    ...Just no
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
A plot / story arc would be great!
Has Shadows of the Gods turned you off from other books in this genre?
    No
Have you listened to any of Jay Snyders other performances before? How does this one compare?
I cant compare any one performance os Jay Snyder with any other. They seem to be custom crafted to the story. Jay is a fantastic performer.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    disappointment.
    Any additional comments?
This story can only be described as 1 part high verbosity monologue, 2 parts battle porn, and the tiniest smidgen of a plot.
I have read and enjoyed other Jay Allan stories, but I was very disappointed in this one.
The narration, however, was awesome. Kudos to Jay Snyder for breathing life into this story.
The further they go, the more answers they find
Shadow of the Gods is Jay Allan's 2nd installment of the Crimson Worlds Refugee series. The armada, still cut off form Earth, continues to move deeper into First Imperium space and begin to find evidence of old battles that occurred on settled planets. An attempt to grow food, allows for exploration of alien ruins which reveals some answers to what happened to the First Imperium, the origin of the Regent, and even humanity's existence. With new found resolve, along with some epic battles, the slowly dwindling force finally limps off for some bit of respite.
The sci-fi elements remain largely in the realm of physics with FTL capability, energy weapons, and military robots. DNA tinkering plays prominently for why everything is the way it is. Also unfolding is a pure, diabolically evil artificial intelligence that is not only unlikely to stop, but still is intent on Earth's eventual destruction. The science geek and Mark Harman, both play pivotal roles.
The narration is well done with an excellent range of voices of both genders.
    A Gem in Disguise
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Abolutely! I purchased book 1 on sale through audible, and though it had good reviews, I have been disappointed before.

    Great story
This was a great follow up to the previous title, my one and only complaint would be the lack of emotion by the reader, although with some characters like the Mage King, it works well.
    real good book
Its only let down was that it got predictable furing the last third of book.
Another Masterful Installment to this Series
This second book continues a few years following Damien's starship Blue Jay's exploits, just after he completed his personal education and further training by the mage-king of Mars. He has been promoted to an Envoy rank and is set off on another mission under the tutelage of Alaura Stealey, the Hand of Mars. The mission is to investigate and protect Ardennes from terrorist elements that are wrecking havoc on the government and citizens of the planet.
It will come to no surprise that it soon becomes obvious that things are not as straightforward as the Protectorate had been led to believe and both the Hand of Mars and Damien have their work cut out for them as they encounter multiple sources of subterfuge from a number of player elements in their attempt to sort out where all the fault lines exist.
While the writing continues with the fine blend of backstory and action, a special note of appreciation goes to the narrator for making the story unfold in an entertaining fashion.
Without being specific, I was saddened to find that one of the more interesting characters from Book 1 exits from this series. I would have enjoyed having that character continue on. Perhaps Glynn may decide to write another series that focuses on this person's expanded story.
    {Light spoiler follows}
The only area where I was dismayed was where the villain turns out to be capitalist nut job who was every bit the robber baron but on a planetary scale. As my mind's eye ruminates upon Earth history, most of the large scale inhumane atrocities have come not from capitalists but from religious or secular ideologue regimes. Even so, that was only a wee bit of disappointment.
    Very good
Very good book, I did not want it to end. I can't wait for part 3.
it was ok. a little slow
this story didn't capture me like the first. it was very slow to start but didn't really pickup much after.

    The Search for Erik Cain...
The Superpowers of Earth have fought their final war, leaving Earth a devastated ruin, populated only by scattered groups of survivors living in primitive squalor. Out in space, however, humanity moves forward, and the former colonies of Earth's dead nations are now free from the yoke of the despotic governments that had long ruled over them. For many, it is their first taste of liberty. But a thousand free worlds, varying enormously in wealth and power, cannot long exist in peace, and soon they begin to fight, to seek to bend their neighbors to their wills.
Darius Cain is the commander of the Black Eagles, the most feared and renowned of all the mercenary companies that fight the colonies' wars. His veteran warriors have fought dozens of battles, and they have never met their equals. The wealthiest colonies compete to hire the Eagles, for contracting with Cain's warriors is the surest guarantee of victory in any dispute. But there is another power, one whose very existence has been the most closely guarded secret in human history. The Triumvirate. For decades it has operated in the shadows, interfering secretly in the affairs of the former colonies while steadily building an invincible war machine. But the Triumvirate has come to fear the Black Eagles, and the decision has been made. Darius Cain's private army must be destroyed utterly before the final invasion of human space can begin.
A message reaches the Black Eagles' base, with evidence that the father he'd thought long dead might still be alive, a captive of the shadowy enemy, held on a planet called Eldaron. Darius Cain is skeptical, a man slow to believe what he is told without incontrovertible proof. But Cain didn't build the greatest military force in human space by being cautious or timid...and even the slightest chance his father is alive compels his course of action.

    My Thoughts

    Love this story.
    Couldn't stop listening at times.
The narrator was great. He did a good job with the characters. He bought them to life for me.
I really hope book 3 is like book 2.
Can't wait to read and listen to the next chapter of this story and it's characters.
    Best ever
I love anything and everything Crimson Worlds. Great book great audio performance. Keep them coming@Jay Allan
    One of my relistens
I don't love all of the never-ending books in these series spin-off but I have really enjoyed the Crimson World Successors books so far (all 2!) Why the Blood series and so slow with continuing anything with this? I find the author scattered and over-extended with all his ideas for stories.
Give me more of Crimson Worlds and less knock off North - South Space Wars!
A gripping story that leaves me wanting more..
At first it seemed that the story pace was going to be of concern, however, it was required to give you the depth of the individual groups and their intentions. In this second book the pace quickens and now I am hooked and can't wait to to see what is in next!
    Can't wait
i can't wait for the next installments of successors an exiles. this stuff is great. what do i do while i wait?

    Not a good ending story
I loved the other books in the series, but this one seemed uninspired and monotonous. I had to push myself to finish it, hoping that it would get better. It didn't!
    Did not see that coming
This story is a wild rollercoaster of emotion and will leave you planning how you'd fight against super intelligence over your morning coffee.
I love this series. I've followed the world's development of AI with interest since I was a child but there is exceedingly little science fiction exploring the dangers of AI at the level that the Singularity series does. While not all of the technology or storyline seem realistic to me the vast majority of concepts are based on real (and often current) research and technology.
A must read for anyone talking about the Singularity and AI safety.
I think a Vol. 5 is in order!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Turing Exception to be better than the print version?
    What's print?
What other book might you compare The Turing Exception to and why?
There are many books about Augmented reality and A.I. these days but this one is unique. I felt like this one was more of a screenplay for some reason.
    Which scene was your favorite?
when Cat is inside here friends VR world. I think its how most people would choose to use such tech which speaks volumes and has a deeper meaning.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This book was less moving then every other in the series. That's why I feel there needs to be a 5th.
    Any additional comments?
Please come out with another in this series. It's too good to end this way.
good end to a good series
well written/read good conclusion to the series. could have done more for the ending though
A fun story with some clever twists
I binge listened to this one. Well done! Very entertaining. I hope there's a book 5 coming.

    Book 2 of a series
Very well and written and narrated. However, this is the second book of a series and I didn't know that when I listened. The book refers to previous events from the first book that takes one out of the story. The protagonist also begins the story with a good knowledge of time travel and relationships formed in the first book. Only the second book is available on Audible
this wasn't a good book, it was an awesome one
let me explain you why is this book in my opinion "awesome"
-it exploits time travel in a brilliant, intelligent and interesting way.
-it explains everything (theories, bases, places, situations, feelings) in a perfectly understandable way, as well as subtle.
-it makes a mix of adventure / science fiction / love / scary / fast phased story
-it makes it impossible to stop reading / listening to the story
-it makes every situation and every achievement real or possible to happen
-it hides a few in between the lines jokes that will definitely make you laugh
-it creates realistic and complex places, well detailed and easily imaginable
    -characters are well built
-even dough this is the second book, its perfectly understandable and enjoyable without reading the first book
-most of the futuristic inventions that appear in this book are actually projects being developed nowadays
-the principal characters are mostly in their twentysomthigs but this definitely doesn't mean it can be enjoyed by a younger older audience.
-it will leave you wanting for more
-it concludes the story completely, but beautifully connects with the next book
3rd book is coming out in a few months or it has already out, depending on when you read this, so you won't have to wait long to know what happens next
hope this helps, and hope you buy this book, we need more authors as great as Nathan Van Coops
    Started slow
I didn't think I was going to be able to get into this, but by the last third, I was sitting in the driveway not wanting to turn it off. Recommended.
I didn't want this book to end!
    Any additional comments?
"Nahtan Van Coops, I hope you can keep cranking them out as fast as I can keep devouring them," said me to this author in my mind about 50 times while I was listening to this book.
I just love a book that starts without any need for tortured and belabored backstory.

One of the best in the series
The author broke some new ground on this one for Omega Force. He was able to take the existing formula and bring himself out of his comfort zone, resulting in one of the best additions to the series yet.
    better and better
Each book seems to get better than the last, in my opinion. I really enjoy the crew interaction/dynamic. The witty banter continues to improve with each book. I hope this trend continues. very enjoyable.
    Very good read
I love this series, and I'm speed listening through it my warning is how addictive this series can be
great overall. good story, fantastic performance.
possibly my personal favourite of dalzelles work. good action with great banter between interesting characters wrapped in an interesting story.

    Members Reviews:
    Bummer!
I did not like this book! Jason, the leader, often throws temper tantrums, acts like a dictator to his crew, fails to listen to their advice, almost gets everyone killed, and to top it off, the book becomes a romance novel!
    Main character too moody
Main character was like a middy teenager at times. Hope this doesn't continue throughout the series.
the author dropped the ball on this one!
the story had glimpses of goodness but the main character turned into a major ass old dumbass. I think I'm going to have to stop the series at this point. it doesn't look as if the main character is learning from his mistakes. he takes no responsibility for his actions. and the crew doesn't seem to take him to task for that
    Burke Gets Whipped?
I really wanted to give this book a great review, but the interactions with the girlfriend are far too contrived and one-dimensional to be real. Overall, the impression one gets from the interactions between the two is of a couple of teenagers attempting to get along, where the girl is very domineering, and the boys simply submits to everything she does. This element for the book caused me to have to stop listening to it several times as my brain started screaming "OMFG! How was this guy a ship captain?!" or, "There is no way this guy survived boot camp, let alone PJ training!"
I knocked a few points off the performance rating because the voice characterization shifts a little over the course of the book. There are sometimes when I can't tell who is speaking without them being named. This is it marked departure from the previous book.
Overall, an okay story that might not be missed in the series if you skip it. Moving on to the next book...
First two were great, returning this mess for a refund.
The main character loses about 40 IQ points, makes unbelievably stupid decisions and everyone simply goes along. Was this a high school writing project for a ghost writer? It gets so ridiculous that at one point Jason and Crusher spot evidence of their deadly adversary being nearby and rather than disable his empty ship or stake it out, decide to go searching for him without backup, a plan, and entirely forget to bring weapons. Seriously? Crusher brings a knife to a gun fight. As a reader I grow to have contempt for the plot holes. Can you imagine a Navy Seal team ready to deploy to Iraq when the girlfriend of one decides she wants to come along and the other seals just giggle and go along? That's the level this has fallen to. After loving the first two I'm returning this mess after only an hour.

    Omega Force is back!
After the daring rescue of a political dissident, Omega Force is contracted to investigate a rash of violent attacks on civilian shipping lanes within a group of star systems known as the Concordian Cluster. It seems a simple enough job with a huge payday at the end, and it's exactly what the ragtag group of mercenaries needs in order to keep their ship flying and to stay one step ahead of those hunting them.
However, the further they delve into the seedy underworld of the Cluster, the more they realize they may be in over their heads. With innocent lives hanging in the balance, Captain Burke and his crew begin a desperate race to uncover who is responsible for these attacks, and why, before their ultimate goal can be realized.
Soldiers of Fortune is the follow up to the popular novel Omega Rising and the second book in the Omega Force series. It continues the adventures of Jason Burke, a lone human in space who has linked up with five other aliens to try their luck as hired guns. Their mandate: to help those who don't have the means to help themselves and never accept a job that would compromise the honor code they live by.
    Members Reviews:
Look at who's writing is getting older and better!!
When I listened to Omega Rising last October I loved the book! It was a good concept with lotsa action and fully rounded characters and you could tell this was going to be a great series! One year later when Audible finally presented the next 6 in the series, we were proved right! Soldiers of Fortune seamlessly continues where Rising stopped And there's a little more sass and confidence in the characters each of which are a treasure in themselves. And the action, the mystery, the skull-
duggery, the humor, keep you interested from chapter one. Warning: I do not recommend this book to those listeners who are compelled to make the sandwich run, check their voice mail, use the facilities during the book. You'll miss something good.... Joshua and Paul keep doing what you're doing! You're going to join the Dynamic Duos of Sci Fi!
Moves along lacking any motivating purpose
The writing is okay but the story lacks a sense of real purpose. The crew sees itself as a space-age Magnificent 6, without much backstory to illicit any interest toward any of them. A lone bunch of guys whose entire reason for living is to help save those who are being stepped on by others as they hop around the galaxy getting jobs from altruistic rich benefactors. Even the primary protagonist's history, of what little exists, is that he was a non-fighting ex-spec-ops guy who pines from the loss of an estranged blond girlfriend standing next to a Camaro.
The narrator has a decent dynamic range in articulating the different alien and female voices but his recital comes off rather mild and matter-of-factly.
I'll not be continuing this series.
    Crushed it
Who was your favorite character and why?
Crusher and Lucky. We get to know them both a little more.
Have you listened to any of Paul Heitschs other performances before? How does this one compare?
Paul always brings me into the world. Great job Paul.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    I did.
    Any additional comments?
This story was a great second installment to the series. Just as engaging as the first. I'm off to the next. I think this series so far is freakin' awesome.

What did you like best about The Purge of Babylon Series Box Set: Books 1-3? What did you like least?
This is an interesting story with good character development but is also annoyingly discordant. It is fairly obvious that the author has no first hand experience with firearms and quite often has operation, effect, range, and accuracy wildly wrong. At times it almost reads as inaccurate anti-gun propaganda.
    Great Book!
I almost passed on this book because of bad reviews. They're wrong it's great entertainment. Give this series a chance, its an exciting story.
    Loved it!
This was just perfect apocalyptic set of books for me. The story is very interesting and very well written. Loved it!

An amazing ending to this great series.
The final book in The Remaining series delivers non-stop action and thrills. If youre looking for zombie action which will keep you on the edge of your seat this book is right up your alley. Extinction is well written and well thought out. The book brings the story to a fitting end and while it doesnt tie up every single loose thread it wraps up enough for you to let it go, while allowing the author to pick it up at some point in the future should he wish to do so. I cant say enough about how much I enjoyed the series and this book.
Mr. Rummel brings this series to life. His narration, voices and pacing are just what you would want in this type of book. He really adds to the enjoyment.
    Mission Accomplished
This final book in The Remaining Saga is excellent! Action packed, and brings the story to a good end. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see a sequel series in a few years where we see what happens after...
    Good series
I recommend the whole series. It is well thought out and very well written. It grabbed my attention and I couldn't wait for the next book.
    What comes next?
I'd love to see another addition to this story line. Fighting to reunite the two halves of America while taking down president Briggs tyrannical regime. All the while fighting off the more evolved hunters. Will there be more scientific advances on the infected? Will the continue to evolve? So many places for Captain Lee Hardin and his battle hardened warriors to take this story. We're not done yet!!!!
