Engaging, fun, entertaining

Who was your favorite character and why?

Benji. For a baby, he seemed to know that God had his best interest at heart and was going to make everything ok.

Have you listened to any of C.J. McAllisters other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. He did another good job with this book also.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was a quick listen.

I got this book via audiobook boom and enjoyed it. The story was well developed and ended well.

Delightful Western Romance

Becoming a mail order bride appears to be the only solution to Prudence's increasingly

precarious present situation. She accepts an offer to become the wife of Austin, a man who is in danger of losing everything unless he marries. When Prudence is about to board the

train, an old man thrust a baby, along with a note in her arms and fled. Prudence has suddenly become responsible for her brother's baby. When she arrives at her destination, her intended is very unhappy about the child, but grudgingly accepts the situation. Adding to the enjoyment of the book, is the audible narration expertly done by C.J. McAllister. His mellow tones make each character quite distinct without exaggeration. I recommend this delightful book to all Western romance fans.

Sweet novella with a good, solid story

Would you listen to Minding Benji again? Why?

I wouldn't listen to Minding Benji again. It was a good one time novella, but I don't typically listen to or read books more than once unless they are absolutely fabulous-I'm talking Game of Thrones good. That isn't to say that this isn't a good novella though.

What did you like best about this story?

I was just a good, sweet novella that was enjoyable to listen to. There wasn't one particular thing that stuck out as the "best" part of the story. I suppose if I had to pick something, it would be the end, where everything falls into place as it should and everyone gets their happy ending.

Outstanding!!!!

I adored this book!!!! Absolutely addictive!!!! Definitely a MUST listen to!!!!!! A must have for all!!!!

Is it love?

Selwyn and Catheryn are from different social classes so they aren't suppose to fall in love. I really didn't like how he toyed with her feelings. Loved the time period and thought the author and narrator did a great job of switching between these two main characters. Thought the author did a great job of making me feel like I was there.

I enjoyed this story. Catheryn's real self comes through when she is faced with Selwyn's game. I thought she was a little haughty in the beginning but liked how her layers were exposed as the story went along. The growth of both kept me listening. I enjoying reading this author's stories.

A Change in Rules

This was a sweet story of love and faith in stepping up to do what is right. I loved the narrator, she did a great job in speaking to make believe it was in that era.I was given a copy for an honest review. I highly recommend this story.. Catherine finally found her love.

This story gives back the emotions of a young couple trying to establish their feelings for each other now that they are no longer children but young adults at a time in history when it was practicaly unheard of to break through class bounderies and decisions where made by the parents.

Terrific Time Travel story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to any of my friends who love a good time travel romance. The story was interesting, and different than other time travels I've read in the past. It was a fun story that kept getting more interesting as the story went on.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'd have to say Lita was my favorite character, maybe because it was told mostly from her point of view.

Have you listened to any of Jodi Bowersoxs other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first time listening to Jodi Bowersox as a narrator. I thought it was neat to hear the author read us her book, as you could tell how she wanted you to feel in different parts.

Great story!

What did you like best about this story?

I really like that the story was a sweet one. There wasn't any of the relationship back-and-forth, (you know the kind... misery chasing misery before finally getting to the working it all out at the end), it was about the growing relationship. There were some great characters, and I like that though there were some people you probably never want to be friends with, there's no real "evil" except for a nasty old lady with a bad attitude. It was also nice that there were other characters in the story, with stories of their own.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Stevie Puckett?

I am actually really surprised at all of the "gushing" reviews! I have listened to a lot of books and while this narrator wasn't the absolute worst, she definitely wasn't the best I've ever heard. At first I felt like I was listening to the story in slow-motion and had to speed it up. Once I found a speed that was tolerable, 1.25 I believe, it made it much better. I didn't dislike the narrators voice per se, but there are some narrators that are true story tellers and some that are just readers. Stevie was somewhere in the middle. Like the difference between a good movie and a cartoon. LOL. Hard to explain. I definitely would not seek her out again, but nor would I turn away if I saw her.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't really want to give anything away, but I really liked the part where Titus Penny came to Corus house. I didn't expect him to handle it the way he did, nor did I expect Jedwin to respond to the visit the way he did.

I didn't have high expectations as the author was totally new to me and I actually really enjoyed this book. There were a lot of good parts to it. Even though the narration wasn't my favorite, I looked for reasons to do household chores just because it gave me an opportunity to listen to the book. I would listen to other of the authors book if they were on sale, or in a 2 for 1 sale.

Two Lonely Hearts

I was pleasantly surprised that this book was a delight to listen to. It takes you on a journey from infatuation to friendship and from friendship to love. The characters seem so real with their quirkiness and flaws. The story progresses into a lovely story of small-town life of gossip & misunderstandings and a love story that features two lonely hearts who feel undeserving. It's a lovely story and worth a credit.

I loved the narration on this book. Each character's voice was unique which added to the enjoyment and ease of listening.

Steamy, Awesome, and super hot...

Wow! This was one really steamy romance story. The narrator is a gifted storyteller and did an exceptional job breathing life into the characters while Ms. Rothwell painted outstanding, detailed, visuals of the events of the story. The plot was definitely different from any I can think of, but done in a tastefully creative way. The sex scenes are so hot steam was coming off my poor kindle! I think it had a meltdown, so I'd suggest you read it or listen to the audible version first if you're considering letting your teenager read it.

Regency's Trading Places

Stephen always knew his mother was an accomplished courtesan, but never expected to become more than a simple clerk. This was an enjoyable prince and the pauper style story. Following along with Will and Stephen's journey to find love was such a treat. From the beginning, the real standout to me was the friendship between the brothers. Their bond was real and their conversations always funny. It tugged my heartstrings to read Stephen's search for ties to his family in the beginning.

LGBT romance in the victorian era

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

Annalee Stewart belongs to a prestigious family in England during the 1820s. But after his father lost everything on gambling and his posterior suicide, Annalee's life changes drastically. Her only option is gettinghired as a companion for a rich lady. She is recommended to take care of Lady Leonore Blackstone, a very fragile woman who lost had a miscarriage and is not able toget pregnant again. Annalee falls immediately in love with Leonore, and will try to find out what is wrong with her Lady's health.

I am not much for romance, but I was curious about how an LGBT romance in the XIX century would go. The books is beautifully written, and their characters are presented and described with all kind of rich details. I found interesting how daily life in the castle was, and found odd how much free time Annalee often had.

There is a third important woman in this story: Victoria, Leonore's sister in law. I think she is one of the most interesting characters in this story due to how different she is from the rest, and how she rejects many laws of society. She is also strong willed and intelligent.

I have to say that the end of the book was quite predictable, but I really hoped Henderson was going to surprise me. And she did, but not how I wanted. The first half of the book is compelling, having the listener wanting to know how these relationships will work out; but the second half is depressive and anticlimactic. We foresee what will happen and realize that Annelee will not to do enough to prevent it. I felt helpless seeing how Leonore, weak and without personality, let everyone decide about her, and Annelee, with a bit more judgement than Leonore, did nothing to help her. It was like seeing a disaster coming in slow motion: heartbreaking.

Surprising and at times shocking

I really did enjoy this one it has a plot that you really dont think about when you think of the West and strong young cowboys. I kept thinking wow could it be this and then talk myself out of it. I cant think of anything worse than planning to marry and having the man you decided on not be interested in you. Many things went through my head and it is pretty easy to work out. It really is an exciting read that really makes the listener think and contemplate over many issues. To say anymore about the plot would really give the whole story away. What I will say it I was surprised in more ways than one.

Ms. Kelly has fast become one of my favorite narrators she brings so much emotion to her voice. Her character voices were delightful from her male to her female ones. You always know who is talking and just what they are feeling. She gives such insight to her characters as they hold you spellbound giving such energy and passion as she keeps you entertained. You can really hear the disappointment, anger and the thrills as she takes you on a night of passion that is shocking but exciting. There are no repeating of words, no background noise and if any breaks were taken I could not tell. A very clean and clear listen that pulls you in as one womans heartbreaks when she finds it might not be so easy to have what she dreams of. Her performance is wonderful as she uses her tones to make you see the truth, feel the pain of one women and a man who really want the same things but not sure if they can have it.

Ms. Goss sure has out done herself with the story twisting her way right into your heart. I really doubt you can listen to this and not have your heart break for Amber. The war has not been her friend she has lost so much and is afraid she will never know what it feels like to be a mother, wife and hold her own child. To make her dreams come true she becomes a mail order bride only to find things are not as she has hoped. Two brother holding secrets but only one will love which will it be? I had mixed feeling with Charles and Garrett. Garrett is so cold that is until you see him and the words he gives his brother. Charles shows feeling but is so selfish that you really just want to shake him. Garrett is the night of shining armor but his deeds are many. Both will feel the shame and guilt of one night, one night when they should have known better. Many saying came into my thoughts as I listened to this. Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly. At first if you do not excide try try again. Youre so vain. My mama didnt raise no fool. Deceit.. fool me one shame on me fool me twice shame on me. It really is a good story that pulls you in trying to work out what each is trying to hide.

Had potential, but missed the mark...

I think one of the problems I had was that this was such a short book. I find that in shorter novels, there just isnt any depth of story and things speed along at a really unrealistically rapid pace. The writing was seemingly novice, which was a surprise since I see she has several books.

The story is about Emma who witnesses her father get murdered. The man that did it sent her away to live in a safe place and took care of her financially though she didnt know that. She comes back a couple years later to find out what had happened, only to find that the killer is the respected sheriff. He isnt a bad man, but I did NOT like that whole "you must behave or I will punish you" thing he had going on. I'm not a particular fan of dominance role playing, but respect that some people do. In this story, however, it was less role playing, and more a jerk who wants control in all things, and a weak woman with daddy issues allowing herself to be controlled. The interactions often lead to sex (the words that were chosen for the sex scenes made me gag... "Cunny" for the female genitalia... really?") but the dominance in sex was secondary to his dominance in life. Abusive even. Some people may like that, just not my cup of tea.

The narrator is very VERY new I think. His reading was lilting and stilted, and seemed untrained. There is definitely potential though, he had some really wonderful qualities, I just think he needs some more training. I think this is more blamed on the editors and the director though. Second chance at love for Rusty

When I found this book, and read the reviews, I looked forward to reading it with great anticipation. I usually love western historical romances, but this one didnât capture my attention. I did not feel any chemistry between Rachel and Rusty. The attraction between them lacks any fire, even when they give into their desire there just is not much passion. Now, itâs by far not the worst book Iâve ever read, but it is certainly not the best either. I found the story line a bit bland for my tastes. Too many things happen that do not ring true for me.

Even when they first meet, there is no spark, no excitement, except a bit of angst. The story starts out with Rachel Stevenâs nine year old son, Will, crashing into Rusty McIntyre when he rounds a corner in the general story and knocks over a display of thread. Rusty reprimands the boy and Rachel takes offense. Then to top it off, she says, âWait just a damn minute!â This totally took me out of the story. A woman in 1906 would not curse in front of anyone, and certainly not a stranger.

Now I understand this is a short novella, but there is no depth to the characters, especially Rachel. Evidently, she married young and lived to regret it. I gathered there was no spark between her and her late husband. In fact, I got the impression that the man bored her to death. Now she does not want to get married again. This is a weak reason and made me think of Rachel as a shallow person, so I did not become vested in seeing her achieve her goals.

However, I did like Rusty. He is somewhat of a gentleman to Rachel from the start, even though she does not treat him very nice. When he offers to help her when he finds her wagon stuck after a storm, she grudgingly accepts. Rusty takes her young son under his wing, and the boy grows to worship him, while she tries to limit their interaction, without good reason.

Rusty has a good reason for his lack of trust in women, since he caught his fiancée with another man, just weeks before their wedding. Now, years later, he finds out that she had his child, has died, and her parents do not want to raise the fourteen year old girl. They turn the girl over to him. Here Rachel does respond in a positive manner and lets Amelia stay with her, since she is antagonistic toward Rusty and does not want to have anything to do with him.

Nonetheless, the book is well-written and it is free of any grammatical errors. The pacing is steady and there is no sagging middle. I enjoyed the ending and I am glad they achieved their HEA.
