Fun sweet sexy

Several hot passionate moments alongs with sweet emotions and a dash of adventure. A fun light read that I enjoyed.

A better ending for the story would hav made the book worthwhile.

What was most disappointing about Anna Campbells story?

The portrayal of the heroine. She was TSTL, even though she was hailed as a smart person.Chapter 27 has her saying that she hates the hero, but then wants to kiss/touch/make love to him. The author should understand that this is not romantic. Having sex with someone you don't trust, think is a liar and hate sends a wrong message as to how women act. It also justifies the thinking that some men have that a woman is only "saying NO, but really wants it". Nothing romantic there!!

Did Antony Ferguson do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, he did an adequate job with thie narration.

What character would you cut from A Rake's Midnight Kiss?

The vicar. When his daughter tells him that she was assaulted and shows the mark left from being hit, then does not believe her...what can I say. Nothing fatherly in that behaviour.

This was my least favourite of the series. It gets better with the last two books, but if I was reading them in order I probably would not have continued after listening to this one. Any one that passes on this and listens to the others won't be missing anything.

A high flying YESsssss!!!

I rarely listen to the under three hour books, and am happy that I did listen to this one. It was fun! Enjoyable and humorous, I loved it! And since great literary excellence is not generally expected in a couple of hours I find nothing to complain about. Nothing what so ever.... I loved this book!

The narrator was great and it was definately worth the few very enjoyable hours it filled.

CREDIT worthy? Do you know what a credit is valued at? So it would be a definate yes except it is '' should I spend the money worthy?'' since it's priced less then a credit. Still its a YES!

HEAT factor? 1 or 2.... maybe. It's driven with lots of longing but the steam is not there at all.

A Captivating Read....

This book tells the story of Gideon Drake, a male prostitute who is forced into this lifestyle by the very powerful, but petite Lady Lavender, the owner of the upscale male brothel called Lavendar Hills. Gideon has been forced into this servitude for over a decade. Gideon tends to be rougher with clients and is the type who takes total control in the bedroom. For his skills he is a much desired commodity among the ladies of London who frequent the brothel. Gideon had been planning an escape for years, with no success. THINGS I FOUND HARD TO PROCESS:

I suppose I had a hard time with the thought of forced prostitution, especially for a man like Gideon Drake. There is an underlying sorrow that a strong, independent man, with Scottish heritage, could be kept in servitude against his will. I suppose I dont like the thought of anyone being enslaved and forced to perform on command. The good news is that he escapes!

GREAT & UNIQUE LOVE STORY:

From the very opening of the novel, you just know its going to be a gritty & provoking read. Elizabeth is in a carriage on her way to the brothel when she spots the carcass of a rabbit being ripped apart by vultures. She identifies and feels that if she does not play her cards right, she could also represent that carcass on the side of the road being picked apart by her enemies.

The aspect I found so intriguing about the relationship between Elizabeth and Gideon is the shift of control that flips as a fish out of water, from side to side, between the two. After Elizabeth slyly manages to take Gideon away from the brothel, it is made clear to readers that she must seduce him (which should be pretty easy), make him fall in love with her, and eventually marry the man.

Elizabeth has promised her late husband, that she will remarry Gideon, the notorious and handsome rogue. So, as a reader you feel this strong need to rehabilitate Gideon and position him to be the proprietor of the vast expanse of wealth and properties of the family. This mystery about his connection to the Ashton family is so interesting and you just eat up every little clue or detail that gets you closer to finding out the truth behind Gideons background. Gideon, himself, is sharp, strong, but very emotionally numb.

UNFORTUNATELY NOT THE BEST OF THE SERIES

Typical enjoyable SE listen - not your usual Rake/Virgin type romances - but this time it's about an Earl who is an ex government spy but who is now a self employed spy and has found his prey - a lowly member of staff at the famous Tantalus Club but he gets more than he bargained for.

Unfortunately (but fortunately for them I guess) the pair hit it off immediately, seemed to go to bed together from almost the start and it was their first meeting - alright they each had their motives but this left a big gap for the listener to enjoy and savour the romantic and emotional build-up towards love and, hopefully, all the sexual chemistry which is involved. They have their sexual encounters but not too explicit, the plot seemed to overwhelm and drown the couple's relationship. However, thumbs up for the book cover!!!

Worth a credit? I have listened to them all and she is an author I like so I guess, for me, it would be a YES but for someone new to the series/author then I would have to say NO keep your credit because she's written far better books. This could be a stand alone listen.

It has a bit of a Courtney Milan feel to it, in that the characters are uncomfortable with rank and actually work.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was rather bland. It's possible that it's just that I don't like Anne Flosnik's voice. She has a low, almost grating, tone that just bothers me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked that the heroine's values were more liberated, and I loved the resolution.

Exciting book leaving me to want the next one.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series except for the second one it was good but I did not like the conflict. This book had such a great heroine (the distaff side of a self-made man). I cheered for her throughout. I love that Tantalus club. It was great to have appearances from characters of precious titles and now I really want to hear about Jenny. I doff my cap to Anne Flosnick for another brilliant job.

Should have skipped this one

I should have listened to the previous reviewer about the heroine being so terribly childish (Amazon.com). I not only found her unlikable, but the whole book as well. The hero wasn't impressive and the story drug on and on stating the same things over and over until I wanted to scream in frustration. In fact, I think I did. I also didn't care for the narrator. She had this monotonous and nasally-thing going for both males and females.

Bit of an afterthought from Book 1 in series.

Maybe a better editor would have helped? Quite a few lines were repeated and I kept thinking, "Wasn't that already said in the last chapter"? Kinda weird. Male voices were creepy!

THE SECRET IS - IT'S A LOVELY REGENCY ROMANCE

Now what do I wish for in a historical romance? - an entertaining plot would be nice then add a sexy handsome bad boy Rake just waiting to get reformed by a likeable Lady, mix them up with a collection of other entertaining amusing or dislikeable characters, give them all clever witty dialogues, then finally add passion, sex and, of course, a romance that sweeps me away.

Well if that's what you're looking for too - then look no further, right from chapter 1 Ms Bowman gives us all the necessary ingredients to visualise each funny, touching, frustrating scene as it unfolds and we share the young, naive, passionate and immature spoilt girl as she slowly but thankfully finally grows up. We also witness a confirmed bachelor eventually succumbing and giving in to love.

Worth a credit? D lish ous - so that would be a YES. Could be a stand alone listen but, as I've said before, life's short and so, if you like this genre, why deprive yourselves go ahead treat yourself to book 1 too.

Another winner!

Although the reviews were not as good as for Winter Ballad, I purchased this book based on a hunch about the author. I was not disappointed. Although the book itself had a lot of typos in it, the plot was swift, the action non-stop and the romance truly satisfying.

I enjoyed seeing Tess Fallon's character evolve from a browbeaten, down-trodden wife to a courageous, determined woman. Her evolution is due in part to the love of another, bigger-than-life hero, Joaquin Morales, half Cheyenne, half Mexican. Seamus McKenzie as the villain works in concert with frightening circumstances to tear the lovers apart and bring about their downfall.

I am a voracious reader covering many different genres. Romance is a recent, late-in-life addiction. This author knows how to spin a tale and "Dancing Moon" has become one of my favorites in this genre. My catalogue of favorites are books that I will not only recommend to others, but will read again. I'm an English teacher and that's one of the pleasures of my job.

I have a list of ten authors who, after reading at least five of their works, I believe will never let me down. I suspect Barbara Samuel will soon be on that list.

Some Challenging Ideas for Romance.

The heroine of this novel is challenged by her beliefs and prejudices and to some extent so is the reader. Ms Samuels has not taken the easy way out with a number of issues. Her characters are complex, as real people are. She doesn't shrink from showing brutal attacks by Indians on wagon trains, but she also shows the same people behaving in very different ways.

She depicts a heroine whose husband is brutal. Nothing unusual there. Many romances do that. But Ms Samuels defies romantic convention by allowing her heroine to commit adultery. True, she has already left her cruel husband, but there is no waiting for the husband to expire before the affaire with Joaquin Morales begins.

Ms Samuels explores several aspects of slavery, again being brave enough to examine more than the conventional roles and behaviours. The relationship between slave and master/mistress is treated with some compassion.

Overall, I found this book daring for the romance genre, but the better for it. I have very much become a Barbara Samuels fan.

Another great book by Barbara Samuel. Her books are wonderful. I am a major fan.

Meh.

I'm a Barbara Samuel fan--but not necessarily a historical fiction fan. I wanted to give "Dancing Moon" a shot though. I liked Jaquin's strong, noble character that paired nicely with Tess's equally strong--and unfortunately sometimes annoying--Irish character. My complaint is that it feels like it was actually written in that time period, which while that may be the point, for a contemporary reader, I found the dialogue, emotions, reactions and characters very dated and hard to follow. I'll continue to enjoy Samuel's writing, but I'll probably steer clear of the historical romances.

I thought that the story wasn't original but different enough to make it interesting and a pretty good read.

Books just okay. Bad Narrator

This narrator did an awful job. The book was just barely okay. The heroine was one that you want to slap, A bit to whiny for my taste. I love Sabrina Jeffries, this is one of her older books where the H and H fight the attraction and feelings all the way to the end, which becomes annoying. I like her the more recent books better. I am currently READING her heiress series which have all be great so far. I am looking forward to starting the Hellions of Halstead series. These books are so much more entertaining and a lot less frustrating. I cant recommend this book unless its on sale for real cheap and you have nothing else to read/listen too.

The Story is melodramatic, narration is weak, and overall painful to listen to. The women were not very bright.

Really Terrific Book!

This is one of those really good books that come along on occasion. strong independent women, a messed up good guy who needs female influence in his life, a seriously evil bad guy, a mystery, and a couple of sweet love stories, all work together in a well written story.

It works and it works well. This is one that goes into my listen-again library.

What does Romy Nordlinger bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Narrator is great at bringing the whole Upstairs/Downstairs to the series - love the accents and her characterizations.

Not a favorite

This book seemed undeveloped. Events thrown in and then dropped. The gambling, for example. I nervously anticipated much from that scene. The book seemed rushed.

The ending was a bit too hokey for me. Charlotte took an unnecessary risk for what was, to me, a ridiculous reason.

I enjoyed the fact that Charlotte and March got along so well. It was a cute romance but not one of the best I've listened to.

I listen to a good number of audiobooks and I prefer an English narrator for these historicals. That said, this narrator did a decent job.

disappointing story.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The narrator is excellent but even the narration could not makeup for a slow, boring story. I stopped listening after 3 hrs. I had no interest to finish the book. I doubt I will try another book by this author.

Very poor narration...

I haven't even finished the story. It seems really simple so far, but the narration does not differentiate between characters and situations - little emotional difference. This makes the story seem boring. I don't think it's worth the credit.
