    No. Just... No.
I can't really say much about the story. I couldn't stay with it as the narrator was so horribly bad. But sometimes, if the story is REALLY good, you can get past that. The premise seemed to be pretty good, but the execution fell short. Just couldn't hack it, and I am a patient, tolerant person. Couldn't listen to even the first hour. I got this because the previous two had been tolerable though, those didn't have great narrators either.
Save the credit for something that won't distract you with how irritating it is to hear.
    Couldn't finish...
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I was so distracted by the narrator's voice that I couldn't finish it...
    Any additional comments?
I have ordered the book to read...because i want to know how it ends! I hate to give a negative review to a narrator because I can imagine how difficult it is and the problem was not how she delivered the material but the narrator's voice (too high pitched for me..).

    Captivating Romance
In the Garden of Temptation was the second book of Wicklund's that I read. (The first was Lord of Always -- a wonderful romance with a paranormal element.) I'm thrilled that In the Garden of Temptation, a riveting romance, is now available as an audio book.
Helen Lloyd's proper, starchy English accent lends itself to this story full of neat twists and turns.
Adam Stanford, Earl of Ashworth, is a man who is honorable and above reproach. He's always done the right thing. Then he meets the beautiful -- and married -- Lady Catherine Bourgeault, the beautiful, young wife of one of the most disreputable men in England.
Stunned by a passion and a love that no amount of conscience can deny, Catherine and Adam risk everything for a few moments of stolen bliss. Unknown to them, every event from their introduction to the consummation of their love has been orchestrated by Catherine's evil, demented husband for his own dark purpose.
When Baron Bourgeault finally springs his trap, Catherine is forced to break Adam's heart in order to save him. The baron whisks her away to his crumbling castle in the country. As he sinks deeper and deeper into his psychosis, Catherine knows that her life, and all she holds dear, may be forfeit unless the power of redeeming love can save her.
Wicklund has a way with women characters and the knack for presenting them as likable and honorable even when they may not be engaged in honorable actions. I understand these women, and I like them. Her talent with characters extends to men. In this book, she takes an honorable man and makes him behave dishonorably, but we don't care! We still like him. We understand how he is in the grip of a love he never expected to feel. We see his battle with his conscience.
Wicklund's book is captivating and Lloyd's narration brings the book to life.
    Excellent character development
In this book, even the villain triggers pity....
It was a good read where I rooted for everyone, secondary characters, Villain, hero and heroine.
    Painfully Romantic
This book is fabulous. Such twists and turns and each character is slowly unveiled and just when you think you know everything you don't. Not super mysterious but very romantic and believable for that time period.
Catherine's drive to do as she is bid despite her own desires to act otherwise is typical of the time period but they don't make her overly dramatic. The author created the perfect point of fiction with reality in all of the character's behavior.
She could have had fights going throughout the end of the book but instead chose the more realistic approach to the issue at hand - Catherine and Lord Ashworth and made it a triumph in the end by default.
    Wonderful!
    CLASSIC LOVE STORY
This was a fantastic story, the twists and turns were just incredible.

Yet it is Tess who awakens in the dark cave to a shivering awareness of a powerful body resting intimately upon her...and a shameless desire that leaves her in disgrace. As he recovers, Storm, too, surrenders to an unrelenting passion that may destroy them...or capture them forever in a forbidden love.
    Editorial Reviews:
Barbara Edelman's animated and captivating performance of Too Tough to Tame elevates this suspenseful and steamy Frontier-set romance to another level in her portrayal of the passionate, against-the-odds relationship between the wounded Native American Storm-in-His-Eyes and Tess Summar, the white woman who nurses him back to health.
Edelman impressively displays a variety of cadences and inflections throughout Deborah Camp's work, switching from the brusque, no-nonsense drawl of the duplicitous Marshall to the firm yet sensitive tone of Storm-in-His Eyes with equal aplomb.

An Irish lass. An English lord. A love that overcomes all boundaries.
August Grayson has secretly dreamt of the girl living on his family's Irish estate since childhoods spent together in Killarney. Now a proper Lord of the British Empire, he knows that Maeve could never be more than just a distant fantasy. Still, if only....
Maeve O'Connor owns nothing in this world but her good name, which proves just enough to win a proposal for a marriage of convenience to a good, Irish lad. Until the wedding, however, she's in dire straits. Rent on the cottage she and her father share is due, but there simply isn't the money to pay. Driven to desperation, Maeve hopes Lord Grayson, childhood chum turned dashing English rogue, will prove lenient when she comes seeking clemency.
The temptation presented proves too much, and August offers Maeve a compromise: Should she permit him twice as long on each succeeding visit to do whatever he wishes in pursuit of his pleasure, he will consider her rent paid. Starting with a mere five seconds, pulses soon outrace the ticking clock, as August's desires become Maeve's own. Passion blinds them to the challenges closing in on both the Irish and English fronts, threatening to destroy the love they've only just rediscovered.
Working to bridge that which divides them, tempting fate with each stolen kiss, and torn between desire and obligation, Maeve and August must strive to overcome all and find a love by any measure...

    Don't Miss This Book
If, you love historical romance then don't miss this one.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I dont even know how to begin this review. So I'll start with the following: I absolutely LOVED it. Definitely one of the best HR stories I've ever listened to and I have listened to a few. I'm actually sad the journey is over, but what a ride this was. The love story between August and Maeve was both tragic and beautiful. We get to see glimpses of their past, present and future. The jumping back and forth between time periods was a little difficult to get use to, but the story it weaved was unbelievable. It was one epic journey that leads to one heck of an ending.
R rated but an Excellent Plot
The R rating is due to the plot. The flash backs and jumping to the past confused but in all
    Spellbinding excellent
Couldn't stop listening. Wonderfully written historical romance loved it from beginning to end I lived in characters life and times.
    :(
I wanted to like this so much but the audio narration was not the best and a bit distracting. Then the characters weren't very likable and I didn't find myself invested or rooting for them. too many twists and turns, some unnecessary.

    HATE THIS DAMM BOOK!!
I agree with you Laura Evans. Even though I wasn't too crazy about the heroine because she seemed cold; however, I like the hero and I firmly believe that the story had potential and I was so hopeful about their path to true love. And when the hero and heroine fell in love, I couldn't be more pleased and bamm!!! The heroine married someone else!!!! What the hell!!! I'm sorry but I hate stories like this where the heroine temporarily ended up with someone else, sleeping with another man, making all sort reasonings and justifying their actions. If this is what romance novels have gone down to, then I might as well watch all the crappy reality shows. How could you Julianne MacLean! This is not why I read romance novels. I'm so disappointed and angry with myself that I didn't do any research. From this moment on, no author will be an automatic buy for me. Gawd, I wish I could throw this book out of the window - too bad it's in my kindle and I can't return it. Julianne MacLean, you just lost yourself a fan. I wish I could give this book a zero.....
    Great addition in series
Great conclusion to the series. Yes, the characters are frustratingly flawed but (of course) has a happy ending. I don't understand why the other reviewer was so hard on this story it had action, intrigue and passion. I really like Ms MacLean's writing, this book is not in any way badly written. The plot is well thought out and was executed beautifully.
I enjoyed reading the Royal Trilogy series
I enjoyed reading the Royal Trilogy series. In this particular Book 2, it has a happy ending that makes it worthwhile throughout the whole story.
    Five Stars
    Good Author!!
    Princess in Love
Enjoy reading books with connecting characters. Well written. Would consider reading other books from Julianne MacLean or other books in the historical romance category.

    I Couldn't Finish it! :-(
The story sounded cute, but...... I stayed with it an hour, and couldn't stand it any longer. The story may have gotten better, but nothing could make the narration any better, except a different narrator.
    characters and story not believable
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
characters one dimensional.. not worth a credit! Story not even believable nor did I care about the characters...
What could Anne Marie Novark have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
more depth to characters and a more complex story
Would you listen to another book narrated by Pearl Hewitt?
    no
Grat storyline. But AMN could get more out of it.
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Well no. I will give my opinion, if someone ask for it. It's to short. Anne Marie Novark could get so much more out of that storyline. She is a great writer. So this book I find a bit disappointing.
What did you like best about this story?
The storyline. I just think the book was to short.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Pearl Hewitt?
I have. The first book from this series. She dos a god job.
Did The Viscount's Surprise inspire you to do anything?
No. It just made the houscleaning more easy.
    Any additional comments?
There is not much to say. I had hoped for more, so not a credit worth.

Beautiful young Melanie Johnston had every reason to hate Roland Donovan. It was this man who caused the death of her beloved grandfather. It was he who possessed her in a night of mischief and madness, forever staining her honor. It was he who drove away the well-horn suitor she was to have wed. There was only one way for Melanie to take revenge - she would marry him and then use her every feminine wile to destroy him. But Melanie did not dream then of the strength of her own hungers - and the weakness of her flesh!
    Members Reviews:
    Great Narrator!
The narrator, Kayla Asbell, really enhanced my enjoyment of this book. I was very disappointed that she hasn't narrated anything else--I would love to hear more from her! I liked the story but didn't find it exceptional in any way. Overall I would purchase this again and would also recommend it to a friend.
    Absolutely Adored It!
    Any additional comments?
This story was spun with pure passion, romance, revenge, adventure and intrigue. It transported me to an entirely different era where honor reigned supreme. Both of the lead characters, Melanie and Roland possessed true bravery and conviction and the tension that flowed between them was tantalizingly palpable.
The narrator, Kayla Asbell was able to bring these characters vibrantly to life. The genteel world of the South opened up to me by her sensual Southern drawl and the multitude of characters were each so specific that there was not a single character that lacked vitality and charm. Her Melanie was both strong and sweet and despite the gender difference, she inhabited the brooding, yet tender, ruggedness of Roland with her versatile voice. I would love to hear more from this narrator.
    A Must-Listen!
What about Kayla Asbells performance did you like?
This is a must-listen for anyone who loves romance! Kayla Asbell brought the characters to life with depth and nuance. From plotting revenge to the tender love scenes, the narrator kept me totally engaged throughout. Definitely recommend this title!
    What an angsty, emotional read!
The underlying emotional current this novel evokes is ANGST! Oh my goodness, this novel will summon up your fight/flight responses and make you feel on edge due to the suspenseful, and revealing moments! There is adventure in this book, plenty of it, but most of all, this book chronicles the journey to love for a relationship that seemed doomed from its beginning.
This novel is beautifully written. At first, it takes some time to get used to the amount of detail and historical presence in the book. Blakes writing style unfolds a vision of a southern society with polite gentlemen and ladies who live vigorous lives. Yet, the luxurious lifestyles enjoyed by the upper class are built on the backbones of African slaves whose wills have been swallowed up. This book gives a complex historical perspective that may be hard to digest for the modern reader. I know I had a hard time with the reference to slaves and some of their situations. Blake also spares no sentiment when creating dangerous villains who are vicious in their intent in hurting the leads, especially the heroine. This novel is definitely what is known as a bodice-ripper novel. Those parts are very hard to read because they just make you feel sick to your stomach.
My favorite part of this book was the hero, Roland Donavan.

    I enjoyed this story
    **This review has spoilers**
This was a really good book, with an important life lesson weaved within the pages. I have often tried to teach my own kids, that if you carry around hurt, or anger, you are only hurting yourself. You are not hurting the person that caused that pain. Once you let go of that pain, and anger, Love, and Peace can be found. Alexei had been carrying around anger, and pain for 15 years. The pain of losing his family. Once he was able to let go of that anger and pain, he was able to feel Love, and peace.
The story starts out with Paige running from men that wanted to hurt her. When Alexei herd her scream he came to her aid. Alexie knew Paige wasn't like any other women he had ever known. He showed her one magical evening. The night was like a fairy tale, which most of us can only picture in dreams. That night they created a baby. The story has twist and turns, and the suspense was good. There were parts I wanted to yell at Alexei, but that is typical in books like this.
I'm from Texas, so I really enjoyed the last chapter.
**Spoiler** My favorite part of the book, that came from last chapter.
Sample from Chapter 13 - ""But, Paige, I have been drawn to you from the first moment I met you. You are unlike anyone I've ever known. You are so fierce and strong, yet you don't seem to always know it. You are uncertain of yourself sometimes, uncertain of your beauty and appeal, and you have the kindest heart of anyone I know. You cry over art, you laugh like an angel, and you'd fight to the death to protect those you love." The tears were flowing down her cheeks now, and he wiped them away with his thumbs. "Shh, Please don't cry, Paige. It breaks my heart when you cry."
great plot premise, but plot loses steam halfway
Poor Paige is having a really bad week. She has a hopeless crush on her boss and her job is at stake since his company is at a brink of bankruptcy. Her younger, irresponsible sister goes missing and Piage in an attempt to find her on the streets of Moscow, stumbles into a rowdy group of troublemakers. As she flees, she is rescued by sauve Alexei, the seemingly white knight on a charger. She spends a blistering hot night with him and discovered to her horror that he is none other than her boss' business rival! Worse still, she was going to expect his baby.
The premise of the plot was interesting and the book was a page turner until halfway through the book where the plot seemed to be completely spent out and nothing else really interesting happens.

    Hated the narrator
What did you love best about Royal Passion?
This is one of my favorite books so I was thrilled to see it out on audible. The book is non stop, meaning there is no slow places in it. I like that. I just like the entire book.
What other book might you compare Royal Passion to and why?
Royal seduction. It's the first in this duo of books and tells the Hero/heroine's parents story.
I will be checking back in the reviews to see what other people put as their answer. I have been looking for a long time another book comparable to this one.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I hated the narrator. I was so upset when I first started listening I wanted to beat my head against the wall. This is one of my all time favorite books and For so long I was hoping it would come out in audio. To say I was thrilled when I saw it out is an understatement. I grabbed it instantly, I was so excited. Then it started and THAT voice.....I wanted to cry. I really thought of sending the book back for a refund. But I have decided to work though my issues and grit my teeth.
But this is one narrator I will avoid.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I liked where the three girls took on a mob with epee's and grit.
    Any additional comments?
I read a lot and I will say that I have about 50 to 100 favorites. this book is one of my favorites. I like that there is something constantly going on and the book just flows seamlessly into each event. I would recommend reading Royal Seduction first. I will warn you that the writer has a strange way with words in that book.
I wish she would write a third book in this series but since she wrote these books in the 80's I am not holding my breath.
A sweet romance steeped in meaningless details....
There are so many things I loved about this book and especially the love story between Roderic, Prince of Ruthenia, and Mara Delacroix. This book was great because it is about the second generation of the marvelous characters of the first book. Roderic is the son of Angline and Rolfe, who is now the king of Ruthenia. Now, Roderic is just irresistible, gorgeous and why shouldn't he be?--He is the son of Rolfe, and beautiful Angline, at that!
Roderic is handsome and strong-willed like his father, with an intellectual appetite for debate and wit. He is cultured, well-learned, and very much the people's prince as he can comfortably interact with gypsies and nobility alike. But, he is also like his sweet mother Angline. Roderic is gentle and kind to women in a way that his father wasn't (Rolfe has always been too rough around the edges...LOL). Roderic is a gifted musician and he's just very sweet! I was happy about the love development between Roderic and Mara.

There weren't any surprises, which is a shame, as the writer shows she has the right tools at hand.
I'm going to have to listen to the Stone Creek novel by the same author before I can make a fair decision on whether or not to add Ms. Novark to my favorites list.
Will I listen to this one again? No, I don't think so, and that's my benchmark for romance novels.
    Not what I expected
    Any additional comments?
This book should not be under the category saga; it should be under chick lit and romance or mild erotica. My rating is unfair because it reflects my personal opinion of the start of the book. All the way through there are lingering and lustful thoughts etc. which you expect from some regency novels. I don't personally enjoy this type of book but I'm sure it will be very entertaining to others. I will be returning it. If it had been listed as erotica or romance rather than saga I would have not bought it.
