    Publisher's Summary:
When Janes college roommates gather for a reunion at Grace Chapel Inn, time seems to disappear. When the four women last met, they were young and idealistic, but in the 25 years since they graduated, their lives have taken different turns, and the decisions theyve made and who theyve become test the strength of their bond.
As they reconnect, they uncover old wounds and confess long-buried secrets, and soon it looks like their time together just might turn into a disaster. But when Sylvia Songer stops by, the weekend turns into an impromptu quilting retreat that brings healing and encouragement, and remids the women of the blessing of old friends. Meanwhile, Alice cares for a patient suffering from amnesia, and the only clue to her identity is the dog who is watching over her after her car when off the road. As Alice tries to help this woman recover her life, Louise counsels a guest whose marriage is on the rocks by sharing about the hard times in her own marriage. Can she help the young woman give it one more try? As the Howard sisters look back on the past, their time together gives all of them hope for the days to come.

Great series - always something to learn.
I love the entire series of Tales from Grace Chapel Inn. I also love the idea of the books being written by various authors. They maintain the characters very well, but each bring their own perspective - it's as if you are getting to know a particular character featured in a particular book just that much more in depth. I also love the tone of the books - Christian in context. As a plus, it seems I get to learn something about a particular subject matter in each book - the ins and outs of jury duty, watercolor painting, cooking.
These books are out of print by the original publisher.
These books are fun reads and since they were out of print I have been able to find all of them except for one in the series through Amazon Prime. I believe by the time I get to the one that I need I will have found it. These books are some new and most used but in very very good condition. If you like to read you will like these books.
    Five Stars
I love this series. This was the last one and I wish Guideposts would continue it.

    Title: Naomi and Her Daughters
    Subtitle: A Novel
    Author: Walter Wangerin Jr.
    Narrator: Walter Wangerin Jr.
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-30-10
    Publisher: Zondervan
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 9 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Religious & Inspirational
    Publisher's Summary:
From master storyteller Walter Wangerin, Jr., comes this familiar biblical saga told in a fresh, transfixing way. You'll feel you've never heard it before! Melding historical accuracy with imaginative detail, Wangerin uses the biblical books of Judges and Ruth to explore themes of love, faith, grief, and community, set against a backdrop of war and political instability.
The widow Naomi grieves the deaths of her two adult sons after the shocking murder of a beloved adopted daughter, while pondering her responsibilities toward her Moabite daughters-in-law. Ancient Israel is in chaos. When her daughter-in-law, Ruth, begs to return to Israel with Naomi, events are set in motion that will change the course of history.
But wait... this isn't the tame, flannel graph story you heard in Sunday School. In the tradition of Anita Diamant's The Red Tent and Elissa Elliott's Eve: A Novel of the First Woman, Wangerin imbues his tale with strong female characters and an earthy realism that gives the timeless Old Testament narrative so much power. You'll find echoes of contemporary issues throughout: deceit, heartbreak, loss, war, and, of course, the power of love. Naomi's combined strength and tenderness becomes the pivot upon which a nation turns; her decisions ultimately lead to the founding of the family lineage of Jesus Christ. Breathtaking descriptions, shocking violence, and inspirational courage make this spellbinding novel by a beloved award-winning author a story you won't soon forget. It's the perfect novel for your book group, and a satisfying listen for those who love thoughtful biblical fiction.

Proves Truth is More Fascinating Than Fiction.
This novel is mainly a fictionalized expansion of the actual verses (italicized) of Judges 18-21 and all of Ruth. It goes from 11 years before Judges 18 at a fictionalized meeting between Naomi when she is 22 and when the woman mentioned in Judges 18 is 5 years old to all the way to Samuel 16 when Ruth's great grandson David is anointed to be the future 2nd king of Israel through whose line the Savior would be born. There are scripture quotations and histories interspersed in from the other books preceding Judges (from Genesis on wards) as well as poetic allusions to Psalms and Song of Solomon (Song of Songs). Using the plot device of Boaz wandering in a self inflicted exile pilgrimage of the lands surrounding the Israelites you get to know the origins of the other various Abrahamic connected people who neighbor the Israelites. Boaz also reflects on the Judaic traditions of his people as he visits the historical sites where events happened to precede such traditions. The whole book was a enlightening exposition on ancient Judaic traditions that they followed blindly to the letter of the law ignoring the spirit of the law which sometimes resulted in shocking tragic decisions and consequences. I read a heavily footnoted and extra study guide information paneled Bible printing of Judges 18 to 21 and Ruth before starting to read the novel because of the foreknowledge given in a prior review that the novel was based on those scriptures. This novel matched the verses, educational footnotes, and study guide panels of the Bible I read in storyline and Judaic traditions.

Written in prose, this book allows you to flow ad ebb in a mot natural way. I am happy I made this purchase.
    Touching and beautiful
What a great book! I'd read it about four years ago and picked it up again. Now that my own son is a teenager, it seems even more powerful and real. A wonderful story of two boys trying to make peace with their god and with the challenging circumstances they've been given. As another reviewer said, the language has a enjoyable poetic flow to it, but at the same time it is easy to read. A little background knowledge of the biblical story is helpful, but it would still be a good read without it.
    Parallels
Dark Sons parallels the lives of two individuals that undergo similar circumstances ages apart. The struggle is real for each character. I loved the use of the biblical references.
    Dark Sons

    Publisher's Summary:
The Abram's Daughters saga encompasses the lives of three generations of Ebersols, an Amish family of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Opening with The Covenant at the end of World War II and continuing into the '50s with The Betrayal, Leah and Sadie Ebersol have made very different choices with consequences that have left them many miles apart, both physically and emotionally. Having already suffered unthinkable betrayals, Leah has accepted her life as "Abram's daughter", fitting willingly and comfortably into the family and work, whether she is needed out in the barn or helping her mother, Ida, with housework and baby sister Lydiann. But an unexpected family announcement brings unimaginable joy - as well as incredible sorrow.
Leah is once again caught between the yearnings of her heart and responsibility for her family. Her younger sisters, twins Hannah and Mary Ruth, face their own difficult choices. Their paths also seem to be diverging, pushing the Ebersol family into further turmoil. Will they ever find true peace - within and without?

This was actually the second time I've read this book. I have read the whole series (Abram's Daughters). This one was my least favorite of the series though mainly because there are some really sad events taking place in the story. But I will admit, life can be that way. And Beverly always addresses these things from a strong Christian perspective. Still, a bit too melodramatic for me........wish I had remembered that before I re-read it.
I'm hooked and have to finish the stories, but losing some interest.
Recently finished this third of the Abram's daughters books. Of course, I will have to read the next one. This one was very good also and seemed to have a lot more drama than the last 2 before it. I'm just not sure how she can squeeze 2 more books out of it because it seems like the whole story line could've ended with this last book if only a couple of chapters would have been added. I did enjoy this last one but toward the end, they allowed a lot of time to pass without knowing what happened during these years. I do like how she keeps you interested in the characters but I don't like how in one paragraph you are all involved in one character and in the very next, you are talking about someone else without a clear indication from the author about who it is she's talking about. It's sort of like Ms. Lewis has ADD and is all over the place at times with the characters. That said, I will finish the series but am losing interest somewhat and can't figure where else this can go but I guess I'm going to find out.
    The Sacrifice
This ending tale of Abram' s daughters has many twists and turns. It is not the ending you expected either. Forgiveness is the greatest gift of all.
    A drawn-out soap opera
This review is for all 5 of the Abram's daughter's series. This was a disappointment from Beverly Lewis, whose books I usually enjoy. I found this series to be like a soap opera. The cast of characters was too large, and hard to keep track of who's who.

    Pointless....absolutely no plot
If you want to listen to a book where literally the only thing that happens is a woman whines about how busy she is this is the book for you.
    stereotyping at it's finest
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Dump the narrator!! Yah, you betcha!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I am actually from Minnesota, and have never, in my entire life, heard the moronic accent that the narrator used. It was like watching Fargo.
Could you see Unwrapping Christmas being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    I could, most definitely.

    Wagered Heart
The story was good but the narrator was not. The girls sounded ok but the men were bad.
    Boring story and horrible narrator
I found this story quite boring. It is a Christian romance novel, and that in itself would not deter me from liking the story. I have read other Christian romance novels that I liked very much. This was however, a bit too preachy for my tastes. I like a clean sweet adventurous romance novel with the implied what would Jesus do factor, this was just too in your face Christian for my taste. It is like the author was afraid not to remind the read every few pages that this was a Christian book. The storyline was boring and the narrator was horrible. I have written other reviews where the narrator ruined a good book, but this a case where the narrator ruined a just ok book. The voice she used for the hero was so bad I almost could not finish the listening. The voice was a cross between the character from Sling Blade meets Forrest Gump who then suffers a debilitating brain injury. Painful to listen too, by far the worst hero voice I have ever heard.
    Trusting God's Word
Lovely story and narrator was good. A lesson to learn is to trust in God and His Word. Thank you for the story!
    Didn't finish
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book might appeal more to readers looking specifically for inspirational fare. I am not opposed to inspirational fare and do read in that genre - however this book just didn't seem to make it for me - either as inspirational or not. The book didn't hang together for me...the characters didn't seem consistent either throughout the book or within the context of the time period in which they lived.
Has Wagered Heart turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not from this genre as I've read a lot from this genre and usually enjoy it. I will likely think long and hard before I buy another book by this author.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kathy Garver?
I don't know - I really didn't like her voice for the heroine's friend. She made the dialogue seem stilted.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Frustration and dread. I actually dreaded listening to this book. Actually not wanting to listen to a book frustrates me because it is not like me at all. I'm an avid fan of audio books and enjoy both fiction and non-fiction in audio format. I preferred silence to this book - hence the decision not to finish it. There are too many other books to listen to that don't inspire such a reaction.
    too bad :(
I was disappointed in this book. I expect lots from Robin Lee Hatcher, usually I LOVE her books but this one fell short, quite short actually. The story was only partly good and if they could just kill off one more person it would have made it even worse. Sorry, can not reccommend this one, usually she delivers.

No Let Up as Story Builds
I give this story Four and a half stars!! Angela Hunt blows me away every.single.time!!! This story slowly ratchets up the tension, until, by the end, I thought I might explode! It reminded me of a musical score for a well-written script. You could feel the tension slowly build. There was desperation throughout, in each character's life -- for healing, for love, for success, for validation, for revenge, for understanding, for life. I love allegorical tales, and Angela Hunt is unparalleled in this genre. Several favorites lines and/or scenes: where the Tree People hung their shields and swords on the Shame tree after a battle, when Michael told Alex, "perhaps you weren't healed because you came more as a scientist, instead of as a supplicant." Love the Tree People shaman -- especially when he told Michael, ". . . we have suffered sorrow and death since you came. . . have you light to give us?" The story of Yai Pada Son, and Alex's glorious morning in the keyba! I felt the ending was a tad rushed. As if the author thought we needed a neat bow wrapped around the story. Hence, the 4 1/2 stars. But, this story is an incredible, faith-affirming, against all odds, metaphorical, allegorical, strum of that resounding note in your heart you weren't aware was throbbing to be played.
This is one of my favorite Angela Hunt stories
This is one of my favorite Angela Hunt stories. You always learn about people and places you've never been (emotionally or physically) and this one has it all. Now, I need to read it again.
    Three Stars
    ok
    An interesting and captivating book
The Canopy has a setting that is far from ordinary, and that alone makes it worth reading. Add to that well rounded characters and a plot that includes some suspense along the way, and I can recommend it highly. While I am not sure if I am ready to accept all the ways the evil spirits and their actions are depicted, I do endorse the basic theology of the book, and I do believe there are spiritual forces at work in our world much like those depicted here. If you want a book that will hold your attention and challenge your views of God and how He works in the world, give The Canopy a read.
    Thoughtful and Entertaining
Entertaining and informative. Describes the real struggle that goes on in many tribal practices and as usual, Ms. Hunt's love of science and rare maladies is presented in a thoughtful way. A bit fantastical near the end, but I like how Ms. Hunt brings in different perspectives through the character in this particular book.

    Any additional comments?
Will like to read/listem to more if Lynn Austin's work
    Not her best novel.
Would you listen to Though Waters Roar again? Why?
No, too much switching back and forth from girl, to mother, to grandmother.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the complete story of Beatrice.
Have you listened to any of Pam Turlows other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm not sure if I've listened to her or not. I loved all of Lynn Austin's other audiobooks.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Would you try another book from Lynn Austin and/or Pam Turlow?
Lynn Austin- yes, Pam Turlow- no
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked the characters, but it was very hard to think about how they SHOULD have sounded with the narration.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She used a sickening sweet, melodramatic & child like voice that just irritated throughout a good story.
Do you think Though Waters Roar needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The performance was so bad that I stopped and started the reading several times over many weeks. I am currently forcing myself past the last half.
    Any additional comments?
Such a shame, I usually enjoy Lynn Austin's books & have listened to many titles before.

Very good except for copy errors
I really enjoyed the book and the characters come to life and it seems you know them. It had some twists and surprises. The only problem I had was that in at least a dozen or more places there were 2 to 6 paragraphs. I double checked two of her other books and found that had sections where several paragraphs were repeated - it makes for confusing reading--I thought my copy of Kindle for PC might be fouled up, but I tried several other books and they didn't have this problem. I also had a problem with 3 of her books having misaligned lines with half of the top or bottom like barely readable or the left or right side of the page but not on both sides of the page. This book is more than worth the time to read if you can manage to ignore the copy errors.
This is a story of a young who's triumph over unimaginable hardships.
At sixteen a girl was given to a widower a wife in exchange for ownership by her father in the soldier's business. Her husband beat and humiliated her and his children. After twelve years of this cruel marriage, her husband and father were killed together in a carriage accident. The husband died at the scene of the accident and the father died some days later in the hospital. When he died she found out that if he died after the husband all the business holdings would go back to the father and he left everything to his daughter.
    Suspenseful historical romance
I like that this author picks good underlying Christian messages to form her story around. In this case, it's the heroine wondering where God was during the many years of abuse that she endured. But the aunt, Zee, kinda confused me in this one. She repeatedly encouraged the hero and heroine to marry yet would also warn the hero not to marry the heroine as long as she's not a Christian. Seemed a bit of a mixed message.
The good characters were nice people, and we did get some background and motive for the main characters. But I also felt like the story would have been stronger if the hero, heroine, and main bad guy were more deeply developed. For example, the bad guy was greedy and grew up seeing men using violent to get what they want, but still, why does he so strongly refuse to give up any part of the inheritance? He goes to such extreme measures. What fear was motivating him? The danger he poses adds suspense, but he was interesting enough of a character that I wanted to know more.
I enjoy the story and would recommend it to historical romantic suspense fans, but I also felt it could have been even better.
    Book Has Good Resolution
Tracie Peterson has a way of drawing the reader into the story. Some may say that this book is predictable.
