Who does not love a good pirate story! Where pirates raid ships and come across a beautiful lady. With a strong leading lady how could any pirate not fall for her, but this pirate is determined to stay single. Hopefully he wakes up in time. Great adventure and love story.

Very refreshing!

I am definitely a fan of Prudence! She wasn't just a damsel in distress. She new what she wanted and was not afraid to show it. Although, Jasper was at war with his feelings im glad the author let us know what was going on in his head. Narration was also enjoyable! Night before?

Ok, so the name is not exactly correct.... and.... there are some mixed up series of events (or of emotions and realizations) that a good editor should have caught.... and no one listened when I scolded them.... and maybe the narration wasn't quite comfortable.... but this was still good entertainment! I truly enjoy Debra Mullins, and liked the use of a curse driving the story.

I'd buy it again.

When was this really written?

I'm a Janet Mullany fan so giving this book only 2 stars makes me feel a bit unfaithful to her, but, really, it's not very good. Mullany excels at Regency romps likeThe Rules of GentilityandImproper Relations. These romps are witty and funny (sometimes LOL) and very entertaining.

This Phoenix story is, I believe, meant to be taken seriously. At least I didn't find anything funny in it, except for maybe strange-funny stuff. It struck me as being an old-school 80s or 90s HR with a jerk of a hero, coincidence and serendipity necessary for the plot to evolve, all at the same time straining the reader's patience and credulity. As a matter of fact, I suspect (but do not know) that this may have been one of Mullany's early unpublished attempts at writing an HR which she dug out and perhaps polished a bit for publication in 2012.

The main characters could have been interesting. The heroine is a pickpocket whose one-time sexual encounter with a man about to leave for the Napoleonic War results in a baby girl. She finds herself in desperate straits after giving birth and goes to leave the baby with its father (who's back from the War already, go figure). The man, conveniently enough, has never seen her face and does not recognize the woman who leaves the baby with him.

Then the heroine goes on to become the mistress of a wealthy, kind old gentleman and she learns manners and social deportment and gets a bit of an education from his library. When her protector dies, she's in financial troubles again and is blackmailed into impersonating another woman. This woman was a former almost-fiancee of the hero ex-soldier now earl and he, for who knows what reason (stupidity?), cannot tell that this is an impersonator, not the woman he had once proposed to and almost married.

Things just get more and more unrealistic and silly as the story goes on. There's attempted murder, abduction, lots of misunderstanding, etc. The writing is choppy and the plot does not flow well. The 6-year-old daughter is unnaturally mature and not at all cute and I couldn't even warm up to her. (Who doesn't love children, I ask.

Good read and great narration..

This was a cute story about Patience and her cat Ashes who went to Danby Castle and met and fell in love with Matt, the village doctor. I love books that the Duke of Danby is in.

The only thing I didnt like was the cover of the novella. The girl looked more like she was dressed for an old western instead of Regency.

If you dont care of insta-love then these novellas arent for you.

I did buy the audible for this story, for $1.99, a total waste of money I know, but I love Stevie Zimmerman. She does an awesome on all the voices and reads with such emotion.

PART 2 of a trilogy. Emotional

Loved this as much as the first!

Different Narrator, different storyline but still as wonderful as the previous book.

I couldn't understand "Why?" after listening to the previous book; why change the narrator? Book 1 was told from a female perspective, Book 2 from a male. Both as good in the narration, so please don't let that put you off reading book 2.

This is an emotional story ( I did cry once .... ok maybe every other chapter, I was to engrossed to count! ).

I don't like spoilers, so won't give any away!

I will say that this author has a wonderful way of writing and that I feel as if she may have lived before and heard these tales as a child while sat around a great fire, listening to a Clan Chief

This book is a challenging read, but well worth the time and effort.

In Nazi-occupied Finland during the Lapland War and the final years of WWII, 1944-45, the lives of a young Finnish girl and a Nazi officer intersect as this beautiful yet brutal story unfolds.

The Midwife is an outsider in her Finnish village, named Weird-Eye by the villagers who belittle and look down on her while at the same time benefitting from her skills as a midwife and healer. Johannes Angelhurst is a Nazi officer who is assigned to Weird-Eyeâs village as a journalist and photographer tasked with watching the villagers in order to report any spying and resistance activities taking place around him.

Johannes is re-assigned to the Titkova Nazi prison camp. Weird-Eye is given permission to go to the camp as a nurse/medical assistant in order to be with him. As the story unfolds, it comes to light what purpose the camp serves. Johannes is guilt-ridden about what he is ordered to do and seeks oblivion in a drug he has access to in the camp. Weird-Eye does her best to relieve the suffering around her, not knowing until late in the story what takes place in some of the forbidden areas of the camp. As the Naziâs withdraw from Finland destroying everything they leave behind, so many lives lay in ruin.

Kettuâs language is heartrending in the telling of this devastating story. At the same time, her beautiful poetic images of the arctic landscape make the cold splendor of the setting come to life.

The book has received critical acclaim and literary awards in the authorâs native Finland. Translation rights have recently been sold worldwide and is now available in English. I highly recommend this book even to those who have had their fill of WWII books. Kettu gives us a new look into WWII from the Finnish perspective of Nazi-occupied Finland.

Finland ar war

This is a story of people in Finland in WWII, under Nazi occupation, and weaves a tale of a midwife with a bad eye, who falls in love with a disturbed Nazi officer who has been assigned as a photographer, evidently because he didn't function well as a purveyer of atrocities . The account in the book is interesting, although the action is difficult to follow. This is an enjoyable if somewhat disturbing read.

Not for the faint of heart.

From the first few pages of this book (much of which I skipped) I was not sure I would even read it.

Excellent. And the truth is.....

In the beginning I came close to regretting my choice in this book.... but the magnificent Tristan Hunt is such a joy to listen to that I stuck with it long enough to enjoy it. I really did enjoy it. I think what was missing was the wagering, goading, teasing, troublemaking history of these four men.... as well as how out of character it was to use the blackmailing secret that could do such harm as a means to control the wager. Had I understood that in the beginning the entire tenor of the story is changed is a very positive way. I do not offer this opinion as a spoiler because it's not. It is more of a bonus tidbit that will get you past the point of wanting to turn it off or close it and walk away. The book is worth it!

CREDITWORTHY? Yes. (Except it might cost less than a credit would. I think I got it with the Kindle edition for a total of $5.)

Absolutely entertaining and romantic!!!

The hero for sure. He was a very interesting character and you wanted to learn more about him. The way he felt for the heroine was so sweet!

The is my first and won't be my last. He did an excellent job.

Sadie.. she was sort of a lost soul who was given a second chance to make something of herself.

What about Chaz Allens performance did you like?

Listening to Chaz was sort of like listening to Casey Kasem and the American Top 10.. but I got use to it.. He kept the story going.

No, I didn't have an extreme reaction, but I haven't listened to the whole series in order, so there were a few references I missed, but that's b/c I didn't read the 1st and 2nd, but, I believe these are stand alone books, and the things I missed, were only references. (so I got the other books)

A Completely Different Experience from the Book

What did you like best about The Fire? What did you like least?

I did not care for the style of narration. Felt more like I was being told a children's tale

Very different.

What three words best describe Chaz Allens performance?

I think Mr. Allen would make a great narrator of children's books. Mr. Allen has a very distinct rhythm to his narration. It rarely altered throughout the entire production.

This is the second Heldt story I have listened to. I enjoy the concept of time travel stories. This one had surprises that I liked. However, I think I'll save the others for my ebook.

The Fire

I enjoyed this book a lot.Chaz Allen gives a wonderful performance for each character.Visiting his grandfathers farmhouse, prior to selling it, a man finds much more than a diary taking him into the past.I was provided this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.

Heart-warning And Heart-breaking in One!

This is an amazing story, very well narrated. There is so much historical detail, so much that makes you ponder the choices and decisions that the characters are forced to make. The romance of the story is both heart-warming and wretched in one.

To be honest, I didn't expect to enjoy the book as much as I did, especially in the beginning.

Time to grow up

At first I thought I'd enjoy it, but rapidly lost interest. I'm not averse to intimacy in a romance, but this book was just full of crude language and preoccupation with 'pintles' from the very first page. It was like being in a locker room full of 12 year old boys. Seriously, grabbing your crotch and winking at your wife in front of the castle cook? It was a good story, but the crude juvenile humor rapidly got old. Someone needed to tell these men to grow up. I love witty banter between the main characters, but this was just disgusting. You could almost hear pre-teen boys sitting around giggling trying to out-gross each other with this dialogue. I ended up skimming to finish. I'm pretty mad that I wasted my Lending Library selection on this one.

Reclaimed

Filled with the assurance only a 16 year old has, Merry uses more than her feminine wiles to have her way with Thomas, the young knight whose eye she's caught. He is leaving for London the next day, to return in two weeks time. Unfortunately for them both, King Edward and his liege lord, Marcus, decide they must send him and the rest of the King's men away to protect the land. Five years later, Thomas returns to find a very different young woman, who is no longer the happy, teasing girl that caught his heart, but an angry, spiteful winch, who seems determined to do him physical harm.

Stella Alden weaves a tale filled w gallantry, love, intrigue, distrust, and deceit. The plot is fast paced, reminiscent of "The Princess Bride," and the main characters rich with all too human behavior and emotional frailty.

A fun read for someone whose nose is always in a book--it's fresh and , and very hard to put down. Enjoy.

Historical fiction

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres because the writer puts characters into real events that bring it to life. Merry handfasted with Thomas and then gave him a poppy solution that removed his memory of their sexual encounter. There's plenty of intrigue with Robert the Bruce, King Edward, angry Scots, and scheming Bishops. I'm amazed that anyone survived those dangerous times without sanitation, nasty vermin, and poor medical care.

If time travel is ever created that one period i won't try for!
