A very well designed tale delivered expertly!! Without erotic sex scenes but with heated longing this book was a joy to listen to. Incredibly narrated and written it's exactly what a HEA story in this Era is supposed to be.

Loved it!

What made the experience of listening to The King of Threadneedle Street the most enjoyable?

It had a beginning and ending. No cliffhanger

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alysia drove me crazy at times. But, at the end it all worked out.

I loved Andrew's grandmother, she was great, no can mess with her. No-scene type of women.

What about Heather Wildss performance did you like?

The entire book was entertaining.

Wouldn't waste the credit

Some of this was interesting just because it tied into the first story, but overall was kind of lame. Most of the characters were OK, but the story got old fast. There was not a lot to hold my interest and I found my mind wandering. I kept with it because I was interested in the fates of the various characters, many from the first book, but I would not recommend this book.

I gave it a 2 overall because I didn't want to knock the narrator. She was fine.

WOW!!! Well written story with beautiful words.

Lovely romance with lovable characters! This is the first romance I read that the heroine has independant spirit and not immediately fallen into handsome and wealthy hero. This is my first with the author and I'm glad that I decided to spend my credit on this. I love the narrator as well, so perfect with the french accent.

Civil War story set in Texas Rio Grand Valley.

Lavender Blue by Parris Afton Bonds is a historical romance set during the Civil War in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. This is the first time I've ever listened to a civil war novel set in Texas, which included many references to the war in Mexico. It's very evident that the author knows her history!

I really liked the premise of this book, with a strong heroine saving her plantation by transporting cotton and trading it in exchange for medical supplies and ammunition. I also loved the hero who was a French pirate and blockade runner who secretly loved the heroine since her childhood. While I enjoyed many parts of the story, other parts seemed disjointed and didn't flow as naturally. Plus there was this very annoying parrot that would say the strangest things - his comments continuously broke the flow of the story.

Julie S. Halpern narrated and did an admirable job. She had different voices for each character, both male and female, including a way of portraying Kit the pirate in such a way that he sounded very tall, mysterious and handsome. I received a copy of this audio in exchange for an honest review.

Great Story

Loved the story but the accent they gave Leif and the some of the other men was horrible. almost made me not want to finish the story.

A Highland Jewel!

If you could sum up Highland Jewel in three words, what would they be?

I recently got into highland romances, thanks to a recommendation from a friend. And I am so glad I did, the men are such Alpha's! Leith and Rose's love story is captivating, full of angst and Romance and suspense. The narration was fabulous, love her tone and she did a great job with the male voices and their sexy scottish 'brogue'. Lois Greiman creates a colorful cast of secondary characters- I'm looking forward to Roderic and Colin's story, so psyched that this is a series!

Horrid naration.

The narration was awful. She spoke too breathily and ran words together. I slowed it a bit and that did help. I'm sure I would have rated it much higher with a different narrator.

Charming debut....

I love Juliana Gray's writing style...graceful, witty, with sincerity and humor at all the right places.

This story may seem entirely improbable ~ and parts may be, who knows? But the crazy goings on surrounding Finn's invention of a horseless carriage and the subsequent exhibition of various prototypes were all too possible. Things could get dicey with that crowd. Anyway, where would we be without a villain?

The romance was sweet and showcased the strengths and vulnerabilities of both Finn and Alexandra.

A shady owner of an Italian castle leased the castle for a year to a group of three English ladies while simultaneously making the same deal with three English gentlemen. So, two more stories will follow this entertaining debut.

Incidentally, I will never again visit the fruit market without expecting to see "astonished bananas". lol Clever writing.

Rounding up to 3 stars because of the heroine

Devil in her Dreams involves a rather straight forward plot with a few twists here and there. The leads had an instant connection but they never connected strongly with me.

Louisa Whitten is visiting her sister when she and Devlin Barrett are reacquainted. Both of these characters I believe have been in previous stories. This is the first novel I have read by this author so I had no backstory on them.

Louisaâs grandfather is forcing her to marry by Christmas. Louisa is a Vicarâs daughter and everyone thinks she is biddable and sweet and well, a perfect vicarâs daughter. She doesnât act that way around Devlin in fact they argue and push each otherâs buttons. She is also pretty self sufficient too and just a little more daring than your average miss.

Louisa soon develops strong feelings for Devlin and he for her but he has three sisters who need husbands and Devlin is obsessed with finding them mates. He just cannot imagine marrying Louisa before his sisters are married and this is what keeps this couple apart, which I found to be a really silly reason not to marry. His sisters are nice girls and just a little adventurous, they are not hopping on ships with pirates or anything. Louisa is the one with the logical brain here and realizes she can actually be a help mate to Devlin but it takes him a while to understand this.

Lord Marsdon worked for the Home Office (he was a spy for England). Elizabeth and John Trent were also spies for England. They had just come from France. Elizabeth' s sister Louisa was visiting with them. Louisa was more proficient with a gun than Marsdon. They were threatened by Frenchmen as there were bounties on Elizabeth and John. Louise rescued Marsdon when he was overcome by the thug. She fainted when she blood though.

I thought this was a really good book. I could see why Clay was the way he was, having been brain washed by such a bastard of a father. Elle was a little silly at times, with her refusal to straighten out the misunderstanding and her pride. And it was kind of odd that she would turn down Acker's proposal but accepted Lord Wilkes, who gave her the creeps.

Oh, and, I really hated her grandfather, Lord Stanhope. I can only hope he dies in the next book, if he's in it.

There was some great sexual tension and great sex in this book, too.

As to the narrator: She did a great job with the voices. There could have been a little more emotion in her reading but she did a great job, over all.

Good Story! Great Narration.

I really liked this story. The story line was good. I really liked how strong the heroine was. She was not whiny, simpering or stupid. Some reviews on amazon didn't like the hero. I did. He had some father issues, (his father was a total jerk) but he got past them and was great.

There was great dialogue and chemistry between the hero and heroine. Nicely written sex scenes too.

The narration was very good, all the characters had their own distinct voice and she did the men's voices great. I did listen to it on 1.25 speed which made it a perfect speed.

Credit worthy? Yes.

I read this book a long time ago and loved it. I was dissapointed that I could not get it on my Kindle..I ordered it and was very happy that it came so quickly and was in excellent condition. Very good seller and quality

An Interesting Mingling of Love and Hate

This is a very old novel (1985), and like a good many of the early so-called "Bodice Rippers," this one relies heavily on physical or mental cruelty in its narration. In fact, this one could almost be called a "hate" story rather than a love story. It's the usual plot, conquered Southern bell marries Yankee and after many ups and downs involving their opposed beliefs and lifestyles, find true love. Of course the minute they find that love, the story ends. I mean...who wants to read about two people achieving happiness. Right?

Drayton (the Yankee) is a doctor who loses his wife and unborn child when his half-brother, a pyromaniac, burns down his house. This makes him abandon his career, becoming cold and withdrawn and refusing to speak of his wife or the tragedy. Fortunately, the War intervenes and he becomes a Union officer.

Ambrosia is the second daughter in her family, unloved by her mother because she's less attractive than her sister but given an education by her father because he sees something of himself in this daughter. She loves Ledger who, of course, marries her sister, and after the war when his wife abandons him because he's now crippled and disfigured, he realizes his love for Ambrosia but rejects her because of his marriage. Ambrosia turns to Drayton who saved her from marauding Yankees during the War but afterward allowed them to burn her home to the ground. She's alternately grateful and angry at him, and now that he's part of the occupying forces of Charleston, she allows her hate to become foremost. After a single night with him in which she becomes pregnant, Ambrosia and Drayton are married. Drayton loves Ambrosia and is happy there's a child, but because of his previous loss, he hides this, telling her he's "merely doing his duty" by marrying her. Mistake #1. The statement that he never thought she might get pregnant is preposterous. The man's an adult, and a doctor. He's delivered babies. He had another child though it died with his wife, and he doesn't think having unprotected sex with a virgin might result in a pregnancy? Come on. (Yes, they had condoms back then.)

After that everything goes downhill. Mistake #2. Drayton takes Ambrosia to gatherings of his Yankee friends where she's forced to sit and listen to them vilify the South, and her entire way of life and not say a word. Such a thoughtful husband.
