Nobody knew where it came from.
    Nobody knew why it came.
When an eight-foot-tall man made of stone appears in the middle of a busy city center one July afternoon, two-bit (and antisocial) reporter Andy Pointer assumes it's just a publicity stunt.
Indeed, so does everyone else...until the Stone Man begins to walk, heading silently through the wall of the nearest building, flattening it, and killing several people inside as a result.
As efforts by the local police - and soon the government - to halt the Stone Man's inexorable progress prove futile, only three questions are on the watching world's lips:
Where has it come from, where is it going, and what does it want?
Andy is determined to be the first person to answer those questions; after all, he was there when it arrived. Surely the headaches and visions he's experiencing are proof of a mental connection to the Stone Man. Clearly his dreams of champagne and notoriety are all about to be fulfilled once he uncovers the truth...and the scoop of a lifetime.
In a pursuit that carries him the length of the country and the breadth of the Atlantic, Andy uncovers the jagged pieces of an increasingly terrifying puzzle. As the number of lives lost in the wake of the Stone Man reaches grim figures, the terrible results of Andy's blind determination force him to confront the savagery of human nature.
When irresistible forces aren't met by immovable objects, how far is too far? Andy must discover the answer - and find out who he really is - in the shadow of the Stone Man.

Totally Original Story of Horror and Courage
It seems most people start out reading Luke Smitherd's books with "The Stone Man". For some reason, I read all the other ones first and only just finished this. I just have to ask myself, "What took you so long, idiot?" I think I was putting off reading it because I wanted one last book to look forward to. This seems to be the most popular of this author's books, and I guess I just had to be different.
    Anyway...
This is one of the best books I have ever read.
It's one of those books where your hands are shaking as you read it and sometimes you notice you haven't taken a breath in a while. Make sure you start listening to it with plenty of time to spare because you will not want to stop once you start. It is nearly impossible to believe this was the first book written by this author because it is SO good, SO well-written, and just perfect. Now I'm gushing and must stop.
The basic outline of the story is that a stone man (or creature or object) appears in England and wreaks havoc throughout the country. It can't be stopped by any means known to humans and its purpose for being there is not known. As you get further into the book and some of the implications of the stone man being there do become evident, it becomes more real and scary. That's all I'm going to say about it. You just have to read it to appreciate it.
The characters are very well-developed. The two main characters are not perfect.

    Opening the X-Files...
Meet Mulder and Scully, FBI - the agency maverick and the female agent assigned to keep him in line.
Their job is to investigate the eeriest unsolved mysteries in modern America, from pyro-psychics to death row demonics, from rampaging Sasquatches to alien invasions. These are the cases the Bureau wants handled quietly but quickly, before the public finds out what's really out there...and panics - the cases filed under "X".
    Members Reviews:
    Not a bad start
The story was okay. I felt the characterizations of Mulder and Scully were mostly on-point, with a few off moments, but nothing particularly jarring. It read like a typical filler episode of The X-Files, nothing special, but enough to hold my interest. No major complaints about narration, it was a decent enough job. As is typical with books about TV shows, you'll have to use your imagination to believe it's Mulder and Scully speaking.
    Goblins
It's an X-Files book. I'm pre-disposed to love it. I read it before, many years ago, and enjoyed both reads. Typical storyline...recognizable characters...fun exploits.
    Full cast would have helped!
Love the x-files, read this back in the day. The book is an over-described, average story. If it were acted out by a full cast of the original actors, it would be fair. Narrated, it is hard to get through.
    About average
The premise of the book starts out like an x-file but quickly loses the "x-file" feel. Mixed with worthless extra characters and a few missteps in the characterization of Mulder and Scully only gives the book an "okay" rating. The performance wasn't terrible but nothing to write home about either.
    Exciting plot, but...
it is a good plot, intricately woven throughout the story. I think the storytelling is a little difficult to follow though, compared to the other books in the series.
The depictions of Mulder and Scully are off. Mulder is the silent veteran agent who knows best and scolds other agents. Character traits are described, which there are no basis for in the tv-series. all in all it did not make me feel nostalgic or make me smile with recognition of references.

    Watch the show instead.
One of the rare instances where the show did it far better than the book. Don't bother unless you're a pre-teen girl looking for a poorly written book about love stricken teenagers.
wow, where is the next book!
Love the story but I feel like we need 2 more books. The characters are the settings were amazing! thank you
    Ok. Not great.
I've enjoyed these books but the audio on this felt rushed. There were several mistake.
    Disappointing
Most of the time you hear " The movie/tv show doesn't follow the books at all" and it's a bad thing. I'm very happy that the tv show doesn't follow the books. The show is Great! The books are horribly disappointing.

    Got sucked in...
When I read the first Remaining book, I almost stopped there. It was bleak and gritty and didn't seem like there was ever going to be any sunshine , ever... But something about the extreme bleakness, the way the zombie apocalypse wore down the protagonist, Lee, how the other humans interacted, that felt more real than most of the genre, and I've read a LOT of zombie books, i'm slightly embarrassed to say. This is no Mark Tufo reluctant hero who saves the ones he loves story, this is a story of loss, betrayal, survival, politics, and of course, zombies....
This series is great even though zombies
I am burnt out on zombie tales. It is not that I don't like them, but there are just so many everywhere. I started this series after a recommendation, and I thought it was a post apocalyptic story, which it is, but did not know the cause of the apocalypse was the dreaded zombies. So I rolled my eyes expecting the same story under different covers, but it surprised me.
While this story is not high literature it is fun. The characters are done well enough that you care for them, and the zombies are used to move the human interaction and plot along. The zombies are used sparingly. It also gives you a plausible feel of how government and military evolve after a situation like this.
As for this particular book? It was good. It felt so very short, but it was over 14 hours in length so I think that describes the pace of the story.
I am not a big fan of the cliffhanger serial. I want my story to be fully complete. There can still be a great deal to do in the author's universe without resorting to the old cliffhanger serial technique, but I guess if it keeps bringing the readers in and keeps the series going I don't mind that much.
    Super narration.
    Where's the story?
After reading the previous books in this series, I started this ine several days ago. I'm now nearly 4 hours into it and nothing has happened!!! I give up. Uncle.
The series began with such promise but now appears to be completely devoid of ideas and just relentlessly grinds and whines over nothing.
    Sadly, I wasted a credit.
I will be waiting impatiently for the final book..
We D.J. make dang sure all his readers will buy the 6th and final book. The story was another brilliant continuation the remaining series. Although the cliffhanger at the end was just mean lol.
    I love this series
What made the experience of listening to The Remaining: Allegiance the most enjoyable?
The narrative of this series is awesome. The voices are all distinct and easy to recognize.
What did you like best about this story?
    Lee Harding enough said!
Have you listened to any of Christian Rummels other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love listening to this entire series. I can't think of any other narrator who could do this book as good as Christian Rummel.

Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? The hunt for the dreamwalker is on.
    Members Reviews:
    Series maturing nicely!
I admit to have being undecided following the first book in the series, "The Bone Season." Though the alternate-historical world-building had its compelling aspects, I found the Rephaim a bit too gothic. That's still the case, but it doesn't matter, because like all good stories, this is now clearly a human drama, with the Rephaim merely part of the scenery. The alternate history is more vivid and plausible than ever, despite elements both counterfactual and supernatural; this London is eerily familiar.
A word needs to be said about the narrator, Alana Kerr. Hers is clearly the voice of protagonist Paige, Irish accent, weary compassion, and all. She does not have a huge expressive range, and sometimes distinguishing character voices can be tricky in dialogue. However, there is one moment in this narration that makes up for all the defects. Usually narrators simply "punt" when confronted with verse the reader is supposed to imagine as sung; they either just read the verse, or they improvise embarrassing half-melodies. Not so Ms. Kerr. I won't say any more about the scene here, except that it was deeply moving, demonstrating extraordinary musical and affective sensibility.
I liked it as well as the The Bone Season
I don't love this series. There is still way too much going on to fully follow all the threads and all the characters. I liked the narrator better this time around. Maybe I have just gotten used to her. I will probably listen to the next book when it comes out, but I really need the author to start giving a better indication of where the story is going.
    WOW!!!
It took me awhile to get caught up in the bone season but when I did it really sucked me in! In this the second installment The Mime Order I was pulled in from the start. Excellent story great characters vivid details! The narrator is fantastic! Loved getting to learn more about the syndicate and its separate cohorts! Can't wait to see just how much more Paige can grow and excel through the rest of the series. Book 3 won't come soon enough!!!
    I don't want to wait!
I really enjoyed this listen. Paige is young, and she feels young. But she doesn't bug me because her struggles to figure things out don't feel contrived. (I generally hate when the reader knows what is happening far before the character.). The books build on some established ground, but they feel fresh and new.
As with Bone Season, the story moves along fairly slowly.

    Riveting
This is book twelve in the frontier Saga series. It is best to read this series in order.
At the end of the last book, the Aurora and the Celestia were battling the Jung Battle Platform when the Corinairi Falcons arrived to help. Earth is saved but in terrible shape. The Ghatazhak are needed to keep law and order on the planet.
The ships need to be fixed up and resupplied. Captain Nathan Scott wants to take the battle to the Jung but the Jung still are after the Earth. Nathan suspects he has a Jung spy aboard the ship. Prince Casimir is fighting with his parliament to provide help to Nathan and Humanitarian aid to Earth. Nathan discovers there is a Jung Battle Platform on the way to Earth. You will never believe what the Corinairi are able to achieve with the jump drive. As in the other books there is lots of action, we not only have space battles but the Ghatazhak are engaged on the Earth. This book is one of the few that does not end in a cliff hanger.
The book is well written and the author continues to develop the characters with each book. This is a super great military sci-fi space opera.
Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the series.
    The Series was great! But...
I think Ryk Brown's Frontiers Saga was well written and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer superbly; however, I have say that the fact it takes 12 credits puts it a very high price. Quite often, a single episode spanned multiple "books" was disappointing. An example was "Celestial CV-02", needed to include almost half of the next episode "Resistance".
If you are ready to spend well over $100 to listen to a good Saga, then I recommend this one as a great "Read".
    This Story Delivers!
The series continues to get better and better. Book 12 stands as one of my favorite of the series as we get fantastic space battles and character development that may have been missing from earlier novels. Ryk Brown is growing in both imagination and prose!
    Another great book
Great book! This is a fantastic addition to this series. Again Mr. Brown showing his ability to make the mundane seem real and adventurous. The character growth is superb. He really knows how to get a hold of your emotions and make you care for these characters and their plight. I highly recommend this if you are reading or listening to this series.
    Author needs thesaurus
Robust, red-orange ball, and blue white.
The story is good even though author redundancy uses the same phrases and an editor would toss out a lot of useless words or overused words.
I would like more story and less descriptive battles.

You will never read Denny Younger's name in any history book, will never know what he's done. But even if you did, you'd never believe it. The world as you know it wouldn't be the same without him. Denny was born into one of the lowest rungs of society, but his bleak fortunes abruptly change when the mysterious Upjohn Institute recruits him to be a Rewinder, a verifier of personal histories. The job at first sounds like it involves researching old books and records, but Denny soon learns it's far from it. A Rewinder's job is to observe history. In person. Embracing his new life with enthusiasm, Denny witnesses things he could never even imagine before. But as exciting a life as this is, there are dangers, too. For even the smallest error can have consequences. Life-altering consequences. Time, after all, is merely a reference point.

"Rewinder has it all - plot, characters, settings, reversals, and a couple of scenes that could rank among the best in Orphan Black." - (Timothy Hallinan, author of the Poke Rafferty thrillers and the Junior Bender mysteries)
    Members Reviews:
Poul Anderson's Time Patrol meets Jumper
Brett Battles seems to enjoy writing Thrillers, no matter the subgenre. In his latest standalone thriller, Rewinder, Battles gives time travel a go with solid results. Rewinder reads like a cross between Poul Anderson's Time Patrol stories, and Steven Jay Gould's Jumper series. It's not a particularly groundbreaking entry into the fray of time travel adventure, in fact, if anything, Battles quickly infuses the story with the feel of a pair of comfortable jeans. Instead of trying to create some clever new way to spin the genre, he puts his own spin onto time honored tropes. Like Jumper, Rewinder can work equally well as a Young Adult or Adult novel. While Battles main character Denny Younger is, well, younger, he doesn't instantly fall into the character trapping of many young adult protagonist. Battles offers some interesting sociological insights, yet does it as a plot point, where his goal isn't social commentary but just telling a damn good story. Battles creates a fast paced, exciting tale, with plenty of twists, that fans of old school time travel adventure novels will find perfect for an afternoon reading.
Narrating is more than just having a pleasant voice, and the ability to do character voices. A good narrator finds the right feel for a novel, and pushes the narrative in the right direction. Vikas Adams gives a strong textured performance, with a crisp reading that gives homage to the pulp nature of the tale. I have always admired Adams ability to handle both adult and children characters smoothly, something that isn't really easy to do. I like that Adams gave Denny a youthful feel, yet still acknowledged that he was an adult doing an adult job. He captures the right blend of coming of age naivete, with a hardened edge of young man who grew up in the fringes of his society. Rewinder isn't going to blow your mind, or have you rethink everything you knew about time travel, instead it will give you 8 hours of solid entertainment.
    DO GOOD
This is my second book by Battles. While this was different, both books hit the ground running. I love a writer who does not waste time getting you into the story.

Planted Reviews - be careful with your purchase...
I have a weakness for prepper & disaster books and was very aware this series was coming out in the near future and planned on picking up the first one right away, and all of them if they were good. I was surprised how quickly the reviews for this series appeared... and was delighted everyone liked it.
My friends, most of these reviewers only own one audiobook and have only done one review... I know because after I forced myself to listen to the entire book... I went back to see who the idiots were that gave the book a 5 star award.
I don't expect the writing to be amazing in this genre, but I would at least like to learn something or a creative slant. This is just a tangential, unedited, repetitive, boring, semi-autobiographical, plot less, self-important, extremist political rant... by a prepper podcaster with a following... who I honestly think means well.
I wanted to like it, wanted to find the good in it and kept thinking... it will get better anytime now. But it didn't happen. There is no violence, swearing or sex in this book, just a little pissing off the porch and repetitive gun purchases. No incredible information either, though... sorry. And the writing... is just wrong, you will know what every character in the book is thinking, jumping from head to head to head in the same short sentence.
The narrator wasn't bad in other books I've listened to... but the material he is reading combined with the poor flow of sentences... makes him sound slow and the listen painful.
Watch closely, I am about to have major not helpful votes attached to my review.
Great book, with a different approach.
Not what I was expecting. Great book with a totally different approach to a genre I enjoy. Probably the best character development I've come across so far.
    Instant Prepper Classic
This is the creme de la creme of the Prepper Genre. Tate has imaginative and real characters and shows well the life of an average prepper. I can't wait to read the next book.
Kevin Pierce is always the best!!
I have follows Kevin through every teacher book and literally search by narrator now. This series is long 10 books currently. Not sure if it will be more in time as this is book one. I've very much enjoyed it though. 12 hour day for me with lots of driving so listened to it happily all day non stop. Already downloaded book 2 and 3!!
As a prepper I enjoyed this book
I wished we could all have a setup as perfect as the character in the book.

Very good, except for one narrator.
Where does Yesterday's Gone: Season 2 rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The lower end. But that's not terrible as I feel like i have listened to a lot of truly excellent books.
Would you recommend Yesterday's Gone: Season 2 to your friends? Why or why not?
Maybe. But only because the character Boricio.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
This question strikes at the heart of why I will not continue the series. Whichever narrator is reading the "Luca" chapters (the story is broken down into POV chapters) is just awful. Luca is an 8 year old boy and I guess the narrator is trying to sound 8. He does not do a good job of it. I'd have no problem if he gave the character of Luca a baby-ish voice and persona when he speaks, but to carry it over for an entire chapter is a bad choice, in my opinion.Ray Chase crushes it as Boricio, though. That almost makes up for it.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    Not really.

    Please sort out the narration!
What did you love best about Yesterday's Gone: Season 2?
The story is great and engaging. Ray Chase (doing Boricio) is AMAZING and I'm definitely going to search for more books read by him. R.C Bray delivers an excellent performance as well. My favorite narrators.
What did you like best about this story?
    I can't guess what's going to happen.
Did the narrators do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I can't blame the narrators. Some are amazing while the others are OK. What I did really HATE was the fact that (in order to save money?) some characters are played by different narrators. You get used to Boricio being narrated by Ray Chase when all of a sudden, when he meets Luca, Maxwell Glick who's doing Loca is also doing Boricio. He even pronounces the name Boricio differently. The two narrators are so different (Chase sounds like a hardass pervert criminal, while Maxwell sounds like a kid) that it totally ruined the experience for me. Can't you have both narrators together for such scenes?, common! I'd pay double to get the book read right.
    Any additional comments?
Sort out the narration. Chase should do Boricio - ALWAYS. Bray should do Brent - ALWAYS.

    Publisher's Summary:
Tucked away in a high-tech Tactical Operations Center, inside an isolated safehouse in the Horn of Africa, sits Agency analyst Zack Altringham. He is Kenyan-born, Princeton-educated, badly burnt-out - and condemned by his language and cultural skills to a lifetime of fighting America's shadow counter-terror wars. But when another mystery epidemic breaks out, terrifyingly quickly it reaches a tipping point and chaos descends - and Zack and his team (including two former Team Six SEALs) are trapped between the millstones of the sick and the dying on one side, and heavily armed militias on the other. Soon their "safe" house is in flames, and their only remaining option is to get in their up-armored SUV and try to escape the imploding gravity well of the city, to the safety of the American military base in Djibouti. But by then, will there be anywhere safe left on Earth to escape to?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
EASILY. This is by far the best I have listened to yet. I have said this before, but all those books were before this masterpiece. If you had the opportunity to experience stories like Day by Day Armageddon and thought it was a great listen, I guarantee you will absolutely enjoy this lead into what I'm sure will be an OUTSTANDING series. Very nicely done all around and easily deserving of all five stars and any phrase you can think of to express excellence!!
What did you like best about this story?
Story line, narration, terminology (sounded like the author knows what he is talking about), character development, and story flow.
What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Everything your looking for in an audible experience.
Who was the most memorable character of Arisen, Book 0.5 and why?
    Every one, perfectly done.

I'm counting down the minutes until my pre-order is downloaded, I can't wait!
Maybe better to read this after books 1-3?
I had already read the omnibus collection of books 1-3 but it turns out it doesn't really matter if you read this story afterwards because it may be more fun to not reveal the origins of the apocalypse too early. The story also ties in well with things towards the end of book 3. Hopefully the storyline in this book will converge with the others in book 4.
I always feel that the start of the apocalypse is the most interesting of any series, how the zombies take over the world. The story is out of the eyes of Zach who, although he is well trained, he is really still just a civilian. Because of that, it is easier to identify with him than the super hero like tier-1 operatives who are assigned to protect him. And protect him they do. Again and again.
Briefly, the the story is they that they have to flee on the highway and get to their main base and being in a foreign country, they can't trust anyone and everyone is shooting at them. Or biting. Story is interesting all the way through and maybe the only thing lacking is a female character and anyone hint of romance or family whatsoever. Just bromance in this one.
Narration by R.C Bray is amazingly good as usual.
Slow start, but SO worth sticking with!!
Have you listened to any of R. C. Brays other performances before? How does this one compare?
R.C. Bray is worth the price of admission alone.
