nice romantic story
Would you consider the audio edition of A Scandalous Affair to be better than the print version?
It is a short story, so i don't think that matters. The audio edition is good, so if you are working, or some other thing, it is a great story to have on you ipod.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
That it was the male version of a wallflower. Just that the man is considered to be arrogant and having a cold heart. There was not mutch romanc in the story. They go from diner to bed. No flirting or sweet words. But the ending is very romantic.
Have you listened to any of Priscilla Carsons other performances before? How does this one compare?
I belive this is the first book of Priscilla Carson, so i can''t compare it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. It was easy to gues what would happen in it.
    Any additional comments?
I belive this storyline could be exploited mutch more. But overall a great book for some easy listening.
    Title Hypes the Book Up
The book wasn't bad. I was looking for a real big scandal but got let down. The story isnt erotica either. Well not on my level. Although the story line was nice and I did enjoy it for what it was. I would have liked more. I felt the writer could have done wellmore.
    Short and sweet.
This is a good little story and I liked the characters. It is worth the price. If your looking for a short regency book with heart, this is your stop. I even looked to see if the author had anything else out there to listen to, but alas no. Narrator was good, but not outstanding.
    Wonderful short romance
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book. It was sweet and passionate.

    Publisher's Summary:
Catherine Coulter's medieval melody continues with this audiobook, the second in the Song Series. Lord Graelam de Moreton is willing to accept his new bride, Kassia, as she appears - innocent and guileless. But appearances can be deceiving....
    Members Reviews:
    Controversial, but Historically Correct
I had read the unabridged version of Coulter's Fire Song back in the 90s, and never did forget it. Only recently, thanks to a knowledgeable network of historical author colleagues, did I relocate the title.
In reading the reviews, it's obvious Coulter didn't make many friends by having rape as one of the themes in the story. As a medieval historian, though, I must contradict popular opinion--while it's true the subject matter would definitely not be acceptable in current romance novels, the tale was definitely told with astounding historical accuracy.
The gentle and innocent heroine, Kassia, awakes from a near-death fever to discover her father has married her off to a neighboring lord and mighty warrior, Graelem. Her father acted with no malice: in fact, he was certain that his daughter would die before the morning, and by legally binding her to a powerful lord, he would effectively protect his losing his land to his wicked nephew, Jeffery. Graelem rides off to his own keep, convinced he has become a husband and a widower in the same day.
But Kassia survives, the first inkling we see of the hidden spirit and fortitude of this impressive young woman. When told of her betrothal, she gracefully accepts her fate and rides off to meet her husband.
Lord Graelem is shocked when his wife arrives, but is initially is taken and charmed by her delicate beauty and seemingly gentle nature. Soon, however, her lifted chin and stubborn refusal to be treated like a "dog or a broodmare" angers Graelem. That's when the fireworks begin.
One of the many 1 star reviews comments that Coulter's "hero is a serial rapist." I did not find this to be the case, at least in the abridged audio version. The fact of the matter is that, yes, in the middle ages, men did dominate their women, forcing their submission in all things, with refusal sometimes resulting in their whacking off their heads (Henry VIII did it more than once, I think).
Coulter may have angered the more modern thinking of some 21st century women, but her frank portrayal of how life really was for women back then is something I admired. It took courage to write the story so true to historical reality, even if it was completely against current, modern feminine status.
In reading this title, I encourage one to also remember it was written 30 years ago--how much more sensitive feminist issues were back then, and how much courage did it take to write such a historically correct tale?
I thoroughly enjoyed Fire Song, and will be going back to enjoy the rest of Coulter's series. Many historical novels I have read/listened to are so riddled with "wrong facts," it's like fingernails on a blackboard. I will continue to enjoy/re-enjoy Coulter's Medieval Song Quartet) with the comfort of knowing the story was written with the ability to take me back to the Middle ages, realistically, without Hollywood's glorification and deletion of the distasteful aspects.

A Unique Story with "Sticking" Power--Memorable
Unfortunately the narration was poor to middling which impacted my enjoyment of this book. The intonation, etc., of the narrator made the heroine come off as totally unsympathetic in the beginning of the book. Only as the story moved on was I able to get past the problem with my listen--the narrator mispronouncing French words that were spoken by the heroine, a French teacher and fluent in French, for one and this downbeat tone of depression for the heroine's voice that seems due to the narrator rather than as written. A shame because the overall story is unique, has a hopeful message, and is a memorable one. Catherine Richmond has no control over the narrator and had I read the book I'd likely have given it a 5 Star rating. Characterization was refreshing. I'd recommend the book but I'd avoid this audible version unless, like me, you really need to hear it instead. I will be reading future Richmond books but hope to avoid this narrator.

    I'm Hooked!
If you could sum up You Never Can Tell in three words, what would they be?
I enjoyed Eagle's previous books, but this one really had me on an adventure. All the way to Hollywood! Great Book, made the drive on I-5 enjoyable!
What did you like best about this story?
    The Native American Love Story/storyline
Which character as performed by Katrina Carmony was your favorite?
    Kole Kills Crow, Heather Reardon
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    You betcha
    Great Story
What did you love best about You Never Can Tell?
It was a great story, bringing up many American Indian Issues and problems. I grew up on a reservation so i am more aware than most the problems the American indian faces.
Did Katrina Carmony do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, she did a good job especially picking up the unique native American cadence from living and growing up on a reservation. My one problem was there was no editing on the recording at all and sometimes it was like she was reading the story for the first time and didn't get the emotion right also i could hear her turning the page and at one point thought a cat was meowing or purring
    Ok
The reader was good and I think the story has potiental, but I gave in an hour of listening and it just didn't grab my attention enough to continue, maybe I'll come back to it in the future

A celebrated beauty, Madeleine DuMais' cleverness is her greatest asset - one she puts to good use as a spy for the British. Assigned to help break up a smuggling ring in the south of England, she arrives at the quaint resort town of Winter Garden and meets her partner in subterfuge: Thomas Blackwood.
Unlike any man she has ever met, Blackwood's quiet confidence and mysterious intensity send shivers of pleasure coursing through her. And, despite the danger, as duty gives way to desire, Madeleine aches for Thomas's gentle touch on her body... on her heart... on her soul.

A SENSUAL, SEXUAL SOJOURN IN WINTER GARDEN
What a lovely surprise this book was - totally different from the usual 'handsome Rake meets beautiful virgin' type books. Yes, it was a little bit far fetched in places, but it was such a nice story you just have to overlook the flaws.
Thomas had been left disabled in the Opium wars but, despite this, he became an undercover English spy who asked for the help of beautiful Madeleine, his counterpart French spy, to help in the latest mission to capture an Opium Dealer in Winter Garden but this wasn't his true mission - it was to win Madeleine's heart forever.
They were instantly attracted to each other and began a journey of discovery, passion, sexual interludes, intense, but very touching, human desire and eventually love. This book was filled with great characters, a bit of a weak plot, however its such a heart warming love story that it can't help but move you.
    Worth a credit? I loved it - so it's a definite yes.
    It's hot in Winter Garden
Would you consider the audio edition of Winter Garden to be better than the print version?
The story is the same, but books, make boring everyday chores enjoyable.
Both versions of this story were Great
What was one of the most memorable moments of Winter Garden?
When Thomas reveals to Madeleine who he really is, and the reason for his lie.
Have you listened to any of Heather Wildss other performances before? How does this one compare?
She has a great voice, and superb accents
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was so weepy mid way through the book, realizing ( or so I thought) that both main characters were going to suffer for their choices.
    Any additional comments?
Loved this book, apparently, it is a series with 2 additional stories... I'd love to read the other 2.
A lush love story that somehow left me ambivalent?
In the first few minutes this book seemed well written but slightly droning, however at the moment the two main characters met eyes, I was gripped. (Never did I think I would use the term "gripped" to describe my reaction to a book, but nothing else quite fits.) From that instance onward, for me the book was driven by the interaction of the two main characters, Madeleine DuMais and Thomas Blackwood, spies for the British Home Service. All the other characters and even the plot to uncover the smuggling ring became more than secondary. Madeleine and Thomas were interesting and evocative central characters. The main characters and their relationship unfolded slowly and their interactions became more poignant and sensual. This was a terrific love story.

    MORE ALYSSA EVERETT PLEASE!!!
I always hesitate before trying a new romance author because you never know how corny the story will be, or how bad the writing. Alyssa Everett is one of those that you come across and hope that more of her books become available, like yesterday. This is the sweetest story of unrequited love that is finally satisfied. The hero has loved the heroine his whole life and she has NO idea. I thought that it would be difficult for me to like her after reading the description, but once again Ms. Landor's voice makes the heroine sweet, and the author makes her humble. Wonderful combo! I have never run accross a romance where the hero actually wants the heroine throughout the whole book, but this is a wonderful change. He loves her, REALLY loves her, and it is nice to see an author portray a "nice guy" as the hero for a change! I HIGHLY suggeset adding this to your collection!!!
    A tender and passionate romance
Would you consider the audio edition of Ruined by Rumor to be better than the print version?
I haven't yet read the print version, so can't really comment. It's been on my TBR pile for a while which is why I decided to listen to the audiobook instead.
Who was your favorite character and why?
No question - Alex is gorgeous. He's a lovely beta-hero, the epitome of the strong, silent type who will take a lot of crap, but only to a point - after which he comes out fighting and God help whoever gets in his way.
He has a subtle sense of humour and watching him learn to unbend and realise he doesn't have to carry his burdens alone is just... *sigh*
What about Rosalyn Landors performance did you like?
Rosalyn Landor is far and away my favourite narrator - I have a serious girlcrush on those velvety tones! Her voices for the different female characters are all very distinct so there is never any confusion as to who is speaking, and the tone she employs to voice Roxanas five-year-old brother is clearly a boy rather than a girl! George is suitably pompous-sounding, while Alex is somewhat softer I thought she did a really good job in conveying his below-the-surface frustration at his awkwardness and his insecurities.

    No sex but....
Usually I like a lil sumthin' sumthin' in my romances, and this book had 2 1/2 kisses and NO SEX! But it was a great story that kept me riveted the whole time.
    If you're looking for Austen
    Avoid this.
I must admit that, while I'm a fan, I only truly adore three, maybe four (sometimes Sense and Sensibility is okay, sometimes it's screechy) of Jane Austen's novels, but I do so love those. And after starting Pride and Prejudice again, I got a hankering for something that might be within the same vein.
What a disappointment this was. Clunky language, so many adverbs and adjectives to tell me EXACTLY what I needed to be feeling, rather clever writing (Don't tell me that she just did something passionately. Show me. Let me feel the heat. Please!) The characters are flat, and this is sad in that the secondary characters have some real life to them, real flaws, real charm, an authenticity in the way the connect with life. Wouldn't it be nice if the two very individuals we're supposed to care about had those things going for them? Instead, they have some written flaws that are easily overcome, never really get in the way. We never see them truly struggle for what they want. There's a lot of written mental confusion, but no real motivating angst. It's unsatisfying, and they're given no chance to shine. And the times they do connect, one remembers that, given the time period, these things are impossible. It makes for tawdriness instead of a simmering passion.
I admit, I'm not a regular reader of romance novels so what do I know? But this just seemed too much like it was written with a formula in mind, with scenes already mapped out, and the characters were an afterthought and they were simply plugged in.
Plus, the last straw: All this takes place in Bath? In England? Perhaps a British narrator would've helped. But the narrator was what appeared to be the last in a long list of afterthoughts.
For a charming romance, how about trying "Stay," by Allie Larkin? It's contemporary, but "The Marriage List" has about as much historical charm as wilted and yellowed lace. You know it's supposed to be old, but it's just plain ugly...
AHHH WHEN DUTY & DESIRE COLLIDE
Very enjoyable Regency romance as the storyline immediately sucks you into a dilemma as Viscount Radford is instantly attracted to his tenant May (alas a nobody) but his duty (and Mother) demands he weds.

    Like a computerized audio
This is my first review after purchasing hundreds of audios. No voice differences between characters. It is like listening to a computer. Not up to the usual quality of the publisher. I don't know if I have ordered a book with this narrator before but this one is terrible. The book has a little lower price but I'd rather pay a little more to enjoy the listening experince.
    Disappointed
The narrator is not good. I almost stopped listening half way through but I enjoy Victoria Alexander books so I pressed on.
    Good story...narration so/so.
I enjoyed the story very much...I do not usually like books with a paranormal theme, but this one had charm. The narrator was very good with the voices for elderly women, but I had a hard time differentiating some of her other voices. She did improve towards the end, however (or I got used to her).
    Tedious experience
Where does The Perfect Mistress rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It was not the worst but I found it a struggle to get through
What was most disappointing about Victoria Alexanders story?
The dialogue was so difficult to listen to. But, I realized as I listened to the second in the series that it was the narrator who made it so tedious.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jennifer Dixons performances?
No, if I can avoid this narrator I will.
    Loved the story
Enjoyed the story and the writing. Pretty good dialogue and characters. The narrator was not so good - I don't need full dramatization, but a little more distinction between voices, particularly in the midst of a conversation without 'he said' and 'she said' would have helped. Sometimes I lost track of who said what.
This was my second Victoria Alexander book and I will look for more.

The end leaves much unresolved with a main character. This seemed like an unfinished trilogy. The antagonist in this book is almost identical to the one in Sins of Omission - age, gender, and physical appearance.
    Awesome
Loved it. One of her older books but a definate winner! be sure to read both books in the "series"

Minor review of the Campion Family Series by Annie Groves
I really enjoyed this series of books - Campion Family Books 1 to 5. I learned a lot about the Liverpool area of the U.K. and now have a better understanding of what the people that lived in that area went through during WWII. I have ever so much respect for the people of Great Britain as they really showed such great strengths of character during and after these wars in Europe. It is still hard to understand and relate to the fact that so many lives were lost during these wars. The Author, Annie Groves, wrote this series with such compassion and care of her fellow Englishmen. I am now continuing to read more of the books authored by Annie Groves as I enjoy her style of writing and the way she portrays her characters so that they are ever so real. I am so sorry that Annie Groves has passed away .... but her books and her spirit will live on.
WW II history as told by Annie Groves
Annie Groves has practically rewritten WW II history with the English at war with the Americans. The German POWs seem to be saints and were only in the War because they were forced. I also skipped many pages describing the characters' fashions, wallpaper, carpeting, and bedding. I would much rather have known the characters' mannerisms so that they would feel more real. I'm very disappointed in this book and would not recommend it.
    Great Family Saga
Great family saga of an English family during WW II.
