It is a life Jordan enjoyed until he realized something, or someone, very important was missing.
Miss Audrey Montgomery had been warned to avoid rakes like Jordan Trent but fell under his spell like so many ladies before her. She should have known better and vows to protect her heart whenever he is near. If only his kisses weren't so delicious it would be so much easier.

    Don't miss this one!
If you're a fan of regency romance, love a good rake, a good tale, and someone to wholeheartedly cheer for then this book was written for you. I don't know what to say except that I for one am glad I didn't miss it!
    Credit worthy, YES!
    Great Book, Great Narration!
Loved this book. I really liked Jordan Trent's character. He was hot, sexy, and smart. I really liked Audrey's character as well, she was smart and strong, not wimpy and simpering. There was great sexual chemistry and a nicely written sex scenes. Lots of great dialogue. A fun story line and plot. Some crazy people, a bit of mystery and murder. This was a fun story to read\listen to.
The narrator was just great. All the characters had their own distinct voices, and she did the men's voices really well. I like Marian Hussey as a narrator.
NOTE-If you read this series start with Scots, Spies, and Salacious Lies. Its 3 novellas and helps with understanding all the characters as this series continues to develop.
I have already started the last book\novel (there is one more novella after this) in this series, A Lady Revealed, which is not listed with this series on audible but IS available on audible.
    The Tenacious Trent's Reading order:
Compromised for Christmas (novella) (story one in Scots, Spies and Salacious Lies)
Landing a Laird (novella) (story two in Scots, Spies and Salacious Lies)
    A Misguided Lord
    A Perfect Gentleman
Devil in Her Dreams (novella) (story three in Scots Spies and Salacious Lies)
    A Lass for Christmas (novella)
    A Reluctant Rake
    Lady Revealed
    Lady Disguised (novella)
    Hope this helps.

Painfully Plodding Narration Ruins this one
When will authors realize that it matters very much who they choose to read their material? All narrators are not equal, and a bad one can really destroy a good book.
    Waste of money and time.
A good get away book, without any complexity.
A cute little regency romance with just a tad of ghostly paranormal thrown in. I enjoyed the story; it was a simple romance just shy of being cheesy. I liked the characters enough I wanted them to have their happily ever after. I'm not sure the story needed so much time spent on Madam Lou the medium as it gave, but I guess she was trying for a series and this was the glue that held them together. With some of the Madam Lou's stories that Ford heard while he was at the club, I thought that maybe this book is part of a series. It is but this is the first book of two. I also wish that there was more face time with Ford and Alice together. Audible only has this book from this author in its vast library. Narrator was not my favorite, but with this book being a regency romance in England I didn't expect too much. Plus I only spent 3.99 on the story with the Whispersync program, it was worth that.

    Title: Saving Grace
Subtitle: Lord Rotheby's Influence, Book 2 (Volume 2)

    Narrator: Pearl Hewitt
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 1 min
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-04-13
    Publisher: Catherine Gayle

    Genres: Romance, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
The blasted man will not stop following her. Well, he isn't following hernot exactly. They are just always thrown together, and he is everything she wants but cannot have. It is downright infuriating - especially when he kisses her. Lady Grace Abernathy has been ravished and left pregnant (and thoroughly unsuitable for any honorable gentleman).
This would not be such a gargantuan problem if Lord Alexander Hardwicke would simply stay away from her as she asked. But leave it to her meddling Aunt Dorothea - who means well, of course - to continually thrust the two into each other's company. Against both their wishes.
These distractions are almost more than a reasonable lady should be forced to bear, let alone one who is dealing with all the difficulties inherent with both an unwanted pregnancy and a dire lack of a husband. Alex left London to visit his deceased father's oldest friend, Lord Rotheby, and to get away from his mother and her matchmaking schemes, only to run into more of the same at every turn.
Why can he not determine for himself the course his life will take before everyone pushes him to take a wife? But the more time he spends in the company of Lady Grace, the less he finds himself able to ignore his growing attraction - and his burgeoning need to protect her. Must he cause a scandal in order to protect her from one?

    Not the best but entertaining
I liked this. It was enjoyable most of the time and the characters were annoying some of the time but overall it was a good book. The audio narration was fair. It took me a while to not be irritated by the meek voice of the reader but, once I got past that, it was fine.
    Great voice work!
I enjoyed listening to Ms. Hewett's narration of this story very much. Her enunciation was great and I enjoyed hearing the British pronunciation of some words that I had never heard before. Her characterization was good and she made the most of the slightly silly story. I would gladly listen to her read another book, she was very entertaining.
    Predictable
From the title it is clear how it would end. However I found the heroine to be contradictory. Thank goodness for Alex. He was interesting and made the book.

Too good to only be a a novella!
I loved it! This is one of the very few novellas I have listened to. I rarely pick anything this 'short'. But I loved it! It had room to be a longer story and altho I enjoyed every minute I did feel cheated by the length... the whole story was there I just wanted more!!!
So far the Bexley-Smythe Quintet is too much fun to miss!
CREDIT worthy... YES, BUT not on a dollar value, just buy it, a credit costs more. But definatlly YES!

    Heroine is too Shrewish
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Less emphasis on women's rights or at least giving them female characters a little feeling. Instead, they are mad at every man they meet - before the guy even opens his mouth.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The beginning where the hero takes the place of his dead friend when he returns to England from the Battle of Waterloo was the most interesting. The least interesting to me was the mystery of the feud going on between the two families.
Did Cat Gould do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, but could have been a bit better. Bet she was as board as I was reading some of the drivel that came out of the female voices.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dangerous Illusions?
I would have gotten rid of the silly mystery all together and toned down the heroine's ferocity.
    Any additional comments?
After all this, I'm tempted to listen to Book 2 of this series as chapter 1 was tacked onto the end of this book and sounded interesting. Hopefully, the author was just trying to find her way with book 1 and book 2 will be better. Though Cat Gould's narration is different, I enjoy her portrayals if the book is half-way good.
    Loved it
Great first book to this series. My only complaint is that it ended to abruptly without tying up the loose ends to the stories. The narrator could have been better, she made all the men sound like villains.

Great sequel to the 1st book Mistress of Pleasure
This may have been better than the first book, and the first book Mistress of Pleasure was really good. Great strong characters, great story, witty dialogue, hot and steamy sex, its all here.
At the beginning of the book I did think I was reading the books out of order. However, I finally realized that what was happening with the main characters, Alex and Charlotte was also happening at the same time as what was happening in the first book with Maybelle and Edmond. I know that sounds confusing, but its not really. You will figure it out. You're not reading out of order. Book 1 is Mistress of Pleasure and Book 2 is Lord of Pleasure.
Ahh if all men were required to attend the School of Gallantry, that would be treat. LOL
The narrator did a good job, but again, just as in the first book she pronounced the "ton" as the "tone" which was annoying. Historical Romance readers know what I am talking about. Otherwise she did do a very good job.
    Definitely credit worthy.
    3.5 STARS.... A GOOD-HUMORED ROMANTIC REGENCY ROMP
I was unaware that this is actually book 2 of the School Of Gallantry series but it could be a stand-alone listen and I listened to this first and I'm glad I listened to it the wrong way round because some of the characters seem a bit heartless and cold in book 1. It also gives a full description of how and why the secret tunnel and friendships were developed.
It's a totally implausible, passionate, sweet, funny, romantic romp through Regency London where we find Charlotte a beautiful, penniless Widow who's turning to desperate measures because her life is so dire. She propositions our hero Alexander - a reformed Rake who's handsome, charming, witty and deeply cares for the well-being and reputation of his 5 sisters (whose witty banter stole the show) and, because of his reformed ways he doesn't take her up on her proposition.....

    Very good.
This is the final book of this series and a great finish. Loved the character of Myles, who was in the first two books. Genevieve was the sister of Alec who was the hero of the last book. Myles and Genevieve have been friends since Genevieve was a child. A lovely romance.
I loved this book so much that I read it twice
I loved this book so much that I read it twice; once for my book club, and then once again when I read the other two books in the series in order. This author has a wonderful sense of humor, and had me literally laughing out loud. Looking forward to reading other books by this author.
    The Marrying Season -
Hmmmmm. I wanted to like it. I didn't really dislike it; however, it was disappointing. Maybe I should just take it in pieces. The characters, if you have read the two previous novels, are familiar. I don't thanks they were developed in any additional death in this novel. When the characters are under-developed and the conflict is just too contrived, and the story never really flows the story becomes rather tedious. I like formula romance. That being said character development is critical. The plot can be simplistic but if you don't have insight into and a concern for the characters it's difficult to like the total product. The character of Myles cries for more clarity. Maybe it's the nature of the venue. I'm not sorry I bought the book but it's probably not one I'll read again.
    Good
I love the story. I like how it included then other characters from the previous books. It .kept my attention but I feel something was missing from the story.
    Quite pleasant.
Genevieve Stafford, is a young woman from a very old and respected family who was raised by her very proper grandmother, and as the saying goes, the apple hasn't fallen very far from the tree! Genevieve is so proper, she is thought by some to have ice water running through her veins.
One day, unwittingly, Genevieve finds herself embroiled in a scandal not of her making. To her rescue comes her brothers dear friend, Myles Thorwood, who proposes marriage on the spot.
Myles must first try to thaw Genevieve, if he ever hopes to have a more meaningful relationship with her, which he seems to do quit well, but misunderstandings soon cause a rift between the two young lovers and someone can not let the scandal die down, causing continued mayhem for the young couple too.
    Will love win out?
    Will our villain be unmasked?
Read on, dear reader, to find out!

Just hit the 'Add To Cart' button it's DELICIOUS
Valerie Bowman is a gifted author who delivers a Regency love story that will captivate your imagination, transport you to a bygone era where she will entertain you with, not only a clever plot, but also a passionate romance...... and then leave you begging for her next release.
Kate (a beautiful widowed Duchess) is in prison sadly awaiting her fate for murder but one fateful day she is visited by James (a handsome, wealthy, loveable hero type and a Viscount) and he makes her a proposition - he will help her but in return he wants to publish her scandalous story. However, little does James (aka Lord Perfect) know that his perfect life is about to be radically changed forever when he agrees to harbor the accused murderess.
The H/H will sweep you away into their tumultuous lives where there's instant attraction, a murder to solve and trust to be earned and along their touching journey hearts will heal, bonds will form and emotional barriers will come down leaving desire, passion and love to blossom.... but is the cost too much?
Worth a credit? If you looking for a historical romance that's got loveable characters, snappy witty dialogue, an entertaining plot, passion and a little sex, great secondary characters that add charm to the story and a yummy love story then you too can be up 'til 3 am engrossed and fully immersed in carriages, masked balls, handsome dashing men, picnics in the park, the ton and, of course scandal. For me, I willingly paid the price.
Fast paced, endearing story of love
This book started off exciting and immediately sucked me in. James (Lord Perfect) is heart-stoppingly wonderful and Cate is a beauty caught in a terrible plight. Their love is sweet, but tangled, passionate yet resisted. If you want an exciting story of love with beautiful detail, this is your book.
    Third times a charm?
In this third book by Valerie Bowman we get to see Lord Perfect's story as he finds romance, pursues and then discards it only to eventually make peace with his perfection and throw off his perfect mantle to become human like the rest of us and truly fall in love. It's a nice story but not as much fun as her first two books.
The book starts out as the story of a Duchess accused of murdering her husband and half way through the book when we find out who the real murderer is I felt like the whole thing was swept under the carpet and thrown away leaving me feeling a little let down and abandoned as I wondered where the story would go with so much time left.

    Sweet Story
What did you love best about Summer is for Lovers?
I loved the chemistry between David and Caroline. There wasn't much sex in this novel (only the last scene) but there was plenty of build up and I feel like the main focus was on the romance. Yes, there was some sexual tension, but so much more emotional connection and friction.
What about Lana J. Westons performance did you like?
All of her characters had slight variations to their accents. I love it when narrators do this, it makes it so much more authentic and you know who is talking without needing a textual reminder.
    Any additional comments?
It's a really sweet story. The characters are very likable, though not too perfect, and genuine. The plot evolved nicely and I had emotional reactions to this book, but none too intense. It's a good book to read as a break from life or intense novels.
    Awesome!
Beautifully written & narrated! Jennifer McQuiston has written another heartwarming story and Lana J. Weston does a wonderful job narrating!
    The talent of Jennifer McQuiston
I like Jennifer McQuiston's books! This is no exception.
Strong female lead. Troubled male lead. Good chemistry but neither will acknowledge it. I wanted to smack David at times and tell him to get over his previous loss. But a good story and a decent narrator.
Looking forward to downloading the next in the series.
